I really enjoy this store. Its close to home AND its has everything I need for gardening. Sometimes, it can be a bit of a challenge (especially outside) to find a service associate unless you head to the front of the store. But overall, they have a huge variety of things! I've been here a couple times and I can say I really like this Ace Hardware. They have a good selection of hardware that you'd expect from Ace as well as a great selection of other things you may want for outdoor grilling and gardening. Their garden center is a bit on the small side compared to the home depot up the street, but it's also a smaller store chain. Every time I go here, the people are super friendly and helpful. My last experience was doing propane swaps. I did 2x swaps and the second I walked in with the tanks (I had no idea what to do) a greeter told me to head outside and leave the tanks in front. After that, I went inside, was almost instantly rung up, and then went back out to see the same person waiting with both thanks waiting for me! Quick, painless, and friendly. I was on my way home from Lafayette Reservoir and remembered I needed to stop at an Ace Hardware store to pick up my Meat Church brand of brine and seasoning for my Thanksgiving turkey. My go to Ace Hardware is located in Livermore but I didn't want to drive that far. I pulled over in Danville and Yelped for an Ace Hardware near me and this store popped up in San Ramon. I have been here before when they opened about six years ago and forgot what beautiful store this is. Upon walking in I was greeted by an associate who asked if she could help find anything. I asked her to point me in the direction of BBQ seasoning and she walked me to the isle instead of directing me. Now that is customer service! This Ace Hardware also carries the Meat Church Brand of products and I scored what I was looking for including Meat Church Bird Baptism (brine), Honey Hog seasoning and a package of Chef J's heavy duty brine bags. Walked in bright and early one morning and was met with flaring eyes. Kid you not they looked at me and my son as if we were aliens. We walked around browsing and the 3 guys kept their eyes on us. Did they think we were stealing? I'm an Asian mom with my son just browsing for garden decor. When it was time to check out the cashier did not want to ring us out. I starred at him for couple minutes. When asked if I can enter my ace number he initiated their system is down. Right... The vibe was definitely off. AWESOME service from staff at Ace!!!!! I initially found a window screen repairman on Angie's List. But after he rescheduled on me 2x on the day of service, I finally headed to Ace. I have shopped here over the past few years but never knew that their Helpful Hub includes screen repair. The Ace staff over the phone and in-person are extremely nice, polite, professional, and helpful. I dropped off 2 screens that were ravaged by birds and then returned 1 week later to beautifully repaired versions of its old self. David did an amazing job! I went to Ace in San Ramon for the first time today. The store is big and beautiful. I only needed to return some picture hangers and had time to kill so googled the closest ace hardware. I was impressed when I walked in and wished I had more time to shop. While I was in line, I actually texted my friend that they needed to come check out this store. (They are doing a remodel and have shopped at Ace's in the Walnut Creek area multiple times a week for months) Unfortunately, Ace Hardware in San Ramon has a different owner and did not accept my return from Lafayettes store. I understand. And if I lived in the area I would likely shop here based on the size of the store, but I cannot recommend to my friend who lives in Lafayette to shop here since it seems they would have to come all the way back if one of the items didn't work out. (Assuming all the locations have the same policy). Too bad. Not taking a $9 return cost them literally hundreds in future business. read more

I walked into the store and was immediately approached with not one but two employees offering their assistance. Great customer service. I purchases weatherstripping for my front door at another vendor. The stripping was 1/2 inch too long. I inquired if they would be able to shorten the aluminum strip and ACE in San Ramon said YES!! Note: the other vendor was not able to assist. ACE offered for me to return if the strip was in need of additional adjusting. I am 70 years old and I was doing a DIY project on my front door. Frustrating day at ACE in SR today. Needed a few things engraved so as soon as we walked in, I asked an employee. The employee said the person that does engraving is on lunch and will be done in 10mins. Cool, no problem. 15mins passed, found another employee about engraving. The employee said the person that does engraving is on lunch and will be done in 10mins. Ok. The manager came by and said "my guy will be done in 10mins" ok thanks. Apparently they never told him. Finally found this unicorn employee who said he gotta help with a customer with a remote and will be done in 5mins. Ok thanks. 10mins later another employee came to help me but couldn't figure out how to use the machine. Waited over 30 mins for her to try and figure it out but she couldn't. She said she had to wait for the unicorn employee to help. After over an hour, I left. The unicorn employee was still outside helping someone. Pretty much everyone lied and never followed up with me. I had decent experience at ACE prior as I think their customer service is much better than Home Depot; but today was frustrating. read more

Overpriced, Unprofessional. I had my screens repaired at this store. I had previously repaired 2 screens every 2 weeks prior and thought the quote was high, but I was ok with it. However, on the most recent screen repair service, the manager charged me $10-$12 (I.e. $60+ for a 2' x 2.5' screen). I thought it was more than I previously paid. When I got home, I confirmed it. I also noticed the estimate sheet shows no price, so could not complain ... quite unprofessional to not provide a cost on the estimate. I feel the store cheated me and I will not give this store my future business. I would go to the Dublin store as the cost of their services is much more reasonable. read more

Love this neighborhood store! I mainly come here to train my dog Zeus a few times a month. The workers are so kind and are respectful you of training and ask politely to pet or offer treats to Zeus. Our favorite area is the garden area with many different smells to socialize him with and he gets to see one of his favorite employees Julia. But when I need to come here they have everything I need from plant/garden care, home decor, bird feed, fly traps, patio decor, paint, grill accessories, heck they even have delicious homemade pies! My review is for the San Ramon location. I do not like writing bad reviews but feedback to the owners is necessary in this day and age as I try really hard to support local business. My landscaper bought a 6 station irrigation timer, I added a couple extra stations to my project. I needed the 12 station timer, I returned UNOPENED what was purchased (and cannot find the receipt) and asked if I could upgrade to the 12 , the clerk said no way without receipt, period. I shop there all the time and its upsetting to think I'll probably go elsewhere next time or get it on Amazon where if we do make a mistake I can exchange without feeling like 5 cents waiting for change......Now I have to eat the 6 station and went over to Home Depot to get a 12 station timer.... read more

When the door open and all the Christmas decor was freaking amazing I fell in love I'm from San Jose and the decor is so different I loved it and of course I brought some and then we walked into the kitchen part I was so blown away totally fall in love with all the decor there so well put together Whoever put this place together had thee perfect vision of the people. I love the SR Ace Hardware - it's become a favorite place for me. The store is just beautiful inside - airy, clean, neat, and well-stocked - but the best thing about it is that it is chocked full of genuinely nice staff. The whole store is such a wonderful addition to our town! Something really special about this Ace is their quality of customer service. Whenever I've walked in looking for something- tension rods, caulk, a fake owl to scare away the squirrels from my garden, even a duplicate key - there's always someone to smile, ask me what I'm looking for, and point me in the right direction. The people there will go out of their way to help you find exactly the right sizing and / or tool for the job. Wow- what an awesome time saver and such a great idea ! So far, their staff has re-screened the window mesh (Thanks, Scott!), made duplicate keys, helped me locate just the right fake owl, and led me to figuring out the correct size for the tension rods I want installed inside some bathroom windows. I've purchased several plants and shrubs from the garden center, and someone is always kind enough to help me carry and load them into my car. "Finally a new hardware store in San Ramon!" I happened to come by on a cool Wednesday morning, which was also the soft opening of Ace Hardware in San Ramon. I had a long conversation with Wayne, the store manager, who explained their philosophy of doing business. This is a family-run business, which emphasizes top quality service. So that's what sets them apart from the Big Box hardware stores. This store took over the Old Orchard Supply Hardware store, right next to the wine store. The day that I visited, multiple staff members asked if I needed any help and guided me to a few things I came here to pick up. It was such a pleasure to finally find a hardware store with good customer service. The customer service and expertise here is the best! We have a few hardware stores in our area, but we go to this Ace location anytime we have a question. Most recently we needed help finding replacement bulbs for our street number light box. The employee helping us immediately knew what kind of bulb we needed, where to get it (auto parts store in our case), but also had an in-store alternative/upgraded solution! (The hardware store closest was nice enough, but their employee just compared bulb sizes and with what was on their shelf and said "Doesn't look like any of these are the same." I called ahead on this rainy day, and I was looking for a specific part that I didn't even know how to describe because it concerns hardware and that is not my area of expertise. The person on the phone was able to translate what I was saying into real words and Informed me that they had two different sizes of the part. I asked for the prices and the prices were fair. I was also going to get the part today rather than waiting for two days on Amazon for a similar price. I drove to the store and quickly found parking right outside. I walked in and noticed that it was a very large and clean hardware store. The person that greeted me at the front recognized my voice and showed me where the stairs and elevator were. I walked up the stairs with my son and, two people pointed me in the right direction from already knowing what I was looking for as they were about the information from the first person that I spoke to. I am a novice when it comes to small home repairs, but thought I could handle a small leak in a bathroom faucet. The small project uncovered more problems to deal with, and it actually took over a week to get everything fixedresolved. Over that span of time I must have gone back to this Ace Hardware store 5 or 6 times, sometimes twice in one day. Through all those visits, I was always able to find Dan in the plumbing section, and he helped me solve the problems step by step. He started me off with small fix options (costing less than $5), and we didn't go to the higher cost options (parts costing $20) until we tried the lower cost solutions first. He advised what new tools I might need in one potentially problematic step (even commenting on how expensive it was), but I bought one anyway and eventually returned it when the problem luckily did not arise. He was extremely patient and helped in a collaborative way that made him seem just as vested in fixing the problem as I was. A very big shout out to Dan! read more

These guys saved me a ton of money on a replacement car key fob. I had been to the dealership and to 3 different locksmiths trying to just get the key part of my fob cut, and had been quoted hundreds of dollars. In separate transactions the team at Ace special ordered me the correct key part (around $40), provided the cutting service ($60), "programmed" the key for my vehicles' make and model, then verified that the key was working, so all in all, for my new key I was out the door with hundreds of dollars of savings left in my pocket. He spent time and found the correct part. The part is only 75cents but his kindness and patience worth thousand. I was able to fix it and felt very good that I did it. I LOVE ACE hardware. My dad has been raving about this store for years because the service is really THAT good. Only now that I am working on a project myself am I realizing that he was right all this time. I highly suggest heading to ACE if you are a beginner, need advice on a project, or value solid customer service. The staff has so much knowledge regarding every type of project you could imagine -- and if the person you are talking to does not know the answer, they can most definitely call another person in the store over to help you! Every single time that I have come here I have left extremely satisfied and optimistic about my project! They have a great return policy and the location is super convenient. I have found myself stopping over after my weekly grocery trips to Sprouts to pick up a couple supplies for my ongoing dining table project! The one negative that I have is that the prices are a bit steeper than competitors (like Home Depot for example).
