I jest but they do have a great selection of rare and sought after whiskeys that will make you the envy of your whiskey drinking friends, when you buy them. Had great service a while back with expert help picking a nice whiskey gift for my husband. Great advice willingly given without pressure. Thought it would be a great place to visit to pick up some Christmas gifts during weekend shopping. Seem to be closed on a Saturday. I don't understand the retail decision here but I can't be the only one who thinks this is mad during the run up to a major festive holiday when people are looking for gifts and BOOZE! read more

One needs good scotch during a pandemic. In this case, one needs good scotch to gift a friend who helped them out during the pandemic. Went online to find an elusive scotch called Scapa The Orcadian. Highly recommended by a friend as an excellent gift. Couldn't find it anywhere local to Oakland...except Blackwell's (two locations - SF and San Rafael). I ordered online for curbside pickup at 11am and by noon received an email that the order would be ready for pickup at 4pm. The only glitch was I didn't have the option to choose which location to pick up at...so just made sure to give a call (after an email) and they said they'd have it at San Rafael...they're couriering over bottles from the SF location. I arrived at 3:30, called to let them know I was early, but happy to wait. No need - they had it and so I went to the front door with my mask, she came to the front door with my bottle in her mask, and boom...done. For the bonus...after crossing back over the Richmond bridge, I picked up some live crab at 99 Ranch. So all in all, an excellent outing. Wouldn't hesitate to order from them again...and look forward to when they're able to open shop again so I can peruse the aisles! read more

I love this store but it is NEVER OPEN. Closes at 4:30 on weekdays and is closed all weekend. It's a liquor store, not a bank! I imagine it isn't just me and that if they had more reasonable hours they'd be doing a lot more business. So many times I've wanted to go buy something and no dice. Perfect example, today it's Saturday afternoon and I'm on my way to a bachelor party. I would've spent a few hundred easy but it's closed. So I'm leaving my first YELP review in like 15 years. We are so happy Blackwell's landed in San Rafael! This is a fantastic wine and spirits store that's fully stocked and ready to go everything you might need. They have a great selection of wines, with a full, well-priced section of Rosé wines. They also have an amazing champagne, California sparkling, Cava & Prosecco section that are also well priced. I would say their prices are way better (as is their selection) than BevMo. Their liquor section is also something to note. It one of the best in our area for sure. They had some tequila and mezcal's that I've never seen before. Quite a nice selection. The service was great here too. Michelle was super friendly and helped guide us to exactly what we needed. This store is well organized, very clean and safe. It's also easy to get to if you're coming off the highway and there's usually plenty of street parking. I highly recommend this store. I placed and order and it required a signature however, it did not arrive and when I called the delivery company "F X"... they told me to contact the company I purchased the item from and to have them file a claim... I sent an email after talking to someone in the store, no return call,... finally after another couple emails and calls, a nice gentleman told me that I would have to contact my credit card company.... Had it with BevMo? Especially now that they've become a glorified convenience store? (Seriously. I want bourbon. Not breakfast cereal and candy.) Blackwell's is fantastic. I can't believe we never noticed it, in all the times we've been through San Rafael. Had a field day in there when no one else in Marin had Averna. Got that and a few gins we haven't seen since we went to Scotland. Now Blackwell's is one of our go-to's,, right up there with Vintage Wine and Spirits in Mill Valley. read more

It's really great that there is long-standing high quality boutique for the best selection of hard to find items in San Francisco is now operating in San Raphael. . Can be hard to park in San Francisco. In my case is coming by San Raphael when I'm driving north is pretty much weekly occurrence. Dita the charming co owner is always helpful. read more

Blackwell's is a gem. Well-curated wine selection and unique and artisanal spirits (Pink Italian Gin!), along with all the typical favorites. Prices were better than competitive, even less than BevMo and supermarkets. The nice guy working there (owner?) gave me a few wonderful suggestions. No pressure. Very helpful. I ordered on line a bottle of scotch January 2. I got a receipt from Blackwell's and that the bottle would arrive January 10. Well, January 10 came and went. FedEx was called and said that they never received any product. I have called Blackwell's twice and left messages and so far no response. I'm highly disappointed by their customer service. I ordered some limited edition whiskey from Blackwell's . Upon receiving the shipment I noticed that the protective box was not shipped, as well as this shipment was poorly packaged. ( I had ordered the same bottle 1 month earlier and it came with the protective box... all bottles do ) The main casket box has dented corners as well. After calling and asking for the protective box, they denied that it would be normally shipped. Such a crock !! Every limited edition whiskey is being shipped with the protective box. Then I got nothing but excuses... This is not the 1st time I ordered from Blackwell's but it durn sure was the last time. read more
