My first visit to this location. I think it was about a decade ago that I went to the location in the loop. If memory serves it was near Michigan and Randolph. I stopped in on National Brisket and Hamburger Day. Their brisket smashburger was pretty tasty. Next time I'll ask to hold the grilled onions as those affect the crust you can achieve on the burger without them. Had it plain with just pickles on the side. Gave me a nice pile of scrumptious pickles. Beer battered onion rings were great too. Menu says add fries or ring for $3 more, but it charged me $4. I was shocked they don't take cash. I was looking for somewhere to eat for lunch and Blackwood BBQ was close by and BBQ sounded good. I ordered on Uber Eats for Pick up. When I walked in I was greeted and I let the gentleman know that I had a online order. I asked for two additional sauces and they were very nice about it. The ambiance was really good you could see them cooking in the back and it was very clean and modern inside. I tried the Meats and Two Sides Combo. Moist Brisket and Pull Chicken. Mac and Cheese, Fries, Corn bread muffin, and all of their sauces The Moist Brisket had a lot of fat in it but was good and flavorful. The Pull Chicken was my favorite. Being from Kansas City I feel I know my bbq pretty well. This place was a pleasant surprise and it was my first time trying Chicago bbq. First off the staff was great the guy at the counter was super friendly and gave us some recommendations. The meat was super tender and had some great flavor. I got the St Louis style ribs and they were fall off the bone. The sides were pretty great as well and a wide variety to choose from. Inside was different but kind of fun. The service was good. He was very nice. the food on the other hand was very different. The lean brisket sandwich was good. The french fries were very good. the quesadilla was weird. I'm not really sure what it tasted like but the chicken did not look like it was cooked, but we were told that's how it's marinated, but it still was just scary to me. The Twinkie bites are not Twinkie at all. They're just cream cheese and pork. which I was very sad to see because we were wanting something sweet. the queso dip was OK, but it tasted more like hummus to me. I love the idea that they gave you a free piece of cobbler after your meal, but ours was very saggy. for the portion size you get which is on the small side even for sides, it is very overpriced. And the variety of sauce is glorious.!! I keep coming back here because the food is delicious. Let's talk about opportunities for improvement. Please, please, please make it standard operating procedure to clean the barbecue sauce, bottles, and tops that sit on the tables for your customers to use. It is clear that that is not one of your nightly closing duties. I came this morning at opening and the bottles were crusty.. Every time I come, you never have Burnt ends. For four adults and two young children, we shared the following and had leftovers: 1) One pound of beef brisket - There is a decent amount of fat to these sliced briskets, rendering them especially tender and moist. 2) One pound of pulled chicken - It is a mix of white and dark meat. We don't generally order pulled chicken but we are fans of these. 3) Two Nashville hot chicken sandwiches - These are hefty sandwiches with a good kick. This is the second time I came to this location. I had some taste for some barbecue. This place is located in a strip mall off the road. They have plenty of private parking. As you walk in there we're 1 page menus halfway towards the ordering area. They do all touch screens and they do not take cash! A bit concerning because what happens if you have a customer that has cash and no credit cards on them what do you do then? We placed our orders on the screen and picked up a pager in the basket then entered our pager #. If you need help using the touchscreens, they do have someone to assist you. We ordered the platter which was about $80 that feeds 6 to 7 people and you get to try the majority of their meats like a sampler platter, including three large sides and comes with five sweet cornbread and three Texas toast. So drinks and desserts are a separate cost. So the 5 of us in our party was plenty and we had leftovers. Cost about $110 including tip. They have indoor and outdoor seating...including single seating at the bar area where you can also watch sporting events on their flatscreen TVs. The place was clean and this is a fairly new establishment. Our platter of meats came with slices of brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, a half of Kansas style whole chicken, pork sausages, st. Louis ribs, and five sweet cornbread that has actual corn kernels inside, aside of dill pickles, and pickled red onions. Our three sides we chose mac & cheese, smoked beans with pork or brisket bits, seasoned french fries. The brisket was juicy, the pulled pork was OK kinda dry, The pulled chicken was soft and juicy, the half of Kansas style whole chicken was dark, but it didn't taste burnt It was pretty good and juicy, the pork sausage slices were flavorful and juicy I liked it, I also liked the smoked ringed St. Louis ribs. I liked the Sweet cornbread. It look like a muffin had corn kernels and it was enough to eat. The Texas toast was three slices. They were pretty good size to split if you wanted to and tasty. Both sides were crispy like it was cooked on a buttered flat iron. I liked that they gave us pickled red onions and sliced pickles on the side. it helped cut the fat when you're eating the meats. For dessert, we tried one of their sliced pies, which was a coconut, lychee cream pie. It was pretty good. It showed the sign that their pies came from bang bang pies from Chicago. For our drinks, we went across the room to the other side they had plenty of fountain drink choices, including lemonade, which was really lemony lemonade, sweetened tea, and also unsweetened tea. The sauces were also good from Memphis sweet to really spicy about 6 different kinds of sauces to choose from at the table. We even had a gentleman that came to us and asked how our food was tasting not sure if it was the owner, but that was pretty nice that they came by. When we wanted to go containers, it was right upfront that we helped ourselves. Overall a good experience and we tried all the different types of meats. We were happy with the meal and definitely we plan to come back here again when the weather is warmer to eat outside. read more

Its's okay, but honestly just nit impressed. The meats NEED the sauces. They do not list what is gluten free sauce wise so I just assume I cannot have any. Trued the ribs, pulled pork and jackfruit. All were just meh. Roasted brussel sprouts were soggy in a kinda sweet sauce, but we did get togo so that might have been a factor. My partner says the mac and cheese is very good. I had the pulled pork - very nice and I really enjoyed the variety of the sauces. Not sure I believe in a " Chicago bbq sauce" but the others were close in flavor to expected. I do wish though it had come with more than 1 piece of Texas toast. The " toast" was like white bread- not thick like Texas toast. There just wasn't enough bread vs meat proportion. Getting the platter is THE BEST and I highly recommend it because you get some of EVERYTHING and it feeds 2-3 people! The platter had brisket, pulled pork, sausage, smoked chicken, pulled chicken and a huge half piece of chicken called Alabama chicken - it was smoked, brines and deep fried; it was my FAVORITE! The sides were better than I expected as well- the Mac and cheese was actually tasty and most places cannot get Mac and cheese right, however they did! I even liked the brussel sprouts! They were charred and tasty! They even have a smoked Jackfruit option, which is great for vegetarians, but meat lovers are a big fan of it as well They have tacos here too! The drinks (and the variety) were pleasantly surprising for a "quick-service" type place. To order the food, there were two self-serve kiosks with pictures and the ability to customize anything. It's on the "modern-side" and could be harder to navigate if you don't have experience through these type of menus. But no worries if you have questions! The workers there were helpful and kind. First time visiting Blackwood BBQ and was impressed! The inside has fun decor and design elements all nodding to country music, southern living, and bbq vibes. One orders at a kiosk near the menu board and waits for their buzzer to go off signifying the food is ready. When we asked what their most popular meats were, the worker said the Burnt Ends and Brisket (the only two meats on menu with a $2.50 & $3 upcharge). I understand adding cost for specialty items but this felt like a large increase to add. We ended up ordering the Pulled Chicken, Pulled Pork, and side of Smoked Beans & Texas Toast. I enjoyed that they offer six sauces to self pour/add to the meats you get. The Chicago and Alabama were our favorites! I also got a large side of Mac & Cheese and Cornbread. The Mac & Cheese was tasty but had a large pool of oil on the bottom that kept dripping a lot with my bites. The Cornbread had good flavor but was very crumbly. Meat portions were a bit small for the price but everything also tasted fresh and good quality. Overall, I really enjoyed Blackwood BBQ and would certainly come back when craving some good bbq food. read more

I like how they had a sauce station, absolutely mandatory for bbq joints moving forward. We had a few things starting with the Cowboy Fries. I loved the pickled onions and pickles balancing out the fries and cotija cheese heaviness. Yet, these fries were packed with flavor. Next up I got the Fatty Brisket. I really wanted to try their burnt ends, but they sold out of them for the day. So I did the next best thing because they use the fatty piece of the brisket for their burnt ends. I really liked the brisket, it was solid and paired well with the chicago sauce and North Carolina sauce. Then I was told by one of my friends to try the Smoked Chicken with the Alabama sauce. That was phenomenal and 100% the best pairing for chicken I've seen at a BBQ spot. Their 3 cheese Mac was decently sharp, I do wish it was more gooey though. The honey cheddar corn bread was solid, but go with the Mac and cheese as a side. Overall, a solid place and I need to come back to try their brisket burger. read more

Stopped by today on the fly and we were glad we did! It was not busy and the fellow at the counter had the time to spend with us telling us about the different items on the menu. We even got a sample of an item, which I really appreciated! We both went with the Brisket fry basket and it was delicious! The brisket was lean and the fries were surprisingly very, very good. I ate all of mine, lol and so did my friend! The cole slaw was very fresh and not overwhelmed with mayo..had nice flavor! The large sliced pickles are subtly sweet and a great contrast against the brisket and fries. The inside is ok, pretty casual. Each table has a large roll of brown paper towels. You use what you need. Utensils are plastic but there may be metal ones available. Cups are standard disposable types. I noticed a pleasant partly shaded, outdoor seating area with one side flanked by greenery. The only thing that was not to my liking was the strong smell of smokey BBQ as soon as I entered the restaurant. Perhaps they need better ventilation. I almost forgot about this other thing. They do not accept cash. That bugs me. It should be illegal that our U.S. currency is not welcome in an American establishment in America. read more

Got a 2 meat 2 sides platter with 2x brisket, a side of beans, brussel sprouts, and a fountain drink that cost me $25. Asked for no pork (I can't eat pork) in the beans considering it's just a few chunks of pork anyways. For some reason they said they were unable to, which if it was in the sauce or something understandable, but that wasn't the case. Ended up with a couple measly slivers of brisket. You know when it was pizza day at school and they would give you a fraction of an actual slice? That. It's just unacceptable to be charging that much and for the portions to be that poor. I am always looking a good spot for perfectly cooked food, and people being very accommodating, when I went in for the first time I wanted the full experience and so I order the spread, best believe that I had one tray thinking it was just that and the lady was kind enough to bring the second tray, and boy I was in for a treat of how good everything was cooked from temperature to the taste hard to find good cornbread very well cooked. I fell in love with it and every single meat on that spread. The whole place was empty and I loved how everyone working was just in sync of working and preparing the food. For anyone wanting to try the best bbq ever try the spread 1million percent recommend.
