We visited over the holiday weekend, so the place was packed. The service was really great especially given how slammed they were. Everything was really delicious. Definitely one of the best crab cakes I have ever had. Wings, fettuccine and sides were good. I didn't like the sauce on the baja tacos- it's a little chemical tasting and the hybrid tortillas are something I can live without but the fish and blackened shrimp were cooked really well. Found this place near our hotel and I will say when you pull up, you'll think "is this the right place?" Lol it's small and looks like a bar and inside it has a dive bar feel but if you sit in the front it's more quiet and laid back. The food we had was pretty good. The seafood cakes were great with a yummy sauce that comes with it and 2 sides you can choose. The baja tacos had good flavor but I think they could have been stuffed a little more for the tortilla size they use. Again, I recommend the seafood cakes. TL;DR: HAVE THE BANANA CHEESECAKE!! It's LIFECHANGING!! Talk about an extensive menu! AND! You can eat free on your birthday (too bad it's no where near bdays for either of us!) Hubby's having the Blackbeard salad and I'm going for the lunch portion of chicken fried chicken. I'm grateful for both the fact that they have a lunch menu and that they list serving sizes on their portions. (1/2 lb fried chicken would be WAY too much, but 4oz sounds just right! EDIT: and even then, it was still a sizable portion!) Looking around as we wait- the place has a serious 'dive bar' feel to it- random decor on the walls, GOOD classic rock playing overhead ---- Wow- no time to wait, service is FAST at noon on a Saturday! Hubby's salad looks amazing- huge portion and LOTS of shrimp! My fried chicken is just what you'd want: hot, juicy, with a crisp outer shell (that falls off, but it's still delicious!) The surprising winner was the side of steamed veggies- garlicky green beans with just the right amount of snap still in them. Y'all- this place is a HIDDEN TREASURE (pun totally intended!) A piece of banana cheesecake for dessert (because why not?) and then we're off for more adventures here in Corpus Christi. And y'all? We ate for half the cost of previous night and Blackbeard's was a nicer location. The fried fish was tasty and had a nice crust/breading. It's been many years since we visited this bar on North Beach, but our family group of eight (six adults and two kids) decided to try an early dinner here. It's a dumpy, purple cement block building with very little parking in sight of the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium. We had to wait for parking but finally went inside and asked for a table. The place is full of souvenirs, funny signs, pirate memorabilia, weird lights and very low ceilings. If you are the least bit claustrophobic we recommend you skip this joint. We were handed menus and seated fairly quickly but that's where the fast service ended. We waited and waited over 25 minutes for someone to come take our drink orders and flagged down a waitress only to hear our waitress had been "stuck in traffic" and would be available shortly. Good grief really?!? Finally a waitperson took pity on us and asked for our drink and food orders. The menu consists of fried and grilled seafood combos plus burgers, nachos, tacos and a few soups and salads. Plenty of beers, wine and mixed drinks round out the menu. We ordered shrimp Baja tacos, fish tacos, seafood platter, catfish dinner, crab cake dinner, shrimp/fish combo basket and two kids' shrimp plates with fries and Doritos. The food was surprisingly fresh and good, the seafood tasty and piping hot. The cole slaw was bland but the French fries were great as were the charro beans and baked potatoes. We were still a bit upset with our bad service but pleased with the food. The lower rating is for the bad service and the dirty surroundings: all the campy cute decor needs a thorough cleaning and the cichlid fish aquariums behind our table need cleaning too. The fake plush moose head that was hanging over our table was filthy with dust and dirt, we were afraid it might shed into our food below at any minute! We got 2 burgers with the pineapple and coconut mayonnaise. That's was good but just a dressed up frozen Patty. The waitress was kind but seemed to be in a rush. The place was clean but it's all about pirates. Imagine something like a child would like, but because the cursing I would advise against it.
