I've used them for 20+ years, primarily for airport transportation and I travel extensively. The experiences over that time period have not always been seamless; very occasionally, there's a hiccup. When that occurs, there has NEVER been a time that the people at Black Tie haven't made it right several times over. I've used limo services throughout the US and abroad, and can speak without equivocation in recommending Black Tie. What can really set a company apart from another when you're in something of a commodity business, is customer service and attention to detail. For so long I've heard people talk about how fun wine tasting is, and since I've never experienced it before, I knew that's what I wanted to do this year for my birthday. I've also never been on a party bus before so when I say that Black Tie has a wine tour excursion, I knew it was meant to be!! It's so awesome because they get you set up with a dope party bus and help you coordinate your day at different wineries! It literally doesn't get better than that! Everyone I spoke with at Black Tie was extremely helpful and provided me with great information for reserving my party bus. The customer service representative, Shannon, was great in helping me book my reservation and passing along my information to their winery coordinator. Jeannette was amazing with helping me plan and coordinate my wine tastings! I've heard great things from her fellow coworkers, so I was really excited to work with her. She has a great knowledge of the wineries in the Napa area and will definitely help put together a fun outing for you and your friends! Our driver, Karl, was also super awesome and extremely patient with me and my friends, which I really appreciated. I cannot express how much fun my friends and I had on the party bus and at each winery! 10/10, I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking to get away and have some fun. We have used Black Tie many times, and each time has been non eventful, which is a good thing. They show up on time, they have an umbrella if it's raining, carry your luggage for you, etc. All the things you would expect. They drive slow, ask what route you would like, offer you water. When they pick you up from the airport, they are easily visible, on time and helpful with bags. I have yet to have a bad experience with them and have used them often. read more

We recently used Black Tie for a winery tour in Napa. They were amazing! After doing some research on yelp and with a suggestion from a friend we decided to go with Black Tie. I emailed back and forth with Jennifer and she was great, she made everything so easy! We told her the date, number of people and where we were going and we were all set after that! They even sent a handwritten card thanking us for choosing Black Tie, a very nice touch! Our driver, Victor, showed up a little early, we weren't quite ready but he patiently waited until we were. This Limo Service was fantastic! We booked them for my wedding this fall so we could continue the party after we the left the wedding venue. The driver showed up 20 minutes early and was incredible. The bar was fully stocked with great liquor and beer, and not cheap beer but lagunitas brews. Unfortunately the bus that we booked had engine problems so they set us up with a different bus and were so friendly and even took $300 off of our agreed price! This company is incredibly classy, fun, and professional. I will absolutely book them again in the future without hesitation. Black Tie was truly a pleasure to deal with. From the very beginning phone call answered by Crystal to the driver Jake. I had them pick up my elderly parents at Oakland airport and drive to San Jose. The driver was wearing a mask and gloves the whole time and the car was super clean. They were on time and waiting with a name card, even though the flight arrived 30 mins early. The driver helped load and unload heavy luggage at the airport and even brought it upstairs inside my parents home. The overall cost was expensive as it included a service fee and gratuity (which they were very transparent about up front), but was worth every penny. I have used Black Tie for over 30 years and think they are great, the last trip made me reconsider. Our driver could barely lift the bags into the SUV so I did it. Then I found out they are charging a 30% service fee on top of their rate and gratuity for the driver. This is up from 20% a year ago. I can no longer deal with the price gouging and deceptive advertising, there are alternatives. While the service is very good the pricing is not, check the fine print. read more

Sat night I attended a lovely fundraiser on Mt Diablo. Black Tie Transportation was responsible for moving 500 plus guests from Monte Vista High School to the remote site on top of Mt Diablo. They were tasked with getting us all up trails not roads in theses enormous luxury busses. The drivers were fun and courteous the busses were amazing and on a day that topped 100 degrees the busses were like ice boxes on the inside so refreshing and comfortable. The service day of was great (however, the music didn't work and the driver didn't help with that), but the communication/responsiveness when working with Black Tie was very challenging. When we got agents on the phone, they were super nice, but sometimes it would take several days for us to hear back. And it was a little disconcerting that they did not seem to have set prices (I felt like we had to negotiate from time to time). But overall, they came through on my wedding day and it turned out great. Booked a limo bus for our wedding. Driver missed our exit (his fault) then got stuck in traffic (not really his fault). 2 hours later picked us up. I told them all I wanted was my 2 hours of limo bus time. I was told it wouldn't be a problem. Next week I get a bill for the additional 2 hours. WTF really. I'm having an event in Livermore in October - so I'm looking for a limousine service for two purposes - a shuttle for the guests, and then a limousine for a drop off. While in Livermore running errands 2 weekends ago I am heading to Pleasanton Party Rentals and on my way there I see Black Tie Transportation! I think Sweet Jesus I'm in luck I can kill two birds with one stone today!! So after my rentals experience I head to Black Tie. I've seen other reviews so I was hopeful. As I walked in - I was greeted, and I was scoping out the scene, nice leather couches, nice front desk girl, thinking - this looks awesome...... so then I ask the receptionist if they can help "walk ins" and she says, "Yes what do you need help with" and I explain the needs for a shuttle and a limo, date of event and she stares at me and says, "Ummm....Do you have our Brochure it has some rates on there".... I say "Yes I have it" *Blink Stare Blink* and then she says "Well it's best to call the 1-800 # on the Brochure to ask questions - I don't really know all the details and most people book this way" *Blank Stare Blink* "Book what way" I say? She says "Book on the phone not in person." I say - "okayyyy so no one here can help me?" and just as I'm saying this a girl walks in on a cell phone.... and the receptionist tries to stop her to ask a question and splurts out "Hey Uh" and the girl walks on By.... and the receptionist stares at me and says "Just a minute" walks around behind cubicles, and comes back and says "All the girls are on the phone right now - so ya it's best to call the 1-800 number for help"...... OK WHAT???? I have money to spend, transportation to book - if you can't help a walk in customer than you all need to lock your doors and not take walk ins. I need to clarify - my 1 star is not for actual service rendered, but my experience with customer service. I understand the receptionist may not know details, or be allowed to handle sales, but the fact I walked in, in the middle of the afternoon (not during lunch hour or anything) and not one person would come from behind their cubicle wall to help completely astounded me. I was half tempted to take the flyer - sit on the black leather couch in the entry way and dial the 1-800 number, but I didn't because I figured if they couldn't answer a question in person I'd rather not take the chance they couldn't be of service the day of my event. Our car overheated on our way home from Oakland airport to Livermore at the Davis St. Exit and we pulled in to Purrfect Auto Service and had to leave the car at 4:30 pm on Thursday afternoon. As we discussed how we were going to get home, I thought of Black Tie as I knew from past experience they often had cars dropping off at the airport and I hoped today was one of those days. The dispatcher was very professional and informed me a car was indeed dropping off at Oakland airport and could be to us in 20-30 minutes. In 10 minutes Vaughn, our driver arrived and helped us load our luggage, my 84 y/o handicapped mother with her walker and helped my pregnant daughter into the car. What a relief to have reliable transportation we could trust. read more

Watch out for add-on FEES. I have nothing but positives to say about the car or the driver -- both were excellent. My complaint with this company is about the "surprise" fees that were on the bill, over and above what was quoted. A "transportation fee"?? Isn't the quoted rate a transportation fee? I asked you to take me to the airport. And, I'm sorry, but a "fuel surcharge"?? You're in the limo business! Did no one tell you that fuel was a necessary requirement?? Both of these fees were about $20 EACH, over and above an expensive base rate, and no one told me they would be added on. After spending nearly $200 to get to a local airport, I canceled our return ride and, while it wasn't nearly as comfortable, spent $65 getting my family home, door to door service, with SuperShuttle. read more

I made a last minute decision to hire a town car for my wedding day, and immediately contacted a bunch of transportation/limo companies. Black Tie had the most professionalism and the best prices/value. I was not let down. Our drivers (one before and one after the wedding) were very professional and knew exactly where they were going. Our wedding was at the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park, which is just a maze and our drivers always knew where they were going. They also had ice cold bottled water ready for us! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I recently booked and utilized Black Tie's limo services for my birthday to do a wine tour throughout Napa, and after being exceptionally impressed with the service until they tried to charge me these last minute fees at the end, I have to say, I am absolutely appalled. I did extensive research on local limo services after landing on the decision to go with Black Tie services to accommodate us on this special occasion. They were a pinch pricier then other limo services I had inquired about, however the service that was provided to me by most of the reps I had spoke to, especially Clara, was exceptionally impressive, and is what initially got them to acquire my business. We chose the beautiful, classic, stretched limo that seats up to 6. I was quoted $688 for 6 hours - full bar included - round trip. We ended up going over a half and hour over the originally planned time, which is fine. I paid half of the total upon booking -$388. I then inquired about the first time client booking to get $40.00 off, which they gladly then applied. They charge $51.00 per half hour after. So I had just received my updated card with the chip, and they had went to charge my previously out dated card when the remaining balance ( thank God, they weren't able to yet!) did not go through. A girl in accounting called to collect the additional fee's, I was gladly getting ready to pay the remaining amount when she then tells me I owe $ 450 something....What??? Are you kidding me??? I told her that is not correct and that I should only owe $355.60 of the remaining balance with the extra half hour charge. She then had to look into the details and get back to me. She then called saying they had charged a routing fee to come from Pleasanton to Concord....What???? I conveyed to her that none of this was clarified to me from when I booked with Clara, and based upon my understanding and what was conveyed to me THAT CONCORD WAS CONSIDERED LOCAL!!! And now they want to charge me for something that was not established to me in the beginning!! I of course, being in the right, only paid what I knew I should had paid -$355.60. This was such a disappointing ending to a wonderful day. We had such and amazing time utilizing the limo for the day and was impressed with the friendly and accommodating driver that chauffeured us around; I was so anxious to write an impressive review with my enthusiasm for this company, however, having to fight for what I knew was right, was just horrendous and an absolute hassle. I had two other friends that were inquiring about utilizing their services for their birthdays and another special event coming up, and sadly after hearing my experience, they will be going else where. read more

This is my first review on Yelp and I usually just keep my opinions to myself but I feel I need to share my experience with others. We used Black Tie for a 30+ party bus last night to a concert for a birthday party. Driver seemed nice even though he was 15 mins late. And we had a good time getting there. Once the concert was let out he went to a designated pick up location. We waited about 15 kind before calling him an he told us to walk up the street because of the traffic. We walked following his exact directions which is hard to do with out losing 30 people after a few beers. Eventually 30 mins go by and we still can't find him. Guess where he was when we found him. . . in our designated pick up spot. Miscommunication happens but when we all got on the bus he came into the back and began screaming at us for more money. I know we have certain times but we already paid $2,000 and you were the one who was late! He refused to move the bus until we all coughed up $250 for an extra hour. That's a Little much for college kids to just come up with especially after a bus and concert expenses. Once we gave him the extra money he continued to sit In The parking lot for 20 more minutes, completely running the clock. I'm pretty sure he just pocketed the money. Once arriving back to our drop off he continued to harass us and even threatened a few of our friends. Overall horrible experience and I will not be renting from them again. Ps/ Found out from the birthday girl just moments ago that the driver told her if she show him her breasts we would get a discount. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional. read more

Choosing a transportation company for something as important as a wedding can be scary. Reviews are all over the place, and every company seems to have some pretty serious horror stories. Luckily, no horror story here: we chose to go with Black Tie, and they were everything we could have wanted. We purchased three days' worth of transportation with black tie: one day with an 8 person stretch limo, one day with a 40 person motor coach, and one day with a 30 person executive coach. In every instance, everything worked out perfectly. On the first day, our stretch limo and driver showed up early, greeted us with a bottle of Champagne, took us to our destination on time, loaded and unloaded our massive amount of wedding equipment, and was incredibly friendly. When we unloaded the limo, my wife actually dropped her phone onto the floor of the limo. When we did a final check, we somehow missed it. The driver found it about 30 minutes later when we were calling it, and by the time he did he was already on the other side of San Francisco. Unbelievably, without complaint, the driver called me, let me know he had a phone, drove all the way back (approx. 30 minutes), and happily returned the phone letting me know it "wasn't a big deal at all". Throughout all of this, even though we were already way over time, he didn't charge us any extra. What could have been a complete nightmare ended up as a lesson in incredible customer service - and we were so thankful my wife was able to have her phone during the rehearsal to coordinate and take pictures. On the second day we got a 40 person motor coach who - again - showed up early, and was unquestionably professional. The bus (and restroom) were spotlessly clean, and everything was in perfect working order. This poor driver then had to deal with loud music, a 17 person wedding party, S/O's, friend's, etc, for a 5-6 hour drive. Rowdy is an understatement! However, there was no complaint, and as we changed the directions on a whim there was never a hint of an issue. He would happily go, smiling, and seemed to even enjoy himself. I felt terrible about our indecisiveness and frequent stops, and the fact it didn't seem to bother him made the wedding say so much less stressful. In the end - on such an important day - he provided us a perfect service start to finish, and came in at the exact same cost originally quoted. Exceptional! On the 3rd day, we took the 30 person executive coach with leather seats that recline. Unsurprisingly at this point the driver showed up early, was very professional, and the bus was in beautiful, perfect condition. We gave him a long list of addresses (drop offs the day after the wedding!) and he started on his way. Most of us reclined and immediately fell asleep. He charted a very effective path, and woke us up as each person's time came to disembark. At one point he even stopped for us to eat McDonalds (even though I'm somewhat suspicious we may have been over time). Unlike the bus the second day, it was very peaceful and quiet :). The driver was great all the way through and the bus rode like a couch on wheels while we all slept. I'll use transportation services a lot throughout my life - be it wine tours, party bus's, or limo's for special occasions - with me, BlackTie now has a customer for life. So much can go wrong in transportation and logistics, and the fact they were able to make our wedding weekend so flawlessly smooth is something I'll never forget. read more
