Bad experience at ACE Alamo today !! I am 66 years old have shopped at this location for over 40 years and have never received such a bad attitude from any employee ! Over the years I have purchased dozens of bags of soil concrete etc. Today I went in and bought 6 (not 60) bags of fencepost mix. I backed my truck within 6 feet of the pallet of concrete. After a few minutes a guy came out to load them. I opened the tailgate and asked if he would evenly stack the bags for proper weight distribution because I needed to load a bunch of other materials and drive 150+ miles. Instant attitude ! He threw the first two in and I knew this wasn't going to go well. Then the third had an obvious hole the size of a quarter in it that leaked concrete all over the back of my Rivian as he threw it in. When I told him that I didnt want the one with the hole, he reluctantly removed it leaking a lot more concrete. He threw the last three in wherever and walked away ! BTW this guy was not new or a young kid in training, he was a seasoned employee with a bad attitude !! read more

This place is so convenient, with tons of staff around to help guide you to the right area, provide advice on products and answer questions. For a pretty small sized hardware store, they almost always have what I need. I feel like when I go in here I can get honest advice I'd get from my dad. It's a pretty cool feeling. They have a huge section dedicated to gift store stuff and kitchen gadgets, as well as an outdoor garden center. Hidden in the back is another outdoor area with a ton of irrigation supplies, pipes, etc. Prices are pretty competitive with the big box stores like Home Depot. Maybe a tiny bit more, but for the convenience of a closer location it's worth it. Parking can be a little hectic when it's busy, but it's all right out front. read more

This place is outstanding, and it's not just because of the products (which are great). What really sets it apart is the staff. Every time I visit, the employees are friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. I honestly can't remember ever walking through the store without someone asking if I needed assistance finding something. I wanted to specifically recognize an employee named David, whom I've interacted with during my last two visits. If you need advice on sauces or rubs, he's the guy to talk to. His knowledge and customer service are second to none. On my most recent visit, I came in looking for a specific item that I really needed. Another employee let me know they were sold out and wasn't sure when more inventory would arrive. David overheard the conversation, walked over, and asked, "How many do you need?" When I told him I only needed one, he replied, "I have one I can give you." To my surprise, he actually went out to his car and gave me the item I needed. I was genuinely blown away by his kindness and willingness to help. I'm writing this review to say thank you to David for going above and beyond. So I am a local electrician/ handyman and I spend a lot of time buying materials in hardware stores so I'm one contractor that has his eyes open for what's best for not only myself but my customers as well. This afternoon after completing some minor electrical work for a customer,the woman asked me if I could replace the 40 year old hose Bibb in the back of her house. Long story short this turned into a Hugh mess and I found myself at Alamo Hardware with an employee named Al and the manager himself working on this frozen part and the ace crew were 100% trying everything they sold in an attempt to resolve problem regardless of the fact I only needed a $2.00 washer. If there is one thing i cannot tolerate, it is the mass marketing of toxic crap like forever chemicals. Where am I going with this? Ace Hardware used to sell a kind of a plastic tarp that I have bought many times from them. They last a couple of years and then fall apart in the sun. And when they do, they sort of unspool into flourescent blue, yellow etc. strings. Then I would buy a replacement. I decided to go after the old fashioned type made of canvas. Because I am a retired biochemist, I asked AI about the presence of forever chemicals in canvas tarps and learned that unless it specifically says otherwise, all canvas tarps that are colored are loaded with fluorocarbon forever chemicals. And the worst part about this is these chemicals leach off rather easily from the tarps over time and contaminate your precious property. When I passed by the last aisle I noticed that Ace moved the tarps to that last aisle and , not only were all of them canvas and colored, but also enclosed in clear plastic bags. Went in for some parts to fix my outdoor water fountain and I had no idea where anything was. Upon walking in I was instantly greeted and helped by Matt and Bruce. They knew exactly what I needed and didn't mind showing me exactly where to find each item. My trip was short and sweet and I was checked out without any issues at all. This place is awesome! I came here with an old rusty Coleman lantern from the 50's with one screw that was rusted in so badly I couldn't get it out. Gavin and Flynn worked at it for an hour trying a variety of tools and methods to get it out before resorting to an extractor. Along the way they gave me a lot of tips to try for next time. This is the most helpful hardware store I have ever been to and I really appreciate how helpful everyone here is. And The Kitchen --- I have never seen a hardware store with if you're such a selection of kitchenware and cooking equipment. Seriously, if you are into bakeware you can get yourself into a LOT of trouble here ;=) Great place, worth a visit. read more

I went into the store to see how I could reinforce my weber grill knobs since two of mine had broken. The store manager, Keith, happen to walk by and asked me what I was looking for, and I told him I needed a way to reinforce my grill knobs. He said don't worry they are under warranty. He had new replacement knobs in the back room, no charge, and I was back to grilling with my Summit grill I purchased from this store several years ago, along with my Traeger BBQ a year later. I have been shopping this store ever since it replaced Yardbirds for my hardware store and BBQ/Grilling needs, it's convenient as heck for me being two miles from my home. This is the most amazing store!! The Christmas shop has the most wonderful selection of home decor, candles and gift giving ideas. As soon as I stepped inside the door I found the most darling outdoor Christmas lights. The home decor and kitchen shop is always my year round go to place whenever I need the perfect gift or something new for myself. This location also has such a great selection of gifts for kids. I was there recently with a friend and it was hard to decide between all the darling plush for her grandchildren. If you haven't yet discovered this gem you're missing out!!! ACE in Alamo CA has an extremely helpful and knowledgeable salesman named BRUCE (Isle #12), who assisted me with measuring, selecting, and cutting PVC pipe to create the perfect perch for the vultures at the CA Raptor Center. All I had to do was measure the height, width/depth, length of the original perch I hoped to copy, drop off the measurements on my lunchbreak, and Bruce did the rest! I picked up the cut pieces, plus corresponding elbows and T-joints the same day! Because the intended use was to help education and ambassador animals, Bruce also provided a discount! Bruce could not have been more friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and enjoyable to work with! The vultures--Merry and Pippin--wanted Bruce to know how much they ADORE their matching perches! To start, the prices were expensive. I recently moved into a new home with my amazing wife and two daughters & noticed two lightbulbs in our general-room were no 'working' despite my efforts to repair them. When I arrived at Ace Hardware I was greeted by a young-man, Gavin. He offered to help me find the items I needed. I showed the young-man my non-functional 'OSRAM 8029' lightbulb (picture attached below I found online). I was then lead upon a wild-goose chase to the light-bulb section of the store to find what I needed... The young-man tried his best to locate my exact model I required. He was unable to locate the model, despite this store being a 'hardware' store they did not have what I needed. The boy did however find me a "suitable" alternative, though the color-matching was noticeably much more yellow, very much not the "same"... Very poor experience with Alamo ace hardware last weekend. When a paid advertisement on google indicated that it was in stock, I drove all the way out from San Leandro to pick up a red wagon. Inquired to the product when we got there and they offered to order one, as the "in stock" item was the display and the manager wasn't willing to take the time to get it down for us. This lack of service is why in-person retail is dying. I was willing to spend $70 more for the item if I could get it today... instead I went home and got it the next day from Amazon without the nasty attitude and high price. If you're not willing to sell what's in store, why even have it listed as "in stock" or available for pickup that day?? read more
