We were solicited at one of the big home improvement stores and signed up for an introductory $29.95 spring HVAC "tune up". The company they dispatched inspected our 8 year old Trane HVAC unit and sent another rep to tell us that components were failing and deceptively (allthough quite nicely) pressured us to buy a new system for $12,000 before the summer heat started, when units and service staff were not as quickly available. The unit was working fine, so we decided to get a second opinion. We called Blaze and Ben Steffey came out the next day and inspected our unit and disagreed that it needed replacing. He advised to monitor it seasonally and signed us up for the $25 per mo. service plan that also covers inspection of our electrical and plumbing systems, so we didn't even need to pay the $99 service call. We appreciated his honesty and felt that we "dodged a bullet" of unnecessarly having to replace our system. Ben and Blaze have earned our trust, and we will call on them for our HVAC, plumbing and electrical needs in the future. We consider it a plus that Blaze is veteran owned and that they begin their business meetings with prayer. read more

Blaze bought out a service that installed my water heater. The original company, Schwarz, did a decent job of installing my water heater. However, there was a gas leak in the water heater (not covered by the warranty) so I called them to repair it - the regulator. I paid them but Blaze is incapable of doing accounting. I needed them to acknowledge my payment so that my insurance would reimburse me. They disappeared and do not respond to my emails and phone calls. I would not do any more business with them. If I had read their reviews before asking them to repair my water heater, I would have looked for another company. read more

Blaze Plumbing is completely unprofessional. We had a service contract with them, and Blaze came out to inspect our plumbing. They said we needed a new water heater. We agreed to do it and spent over $6,000. They told my wife that she had two options for the drain line one was to do it the correct way and drain the water outside... The other was a half-baked option of draining the water IN THE GARAGE... they lead my wife to take the latter because it would have been less invasive. He also said that we did not have a water shut-off valve for our cold water... And that our chlorine levels were too high... But we luckily held off on those two issues to get a 2nd opinion. After seeing this and hearing when I got home, I was suspicious and we initially asked them to come back out and fix the issue. They refused and said it would cost another $1000 So before doing that we had Michael And Sons (another plumber) come out to inspect their work and the other "issues" the plumber said we had. 1. The water heater installation was not up to code and the acidic water should not be dumped into the garage. The pitch and materials were also not correct. 2. The shut-off valve that they said was "for hot water" ... was actually for both water lines and the plumber demonstrated this. The Blaze plumber just made assumptions and tried to charge us an additional $1,000 to put in a new valve that we didn't need 3. The chlorine levels were NOT too high for our area... they are not at any registered EPA code... and the Michael And Sons plumber said that even if they were to install one of these filter systems... the level would likely not go down any further. Blaze tried to charge us $2,000 to fix this problem. I called Blaze to speak to a manager... I simply requested that they cover the repair costs for the other plumber to repair the patchy work that they did (which should have been included with the installation already) With the Water Heater he said that the technician gave us the two options... but the technician also led my wife to believe it was acceptable to do the easier option that was not up to code. A licensed plumber should not be recommending services not up to code. He had absolutely nothing to say about the valve and the attempt to squeeze $1,000 out of us. And with the chlorine - he simply said "Well do you always believe what the government says?". I questioned this and said "How many people are dying from chlorine in Raleigh" and instead of basing off any actual fact he simply said, "more then you think". After the manager gave me attitude and was dismissive I asked for HIS supervisor. The manager refused and I told them that we would be pursuing legal action if his supervisor does not call promptly. He then called me a terrorist... and said that they would report this to their lawyers. FOR WANTING A RESOLUTION ON A SHOTTY WORK THAT IS NOT UP TO CODE!? On their website they said "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed"... instead they called me a terrorist. Ridiculous and completely unprofessional. Now I'm left with a nearly $1,500 bill to fix their mess. They got 1/2 star because they were at least on time. & 1/2 star because I did seem that most of the technicians knew what they were doing. I have paid the yearly fee with the understanding that they could work on my Generac Generator. After waiting weeks for the tech to show up it turns out no they can't actually do anything about my generator issue. So I've spent $259.36 for a service they cannot provide. Then the other techs that they insisted had to come out for other things gave me a rather insistent upsell totaling $15,620.95. I felt bad for the techs being forced into sales position instead of what they are trained to do. In the end I called another company to fix the generator costing additional $555 read more

Blaze acquired Comfort Master, the company that originally installed my HVAC unit 8 years ago. So, I hired them for an annual inspection. They told me the heat exchange unit was cracked and needed to be replaced. The part was still under warranty. They quoted me a price of $2,600 for the labor. I asked how long the job would take and the tech said 3-5 hours. That is $650/hour! I told them I would get someone else to look at it. I then said I needed a thermostat installed and I had the item. They quoted me $500 for a 15 minute job to hook it up. These prices were absolutely crazy to me. The second company I brought in agreed the heat exchanger was cracked and said it was probably due to improper installation. Before he left, the tech told me about a plan for $349/year for an annual inspection of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. I agreed to buy that, as that was a good deal versus what you would normally pay for all 3 separately. A few weeks later they sent a tech over for the electrical inspection. I started getting concerned after he told me 4 times how frugal he was personally. I was right. He gave me a list of things that needed fixing totaling over $10,000. I then contacted my regular electrician and gave him the list. He recommended only 2 items on it costing under $500. Be very wary of Blaze, they gouge and do unnecessary work. read more

Blaze bought Comfort Master. They did honor our existing agreement and showed up for what we thought was the normal maintenance on our hvac. I don't think the hvac was even looked at. Just went straight to the hot water heater and tried to sale us a new one. We did replace it with our plumber and I'll get my electrician to perform any electrical work. I'll unfortunately be searching for a hvac company for future service. read more

have an 11 year old Trane HVAC unit that recently broke down. I called the company that had originally installed it (it turned out to have been acquired by another company) and they sent a repairman out. After examining it he had me come outside to look at what he found. He had pulled various parts out and showed me what he said were major problems with the fans, condenser, heat exchanger, and inducer motor. He then said by the time I paid for repairing each part it would come close to the cost of a new system. He said he was authorized to present me with several options on a new system. I took his quotes and told him I would think about it. He charged me *241.00* for this attempted upsell AND FIXED NOTHING. First thing I noticed was the prices. They seemed quite high ranging from 13K for the basic SEER 17 model to 18K for the "premium" model. The brand was Armstrong which I had not heard of before. I went to Duke Energy's website which has a nice cost estimator for this zip code. All his prices were 3-4K higher than what Duke said. Struggling with the idea that my 11 year old system was basically junk I looked up several local companies mentioned on here and Yelp. Shawn Rich stood out for being honest and reasonably priced. I called him & he was here a few hours later. To make the story short all I needed was a new inducer motor which cost me $750. Also when I told Shawn what the quoted prices were from the other guy he cringed and said a new system shouldn't be anywhere near those prices. I called Blaze to see if I could get some of the money back. A woman told me a manager would call me back. Never happened. So this is actually policy at Blaze, not an anomaly. I strongly suggest everyone avoid this company. read more

I miss Comfort Master. They were bought by Blaze; Blaze is a huge disappointment. Most recently, I called Blaze to help with a sewer issue. It was urgent and they did arrive the next morning, which we are grateful for. Upon assessing the sewer/ plumbing concern I was told the expansion tank was broken and needed to be replaced. Up to that point we had no issues with noise from the pipes or water pressure concerns. I trusted the serviceman and agreed to a new expansion tank. A $1000.00 plus charge for a new one. The sewer issue was a bigger problem which thankfully was resolved. After 3 attempts to speak with the plumbing supervisor he called today. I explained that we didn't appreciate having to purchase new expansion tank as the technician didn't even assess the one we had. And since it was changed our water pressure is much lower. Luis U, the plumbing supervisor, explained that expansion tanks have nothing to do with water pressure. He refused to acknowledge that I did not witness the technician examining the old one, or that now we have low water pressure. Previously we had Blaze come to assess our HVAC; one of those packages where they come every so often to make sure it's running efficiently. On this last occasion we were told our dehumidifier was in really sad shape and needed repair or replacement. What the technician missed was we have never used the dehumidifier, it isn't even connected to our HVAC system. Seems Blaze likes to replace equipment for a sale rather than find customer service important. read more

On a positive note, Opal and Jennifer in the office were very professional, pleasant, and helpful. The rest of my experience with Blaze was not good.  We are former Comfort Master customers. Blaze bought out Comfort Master sometime within the last year or so. I had hoped that Blaze's service would be similar to Comfort Master's, but it is not. Alex came on a Friday to do our fall maintenance. When he was done, he gave me a verbal laundry list of what was wrong with our thirteen year old systems, but nothing in writing, so I had to write down everything he told me. He gave me no priorities on what needed to be repaired to keep the systems operating, and he gave me no estimates. He was implying that the systems needed to be replaced. When I told him that I would call the office to set up an appointment for replacement options, Alex said that he was the sales person and that he could come on Sunday, so we made that appointment. In my opinion, when the technician and sales person are the same person, that seems to present a conflict of interest. I told him before the maintenance that I hadn't decided yet whether to use the Blaze coupon for the service or renew my maintenance membership. After the service, he said that the coupon didn't apply because the maintenance it listed wasn't the same as what he had done. I hadn't yet processed all the things that were wrong with the quality of service I had received, so I paid for the membership to cover this fall maintenance and the coming spring maintenance. I regret that decision. Alex came on Sunday to present us with replacement options for our two systems. He was polite and respectful, but he was obviously trying to make a sale that day. He even asked us at the beginning what would prevent us from doing business with him that day. Why on earth would anyone commit to paying tens of thousands of dollars without having time to check other companies, do research, and take time to think? His presentation consisted of telling us that Blaze only deals in Armstrong products because of their proximity in SC, reiterating the warranty and the no lemon policy, and showing us on his iPad a little picture of each unit he presented along with a model number. He gave us the big Blaze booklet and the membership brochure, but he had no information to give us as far as the units he presented to us. I had to write down the model numbers and every detail he gave us verbally about the units. He should have had information on each unit to give us. When we researched the model numbers later, some of the details he gave us verbally conflicted with what the Armstrong website said about the units. When Alex sent the proposals via email, the proposals listed no brand name, no model number, no real information on the units he was trying to sell us. The prices were very high, and the warranty details were different from what he had told us. If we had signed those proposals, we would have been prime candidates for having inferior units installed and having no legal recourse. Alex did the service on Friday, I paid for the membership on Sunday, and after mentally processing our experience with Blaze, first thing Monday morning I called Blaze's office to request a refund on the membership I had paid for and to request that I just pay for the service I had received on Friday. Jennifer in the office said that she would send my request to the membership service person. I called Tuesday and reiterated my request. Wednesday morning I received a call letting me know that Blaze would not refund my membership. I explained again that I would not be using Blaze for anything, that I would not allow anyone from Blaze into my house, that I would not be receiving the spring maintenance or the electrical and plumbing inspections. I asked to receive half of my membership payment back since I had received only the fall maintenance. Finally, after much back and forth, the office person checked again with membership, and I was told that Blaze would refund $100 plus tax. I had paid $384.81 for the year's membership.  Ryan, Blaze's HVAC Service Manager called me Wednesday afternoon to get my feedback. I hope my feedback will lead to improvements, but I am not convinced that it will. I would not recommend Blaze to anyone, and I think the business model needs to be seriously improved. read more

I am summarizing as this is a long ordeal with my dealings with Comfort Masters of Zebulon, NC 2015 Installed new Trane 5 tn HVAC unit in my then in-laws' house. 10-year warranty 2/2016 installed mini split systems -two outside units two inside units. 12-year warranty. Done as part an upgrade to combine families and allow in-laws to age in place. 4/2016 - Moved into residence 2016 - Called out to adjust the installation in one mini spilt as it did not drain from inside unit. it was upstairs and drain was laid with reverse fall and caused the condensation line to overflow on to the floor, they adjusted, but made no attempt to clean up, dry out the carpet in the area that was soaked. Maintenance program from purchase til now. Over the years several up sale attempts for deep cleaning, catch up cleaning that sort of thing. 2019 - Capacitor on outside unit goes out called responded 1 day later and charged 350.00 (best I can remember) for a $36.00 capacitor that can be bought at any local supply store or amazon. 2021- induction fan in Trane unit began making noise shorty after a maintenance visit, then became worse over time. Called them out to look at it as part of next maintenance visit, they first stated that the repair would not be covered under warranty then got the warranty reinstated and could replace the $89.00 fan for $888.93 because it was just labor. I called Trane customer service, and they said the labor to replace should be based on 30 minutes. I replaced it myself, took 20 minutes 2021 fan in Mini split started making more noise (compared to the three others) and maintenance report stated varying fan speed. Estimate to replace fan motor $1147.00, again warranty would not cover. I sourced that fan motor through the same supplier(D&L), and it was $84.99. I bought it so I could replace it when it went out. 2022 maintenance records do not mention any problems or concerns...other than repeat upscales. 1/2023 - fan in mini split that has always made noise came to a grinding halt, spit out plastic parts and made a lot of noise. I called another company, with the same Mitsubishi certifications (better actually) and their read on the unit was it was either damaged during installation or someone pulled or pushed on it. Called and request and service manager or supervisor come out to access the unit. They sent a Sr tech and he stated that there were on photos or information that showed the damages, and he could had serviced the unit before, and it had always made the noise since he had serviced it. As of today, they want $2915.00 to replace to broken part, the service manager, Angelia Massey showed no compassion or remorse and would not explain how the damage could have happened or why they would not stand behind the instillation or maintenance that they performed. A new inside unit (not A replacement part) and installation from two other dealers in the area average$1750.00. Both visited the house today and provided a quote. Comfort Master has enjoyed a glowing reputation, but people should pay attention. They overcharge for everything they do as they feel they have no equal, but beware. There are other very reasonable companies out there that can and are willing to be ethical and reasonable. Update ;The company has reached out and was willing to listen. The operations manager reviewed the available information and made the decision that the repair would be completed. read more

If I could give negative stars I would!!! I have been going back and forth with Comfort Masters for 2 years. I had a brand new unit installed 2 years ago. It took them 11hrs to intstall. The compressor went out within 2 months, then they told me when the replaced the compressor (now I know they should have replaced the whole unit) that they had to add refrigerant (which I also now know should never have to be added for the life of the unit). I have had them come out several times because during the summer the temperature in the house would not go below 83 and I would have to use fans to help stay cool (increasing my electric bill) and during the winter I would use electric heaters to assist with heating my house (again causing my electric bill to be higher by using both). I have a warranty and it seems like this company is trying to prolong resolving the issue so that my warranty goes out and I would have to pay out more money. I have a 100% Satisfaction Guarante or my money back - but this company is NOT honoring it. I am NOT satisfied with the unit, this company and their lack of professionalism and willingness to resolve or refund my money. At this point I want a FULL refund for a unit that said was new but has never worked properly and had faulty parts. read more

Get a text at 8 50 they are on their way and then said well since I can't be there it will be Thursday. I explained there is an active leak and I work 45 minutes from our home. You can't give me 15 minutes notice but nothing she just said they are trying to get to everyone and I said I have called texted etc and no response. how many times do you actually have to call? Supervisor was supposed to call but no word. The customer service is terrible I said I JUST want to know for sure you will be able to do this. No commitment to service. It's like pulling teeth to get help. Then they blamed the answering service for not answering the phones. This is a terrible customer experience. My HVAC system is 7 years old at the time that it requested service to it 3/23. In march or 2023 they sent a junior technician that misdiagnosed my HVAC issue and it cost me $449.00, the technician also broke materials ( ceramic Tiles) in the HVAC room that was being stored there when he dropped something. He didn't even clean it up he left all four of the broken tiles on the floor. The HVAC worked for an couple of days and then stopped again. In about two weeks they sent a senior technician that diagnosed and fixed the heating issue by changing the zoning board. They credited some of the work and only charged me an additional $340, Smh. Fast forward to 10/09/23. The HVAC system is causing the same problem and they told me that I should look into finding another company to service my HVAC. Their alleged reason was that I did not pay a diagnostic fee when a technician came to my house (7/23), for another reason, the technician told me that it would cost me over $200 to drain a line. I told him I couldn't afford that right now and he offered information on how I could do it myself and where to get the equipment from. He also told I might be charged a diagnostic fee, he never asked for payment so I assumed that it would be requested via email but nothing was ever sent for payment and I assumed they waived it since the technician was at my home for less than 5 minutes. On 10/8/2023 I noticed that the unit is doing the same thing that I paid Comfort Master almost $1000 to repair. They refused to help me and told me to find another company to service my HVAC system repeatedly. When I asked them about the ongoing problem that I paid them to repair they told me that it was probably due to the drain line which is not true and unrelated. They never asked me to pay for the fee and repeatedly told me to get another company and finally the manager hung up on while I was in midsentence. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! They scam you out of money and have novice technicians that don't know what they are doing. Unless you know senior techs work personally, GOODLUCK! read more

They also blew my fan motor by putting in the wrong part the first time. Safe to say i will never use this company again and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. We needed a new downstairs HVAC unit. I called over a dozen different places. Only three could make it to an appointment. So right off the bat only Trane dealers took the time and cared enough to want our business. Bobby was the salesman who came out to our house. He was very professional and knowledgeable about Trane products. He did a complete assessment of our heating and air needs. What was reassuring that all three who came out when inspecting our duct work under the house. They all said that the two return air ducts where to small and starving our system. So Bobby worked up a quote with new duct work, new air handler, outside unit. It came with Trane's excellent warranty program. We did not go with them because the quote was ruffly $600 more with only a 2 year labour warranty. That is the reason for 4 stars, pricing was to high at every step of the way. I have to say it was a very hard decision, Bobby was excellent to talk to and work with. read more

The service technician, Eric, came out for our 6 month winter (heating) check-up. He was on-time, professional, and I was really digging their new electronic invoicing. I had several questions about the functionality of my thermostat which Eric was able to answer quickly and provide advice. I've been with Comfort Master for several years and they have been amazing to work with .Even when I had a major mechanical issue that turned out to be a defect and I went through three compressors, Comfort Master kept me, the customer, in mind and satisfied. read more

When I called to request service, I asked if the service fee would be applied to any repairs if they did the repairs. The lady kept repeating the same thing, and would not answer yes or no. I spoke to two other businesses that flat out answered yes to this question. This leaves me to think that they may not offer the same price to everyone or that they have something to hide. read more

I've been a Comfort Master customer since 1999 when they installed the HVAC system for a house I was building (and where I still live). I've been a Comfort Club member as long as I've owned the house and a couple of years ago they installed a replacement HVAC system for me. The technicians are consistently professional and provide excellent service. The company is easy to deal with and responsive when I call for routine maintenance and service calls. They are not the cheapest around, but I believe this is a case of "you get what you pay for." Jacob recently assessed a problem I was having with a secondary system in a small home addition. Comfort Master did not do the installation for that small system, but they have cared for it when needed. They adjusted a scheduled maintenance appointment so he could deal with the problem with the secondary system at the same time. This saved me the cost of a service call. Jacob was pleasant and professional and nice to my little dog, even when the dog was suspicious of the (scary) red shoe covers he wore to avoid tracking dirt into the house. I have recommended Comfort Master to friends and plan to continue using their services. read more

Have a service contract with this company. Upstairs unit was not cooling properly. They came out the same day. A capacitor had to be replaced. $99 for the evaluation, okay with that. But an additional $233 for a capacitor that costs $20. Spoke to a service manager who defended the pricing. I told her that this is price gouging. She did not agree. You be the judge. I will not be renewing my service contract with this company. I have lost all faith that this company does the right thing for their customers. read more

I have owned four units installed by this company; all of which were manufactured by Trane. Two of which had to be replaced for early failure. Now a third has broken down after less than 5 years, well within the 10 year parts warranty. Despite the parts being covered the repair cost was still thousands of dollars. After researching others experiences and information about this model online I discovered other problems and concerns and found some of them to be present with my unit as well. I was worried about paying for this repair only to have another part breakdown. I asked Comfort Master if it might be better to replace the whole unit. According to Trane's own website calculator (cost of repairs multiplied by the age in years of the unit) I should be replacing the unit based on the main issue alone. I was told by Comfort Master that they were unable to address these concerns and to contact Trane directly. When I contacted Trane, customer service started a claim and told me to get a "diagnosis for a new unit" from my service provider. This is where the problems really started. Comfort Master claimed they did not know what this was and that it was not needed. After a number of emails trying to clarify they told me that they had contacted Trane who told them that this was not needed. When I called Trane they would tell me the same information, a diagnosis of new unit, was needed. The Comfort Master employee went so far as to claim I might not have called the correct place asking who I spoke with on these calls. I kept records of each call and eventually it was agreed that I needed an assessment of the current unit to verify its condition. The previous service record having almost no info about the condition of the unit, I asked about getting another. I was told that they would not do so since the current problem had to be fixed first. So I have to spend the money to fix the problem in order to find out if the unit is any good to keep. After many years of as a customer and many promises of providing the best customer focused service and conviction that "you can't stop a Trane" I am done with both companies. Fool me once, twice, and I guess three times the charm. read more

I highly recommend the annual service contract - you really need to have your system looked at twice a year to ensure fewer problems. And when there is an issue, they will come out any time. Greg Tysor was our sales rep and they were outstanding. The guys that did the install were professional, polite and did a wonderful job. We just had an inspection and Comfort Master is coming back to fix something that was wrong from the ORIGINAL install i.e. it wasn't there goof. They are doing this free of charge so everything is safe and passes inspection. Greg was wonderful from start to beginning--he remembered we were engaged (and now married) when we saw him at the home show. The had installed my husband's system at his town home before we got married and that is one of the reasons we went with them. They were also competitively priced (they beat Costco's contractor) & didn't try to oversell us (we plan on moving in a few years.) Call Greg to get a free quote! You won't be sorry. Absolutely 'as good as it gets'! We had an old fuel oil unit we had stopped using altogether since it cost $500 to fill the darn thing and it lasted maybe 3 months. Mike, Ismael, Jun, JW, and Joseph were 100 % responsive, polite, neat, and efficient installing our new Trane XV18 Heat Pump. We have an older home and the install required that our outside electrical system be upgraded to 200 AMPs. They handled that issue too. I can't say enough about these folks. We are looking forward to enjoying the comfort and money saving benefits of the new Trane they installed and continuing a maintenance relationship with them. Definitely recommend them. read more

Richard from Comfort Masters answered our distress call when our upstairs A/C unit quit working on a weekend. We were worried it would be a huge fix, but it turned out it was just the switch. He explained that the switch should have been covered in plastic, but the heat of the attic broke the plastic and the switch wasn't making contact, therefore no A/C. It was in the 90's for the last 3 days so sleeping last night was hot and sticky. Richard was able to fix the switch and woo hoo - air! Thanks Richard! read more

I wanted to replace my 32 year old ductwork and 18 year old first floor furnace/AC unit. I obtained 5 different estimates for this work. Greg Tysor at Comfort Master gave me the most thorough explanation of all my options for the equipment, answering my questions and providing a complete explanation of the installation work. Greg was knowledgeable and professional. He gave me a competitive estimate and helped me make a good decision on a quality Trane system. Ismael Arreola was the lead installation mechanic and was also very professional and thorough. It was a substantial job removing the old furnace, AC unit, trunk line and duct work and replacing everything. It was done, as explained, over two days, though quite long days so that everything was running by ~ 7 pm of the second day. As promised, they replaced the boots as well as the registers and sealed them well to the ductwork so there could be no leakage of crawlspace air drawn into the house. They also did a nice job situating the furnace and the condensate drain line so that it would properly drain the system. They were careful and respectful working inside the house to replace the return air panel, thermostat and registers and did a fantastic job. We had our system installed five years ago. We have the service contract and highly recommend it. You need to get your system serviced anyway and this extended our warranty. They are always on time and courteous. They are neat, which I appreciate a lot. Recently our outside system wouldk. not come on. It was about 5pm. They were at our house by 7pm (close to Fuquay).The technician found the problem and fixed it in minutes. We had a cool home again soon. If I could give more than five stars, I would, and I feel bad that I have not done this before now. This company gives is the best I have ever dealt with!
