I'm a huge Italian fan and I was expecting something decent when ordering a pizza however, after eating a cold soggy pizza then being told it's because it's Neapolitan I was slightly annoyed. I can understand it's the style of pizza, but I couldn't pick up a single slice of pizza without the entirety of the toppings falling off let alone it being cold so that's a double whammy. It's alright though because sometimes everyone needs to be humbled with a cold sloppy piece of pizza that makes you want to start a new life. I highly recommend this place to punish your kids if they are being bad or getting poor grades! Also I'm not great at math but it took over 30 minutes to get our gelato and I'm pretty sure you don't put ice cream in the oven. We just came here for dinner the other night, and it was amazing! We ordered the ahi tartar to start off, which was surprisingly really good. For our entrees, we ordered a pizza and the lobster farrotto. The dishes didn't seem oily compared to other Italian restaurants and were very tasty. And the best part of dinner was the dessert!! Holy moly - their strawberry panna cotta was delicious!! We actually first discovered this restaurant when we came to get a takeout of the strawberry panna cotta. At Blade 1936, we are always welcomed in a warm environment. Evan, our waiter, was wonderful... personable, and attentive to our requests. We had a great time. We were waited on with a white glove service by the manager. In the past we have always been visited by a manager or owner feel a personalized touch to our experience there. Thank you for making us feel special. The pizza crust is the best I've ever had, and the owner once told us that all of their ingredients are imported fresh from Italy. I think you can taste the quality of Italy in each bite. Plus, the mussels (every time) are on point, as the greatest dish on their menu, in my own opinion. We saw the 4.7 rating and decided to give it a try. We were pretty disappointed. First off very loud. We couldn't even hear each other talk. Not good for a date night. Our waitress was very nice. However the table runners need to communicate better. We ordered drinks and meal all at the same time. First we got our salad, which was the highlight the meal. We had to ask for bread (not warm, tasted more like sourdough than Italian) and our drinks which had still not come. Then the entrees arrived. My husband had ordered the ribeye steak. It was cooked medium rare but there was so much fat and gristle he could barely eat half of it. My short rib was very tender but flavorless and swimming in a very bland gray looking gravy. It came with sage butter gnocchi but I don't know if it was good because it too, was swimming in gravy. Maybe we should have ordered pasta as those are the dishes that seem to get the rave reviews. Or, maybe they should stick to pizza. There are too many other Italian places we enjoy. We won't be back. read more

Walking in smelled like a cross between fish and cheese. Not in a good way. The restaurant was packed and LOUD. Tile flooring, while great for clean up, is horrible in a restaurant because it amplifies sound. After being seated we waited over 10 minutes for water. Unfiltered Oceanside water. Gross. They actually touted it. Had to wait another 5 minutes before our waitress showed up and she was a bit surprised we were ready to order. No apology for making us wait. My deep fried calzone was good, except the marinara was SALTY! Thank goodness it was on the side. Another member in our group had the calzone picante and it was raw in the middle. The mozzarella wasn't melted and it was cold. They did say it had a great flavor. I finished off with the lemon cheesecake that was gritty and dry. Polly's Pies in Huntington Beach has a lemon cheese pie that is far superior as is The Cheesecake Factory's. Finally we had to remind the waitress to bring us our leftover pizza. She actually told us she couldn't remember where she put it but would try and find it. I was hoping the waitress would ask how the meal was. She didn't. The waitress was clueless. Apparently she was a barista prior to this job who had to ask a coworker to make my sister's cappuccino because she just couldn't get it right. I don't go to restaurants to learn about the sever and their life. I don't want to know everything that goes on behind the scenes. Just provide good service and good food, then go away until needed. I live within walking distance of the restaurant and will not be going again. Some members of our group were from Tulsa. Apparently there is a pizza place in Tulsa that has better food. Also, Tony's, in San Francisco is better according to our group. I'm not sure though as it was so loud I had a hard time hearing the conversation. Olive Garden has better food. read more

We just had our rehearsal dinner at Blade for about 40 people. It was above and beyond our expectations. The quality of food was outstanding, the wine selection was amazing. The staff was on point and attentive. They even dressed the tables with linens and flowers. Everything was perfect and the price was definitely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that was provided. I would give Blade 10 stars if I could. Went here for the first time this past weekend for date night, and wow we were blown away! Such good authentic Italian food! Very cute decor as well, love the old school but fresh vibe they have going on. Greta service, and the owner even stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying ourselves. Blade has one of the best pork chops I've had! Always tender and the wild mushrooms that it comes with are very tasty! Also their signature Truffle pizza is delicious! Hmm, where to start. The food here is excellent, prob the best of the newer restaurants in Oside. Chef definitely knows what they are doing. Especially given the hipster gastro food scene here, it's nice to see some real Italian done well. The prices are what every other "fancy" restaurant in the area should aim for as most other places/gastro pubs are overpriced for the quality. Mussels- came out hot and stayed hot. Texture was perfect, and flavor was good and not overpowering. Very filling portion. And bread was so good. Salmon - holy moly, some of the best tasting salmon. Seared and cooked perfectly, tasted amazing. Pizza- not usually a fan of Italian pizza where the pie is soggy and can't hold the ingredients, hence having to use a fork and knife to eat it. But it was very flavorful and good. Only cons would be the lighting, not the best for ambience. The service wasn't bad, but I could hardly understand what they were saying. Can't fault them for he heavy Italian accent if the food comes out right. Definitely will be back to try the pasta. read more

So impressed.I have been looking forward to the opening of this restaurant for several months and Blade did not disappoint. The vibe was fun and energetic and don't even get me started on the food...so delicious!! We went on opening night and they did not miss a beat! Started out with warm and crispy, complimentary lotus chips that were excellent. We also tried the bison meatballs which were delicious and topped with a beautiful sauce that tasted like it had been deliciously simmering all day. The made from scratch pasta - we had the masala sauce - was melt in your mouth fantastic and the prosciutto pizza was perfectly light and crisp and cooked in Blade's brick pizza oven. We decided to check this place out based on reviews on yelp. Anyone who says this is the best pasta or Italian food has clearly never been to a real Italian restaurant or even Italy. This place was an absolute mess from the service, to the decor. I would never come back or recommend this place to a friend. Atmosphere 2/5 It sucks because the structure of the restaurant and the wood accents make it super cute and rustic. But then they have these pop art style pictures on the wall with such vIbrant colors that it completely clashes with the rest of the design of the interior. It looks like two designers couldn't agree on what style to decorate with. Service 1/5 We were able to be seated quickly, which was nice and the host was polite. But then we waited for about ten minutes without any acknowledgement from any staff member! There was 2 large parties over the size of 10 people, so maybe they were understaffed? Either way, to not be greeted for about ten minutes is a bit ridiculous. Our server tried to make up for it with his "customer service" skills. But his obnoxious personally was honeslty cringe worthy. The staff was more interested in gossiping with each other and joking around, than actually paying attention to their customers. Our server was scares throughout the dinner experience, it was just all around a sad representation of this restaurant. Food 1/5 The food was bad from start to finish. The caprese was nothing special, the meatballs were bland and heavily needed seasoning. The margarita pizza was so soggy and the crust was practically mush. It's been awesome seeing Oceanside change and grow over the past 29 years that I grew up in the area and now come back to visit. And this restaurant is one of those awesome additions to downtown Oceanside! The interior is aesthetically pleasing and very on trend. I love all the little details about the space from the copper light fixtures to the mural photographs on various walls throughout. Now, it's great to be in a beautiful space, but of course we came for the food and it did not disappoint. Everything we had was delicious. The owners of this restaurant are from Italy and their pizza oven is completely authentic. My family ordered quite a few different things and we loved them all. We tried the Tuna Tartar, Calamari, Mussels, Veal, Porkchop, Ala Palla Pizza, and Bomboloni for dessert. Everything was awesome! We especially loved the Ala Palla pizza because we were able to choose 3 different styles of their pizza and have it all on one big pizza. And the Bomboloni dessert was so fun, yummy and great for a big group. Highly recommend this gem of a place If you're in the Oceanside area and love some good and authentic Italian food! read more

I love the decor inside! You can tell they put a lot of thought into it. It flows well. They serve delicious lotus root on each table that are addicting! We had the mussels. A lot were hardly open or not all the way open, so I didn't eat those. They serve local Carlsbad mussels. I'm not a big fan of them. A lot of locals aren't either. They taste like how the brackish lagoon water smells at low tide, if you know what I mean! I'd rather theirs be from clean fresh waters like from PEI or better yet from Fox Island! The water here is too warm and stagnant to yield delicious mussels. I understand them wanting to support local businesses but I feel this is hurting the quality of the dish they desire. I won't order them again. We also had their white pizza. It tasted delicious but the underside was undercooked,soggy and not crisp. Very flimsy. Put the pizza on the floor of the oven, not on the wood board. My Italian Nona taught us that. Maybe it was just an off day for them. They were gracious and brought us a piece of their delicious cheesecake due to the mussels. I will come back and give them another try. They deserve it. read more
