Blank Slate always hits, no matter which location you visit! I typically go to the Ann Arbor one but recently checked out the one in Brighton. The flavors and quality are consistent between the two stores. All my favorite flavors were at the Brighton location too - blueberry muffin, butter pecan, and Vietnamese cinnamon! The staff are also friendly and efficient across locations. They are quick to move long lines along fast while providing great customer service. There is a casual ambiance and seating inside though most folks seem to take their ice cream to enjoy downtown near the Mill Pond or outside seating. Will defs be back! read more

Such a great location for a blank slate, as it is conveniently located in downtown Brighton. The ice cream here is to die for- I ordered the lavender lemon flavor and it is superb! I was so excited that this place was open during the winter. Good move! We came here after dinner on the coldest January evening and the place was packed. I wanted to try their snowball ice cream, inspired by the hostess snowball and I also had chocolate cherry covered in a semi-sweet fudge topping in their waffle cone bowl. It was so good. They let me know they just won at an ice cream convention for their fluffer nutter flavor which my husband got this time. It is so good, I have had that one several times. They also sold hot cocoa either plain or with toppings, wish the kids were here for that. While staying in Brighton, MI I found this great little ice cream place in downtown. Sadly, I found it on our last night and didn't get to visit there more. Right in downtown in an old storefront, the place has been converted to a modern yet cozy vibe with an easy to find queue and a few places to sit to enjoy your chosen treat. This place offers some flavors and twists that you didn't know you needed. Balsamic Strawberry, Basil (served with lemon olive oil) Lemon Lavender, Bourbon Ball and the list goes on. The friendly staff offered me samples which I gladly took as I could not choose without them. I was getting a quick to-go cup (I went with the Basil) otherwise I would have gotten their 4 flavor flight option in order to try as many as possible. So excited to see a creamery open up in Brighton. There are a lot of different types of businesses the downtown could use and this is one of them! I've been here twice. I've tried the Roasted Butter Pecan and the Peanut Butter Cone Crackle. Both were bursting with flavor. I personally like the Roasted Butter Pecan better. Here is why I didn't give it a 5 star. Their ice cream is full of flavor, but not as creamy as ice cream should be. I originally lived in Madison Heights so I'm comparing this ice cream to Treat Dreams and Rays. Others may not notice that the ice cream at Blank Slates is lacking creaminess unless they've been to other creameries that make their own ice cream. The other reason is the setup. I do believe they are trying to do the best they can during COVID 19, but it is tricky to distance. Some patrons think because they are outside that they don't need a mask. Their line splits the sidewalk so while we wait in line, there is no 6 feet from people walking by and like I mentioned, there tends to be a lack of masks. I am definitely looking forward to trying to Balsamic Strawberry, Lemon Bar, and a number of other flavors! read more

I've been a long-time customer of the original Blank Slate, so I had to try the Brighton location as we were driving by today. The two gals were incredibly sweet and patient as I conducted an excessively detailed read through the menu and picked out pints (yes, you can order pints) to take home. We picked out our absolute favorites; Chai, Lavender Lemon Honey, and Garden Mint. Then I wanted to try something new. Blank Slate has flavors that are there for a short period of time and its fun to try them while they last! So, I tried Apple Cinnamon Crisp, which really let me down! I was expecting the taste of roasted apples and gooey cinnamon with crunchy oats, but I didn't taste any apple. There was a little cinnamon in the clumps, but the ice cream it was in was basically a really, really rich vanilla. Blank Slate -- you can do much better! Perhaps that's an ice cream for people who don't like flavor, but I've come to know Blank Slate for it's bold and nostalgic flavors! Now, their Lavender transports you to the foothills of the Alps. The Mint makes you feel like it's the middle of a Michigan Summer in one of the St.John mint fields! The Chia makes you want to curl up next to a fireside with your favorite book. First time visiting the Brighton location! There is a small public parking lot across the street and street parking (free). We were the only customers there so we didn't feel pressure to rush and pick our flavors. You can sample the different flavors so we had fun with that! Waffle cones are freshly made so that's a no brainer! We chose coconut key lime pie, pina colada sorbet, coffee toffee, and vanilla caramel blondie. Everything was delicious! The staff was so nice and patient! We can't wait to go back! It was chilly outside so we ate inside, however there is seating outside too! Cute little ice cream shop with high quality options with a build your own model for sundaes. The setup for covid is pretty nice, you order from one window and then they have a separate pickup window on the side of the building near their benches. The ice cream was good but you are definitely paying a premium for it. The portions were reasonable but it's more expensive than any other ice cream place I've been to. I've never had ice cream with such strong flavor! This isn't your ordinary ice cream shop. They have so many interesting flavors and combinations. I had a scoop of salty caramel and a scoop of pistachio and they were amazing. Nothing artificial about it! My husband got the garden mint chip as mint chocolate chip is his usual go to. None impressed me, all were very weak in flavor. Consistency was great, but my tongue was left UNSATISFIED. Maybe I missed some diamonds in the rough when I went, but the waffle cone was pretty tasty! Despite the shortcomings of what they sell, the people working the counter were incredibly kind, all smiles and polite attitudes. Opening a new location in the middle of a pandemic is brave. This place has it down pat! I visited the new Brighton location four days after they opened and was super impressed. I love the Ann Arbor location and was so excited to learn they opened another location 10 mins from my house. The location is right on Grand River, which makes parking easy. They have a clear line set up with markers for social distancing (something other local ice cream places should try). They have contactless ordering and pickup which is hassle free. It was a great safe experience. I was impressed with the whole setup and extra precautions they are taking to keep everyone safe. This is something this area has not been good at, so I'm glad to see they brought their Ann Arbor practices this way. read more
