I love the concept of build-your-own pizza, and Blaze is the best fast-casual restaurant for this! Each pizza is under $10, which is a steal. Since you build your own, you can ask for extra toppings for no additional charge. They have a large range of toppings from different types of cheeses, proteins, vegetables, sauce drizzles, etc. My only complaint was that some of the toppings were inconsistent -- the roasted broccoli was dripping with oil, some of the basil leaves were brown/wilted, etc. The workers are friendly and efficient, so you will be in and out of the restaurant within 15 minutes. Also, Blaze is open to 11PM, which is a lot later than most places in Tuscaloosa. read more

The only truly redeeming qualities about this place (why it gets 4 instead of 3 stars) are the toppings they offer, the fact that they're allergy friendly, and their rewards system. Blaze has a very large variety of toppings for anyone's taste. I'm especially thankful for their ricotta cheese and arugula. The rewards app is also very easy to use and actually offers worthwhile deals every now and again. That said, be prepared when coming here for slow service, a somewhat dirty dining area, and indifferent staff. I tend to only order to-go here because of all these factors. Blaze Pizza closed in Birmingham in 2020, and my husband and I had some coupons that expired before the end of year. Hating to see them wasted (and up for an adventure) we drove to Tuscaloosa one Saturday afternoon for a pizza date. We arrived mid afternoon, so not peak time, so I figured we could get our pizza and eat outside with no problem. We both did the Build Your Own pizza option and got lots of different toppings on our own pizzas. The flavor of the toppings was good, but they left my pizza in the oven a little long, so the crust was a little charred/burnt. It left a funky after taste in my mouth. This was one of my first times in a restaurant in 2020, and while they had guidelines for where people should stand, etc, not many people were following. Hence why we sat outside to eat (even though it was a little chilly). They don't have straws, and the lids for cups are so difficult to get on, that I ended up cracking my plastic cup and needed a new cup/lid all together! An even larger waste of plastic! Will we be back? Probably not. But it was an adventure for the books. read more

Pleasant experience at Blaze. Everyone treated me with respect and took careful consideration with what I asked for on my pizza. The staff was knowledgeable about ingredients and common allergies. Great for people with gluten or dairy allergies! By the time I got to my seat, my pizza was hot and ready. Definitely has the speed of fast food but it actually good quality, "fast fired" as they call it. Will definitely be coming back. Recommend for anyone looking for something new to try. Stopped into Blaze Pizza and decided to try a pizza. As I looked around the food bar where all the toppings reside was messy, in disarray. Some of the veggies bins were empty or almost empty. The young man who assisted me was very helpful. As I passed through the lane I chose toppings and a young woman took over. She was also helpful. I waited quite awhile for the pizza to be sliced and boxed and the pizza had gotten a bit chilled. I strolled around by the drinks and the floor was very dirty, the drink machine area was also messy. I think this restaurant needs a deep cleaning. As for the taste of the pizza, I enjoyed the crispy crust however had hoped for a burst of flavor. Absolutely delicious! I am vegan and struggle to find good places to eat out around town, but Blaze is certainly a winner. They have vegan cheese and meat options! I didn't get any cheez but did try their spicy vegan chorizo on part of the pizza which was absolutely delicious-and certainly spicy. I went in about 9:45 (before realizing they close at 10) and felt so bad to bother the folks working behind the counter, but the staff was still incredibly thoughtful and attentive. I got exactly the pizza I wanted: lots of veggies, no meat or cheese (and they were conscious to avoid cross-contamination with their gloves). You HAVE to try the roasted Brussel sprouts as a topping because those are delicious, but the entire pizza and experience were excellent. read more

Walked in to order a pizza. I made a "build your own" & sat down to wait on it. I sat for 30 minutes & watched 5 people (including 2 large group families) get their orders before me. I was trying to be patient so i never went up to ask where it was. After the fifth customer getting their pizza, I went up to the lady who checked me out & she said she never put my order in. By now, I'm late for a meeting i was supposed to be at. 10 minutes later (thankfully) I got my pizza. When you build your own, you pay for each little thing on the pizza. I got pineapple, sausage, & pepperoni on it, & there was no pineapple or sausage & maybe 4 pepperonis altogether. I also got Parmesan cheese & basil on it & there was none of that as well. I was so excited when this opened here! I have been to Blaze a lot in California and finally Tuscaloosa has one too! The pizza crust is just the right for a crispy thin crust pizza. I didn't like thin crust pizza until I went to Blaze!! And there are so many healthy options! I love how they have the calorie count for everything because then I can see which items might be healthier options. They didn't burn my pizza like some other wood burning pizza places in town.... but the enjoyment doesn't stop there. I am obsessed with their juice drinks (to the right of the soda). They are not super sweet and they rotate the drinks out seasonally. You have to try this is you are looking for a healthy option or want a personal plan pizza.
