I didn't care who was my stylist but most importantly I wanted to be happy -'and I was. She listened. Styled it the way I like it. Of course, everything adds up between the tax and cc fee (another $3) and tip. Hint- if you can't get an appointment in one location, just call another one nearby- That's what I did. I wanted to love this place. The woman who did my hair at no point took her headphones out or spoke to me (she did take a long phone call with her headphones in and speak to the other hairstylists). It was like I wasn't there. When she was finished, she just took the smock off and walked away while on her phone. I didn't have an opportunity to tell her it wasn't what I wanted (I asked for light waves and had a photo of what I wanted and she did super straight). I still tipped 20% but my hair wasn't what I had asked for and didn't hold up even for a few hours. The experience was uninviting, I won't be back. read more

I'm giving one star because zero is not an option. DO NOT GO HERE. Their stylist severely heat damaged and burned my hair to the point that it's falling out in chunks. It looks choppy. Their resolution for this is to offer a refund and a free blowout. Why would I get a blowout when my hair is ruined to the point that I need a haircut and they refuse to reimburse me for that. I've had many good experiences at the Blo Bar on E64th but today I had a horrible experience. When I showed up for my appointment, I was checked in and was told to wait for my stylist. My stylist was audibly complaining about his schedule and barely greeted me when he approached me. He asked me what I wanted. His body language was off putting. He rolled his eyes and acted as if he was inconvenienced to blow out my hair. When we got to the wash station he man handled my head- he used super hot water and nearly scalded my scalp and was rough. He even soaked the back of my dress. When we got to the blow out station I asked him to blow my hair out with brush curls. He started using the curling wand. I asked him not to use it and he began to complain. He stopped blowing my hair out to tell the receptionist that he was in a bad mood and that he shouldn't have come in. He continued to use super hot heat and burn my scalp and be rough with combing my hair. Every minute I sat in the chair I considered getting up and leaving but I have a blow tab. He even had the nerve to complain that guests weren't tipping him enough in front of other guests! So unprofessional and shameful. I've been here so many times and this experience really affected how I view Blo E 64th. Yikes! read more

Worst blowout I have ever gotten in a hair salon. I asked for curly with a curling iron which usually lasts 5 days for me.By the time I got home it was pin straight. it lasted 20 minutes. Eh. Mediocre. The night before they called for me to come in 15 min earlier but I never got the voicemail. As I was coming in I saw a girl with tight shirley temple curls. Why?? That doesn't look good in women over the age of 10. My stylist proceeded to do the same. I asked for volume, which I never got, and she put my hair in tight curls and told me they would hold and relax in a few hours. How wrong! I ended up going to my friend's bridal suite and the stylist there for the wedding re-pinned my hair bc it was so flat. My hair also smells burnt from the intense flat iron pulling. It can be a hit or miss depending on who your stylist is but I have been here more than a dozen times and probably only been disappointed once and it was not enough to keep me away. Their hours make it convenient, and the location is nice and clean. Recently I took my 11 yo niece with very thick curly hair for a blow out and Hannah did an exceptional job and was so warm and patient. My niece was really happy with her hair. This is the best blow dry bar in midtown. Their other location @E49th is awesome too but I moved recently so switched to this location for convenience. Professional, NICE, on time and the stylists there are really talented vs the hacks down the street at Drybar where I can't recall any appointment being on time or feeling like someone with no experience was doing my hair. I had the worst experience I've ever had in a hair salon here. I am pretty sure that every single person in the salon was high-- I came for a 1:45 appointment and there were 8 employees sitting around laughing and eating food that they were microwaving in the salon which smelled incredibly pungent, like pork or beef and fondue. Then when they saw me arrive, nobody approached me and they argued loudly about who should have to style me. They then washed my hair and got my entire face and dress wet, because I had no robe on. Keep in mind this was during my work day and I was clearly wearing a work dress. Then the woman took me to blow dry my hair, worked incredibly slowly and ignored all of my suggestions for how I wanted my hair styled. She seemed to be very high as well. I was a little uneasy at first reading previous reviews, but I am so glad I still decided to give this place a shot. The place was so clean and the staff was very inviting and I immediately was served a complimentary glass of wine. I always wear my hair straight so my stylist convinced me to try a soft, beach wave which she stated was the most asked for style. All I can say is WOW!! Clean place. A friend and myself went in yesterday for our blow out appointments. We had a black tie event at 6pm. After the blow out I looked in the mirror and did not really see any beachy waves as I requested. Pieces were not beachy waves, let alone a curl of any kind. I sat back down and she tried correcting and teasing it for some body (which I also requested). Rather it looked flat and frizzy. Less than an hour after my blow out, it appeared that my hair was blown out five days prior. Not something one would expect. I have easy hair for blowing out and styling any which way. Messaged my issue with blo bar's website after the event. Received a reply back and was informed contact the blo bar location we were at. Why would I when I did ask for it to be corrected prior initially leaving. Spoke with Emma this morning and she did offer appointments for that day. Human nature kicks in and one would hope propel would be unbiased, but honestly what are the odds. Stated did not wish to go back to the same location. Emma's offer was so, so, her undertone said it all though. Asked if we could come in Saturday, she offered 9:45am or very late at night. Asked about h other location and she informed no. Called a couple of hours later and inquired with Lori which time slots are available for Saturday. She informs me noon and 5:30pm. Hmm. Possible cancelations transpired. However, when I told Lori who it was after she told me the availability I heard her tone change. Emma called back and left me a voice mail staying they don't do 'free' appointments on Saturdays. HUH. Different story from earlier when she didn't inform that and did offer 9:45am or bear close. Corporate informs me things as such don't become escalated at their level. Well, it's about a location. My question is who handles that. Overall customer service is a an extreme disappontment. read more

I went here for an updo. While she was very nice, my stylist was clearly very inexperienced with updos and after producing a style that looked nothing like what I asked for, she had to get help from 2 other stylists who helped her salvage it. All in all, it took nearly 2 hours, and started to fall apart about 2 hours later. Total waste of my time and money. They may do good blowouts, but this is definitely not the place to come for an updo. Also disappointed with the customer service--despite my complaints, no effort was made towards offering me another appointment. After I wrote my initial review (above), I was immediately contacted by the salon manager who booked me for a complimentary re-do, this time at the 72nd St location. The redo was a big improvement and this second experience was much better. However, I still think Blo is best for blow-outs (which they do very well) and I would probably go elsewhere for updos in the future. I didn't appreciate being told that I was wrong by the salon owner in his response to my first review: my initial stylist was obviously not adequately trained in updos, I did bring a picture of what I wanted, and I was very clear verbally about what I wanted (which was not very complicated). I live on Long Island and work in FiDi, and I had a date after work in the city but didn't want to go home to change and get ready. After looking around I decided to try out this place and I am so happy I did! Michelle gave me a fantastic bouncy blowout that gave me so much confidence! She even boosted my confidence while I was in her chair. Michelle definitely added to the whole experience of being pampered and putting me at ease. I feel bad giving 2 stars, but "Meh. I've experienced better." is accurate. And I wouldn't return given other options. The booking process was easy. The phone people were friendly. I was offered a drink when I walked in, and also they took me early. And it's got a super cute outside, complete with their own little bench. And the music is good and poppin' What I didn't like-- bathroom in the back was jam packed with misc. stock items. The "menu" of hair types was super overused and torn. My stylist didn't listen to me-- instead of volume, I got straight and flat. And the products were no good, so next day I had to wash hair (vs. some places I don't have to wash my hair for 3 days!). I also got a ton of long black hairs all over me and my bag... I paid extra for the massage... that was nice, but not sure worth $10. Those chairs were was uncomfortable on my neck, and the overhead lights are super bright, so not very calming. read more

I want to start off by saying this review is based purely on the service I received and not the performance of the hair stylist who did a wonderful job. This is is my first experience at a "blow dry" bar and I was very disappointed. To begin, I had scheduled my appointment for 7:00 pm but had called the receptionist early afternoon the same day to see if it was possible to reschedule my appointment to 7:30 pm as I knew I would be working late. The receptionist responded "no problem" and assured me my appointment was changed to 7:30 PM. I assumed it was taken care of. When I arrived just before 7:30 PM, I checked in with the receptionist and received attitude and nasty looks because I was late for my 7:00 pm. I explained how I had called earlier to change my appointment time but they did not acknowledge my phone call. I was sent to my stylist who gave me an excellent blow out . I must say she did listen to my direction, as I had asked for waves and volume, which is exactly what she did, however it unfortunately did not make up for the poor service I received from the front desk. To add to that, I saw that other customers were being poured glasses of champagne and wine while I was not offered any refreshments, which was very unprofessional. I must say this was supposed to be a relaxing experience and my time to "unwind" after a stressful work day, and unfortunately instead I felt I was more anxious to quickly leave the salon. read more

To my dismay, Blo Blow Dry Bar was A-OK in my book. It wasn't the best blowout hair experience I've ever had. I came with a group of girls last weekend to celebrate a friend's bachelorette party. Upon arrival, the receptionist gave all of us a glass of champagne which was nice and sweet. When it was my turn for the stylist to wash my hair, she barely squeezed all the water out of my hair before having me return to her station. Water was dripping down my back. Note: At least give another towel to dry off.. I feel like there should be actual pictures of hairstyles completed or guidelines on how it would look rather than a picture book of drawn out women with the hairstyles. Also, it would be helpful if there was more of a variety/selection to choose from. My hair stylist was nice, but my hair turned out like how I normally curl it. I think the majority of the girls could agree with me that we could have saved the $40 for something else but the concept of the blow dry bar was fun and exciting. At least this was a fun activity to have done for a bachelorette party. Will I ever do it again? Debatable. read more

I booked this appointment because I've heard good things about Blo (fast, friendly, no frills, good hair) from friends and the location is near my apartment. I work in PR for a number of prestige hair care brands and should have known better than to go to a new salon but the proximity was too tempting. I really wanted to love it but I am incredibly disappointed. It is NYE so I wanted to treat myself to a professional blowout for a really special holiday look. I went in with my naturally straight hair and sat down in the chair for my consultation. She barely looked at me. It was early morning before I had to be in the office and I guess she hadn't had her daily caffeine dose yet.. I explained that I wanted volume at the crown with big "Victoria's Secret Angel" loose waves but I gave fair warning that my hair is naturally straight, thick and heavy so holding curls is often a problem. My hair was shampooed lazily, not behind the ears or along the nape of the neck and the water switched between ice cold and scorching hot. She was completely oblivious. I kindly mentioned when the water was cold and when she nearly burned me I mentioned again only to get an "Oh." Once in the chair she faced me away from the mirror so I couldn't see what was happening. It felt like my hair was being blown straight I asked twice and she said not to worry. I wanted the round brush, with large rollers so the hair could cool and set. Using the curling iron only at the end to lock in the style. I wanted her to tease at the crown to create volume. I wanted BIG hair. I have a masquerade party tonight for New Year's Eve. She turned me around and my hair was stick straight. The same way it dries naturally. The same way I arrived at the salon. She then proceeded to curl it with an iron. When she was done I had loose curls that were pretty... but looked like I did them myself. I literally could have just curled my hair at home with an iron and saved time and $50. There was no blow out with this blow out. She seemed surprised that I was unimpressed. I told her honestly that I could have created the look myself. There is no volume at the crown she did zero teasing. There is no fullness and bounce. It's only been two hours and the curls have completely fallen. It is stick straight from the root to about my shoulders with slight bends at the ends. In a few more hours I predict it will be straight. The way I walked into the salon this morning. I 100% will need to redo it myself if I expect it to look decent for a party that lasts past midnight. read more

I come to BLO once a week on East 64th Street. I love the people and the ambience. The music is fun, they always serve you a drink and everyone is friendly and sweet. Jenny does a wonderful job on my hair. She is fast moving and the way she styles it always makes me look and feel my best. She is also very caring. The manager was contacted on the day and I was told that your business does not recognize these cards. This is odd as it is supposed to be recognized in NYC. read more

DONT GO!!! If it was possible to give this place 0 stars, I would! We had made an appt for 9 girls to get our hair done for sat night. Since it was raining we were about 15 min.late. As soon as we got there we were treated very rudely and basically yelling at us. The receptionist and one of the stylist were the worst. Seems like they didn't know how to run a business because they were ready to turn down 9 ppl even though the place was completely empty when we arrived. The lady that did my hair was literally yelling at my friend and she did my hair as fast as she could so it looked like crap! She only washed my hair for maybe 3 min. Just had a bad attitude the entire time. All the other stylists were great with my girlfriends, I just happened to get stuck with the rude one. I was looking forward to trying a new blowout place but unfortunately I wanted to walk out as soon as I walked in. The "stylists" there didn't look a day over 20 and were sitting in the salon chairs texting when I entered. As my hair was washed I was afraid my clothes would get wet because no cape was used. When she combed out my hair I asked for one because water and hair was getting everywhere. She said all they had was a towel. Not impressed. Cut to one stylist giving another a shampoo and the receptionist applying her makeup at one of the blowout counters as additional customers walked in. She continued to apply while asking them if they wanted coffee or tea while they waited. Overall extremely unprofessional and unimpressed. However the girl who did my hair didn't do a bad job so I didn't leave totally unhappy. However I will never go there again. read more
