This was perhaps the WORST frozen entree/meal I have ever tried. It was flavorless, it was dry, it has no redeeming value. I tried adding liquid, I tried adding fat (as in BUTTER), and no help. Blake's Shepherds Pie!!! The pro's and cons. I give them credit for some things. It's made from Beef raised without antibiotics,all natural ingredients, gluten free.However to me it is very small. Also this is made with corn, generally as I recall it was made with peas. I think there's actually more food content in various pot pies. Shepherds Pie originated somewhere between England, Ireland and Scotland a few hundred years ago. There are a few different versions of it. Some is made with lamb, some beef,and I've also heard pork. My family originated in England. The Shepherds Pie I had through the years was made with beef, peas and mashed potatoes on top. Simmer the beef, then warm the peas in hot water slightly, whipped mash potatoes on top, then bake. It's one of my all time favorite dishes. I've been known to get the iron skillet out once and awhile and put on a kitchen performance, LOL. Blake's was tasty, but small, non-filling. read more

3/24/20 I have had Shepard's pie on my mind for three weeks now. Ever since the idea of one of my characters loving the pies, I have been craving it. Now that I have finished one of Blake's Shepard's Pie, I can say it was good, but not the best. Frozen is never as good as having it at an Irish Pub. The best one I have eaten was at the Irish Inn.(Bethesda Maryland Glen Echo) Still, for the way I was feeling, Blake's pie hit the spot. I am only sorry it did not last very long. A bigger pie would have been nice, but I will control my desire for more. There are three more pies and I will have to make them last until the end of Friday. Meatloaf was very bland, and a little tough, nothing like homestyle. However I will try a of their other meals out of curiosity. read more

This is one of the BEST Chicken Pot-Pie I have ever had! Where have these baking Gods been all my life? Don't get me wrong, now I can make a good chicken pot-pie. But after having Blake's I might not ever need to make another one. There I was at the store... shopping hungry, when I was hit with a comfort food craving. After the hellish day that I endured, I already knew I wasn't about to go home and chef it up! So naturally I went searching the frozen food section to find a chicken pot-pie to throw in the oven when I got home. The regulars (Swanson, Callender & Banquet) were there in bulk and I just looked right past them when I spotted Blake's. Now I don't know if it was their box, my hope for a meal-win or me just not wanting to buy one of "the regulars" then have to add a bunch of spices to it to make it taste better. So I buy the Blake's pie and figure "what the heck...If it tastes like a jail house kitchen creation I'm sure the garbage can won't reject it". Obviously my expectations weren't too high. When I say the smell of this pie took over my house in the best way, I mean it! I began to look around for one of my Grandmother's because there was no way a frozen pie could smell that good! Boy...was I wrong. Blake's Chicken Pot-Pie has the most flaky crust and the filling is so flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised by how great this pie was. Super high quality (and a bit pricey) frozen meals like Mac 'n cheese (alone or with chicken or with veggies) and flaky caloric pot pies. I buy the Mac 'n cheese at Whole foods and take it to work for lunch. So delicious - but as I said - expensive compared to other brands (but it is made with all good stuff!). Update: They have Blake's on SALE at Whole Foods during July 2011 - so rush over there and try the Mac 'n Cheese with Chicken & Brocolli - it's Soooooo delicious! YUM! read more

I purchased a Turkey Shepherds Pie at Publix. I didn't mind paying a premium price because I eat heat and eats a lot for my lunch at work and enjoy decent food. If I could give this meal no stars I would. It was awful! It was very bland and the turkey (that looked like ground beef) was crunchy as were several of the peas. The directions said to cook it between 5 and 6 minutes in the microwave. I only cooked 5 minutes so it wasn't a matter of being over cooked and burnt. I will never purchase this product again. The Shepherd's Pie is not worth the cost of $5.plus. It is dry and mostly potatoes. The beef has no sauce and is very dry and not much of it. Love this company! It's also great that most of the ingredients they use aren't crap! The only thing that really is the soybean oil, but oh well. Oh also the palm oil they use is sustainable. Not only is their food amazing, yet they accepted & honored MY mistake (I bought a not so great brand cleverly located nearby in the frozen food section at WholeFoods market, using the exact dye markers on the label). We just discovered their chicken pot pie and shepherd's pie and REALLY love them. I hate cooking so am thrilled to find REALLY good frozen food. The chicken pot pie has a great top crust, flaky but just deliciously slightly crunchy around the edge, and no bottom crust, which means there is a LOT of good food in there--the veggies look and taste fresh, and the size of the chicken pieces will make your eyes bug out! I couldn't believe it. There's even enough chicken in it that we can share with our cats and no one feels deprived!! Great balance between veggies, chicken, gravy, and crust. We are going to be eating this a lot, I'm sure. It's even better than the homemade chicken pot pie I used to make many years ago. We also like the shepherd's pie. I discovered Blake's a month or so ago, and I've really become a huge fan. I've tried everything offered at my local Publix, and I just can't believe how delicious these meals are. The seasonings are perfect...none of that 'off-taste' that frozen meals usually have. The ground beef in the Shepherd's Pie is high quality and plentiful. The chicken in the Marsala and the Dumplings and the PotPie has a fresh and 'real' texture. The vegetables taste just-picked. Amazing! I purchased your company's mac and cheese today. Not a big fan at all. The sauce was watery, bitter and would not cling to the pasta no matter how much I stirred it. Did you start the sauce with a base (bechamel) or did you just make a milk slurry and add cheese. Anyway, the dish was unappealing and extremely overpriced for what you got. I love the portions, for being a single person, but what I love the most is that it is all natural. I expect to pay more for natural, so that is not a problem. Regarding Blake's 8 oz. Chicken Pot Pie, the flavor was delicious and the quality of ingredients seemed high. However, there was almost nothing in the pot pie...certainly not enough for a light eater's lunch. There was less than 1 ounce of chicken, 25 peas, less than 1 small red potato (3 pieces, each one appearing to be 1/4 of a tiny potato), less than the equivalent of 1 baby carrot. I called the company and was told that ingredients are weighed during assembly and that there should be 1.6 ounces of chicken. I don't know how much of the other ingredients there was to be, but this pot pie would just about serve a small pre-school aged child. read more
