Here's what we ordered: 1/2 pound brisket 1/2 pound pulled pork Street corn Mac n cheese The brisket was by far the best of the two meats we got, nice and juicy, tender meat and well paired with the house bbq sauce Pulled pork was a bit dry and salty, although adding the habanero bbq sauce elevated it a bit Street corn was the best tasting side dish, macaroni was mediocre. I really didn't have a problem with my chicken... It fell off the bone, was super juicy/tender and had a nice flavor... However, my husband ABSOLUTELY HATED his brisket, sausage and peach cobbler. I really love Black's, and I think they have the best brisket in Lockhart and feel like that's saying a whole lot! What they don't have however is the best brisket in Austin. I also feel like the Austin location isn't quite as good as the Lockhart shop. The brisket at Black's has a delicious light oak smoke. It's a little bit saltier than I would like but regardless is some very solid Central Texas Brisket. The bark is kinda shiny, like they spray it down with apple juice or something with sugar in it, I think the brisket could do without whatever they are spraying it with but it doesn't effect the flavor of the brisket so much that I can let it go. Where Black's really steps up their game is the handmade sausage. Blacks has if not the best one of the best sausages in the barbecue game. The casing they us is always crisp and tender, the stuffing in the sausage isn't greasy or overly fatty and the sausage itself is packed loosely. I've been to establishments that were known for the specialty sausages that don't seem to have half the sausage making skill as whomever is making the sausages at Black's. You cant go wrong eating at Black's, its good legitimate Central Texas BBQ. There's also almost never a line at this location... soo if you're in the are and hungry don't pass it up. read more

Ok so the other day the 17th we ordered from blacks trying something new based on a recommendation from a friend (which we called to question their minds afterwards) and were pleased at that menu. Placed our order 70 bucks worth of food and to be honest we were upset. Order 1/2 pound of ribs got 1 rib got, order pt of the st corn got way more sauce than corn and it had so much black pepper we couldn't even eat it and just to let you my BF is a chef he couldn't eat it and I have seem him eat some ridiculous spicy things. Now to be fair and honest we did like the sauce, the chop beef sandwich (little greasy but ok, more sauce, we like that sauce) , banana pudding and the friendly service guy when you walk in. After driving over an hour for the "legendary" bbq turns out it was some of the worst that we have had. Not quite sure why they gave us a bowl of grease with some scraps of meat and fat in it and called it chopped beef see pics. The cornbread muffins were extremely dry, probably a couple days old and had no flavor to speak of we had one of each. The brisket was pretty fatty and lacked flavor also. I went on a random road trip to ATX and we decided on getting some 'cue. This spot has been on my list for some time, and I was ready to check off another box. We met the friendliest guy in line who went there often with his coworkers, and gave us the ins and out of the menu. He advised us to get the beef rib and we saw several other people ordering this as well. We ended up choosing brisket, sausage, a beef rib, and Mac and cheese. The highlight of the meal was hands down the Mac and cheese. It was some of the best I've had. The beef rib was not nearly as meaty as I would have liked, and the meat was on the drier and chewier side. The meat is sold by the pound and the rib alone was close to $20, and it was definitely not worth it (that day at least). The sausage had no snap to the casing and really lacked a good overall flavor. My friend said the brisket was just okay, and it was probably the best of the meats we tried. You order at the counter, but the counter is right at the entrance which leaves the customers waiting outside in the elements. People leaving the restaurant also go out the same doors, so it can make for a crowded area. Even just a different exit door or maybe a covering on the sidewalk could make that a more seamless process. But really, the main concern here was the lack of quality in the meats we experienced on this given day. read more

I don't know how to hype up Black's in the review because it just is good. Like there's no mincing words when I say it is incredible. You are missing out if you eat BBQ and haven't been to Black's. Hands down incredible BBQ and sides and desserts. Went here for lunch on a Saturday and the wait was about 10 minutes, so not that long. I would still come here though even if the wait was ever actually long. It is slightly pricy here, but definitely worth it. Definitely recommend trying at least one of everything, including the pecan cobbler and mac and cheese. Normally we would drive to Lockhart to get Black's famous brisket but today we didn't want to drive an hour to get it. So we heard they opened in Austin and here we are. Parking here is trickier than in Lockhart. Once we found the free parking structure behind the Wild Wood Bake House we were in. We stopped in the bakery just to be sure parking there was free and available to all these local businesses and they confirmed it was. Awesome! This location is very nice, on the smaller side. Only complaint is the blaring TVs everywhere you look. I'm not a fan of having the TV on during a meal. I want to focus on my meal and the conversation. The food is great. Not as many side options as the original but just as tasty. We ordered 1/2 lb of both Turkey and Fatty Brisket. Both were incredibly juicy and flavorful. The sides we chose were green beans and potato salad. We loved both. They have a bar where you get your pickles, onions, & jalapeños. I picked up all three. The pickles were extra spicy to me. Now to be fair I added the habanero hot sauce to my BBQ sauce and I'm not sure if it was afterburn or the actual pickles. But I'm thinking their pickles are spicy. We really liked that we could bop over to Wild Wood Bake House for dessert after. Definitely a great place for BBQ. We will be back and you should try it too! read more
