I had no idea this place existed. I actually found it the way I find most new spots, by typing "coffee" into the Maps search bar and checking what is nearby. I am so glad it led me here. I had not been to Jun before, so when I pulled up and did not see "Third Place" on the building I was a little confused. They have a small sign out front, and I learned they repurpose the space in the mornings and during the day as a coffee shop. I love that concept. They also host food pop ups and feature different chefs. When we went last week they had a Szechuan pop up. We were there around 9 am so it was too early to try the food, but after reading reviews I definitely want to come back for it. We ordered an iced vanilla matcha and a hot latte, and both were amazing. The space has so much natural light and a really relaxing vibe. Even the cups and mugs are are so cute!! We ended up staying for a while, just talking and playing cards. I will absolutely be back!! read more

I'm always on the hunt for coffee shops to get work done. I have a few places I regularly go back to but Third Place might need to be added to the rotation. The ambiance gives off a boho vibe with the indoor plants and rattan furniture. I also love their playlist so much I didn't end up putting on my headphones to listen to my own music. I visited not too long after they opened and had the whole place to myself for a bit. I ordered the cowboy tea and salvi cheese bread. I honestly didn't know what I was going to expect with the drink but I was so pleasantly surprised. I'm usually a fan of hojicha and oolong on their own as earthy teas but the addition of jarritos gave it a nice acidity. It was a unique spin on a "sweetened teas". The cheese bread was also amazing. It reminded me of a Filipino pastry called mamon that is a fluffy sweet bread. They added a big dollop of black sesame butter on top. I love the creativity of their menu items and it seems as though they rotate things seasonally. I have been seeing so many IG reels about Third Place and it's near me, so wanted to try it out! We went on a Saturday, and got the Peanut Cold Brew drink (I think) which was mid.. I wasn't impressed with it. I did get an empanada, and it was freaking fire!! I would go back just for that. It was so warm, flavorful and perfect size for a light snack. Pricing is a little high to be honest. I got 2 drinks and a pastry and it was like $27.. Not sure I'd go back for coffee, but I'd go to try their food/menu. Parking is crazy, cause it's right next to Happy Hour Pilates.. but we were able to find street parking. Service was quick. Not super friendly, but also not hateful. We came in for Saturday lunch service for Chef Suu Khin's pop-up. Parking wasn't an issue, as there is a reasonably-sized lot in front as well as neighborhood streets. However, depending on the rotation and time of day, it can get (and was) pretty full. It is a small-ish place so it does get busy during lunch service. The ambiance is nice - the atmosphere felt much more casual and fun. That being said, it was fairly noisy as there were quite a few people. I got the Heights Matcha and the Lemongrass Catfish Congee. My father got the Shan Khao Swè and we shared the Burmese Chips & Salsa. The matcha was so refreshing and helped to balance the tangy-spicy flavors throughout. We shared a bit of each other's dish also - the noodles had a good heat and soaked up the sauce well. That congee, though - I am NOT exaggerating when I say it changed my brain chemistry. The warm, thick soup with tender catfish chunks combined with the cruller and peanut-sesame crunch was heavenly, especially with the provided garlic-chili flakes. Lived up to the hype and then some! I even got the chance to see Chef Suu as she stopped by each table to check in. She was very nice and answered my father's questions. I hope to eat more of her creations in the future. I've always really liked Jūn, so when I heard that Third Place was opening up during the day, I was excited to see what the owners would do. I was not disappointed in the slightest and look forward to future chef rotations and events. We will definitely be coming back. read more

I loved the drinks and the food here. I had a nutty coffee that tasted like a Reese's I've had the matcha drink too and that was good. When I first tasted the nutty coffee without mixing it, I was like ehhhhh it was ok. But once u mix it and the flavors came together, wow!! This weeks menu had 2 things I wanted to try and that was the mapo rigatoni and the Hamburg eggrolls. The mapo rigatoni was better of the 2. I just thought it was a little salty. I'd come here again. Love that at 11 u can order a limited menu of foods. Plenty of parking spaces for me when I went. What a great place to grab asian, fusion food that rotates often as well as their unique drink menu. I got the Third Place Matcha and their sando which were great. Super good service, clean spot with lots of seating and parking. The matcha was very refreshing which i enjoyed. The chips had a lime taste which i wasn't a huge fan of. I've been following Chef Evelyn ever since her pop-up days years ago. It's great seeing her progression from then to now. Of course when I heard about Third Place I knew immediately I had to come. I've been twice now since their opening a few weeks ago and can't wait to come back. First of all, I love that they're repurposing Jun as a coffee/lunch spot in the daytime. Somehow, the decor inside works perfectly for both concepts. I also love how they feature local/special chefs weekly with an ever changing menu. This will be what keeps me coming back again and again. If you did not do your research on Third Place, it is the same spot as Jun but only in the morning at night it becomes Jun. So find the Jun's big wood door for the entrance to Third Place. You order at the counter and they will bring your food and drink to you table. There are good amount of seatings and outlet for you to relax at your new third place to do your studies or work, they have a water station for you to get your own water. I came here for the rotating chef pop up but by the time we go there they were all sold out for the day. We are here so I might as well try the regular menu food they have here which are the breakfast tacos and a chicken salad. The tacos were expensive and so was the chicken salad. They were expensive so I thought they would match the quality to the price. But no, the food here is just overpriced. I will not come back here and properly will not visit Jun either. read more

Heard about Third Place for quite a while but couldn't find the time to visit until now. It's located in the same space as Jun in the Northern Heights area. Parking is available out front. The interior is fairly contemporary with an open view of the kitchen to the right side. We came by right after lunch to check out their day time menu; they had coffee options and some pastries so we got a couple pastries to try. We got their caramel cookie and seasonal bread pudding. I thought it was going to be similar to other bread and pastry shops where it takes a couple minutes to get your order; it took about a solid 20 minutes for them to grab us a cookie and a square of bread pudding. The staff didn't seem that surprised or concerned at all so I'm guessing this is the norm. Once we finally got the cookie and bread pudding, the anticipation was a bit worn off by then. The cookie was moist in the center but dry towards the outside, pretty tasty but it was a $5 cookie. The bread pudding was a bit denser than expected and needed a sauce to go with it. Overall, this is an upscale coffee and pastry spot in the daytime where you can chill and work (?) in the same space as Jun but it a bit less impressive than the reviews make it seem. read more

The cafe/ lunch menu is available Monday-Friday (8am-3pm) inside Jun. At 5pm, except on Tuesdays, Jun (restaurant) opens. There is a sizable (for the Heights) parking lot with several spaces, but since it operates as an eatery and cafe, available spaces probably depend on the hour. There were quite a few open spaces at 11:15 but not many at 12 as there were a few cars waiting. There's patio seating, a high bar near the ordering station, and a variety of choices in the main dining area, which has a explorer/ resort/ jungle aesthetic. I wasn't going to try it, but the tomato and cheese empanada was surprisingly delicious and something I'd order again. Everyone compares it to a fancy hot pocket. The menu says it has bacon tomato jam, cream cheese, and thai basil. The bacon tomato jam is sweet, rich in concentrated tomato flavor, and meaty. The cream cheese is hot, fluffy, and smooth. The dough is like a concentrated croissant when it is flakey, crispy, and buttery. The salvi cheese bread with black sesame butter was an interesting pairing. The bread tasted like sweet cornbread topped with a warm and melted savory sesame spread. The bo lo bao, a "pineapple bun" filled with carnitas, tasted like a toasty but not sweet pineapple bun filled with tender and savory bbq pork chunks filling. I think I'd enjoy it more if it had a sweeter flavor profile but that may be due to me expecting the familiar foods to lean on the sweeter side. The dough was perfectly crispy yet bread-like. The cowboy tea (houjicha, oolong tea syrup, tamarind jarritos) tasted like a fancy sparkling mocktail. It was definitely fun to try and an interesting mix. I chose the Lagos link (wagyu spicy suya chili, Gouda fondue) from a list of gourmet hotdogs by Chef Tristen (chef residency) during Monday's lunch. It was pretty good, though I wanted the chili to be piping hot and not just warm/hot. The offerings seem to change weekly, so look at their IG account. read more

Third places look to be part of Jun. The name Third place is just on a small sign , so don't be shy and just enter. I ordered the Bolo Bao and the third place matcha ( what match take 1st place? Lol). The bolo bun reminds me of the Chinese bbq bun but filled with meat. The third place matcha is definitely unique. We also got a couple of dishes, but it looks like they change out the menu. Not sure how often though. I got the catfish congee and my friend got the chicken salad. The place is beautiful, but honestly very overpriced and not good quality or taste. We ordered the tamarind hojicha, the third place matcha, and a hot chai latte. Honestly, none of the drinks were balanced at all. The tamarind hojicha was overwhelming. The third place matcha was way too sweet and tasted more like a pina colada than a balanced matcha with pineapple and coconut. The chai took a very very long time to come out and was incredibly sweet. If you like very sweet drinks, this might be better for you, but it was not for us. I went when they have one of their lunch chef residencies, by Suu Khin who was a James Beard semifinalist. I tried her fish congee which was basically like a warm hug in a bowl, a savory rice / almost oatmeal consistency. From the Third Place regular offerings, I had the nutty cold brew, which had peanut cold foam. It was very good, but I should have gotten it a different time as it did not pair too well with the other things I got, which is my bad. I had a hard time choosing just one pastry, and settled on the Texas peach Semita which was delicious. The staff were very nice and friendly. I stopped by Third Place again to grab their matcha latte on my drive back to Dallas. I really enjoyed their specialty drinks when I first went there but I wanted to try their original matcha latte. They have been open for only about a month so there's practically no wait right now. Their matcha had a beautiful deep and dark green color. After just one sip, I have already fallen in love. I enjoyed their third place matcha specialty drink but wow I think their original matcha latte is even better. You can tell they use ceremonial grade matcha, its flavor is pretty strong. It comes unsweetened and I added vanilla syrup to it. You can also choose from honey and simple syrup. It was honestly a perfectly balanced sweetness level where it wasn't too sweet nor lacking sweetness. Dare I say this is the best matcha latte I've had in Houston so far.
