This restaurant was recommended to us by two sources, including the motel we were staying at. It is right on the water, and has a large indoor and outdoor area. It was Saturday night and they had a great band playing outside. We ate outside and enjoyed the band. I ordered the Haddock special with carrots and mashed potatoes as a side. It was $25. I really enjoyed the dish, very delicious. My friend enjoyed her salad dish also. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the service. We had a big group of 10 and the server was pretty nervous and seemed new but did a pretty good job considering. I got the lazy lobster and the lobster was so tender and delicious. I wish there had been more lobster (I always wish this) but what can you do. I also got a sun gria as my drink and it was huge and refreshing. Def a great price for the drink! I didn't think the clam chowder was anything to write home about but did enjoy the Caesar salad. If you like less dressing, this one isn't for you! Bad from start to end. Waited 20 minutes for the server to ask us what we wanted to drink, by that time we already knew what we wanted to eat we order and waited 30 minutes for our food when i received my meal it was missing the lobster, shrimps and scallops, waited another 30 minutes for them to correct my meal, by the time meal was 55 dollars not worth it, very small pieces of lobster and burn shrimp, no discounts paid full price, I can see this place being perfect for tourists who are here for the seafood but honestly I rather dine out at another restaurant where you get more for your buck! read more

Great place right on the water. The staff was super friendly and always had a positive attitude. The menu is great plenty to choose from. My 3 weeks in Bangor plus other trips in the past I have enjoyed this place for lunch and dinner. It is a casual laid back place. Great to get a group together or a nice date night. We've been here a number of times and we never complain! High tide is our go to for lobster food but we have always enjoyed the various soups. Shout out to my favorite dish- the Lobster Mac and Cheese (drool). It's always a hearty portion with a good amount of lobster in the tasty mac and cheese. My ultimate comfort food in the cold Maine winters when I want to splurge. It's worth it! Came once for brunch which was delicious but don't think they offer that anymore :( read more

The restaurant was fairly empty when I went around 5 PM which probably wasn't a good sign. It's part of a large building that also houses a dentist so that was a little bit unusual although the ambience looked really nice. At this point, you seat yourself, and there was a lot of empty tables so I sat in the back. It took a while for a waitress to greet me, but she was friendly. I had the lobster roll, clam chowder, and bacon wrapped scallops. It seems like most of the patrons were elderly, but it could've been the time of day. The lobster roll had mushy bread and wasn't very well toasted. None of the food tasted very fresh, which is why it probably came out so quickly. There wasn't much lobster in the roll, and the lettuce accompany was a little bland. The coleslaw seemed a little water down. The sweet potato fries were good, but not great. Very crispy however! The clam chowder was good, but also seemed like it was previously canned. The bacon was very dry although the scallops were super hot, indicative of a microwave. They had poured a maple syrup across the bacon, wrapped scallops, which tasted cheap. Walked in and was super excited as we have been here before. Last time we were in Maine. when I discovered this place while visiting it was AMAZING the entire restaurant was packed. Fast forward to this time, we drive 2hours for Portland to Bangor just to eat here because last time it was amazing. And left such an impression on us. I walked in and was quit empty, there was a sign at the front that said "please sit yourself" I took the menus and walked me and my friend over the the table and ask him if it was okay (since I was being a host). A young lady came over and took our orders she wasn't very pleasant I had to ask her her name. She took our orders I order the wine and my friend ordered ginger ale which wasn't great so we sent it back and order coke. We realize it was Pepsi not coke at no point did she say we don't have coke we have Pepsi or is Pepsi okay? We asked about happy hour since we made it in time. She didn't know the prices of items said they were just going to be a bit cheaper. So we ordered the wings since she said it was $1 per wing later found out she charged us full price I was in such a rush to get out of there I didn't even notice it. My friend loved the lobster bisque last time that's why took the initiative of driving here, this time it was sour, seemed old in my friends opinion as I don't really care for lobster bisque. While in town for vacation, hubby and I decided on High Tide for dinner through Yelp. They were busy but we were able to get in. They asked if we wanted to eat out in the outside enclosed area. We hesitated but they said they just put the a/c on and it was cooling down. We decided to eat outside, but we regret it. It was pretty warm the whole time. Our food was really good. Our little one had the hot dog with fries. I opted for the broiled High Tide platter and hubby ordered the fried High Tide platter. Mine consisted of lobster, shrimp, haddock, and scallops. The food was OK, venue is OK. Had a party of 5, we are not high maintenance folks. My wife ordered Rosé, she got sparkling Rosé instead. It was not what she ordered and sent it back but was still charged. We asked to have it removed and got an unfriendly response from the waitress. The restaurant was very busy and the service was extremely slow. After ordering drinks, it took quite a long time to get them. Luke took our order. Several people ordered prime rib from the specials menu. He came back several minutes later to tell us they were out of it. We asked what the vegetable of the day was and were told carrots - fine. Returned to this restaurant this year after a nice experience last year. The staff was very friendly, didn't rush me. The view is phenomenal. I had the best lobster bisque I've ever had, and I've had plenty in my life. It had big chunks of lobster in it, and the soup flavor was amazing. They were a bit off. Lots of garlic and salt to cover it. Cooked too long. Next, we had the seafood stuffed haddock. The fish was good. The stuffing wasn't great. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The soggy zucchini was not. The wine by the glass was $6.00 each since it was happy hour. The staff who seated us was unsure about specials, so they got someone else to serve us. Nice folks, but I don't want to sit with an empty glass for too long, or have dirty dishes piling up on my table. I had to ask for water. I find this unusual. First stop in Maine for lunch. Quaint place on the river with some pretty amazing views. Beautiful patio and a wonderful stop in Bangor. Our server was great. It's not always easy to locate allergy friendly restaurants. Two members of our party had allergies. We visited on a very busy Saturday night. We asked the server for some help with the allergies. The manager spoke with us briefly, she instructed the server to discuss with the chef. The chef indicated that there were some things we could order that would be fine. They use CANOLA here instead of SOY so fries were on the menu. We received great service, and we enjoyed a couple of steaks, and the Twin Lobster Tail dinner is a very good value. The fried haddock is excellent. We have visited High Tide a half dozen times, and never been disappointed. Went to Maine in hopes of satisfying and having a good ol piece of Maine Lobster while there. Went to High tide by a referral. Ordered the lazy 1lb 4oz lobster for $36 a coworker ordered regular lobster for $33 which only meant she had to crack it. I received 4 ounces in a tiny little ramekin with cold fries and maybe 1 ounce of coleslaw.. I can't tell you enough how absolutely disappointed I was. My entire group was very disappointed in general. We waited a long time as well. We did ask for the manager and a guy named Jon showed up. He could care less that my 4 ounces compared to the regular lobster that had to be cracked in a little work put into it produced double the meat. He tried telling us that this time of season the shell is soft and that you usually get about 4 ounces. He had no wiggle room to help in anyway nor did he want to. I left hungry even though I spent $50 because I still tipped the waiter. They need to advertise that a 1 lbs. 4 oz. lobster yields 4 ounces of actual lobster. Can't tell you how absolutely disappointed I was. Will never come back. Be weary and ask questions. In response to John: I personally did not ask for my meal for Free my friend did seeing how disappointed I was in the lobster. I ever said "No I would pay" I did not eat anything else on that plate had you really taken notice of my plate. The fries were cold and the plate was as it was delivered when it was cleared. The slaw was also left full. I paid in full and like I said you and your waiter should say to every single person that asks about the one pound 4 oz lobster yields only 4 ounces. I paid more to not have to crack it. Thinking maybe you would deliver it on the shell maybe even presenting it a lot better than a ramekin with a few pieces of lobster with cold fries! Do a better job in your managerial skills, position and demeanor to good paying customers that just wanted to share in a cross country visit to your restaurant. High Tide is one of my favorite restaurants. You get to sit along side the Brewer Riverwalk for ambiance. I prefer sitting in the bar if not out on the deck. They offer a wide variety of food. Burgers. Excellent fried clams. Stuff mushrooms. Loaded potato skins are a favorite. Flatbread pizzas. Service is excellent! read more

We were quoted a 40 min wait, so we opted to sit inside, and the hostess kindly seated us at a booth where we could admire the view from the inside. My friend and I tried the drink of the week: Milagro Sunset (tequila, grenadine, oj). It was a pretty drink as well as pretty strong (!) It took awhile for our server to ask us if we were ready to order our food. I got the fish and chips as it was recommended by other reviewers, and my friend got the fried shrimp and chips. The french fries were really good, and the fish was okay. I tried my friend's baby shrimp -- boy they weren't kidding about baby shrimp. I do not recommend this at all. Nice place on the waterfront. Spacious, good parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Busy bar, with sizeable and lively crowd. Good restaurant crowd as well. Good prices and variety of choices. Less good was the communication between the server and kitchen staff or the non-compliance or understanding of the kitchen staff to my requests for no oil, butter or grease added to the grilled swordfish, spinach, zucchini or baked potato. What I got was the total opposite. Everything was swimming in oil! The server said, "I asked them to go easy on the oil." That's not what I asked of the server when ordering, I asked for no oil, not easy oil. Regardless, the kitchen staff seems to have not even honored the "easy oil" request of the server. I dabbed off the oil off the fish and rejected the other items. I asked the veggies not be cooked at all, I'm okay with that, and the baked potato just baked, not cut open at all. I also asked when ordering for a lemon and some seafood seasoning of some sort on the side. I had to ask twice more for them while the dabbed off fish got cold from the air conditioning and time it sat on my plate waiting for the lemon and seasoning. I also had to ask for a new napkin after the server saw me use it to dab off the fish and he took it but didn't think to replace it with another napkin, causing me to use the tiny napkin under the drink and in view of the server. When I finally got the lemon and seasoning after specifically requesting them again, I enjoyed the mostly cold fish as I didn't want to ask it be reheated as it would dry out more. Then, the potato came out as ordered but the spinach, zucchini and tomatoes came out sautéed instead of uncooked as requested. But at least it was sautéed in water, not oil. My other half had a lobster roll and enjoyed it with the minimal butter she requested. I also had French onion soup minus the bread and cheese as requested. It was bland and lukewarm, possibly due to it not being heated more during what is traditionally the cheese melting process. Overall, I recommend this place and you will likely enjoy it if you don't have any dietary restrictions or health minded requests. This would have been a five star review but two stars were lost for the server's poor communication with the kitchen staff and/or the kitchen staff's failure to understand or honor the request. Poor teamwork. I'm miffed for having to have cold swordfish, lukewarm soup and sautéed instead of uncooked vegetables. read more
