Oh Blake's cafe how I loved thee! Before I went vegan and gluten free many years back I used to eat here ALL the time. I always got the chicken fried chicken and mashed tators.. and it was so good! Was perfect in every way. Also I loved the salad and always added egg with their ranch. Their ranch alone always made me happy. Plus they gave you a loaf of bread before your meal and it even came with real butter. Now is this place healthy? No .. not at all.. But if you want Texas-get me fat-food.. then this is the place for you. It's old school country food and always has enough old people in here that you know its good lol.. They did get packed at night and so parking could be tricky. But my husband and I could eat here both w/ teas for less than 20.00 bucks. The BEST Chicken Fried Steak I have EVER had!! It was paired with their mashed potatoes and friend zucchini. First time ever trying friend zucchini and it was so delicious. The salad and homeade ranch was awesome along with the complimentary bread. I will definitely be back and will be craving that CFS till I return. read more

Food was great and staff is attentive. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is cause we waited for an hour for food. The staff explained that it was due to a party of 35 people who ordered before us. I understand but at the same time a business should be able to manage the situation so no customer has to wait that long. The food is great! Kids loved the burgers and onion rings. We got hungry on our way home to San Antonio from Houston and was perusing yelp for a good place to eat off of I-10, decided to take a chance driving into McQueeney to eat here. Very happy we did. We both got the chicken fried steak, my fiancé the 10oz (12.99)with green beans and rice, me the 8oz(10.99) with okra and Squash. OMG, when the waitress brought the food my jaw dropped. HUGE portions of everything! Not overly seasoned, fresh and very tasty. Some of the chicken fried steak batter was a little salty but it was still good. The whole staff was friendly and warm as well. I didn't find the chicken fried steak to be that good. Was pretty chewy. Wife tried chicken fried and felt about the same.

I ordered two chicken fried chicken plates; one with mashed potatoes and macaroni & cheese; the other had mashed potatoes and a salad. Nothing was wrong with the order. I am a picky eater and I like my food in a certain way, but Blake's cafe absolutely nailed it! The staff were really nice and served my meal very quick. Visited here with friends - it was the first time for me but they had been there many times. I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fresh green beans. Everything was excellent! We had a party of 31 people and our food was delivered promptly and hot! Service was excellent as well. Stopped in at this place for lunch on our way back to Houston. Found it on Yelp luckily because it's a few miles off I-10. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, casual and comfortable. The waitstaff and other customers were very friendly. I had the blackened Catfish and my husband had the blackjack burger. They were both good! Came in tonight for dinner while doing an overnight getaway to Seguin. We were greeted warmly and seated right away. Started out with potato skins and iced tea. Potato skins were very good. We both ordered the prime rib with loaded baked potato. Hubby had salad and I ordered side of fried okra. Meals came out quickly and the prime rib was perfect!! Not over seasoned and the au jus was excellent! Potatoes were perfect and so was the salad and okra. Paired all that with their fresh made brown bread and you are in for an excellent meal. Our waiter, Ben, was very nice and took great care of us while we were there. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of Blake's and told us the original building was a post office back in the 1800's then became a restaurant around 1998. We had plenty of leftovers and brought back the coconut layer cake which looks yummy but we will devour later LOL! This is a great cafe; friendly service and excellent food!! Diverse food selection is key to which my family always chooses something different they prefer- Prime Rib, Trout, Chicken Ranch Salad, Liver & Onions, Fried Mushrooms & Fried Pickles. We ate at Blake's Cafe tonight for the first and only time. I ordered a steak cooked medium. I got a steak that was past well done and bone dry eventhough the steak flag said medium. It was inedible. The potatoes were COLD. The fried okra was edible but nothing to write home about. I did not eat the meal and I learned a long time ago not to sent food back or ask for a substitute. This was the worst food I have experienced in a long time. I give it a one star rating because that is the minimum allowed. read more

I went here for lunch one day because I've always seen a crowd there as I've driven by. WOW. I don't know why people go there. When I first walked in I felt like I was in a flea market or a consignment shop. Ugh! It was dark and musty. Fake, dusty plants were hanging from the ceiling. The floor was filthy. BUT...I was hoping that the food was better than the decor. I ordered the daily special. It was fried cod and it came with a side of french fries and cole slaw. First of all, it was frozen fish, not fresh. It had WAAY too much batter on it. (Probably to cover up the nasty taste of the fish.) The fries were frozen, not fresh. The cole slaw was runny and had absolutely no taste whatsoever. I also ordered unsweet tea. BLAH!! It was cloudy and it looked like that it had been made either the night before or the week before. I was truly disappointed. But what puzzled me the most was how they're staying in business. Either the people that go there have never had REAL food before, or every customer there is a first-time customer. I don't know. I know I will NEVER go back, unless by some miracle I see them on Restaurant Impossible and they get straightened out. I strongly DO NOT recommend this place.
