Both of us got combo platters with, between us, had a variation of wings, ribs, pulled pork, cole slaw, mashed potatoes and fries. I am guessing this restaurant is trying to make things "their own" by going an non-traditional route with some things and I'm usually fine with that - if I know it in advance. Cole slaw, while it had good flavor, was very heavy on the mayo and contained very large pieces of onion which is not common. I know far too many that don't like onions and this would have been an unpleasant surprise. The mashed had a good flavor as well (but woah, a TINY side that was the same portion as the cole slaw) but it had a spice to it in there - no clue what it was but, again, would have been a huge no to folks like my mother, my kids, etc. Onto the meats. They were OK but so dry if you don't opt to add in some of the sauces. The sauce offerings seemed a little different to us so we went with the "Classic BBQ" and frankly, we both hated it. It seems to have a "Hunts tomato sauce" base. That's exactly what it tasted like. Hunts tomato sauce. I wish I knew it was a tomato sauce base (or tasted like it) because it's very thin and heavy on the tomato flavor. Since we didn't like the sauce, our meats were SO dry b/c they had no sauce on them. Anywho - someone next to us ordered a sirloin, I believe, it looked great. Maybe we just went for the wrong thing. But I could not get that BBQ taste out of my mouth all night. Two 2 meat combos (with $1 upcharge for ribs), one appetizer (queso), a diet soda and 2 Bud Lights ($10 ea!) came to just over $90 before gratuity. We came here while crushing some time while our older son was at an activity and we have to repeat this in a couple of weeks. We will not be back here... we'll have to find another place to spend some time and have dinner. Again, service was TOP NOTCH - no complaints about service. But the food left a lot to be desired. We had higher expectations for sure.

We ordered bread so we could slobber up the sauce. 2) Crawfish arancini -- good, nice crunch. The little shrimpies that came with it were even better 3) Charred octopus -- very tender and with great smoky flavor -- yum! 4) Chicken thighs -- nice bbq sauce slathered meat 5) Mac and cheese -- good cheesy with pork belly -- so good 6) Lemonade mocktail -- ok Minus one star for not having a lot of veggies on the menu. And for seating us so close to the loud live music (though, happy to have gotten seated outdoors). Underrated place, def worth checking out.

Highlights. My favorite is probably the tartare, the flavor was perfectly balanced, the cracker was unfortunately stale, and the tuna itself could have been a little fresher. My kids had the Mac and cheese which they said was ok, and enjoyed the sliders. The oysters were good, but the shrimp did not taste fresh and were very bland like it's been soaked in water. The biscuits were tasty but I wish it was a little hotter so it would be more fluffy. I had a spicy tequila drink I forgot what it was called but the bartender did a really good job on it. The server really lacked personality and I wish was a little more attentive to provide us a good experience. I have this place 4 stars because the place is very cute and is a really good fit for the location, as a local, this can easily become a regular spot for myself and friends and it really has the potential to be this! I think it just needs good ambiance and energy and more attentive from the food quality going out? I hope to see good things happen to this place so I plan to come back and try again but maybe drinks with friends next time!

Almost two years later, and the place still is impeccably clean, and those green leather booths are inviting. Service was great and got us in and out rather quickly...though we never felt rushed at all. I would have been happy to order the steak tips or burger again, but the tips have been replaced by steak frites on the menu. The steak was perfectly cooked to my preference (medium rare), the fries were crispy, and the peppery arugula salad complemented everything.

10/10 -- Our New Favorite Restaurant!…read more We're still pretty new to the area and have been slowly finding our favorite places, and Rail Stop has officially taken the #1 spot for us. We absolutely loved our experience and already know we'll be bringing our friends and family here when they come to visit. We started with the Soprasata pizza, and honestly, the gluten-free crust blew us away. One of the biggest frustrations with eating gluten-free is that there's often a trade-off in quality. You get the accommodation, but the gluten-free bread, bun, or crust is usually just... okay. That was absolutely NOT the case here. The gluten-free pizza crust was so good it hurt your feelings. My absolute favorite gluten-free bread is from Against the Grain, and the crust here tasted incredibly similar to their products. We actually looked them up afterward to see if they make pizza crust--and sure enough, they do. That level of attention to detail was something my partner and I really appreciated. It's one thing for a restaurant to offer a gluten-free alternative because they have to accommodate a dietary restriction. It's another thing entirely to clearly care about the quality of that alternative. Rail Stop doesn't feel like a restaurant that tosses a low-quality gluten-free bun at you and expects you to be grateful. They genuinely care about the food they're putting out, and it shows. The gluten-free fries were another huge highlight. They were perfectly crisp and SO good. Finding gluten-free fries that I can safely eat when dining out is rare, so it was such a welcome surprise. Typically, fries are something I have to skip, so being able to order them and actually enjoy them made me feel surprisingly... normal. That meant a lot to me. We also had the house-roasted turkey sandwich made gluten-free, and it was fantastic. The gluten-free bread held up really well, the bacon was amazing, the basil in the pesto was delicious, and all of the flavors worked so well together. It was also a very generous portion. We tried the buttermilk fried chicken as well (this was made regular, not gluten-free), and it was "solid", my partner says. Everything we had felt thoughtfully prepared. Nothing was greasy, the portions were generous, and the quality of the food exceeded our expectations. They also have a separate fryer, everything is house-made, and they're able to make modifications to accommodate gluten-free needs. That level of care made us feel very comfortable dining here. And then there's the bathroom, which sounds like a strange thing to rave about in a restaurant review, but it was impressively clean and genuinely pleasant. It was... elegant? I know that sounds ridiculous for a bathroom, but it really was. Even the locking mechanism on the door was thoughtfully designed. My partner kept looking at me and saying, "DUDE..." like Crush from Finding Nemo, because he was so impressed with everything. We also want to give a huge thank-you to Neythaniel, who provided exceptional service. He helped guide us through the menu, was perfectly attentive to what we needed, and was somehow also handling the host stand while taking care of us and other tables. We noticed the hard work and the great time management, and we really appreciated your hospitality. Thank you for taking such good care of us! Overall, Rail Stop was a 10/10 and an easy 5 stars for us. If you go, GET THE SOPRASATA PIZZA. It is heavenly. We are so happy that we found such an amazing restaurant this early into living here. It's already our favorite, and we can't wait to come back. We absolutely love Rail Stop and can't wait to bring our friends and family! Thanks again, Jewel & Matt

Shabu-shabu lovers, this place is a MUST!…read more This was one happening shabu-shabu house! We arrived around 6 PM on a Saturday and waited about 30 minutes for a table for two. It was buzzing, lively, and definitely loud--but the service was fantastic. Here's how it works: the base price includes your broth and access to a HUGE buffet featuring seasonal vegetables, rice cakes, noodles, fish cakes, and so much more. You can add à la carte meats and seafood, plus drinks. There was honestly such an incredible variety on the buffet that we didn't even feel the need to order extra meat or seafood. Everything was plentiful and surprisingly well-stocked throughout our meal. Check out my photos and videos to see just how much there was to choose from! Hands down, the best shabu-shabu/hot pot I've ever had.

I love this place! Such a staple in Boston for AYCE hotpot…read more The service is quick and very friendly. Our server, Jose, helped reset the hotpot heaters at my table because two of them were not working initially. He also checked in on my table multiple times for more meat orders and water refills despite a full and busy dining room. They have a variety of greens, mushrooms, noodles, fishcakes, and other vegetables for hot pot. They also have rice, kimchi, eggs, and a sauce bar with a plethora of options. You are also able to order meat, fish, and shrimp for an extra charge with the server. All their ingredients are super fresh and pair super well with all of their broth options. I got the mala broth, which is pretty spicy and super flavorful. The best part is that there is matcha and vanilla soft serve for a sweet treat to end the night. Overall, I think the price is reasonable for what you are getting and the fact that there is nearly always a line speaks to how good it is. I will definitely be back when I am in Boston!
