It's not a bad store. They have good inventory and it's fairly easy to find stuff. The folks there are helpful. The problem is nearly everything is locked to the wall with those really annoying little red blocks on the ends of the pegs. So, you can't actually look at anything, you have to call someone just to do that. This is a huge pet peeve and just irritates customers. I guess the problem is retail theft. This is not the solution. Find some other way. Invest in the store instead of just milking it with $29.99 wrenches. I probably won't shop there anymore because of this. read more

Besides the racial profiling? There were at least four people working here and the only person to greet me was the woman working up front. The rest of the guys sat around talking to her. I didn't realize that they were about to close, but I just wanted to get an extension cord with multiple plugs on it. I'm talking to my stepson who has worked in a couple of hardware stores about this and this yahoo comes over to me with a young kid and a phone and they proceed to take my picture. He was telling the kid about a wall they have in the back with people who steal. Really?!? At first I ignored them, but he was talking about the wall in the back and how to tell them apart, etc. So it was racist indoctrination at work. I'd just left an organization of professional woman who gave out a $1500 scholarship to a couple of young people. And I'm in grad school, so yes I was tired. And I work full time. But we'd had a small electrical fire and needed this cord so I got it. I was glad to return it to another, closer location and I made sure to tell my story to that employee. But these people are so busy worried about me, they are missing the methy nomads who are truly stealing from them! The truth is that the only reason I went in there at closing was because I was going next door to Whole Paycheck and I realized that they would be open longer. And no, not to steal but to buy something I needed. However, my husband had one at home we could use and I decided to take my money back from the racists. As I left, the one person who greeted me said goodbye. That's not to say that she was a friend or friendly, but she was respectful and I appreciated that. I just hope it was sincere. read more

I love this store. We live right down the street so it's super convenient for all of our house needs. The entire staff is super nice and honestly incredibly knowledgeable. I've done so many house projects confidently because of the staff members that work here. I've replaced extremely old cabinets, fixed my irrigation system, learned how to remove a medicine cabinet and repair the hole. I needed specific help with rain gutters, large painting projects. Gardening advice! So many projects and I am always given all the tools I need to complete the project perfectly. Down to the finest details. It's super impressive! Really great service at this store! I recently bought a Weber grill, and Mark and Doug went above and beyond helping me w/ the purchase. Doug asked if I already had propane, and when I told him that I didn't, he said if I place an online order, he could deliver the tank w/ the grill. Such a smart idea! Decided to order a bbq grill online and the folks from WC Ace did a great job of assembling the unit, delivering, and taking away the hold one - super happy with the friendly service. I'm not much of a gardener and thus a few of my transplanted plants did not survive the climate here. I went to the garden center and the staff here was super helpful in recommending durable plants as well as way to take care of the foliage. This ACE hardware store was not the most spacious store and their isles were pretty narrow and tight, which I typically wouldn't mind but during the current pandemic the isles were a lot narrower than I would like it to be in order for me to be able to shop there comfortably. That said, the store carried most of the hardware items you're looking for though. Moreover, I would have to say that I was really happy with the store workers who were available and helpful when I needed help with looking for an item. I appreciated that. Parking at this location was pretty easy and plenty. But the parking lot was still pretty busy, likely because this store was located within the same plaza as a Whole Foods. Went online to order a Weber Smoker. The item was in stock and told it would be ready for pick up. I ordered, paid and then got the confirmation. A few minutes later was told that it was NOT in stock and would not be available for nearly two weeks. Called and spoke to a woman who claimed to be operations manager. She could not have been more unhelfpul and basically said, well thats corporates fault but then went on to explain how the person in the store (apparenlty the grill/bbq manager) said there were two in stock when I ordered. Now all that was left was the floor model. So it went from corproate's fault to the grill guys fault. She said I could have the floor model but did not know the condition and there would be no box. Did not offer a discount or anything. Meh was her attitude. Sounds about right. Will never go or order from there again. She also said do not buy online due to corporate. What? After calling and visiting 2 Home Depots for kitchen plumbing advice (metal versus plastic joining, etc.) and receiving questionable recommendations and parts from 2 Home Depot staff (after having to wait a long time to talk to them), ... I went to Ace (Ygnacio in Walnut Creek) and got GREAT ADVICE from Kenny. Kenny took me right to the exact part I needed, explained why it would work (and why the different Home Depot part would not) and also showed me some other parts I needed for something else (new bath vanity). I installed my new garbage disposal, dishwasher, sink and faucet with no trouble. Getting the knowledgeable advice from Kenny was so reassuring and I didn't even have to wait for him to help me. Ace's prices were very competitive too. Home Depot has a lot of stuff but for personal attention and solid advice, you can't beat Ace Hardware. When I first saw that there would be a 15-minute safety and training session when I picked up the chainsaw, I was doubtful it would be helpful. Bob at ACE changed my mind entirely and walked me through the saw features, filled up the oil and gas, and took me out back to be sure the saw started up. Last night was my first time into Ace. I had about half an hour to kill before meeting someone at the Whole Foods Cafe next door, so I figured I'd meander inside and look around. I was really surprised that they have so much more than just "hardware". There's an entire animal section, and a garden section too. I work at a law firm across the street during the day. There's a little plant in our office that has been in the same, tiny, plastic cup it came in for YEARS. It's on it's last leg. I have recently popped into a couple stores looking for a new pot and soil, but without luck (it's not really gardening season right now). So I was really excited here at Ace to find a beautiful ceramic pot ($30)! I bought a couple planters for my home, as well. Mission accomplished! This morning when I began the replanting process, I realized we would need more soil (we had a little in the office but not enough). So back I went to Ace! A nice girl working saw me carrying both a large and a smaller bag of soil and offered to help. (I bought the big bag for home and small for the office plant). The store manager, Doug, was at the front as I was paying for my purchase and HE carried my bags of soil out to my car for me. Talk about customer service. Really nice gesture and not what I expected at a hardware store. Incredibly nice staff on both visits. Going to be back soon as several of my home plants could use re-potting, and the prices were great! read more

I would give it a 5 but my experience over the weekend was not so good. When a customer is having a hard time locating an item the response shouldn't be, WELL I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU. It should be let me walk you to where the item is. Store manager train your young employees to make an effort. Your aisles and walls are jammed packed with stuff. What was the clerks hurry? I have been going to this particular Ace Hardware store for years....and my Mom since 1987...Yesterday was the first time I've ever experienced such bad service...Mom has gotten older now so I try to help and fix any appliance that stops working, in this case it was her dryer...I figured it was a fuse so I needed the right tool to help get the tight screws off..as I went into the store, I was welcomed by a nice smile and welcome from a teenager ..it was early Wednesday 29th...he told me which isle to go to..first I had a woman employee help me..but she wasn't sure so she called Bob over ..it was obvious he wasn't fond of customers showing him pictures on their phone...he actually said to me, " How am I supposed to help you if you don't know the size..????, I was appalled,...no one has ever behaved like Bob did in all the years I've been going to Ace Hardware..Doug, the manager is all about Customer service...as I tried to explain myself, Bob actually said yet another disrespectful response,.."
