My boyfriend saw a video on social media about this restaurant so we decided to come for breakfast on Friday. It's a half hour ride but we enjoy trying new places so we didn't mind at all making that drive. It's a small restaurant with about five tables and a counter along one wall that seats six. When we walked in we were asked if we'd been there before. When we said no we were given the rundown of how things go: seat yourselves, order at the counter and they bring the food to you. This was a random find, I just needed to find a place near the outlets. There was so many people waiting when we went today (Sun) at noon. Indoor seating was limited but plenty of outdoor- thankfully the sun was out. But the service was great- super nice and they gave free drinks for those who have been waiting a lot. The place was cute and clean. And the food was really tasty- no wonder it's so popular. We even ran into an ex-pro football player there who also played at our Alma mater! I was finally able to come to Blair Mountain Biscuit Company and they did not disappoint!!! It is a small place, so you either take out or in the summer plan to eat outside at the tables. Inside they have 3 tables, but most people tend to take out. The people who all work there are so FRIENDLY. When asked if this was our first time, they told us we can eat in or take out. As soon as we finished ordering, a table emptied and they kindly asked us to wait so they could clean the table. While we were waiting for our food, they brought us their loaded fries to try (on the house). They were loaded all right. The basket was flowing with pepper gravy and two fried eggs. It about filled us up. The coffee was steaming hot - which is so rare. The biscuit sandwiches were piled high. Mine was a fried egg, with cheese and bacon. A nice surprise was that it had two eggs instead of one. It was so big I needed a knife and fork. My husband got an omelette like egg, bacon and biscuit sandwich. My husband and I were running errands and decided to try this place. It did not live up to the hype unfortunately. We tried a chicken biscuit, sausage breakfast biscuit, bacon breakfast biscuit, mushroom scrapper and berry French toast. The mushroom scrapple is a great play on regular scrapple. The chicken was a bit chewy and everything had the same flavor profile. All the breakfast sandwiches come with an herb gravy and herbs in the biscuits. The berry French toast was good. The good - friendly staff, incredible biscuits, house made sausage was tasty (but could be a "courser grind" for texture?) the shabby chic decor is cute, and an impressive array of hot sauce occupies an entire wall of the joint. For the price, the portions are large. You order and pay at the counter, and a server brings the food out to you at your table. The opportunities - we asked the waitress what the place's signature dish is - and she recommended the biscuits with Sausage gravy. The sausage gravy on the biscuits we ordered was lukewarm upon arrival, and had a prevailing herbal flavor reminiscent of dry poultry seasoning. If it was held at that temperature all morning, we could be looking at some foodborne illness as it must be below 135 degrees. 100 at best. It wasn't bad necessarily, as I am certain flavor and taste is subjective... but I am a sausage gravy purist and this, to me tasted like a gravy I would use with chicken and dumplings. The chairs are flimsy plastic and uncomfortable, the tables are flimsy, warped and rock as you cut your food with a fork and knife, causing the drinks on the table to spill. There are only three 4 top tables, and a bar height counter with five or so stools inside. When the weather is nice there is an outdoor porch that can accommodate more seating, and it seemed a lot of people use DoorDash for takeout. I think perhaps next time I would order a biscuit breakfast sandwich and be more pleased. The owners' backstory is a good one. The place has some potential, and should keep working out the kinks. At the very least, upgrade your seating experience inside. read more

I stopped to get lunch and was not disappointed. I ordered a classic chicken biscuit sandwich, red coleslaw, mac and cheese and 2 Yoo-Hoos. The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy, flavorful and delicious. I was initially worried that the biscuit would be too delicate to hold up but it was fine and did not crumble apart as I feared. The biscuit was light, flavorful and perfect with the chicken - I can imagine how heavenly it would be under a blanket of gravy or as a breakfast sandwich. The mac and cheese was hot, creamy and better than most takeaway mac and cheese, the red coleslaw was cool, crisp, creamy and just ever -so slightly sweet; it was a good foil to the flavorful chicken and biscuit - and it would be perfect for the spicy chicken biscuit to cut through the deliciousness. It's only 1.6 miles from work so I WILL be stopping back to work my way through the menu - the menu in-person has more options and there are daily specials as well. Also for vegans, they have vegan scrapple, vegan loaded fries and other options so everyone can get something yummy here to eat. Service was great, friendly, fast and efficient. The biscuit with mushroom scrapple was UNREAL!!! I had never had mushroom scrapple prior to this day and I was so impressed. Every bite was so flavorful. The other biscuit had chicken and gravy which we added an egg to. I expected it to taste differently, it wasn't as good as the first biscuit but the gravy was flavorful and plenty. But this lite meal just didn't sit well with me. The NOT SO GOOD: - The place is miniscule. The indoor dining is almost non existent, and was packed wall to wall anyway. We were forced to eat outside on OLLLLLLD, rickety, dilapidated wooden tables. I'm talking wood top curved from warping in the elements; cardboard under the table to prevent wobble type monstrosities. People sitting around us spilled TWO separate carafes of water because everything is so precariously balanced on these things. - The food is good, not great. One, the biscuit is literally un-eatable with anything other than a fork and knife. I got a breakfast SANDWICH, but the second you touch the biscuit, it just disintegrates. This is an interesting small place in Blackwood. My husband is a biscuit connoisseur so we had to try it. The one drawback is it's cafeteria style, more takeout then seating. The dining area is actually awkward. First come first serve you have to stalk for a table and quickly sit when someone gets up. You order at the counter, and the waitress will bring it to you. We definitely wanted to try the biscuit with just jam. We also tried the chicken sandwich and the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were large and fluffy. We like the gravy, but not love the gravy. It definitely could've used a little bit of salt which is surprising because usually biscuits and gravy is salty. The food arrived at the table, hot and fresh. There was quite a bit of takeout orders waiting, and people kept coming in and out in and out so that sort of tells you must be a good spot. I would definitely return my only wish is that there were more seating, and it was more organized. This might not be a spot you would choose. What a great little spot! I brought my grandkids for breakfast, while on spring break. The staff greeted us warmly, explained their process and made sure we had no questions. We placed our order and settled at a table to await our breakfast. The kids each got the French toast with berry compote on the side. They aren't picky eaters, but they often don't finish food. They both ate every bite! My grandson loved the berry compote. His sister liked it also but her brother was not open to share. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy. That is a hearty breakfast. I was really hungry but could not finish the plate. The taste was not as plain as typical sausage gravy. It was quite tasty. I look forward to visiting again and trying more menu items. read more

My favorite breakfast food is biscuits & gravy so I was SUPER excited to try Blair Mountain Biscuits. I was pretty underwhelmed. The gravy definitely has sausage in it, but the sausage is rather flavorless and honestly it would probably taste the same without any sausage in it at all. The gravy tasted more sweet than savory and had a lot of herbs in it--lots of flavor for sure, but not sausage flavor. Neither my husband or I liked it and I would definitely not order it again. My husband got a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. He said it was fine, but it was not able to be consumed as a sandwich--he had to eat it with a knife and fork. It would have been better if it was just a breakfast platter with a biscuit on the side. I tried part of his biscuit without any toppings and it was perfectly cooked and very moist, but didn't really taste like anything. He said he thought it was similar to a Red Lobster biscuit, but less tasty. The only option other than cheddar biscuit is a vegan biscuit. We both had a cold brew coffee and it didn't really taste like coffee--it seemed watered down. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience and I can't see myself going back. read more

Came on a Sunday and MAYVE we would've had a better experience on a weekday. Parking lot was a good size, restaurant itself is tiny. Very limited seating inside and outside had tables (that weren't in the best condition). It was packed, noisy and chaotic- system to get seated was non-existent. There's no hostess, but you're supposed to know to just order at the counter when you come in and then find your own table. The girl taking the order was very friendly. The only positive part of this experience! Luckily we found a table before we got our food. The bad part was that we were offered it by the family sitting there, so we sat before the table was cleaned. The waitresses would smile & weren't mean, but they weren't friendly & were all terrible at their jobs-- not attentive at all. Seemed like there were enough of them, but not one realized we just sat down and the table was still dirty with empty plates obviously from a different family prior. We asked them to grab the plates, but we were left to clean off the table ourselves and they left the half empty water glasses that weren't ours. When they took the plates, they didn't even bring us new silverware. When we got our food, we then managed to flag someone down for silverware. We mentioned we wanted the previous guests glasses removed and asked for new water... they took them but never came back with our waters. Again, Terrible service. Food was basic. Honestly, it didn't taste good and we're not picky eaters so we finished it since we were hungry. I already felt uncomfortable in a small, crowded place, I was hoping to be cheered up by delicious breakfast - sadly, I was disappointed. My husband eventually got up to ask a waitress for water. I'm not kidding when I say no waitress checks on you- very poor, inattentive service. We finally got water, which was grossly lukewarm and no ice in the glasses. Looking around, other tables did have cold water (condensation visible on the glass). It was a horrible experience from start to finish.
