Store closes at 5:00. I arrived at 5:05 and was in need of a plumbing part to fix our main water pipe break. There were other customers in the store and practically begged to quickly run in and grab the part. Young clerk wanted to let me in but manager came over and said no. First he said cash registers closed out their cash. I answered I can use a debit card or credit. He then asked what I needed. I explained what I needed and he said he didn't carry it. I asked if I could look myself and he said no. I explained that if I don't get it fixed we would be without water. He then told me he doesn't carry the part. I always look to support local business. Your prices are not low so I expect exceptional service. If that is the service you provide I can go to the big stores and get the same crappy service and save money. read more

It's time for Ace in Blackhawk to get their act together regarding COVID-19. I have been a faithful customer for years and enjoy supporting my local hardware store. Currently, half of the employees don't wear masks and I overheard a conversation between one of the teenage clerks and a cashier downplaying the seriousness of the virus. "It's just a bad flu. This is way overblown." WRONG! It's time to read what the experts have to say-people who have studied viruses like this most of their lives. Ordered a large bag of lawn treatment online and phoned to make sure they had it so I could get curbside delivery. Very helpful gentleman on the phone. They were a little slow to get my order ready, but I phoned from the parking lot and they came out and put it into the trunk. Even though curbside is supposedly available at other home stores, for many items, the only way to get it is to walk into the store. From now on, if Alamo Hardware has my item, I will get it there. Great selection in the gardening section but rudeness abounds. They won't take back dead plants. Costco and Home Depot take them back, no questions asked. Alamo Hardware blames the customer, and does accept responsibility. They have set the bar really low when it comes to customer service. I am not coming back. read more

Tassajara Valley Hardware Closed and it is Now and ACE again! After being an ACE, then True Value, now its ACE and it is the best I have EVER seen it. They even have an outside section again and lots of craftsman tools and new services like laser tag keys and more. Love it! FYI, still the exact same cashiers so I don't much has changed from a customer service standpoint, but I do think their shelves are WAY better stocked. read more

I definitely appreciated the previous owners efforts, but, the new owners seem to by applying the same approach that works for the Alamo store. James is an awesome guy, he took his time to do the research to ensure that i get the correct cable and also did look up the recommended installation instructions. I received wonderful service here. After pricing the Big Green Egg grill at two other stores, Wayne offered me the best price. Both he and Lorena were knowledgeable and professional. After placing my initial order, I changed my mind. Not only were they able to take my new order, I still received my grill within the time frame originally promised. They also set up a customer rewards card for me and made sure both of my orders were credited. Have not been to this store in years, but glad i had extra time and checked it out. Was greeted by a few employees that were happy and willing to help. Store has good organization, staff, and lines are quick. Prices may be a bit higher (10-20%) than that giant orange store, but you get people that are in their station or have the basic knowledge to help assist. If I could give 10 stars I would! Ace REALLY IS the place with the helpful hardware folks! I recently called to inquire about a big green egg. Sherri answered the phone and was so informative and friendly I knew I had to go in. She told me the day she was working and I went in specifically because I knew she was going to be there and she was so friendly on the phone! I went in and her and Jim both helped me. Jim was also awesome. I felt like I knew them both as they made me feel so comfortable and informed with my purchase. They went out of their way to make sure my questions were answered and that I knew my options. They also went above and beyond to go in the back and bring out other options! After my purchase they are putting it together and got me all set up! I have to say after being in this area for over 20 years... this Ace is going to be my first and only stop for shopping on hardware, yard, and bbq needs! I went in to get a keyless entry battery and someone was immediately offering help without me asking. I thought I had it handled; went to pay and discovered I needed more help than I thought. Yes- The pricer are a little higher than the bigger DYI stores. But it's worth it for the amazing customer service and the convenience of not having to drive to the bigger stores and navigating around them. The employees go out of their way to help you and seem happy to do it. read more

I'm very happy with this store since ownership turned over. The layout is much better, help is always steps away (and proactive), inventory seems to be better managed, and frankly, I feel like the prices have come down a bit. There is still a premium to the big box guys, but I'm willing to suck that up for the convenience most of the time. read more

I wouldn't come here for keys. I brought in a Kwikset key blank and was told I couldn't get a key made because the keys didn't match up exactly (she didn't even look at my key blank). I drove down Crow Canyon Road to the locksmith and had my key made in about 30 seconds for $2. read more
