Went for an event on a Friday evening around 6:30p. Parking was fine, some variety on tap, and decent bar food menu. Prices were standard, about $8-9 for a pint, food items were California prices. Plenty of seating, nice outdoor patio, chill staff. Food Items: Veggie burger: 4.2/5 - the tots were pretty good. Nice salt kick to balance the brew. Burger was fresh, tasty. They did run out of the 'specials' (buffalo chicken sandwich), but a side of buffalo sauce helped me scratch that itch. Regular burger (block burger?) - Friend enjoyed it. Didn't give a rating. It was good, decent, normal. Overall, if you are in the area, check them out. I am not really a fan of loud children running around and screaming at a bar, but that doesn't impact the rating. They do have some cards/games to use. Place was clean.

HH pickle bombs. NOT WORTH THE $8!!!!! 6/23/26

I had high hopes when I heard of the opening after Device shutdown. Saw a video saying the food menu would be limited so they could focus on consistency and quality food. I have to say I was not impressed at all. My turkey club was mostly bread and could have used more flavor. Tots were crunchy, so I'll give them that. Most disappointing was paying $8 for their so called HH priced pickle bombs that only had 6 pieces with the pickles being paper thin and almost hard to find with all the cream cheese and batter. I also tried a piece of their lemon pepper wings and was not a fan. Good fry on the chicken, but flavored salt just wasn't for me. I really wanted to be a supporter since it's the local taproom and nice for the area, but after having the food and just average beer...I can't say I really have any reason to visit again. I hope the other locals can keep them afloat. Service workers were great and made sure we were cared for. Very polite and accommodating. Ambiance of the place is just like a good taproom/pub with enough screens to keep all the sports games on and kept clean and tidy. This night, they were doing musical trivia which people seemed to be enjoying. 6/23/26

Block opened recently. Device closing left a void and I feel Block can fill that. Ambiance appears the same. Lots of TVs on the wall. Andrew provided great customer service. I sampled Merican and Campfire Stout both very good. Went with Merican a light lager. Andrew recommended sliders for Happy Hour. Better not eat the Ms has plans for dinner. Will return.

Stopped by to check out this place on a Wednesday evening. They have HH Mon-Fri 3p-6p. It wasn't super busy. I ordered the Lake Tahoe Aleworx Double IPA IPA - Imperial / Double * 8.5% ABV. It was good. I would get a pitcher if this next time. Staff were friendly. Plenty of seating inside & outside. It's exactly the same as when Device was around. There's a kids play area. Great place for families with kiddos.

Been waiting to check this place out since Device shutdown. Very limited food menu but good beer selection. Service was slow on a Friday night to be expected but kinda lack luster tbh. We asked for a soft drink and were directed toward the soda machine but no ice. We waited 7-10 min in between beverages to be asked if we want another round and tbh didn't feel welcomed. The owner was there and kinda was just taking care of "certain things" idk seemed like he was helping select groups. Not impressed.

Third time at Block and it is now a favorite! Attended to watch the Knicks beat the Spurs, to play mahjong and again today for lunch. Tim and the crew graciously opened early to accommodate 45-50 pickleball friends for lunch. Food was amazing as usual. We had the French dip and club sandwich and of course the Tetris tots. And of course had to partake in the delicious selection of beers. Today i tried the hard seltzer too. Yum! Great place and will definitely be back!

So happy that Block Craft Beer & Kitchen opened in our Pocket/Greenhaven neighborhood! We had a Pocket/Greenhaven Women's Pickleball Luncheon (30 people attended) and everyone was impressed with their food and beer! The service and management we're so accommodating, quick, and nice. The restaurant was spacious and clean. Great place to host group events. They even had games like dominoes for you to play! We all liked Block so much that we are having an NBA Finals Game 5 Watch Party there today! Looking forward to more gatherings there.

Came here on Pride month with Tyler Long and Nick Gibbs who love this place. Hands down best place to have a bite to eat and a nice cold beer. Whether your hear to celebrate LGBTQ+ or just want a place to call home, Blocks is the place to hang out! Coldest beer in town!

Just what pocket needed. Burger rocks and the turkey club is legit. Great selection of beers!

A big variety of great beer at its craft brew finest!

I had the privilege and the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of Block Craft Beer & Kitchen where I was welcomed by the friendly owners Timothy and Jason. The staff were all very nice and welcoming. I ordered the blackened chicken salad and cider and it was delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant where you will receive a five star meal and customer service! Thank you. ~ Tammy

As someone who grew up enjoying Southern comfort food, I can honestly say these are some of the best beignets you'll find in the Sacramento area. They're huge, light, fluffy, served warm, and covered in the perfect amount of powdered sugar. They're always fresh, and every bite reminds me why I keep coming back. My daughter absolutely loves them too! She goes back and forth between these and Huckleberry's, but for me, Iron Horse Tavern takes the win. This time we ordered through DoorDash, along with a side of chicken, a bag of fries, and--if you know, you know--TWO sides of their amazing Sriracha cream cheese. Trust me... one isn't enough! Food: Outstanding. The beignets were the highlight, but everything was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. It's nice finding a restaurant that consistently delivers quality whether you're dining in or ordering takeout. Service: Everything arrived perfectly packaged, neatly organized, and exactly as ordered. Nothing was forgotten, nothing spilled, and I even loved the thoughtful touch of the bag being labeled with my name. Little details like that make a difference. Ambiance: I've dined inside several times, and Iron Horse Tavern has one of my favorite atmospheres in Sacramento. Located in the historic R Street District, the restaurant blends modern industrial style with warm, inviting décor that pays tribute to the area's railroad history. Whether you're stopping in for brunch, dinner, or cocktails, it's a place that's lively without feeling overwhelming. If you've never tried the beignets here, you're missing out. Sacramento doesn't have many places serving authentic-style beignets, and Iron Horse Tavern has definitely earned a spot at the top of my list. I'll absolutely be back... probably sooner than I should!

Our waitress told us how the menu worked and prioritized dishes to the table based on timing and items complementary to each other. This is a restaurant that focuses on seasonal items so the menu is constantly changing. When we looked online prior to our reservation, we had a few items in mind to get which were unfortunately no longer available when we arrived. For drinks we had the Sassenach and Tea Time. The Sassenach was very lemon forward. Much more lemon than passion fruit. It had a wonderful sweet and tart balance and was not too sweet. Would definitely order again! Extremely smooth. The Tea Time was delicious as well. It had a light smokiness to it and a thicker viscosity from the syrup they used, which had a wonderful mouthfeel. The Grilled Half Moon Bay Artichoke was wonderfully cooked. The dipping sauce had a nice spiciness to it. I liked the addition of the corn chips for a bit of texture. The Roasted Heirloom Carrot Salad was very tasty. I would say it was more of a side dish than salad. The puree was a nice compliment to the citrusy vinaigrette and was velvety smooth. The Smashed Sifra Potatoes were fantastic with the Tomahawk Ribeye. I only wish there were more! I enjoyed the addition of the tempura chickpeas for texture. Lastly was the 48 oz Tomahawk Ribeye. They told us it would take approximately 45 minutes so all of our side dishes, except for the potatoes arrived prior to the steak. It didn't end up taking as long as expected and I wish the carrots would've come out with the ribeye, but I don't think there would have been room at our 2 person table. They recommended the ribeye be cooked medium rare, so that's what we did and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was very flavorful and melted in your mouth. Would definitely go back again. The food was delicious and it had a great ambiance.

We smelled some fresh thyme on the way in. Inside the restaurant is very aesthetic. I absolutely loved that their menu showed the glass that the cocktail came in. This is my ideal cocktail menu. For my first beverage of the evening, I had the First born made with tequila, damiana, pineapple, strega, and lemon. It was a perfect cocktail in my opinion. The ingredients all worked so well together. This was a perfect glass choice.  From the quick bites section, the pickles were an obvious choice. There was their take on a traditional pickle. It wasn't super dill forward, but it was a solid pickle. The pickled beets were wonderful. I love beets, and these golden ones were no different. Lastly, the pickled squash that they made in a bread and butter version. It was a subtle bread and butter, which was good because normally I do not like bread and butter. I really enjoyed this plate.  I know a cab isn't normally the wine of choice with fish, but I wanted a cab, so that is what I got. Specifically, the Cabernet Sauvignon from Rama (2020) in Napa Valley. It was a nice glass of wine, but I wish it was in a better glass.

Again, there was a lag between our drinks being ordered and coming out to the table. The cocktails themselves were very enjoyable and well crafted. The drinks and some appetizers held us over until dinner came out. Overall, the food turned out to be worth the wait! That was a pleasant surprise after the service started out so roughly. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and that was enough to bring this dinner up from a 3 to a 4 star experience! We decided for our last night all together we would pick a highly rated one for a special meal. Magpie Cafe right in downtown fit the bill and we were thoroughly impressed by everything. We ordered just about every special plus many other dishes, some multiple, from appetizers through to desserts. It's in a beautiful area of the city, open to the street and green park. We opted to sit outside as it was a lovely evening. The beer menu had some regional favorites, all small and well chosen. For food we went all out, and I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Everything was so colorful and presented beautifully. Highlights were the pickles, fried asparagus, anchovies, and croquettes. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about our dishes, she added to the experience. If you're in the area, this restaurant is worth a stop. They even have a cafe in the airport!

The drink contained gin, strawberry syrup, and fresh lemon basil. It was light and refreshing and the perfect spring summer drink. Then we had the baby eggplant which was marinated in a soy glaze. It also had some sort of peanut sauce base. This was a delightful bite. Both of us were very impressed. The presentation was gorgeous. Clearly still on my eggplant craze. One of the reasons we went to Magpie was for the trout dip. In a shocking turn of events, they didn't have it. I think it was an old menu. Maybe their winter menu. This was a bummer. Instead, they had a salmon dip. We got that, and I wish it was more flavorful/smokey. Normally, I'm not a smokey seasoning person, but I think it goes nicely with fish. The chips though were really good. I love a kettle chip. I thought they would be thicker, since the dip was thicker. I'm glad they served the dip with the spoon. We also had the stone fruit salad. I was shocked it didn't come with a cheese, but after I tasted it, the creamy yogurt successfully filled that void. Once again, the plating was gorgeous. I think the peaches were good, but I can tell that later in the summer, these peaches will be even more delectable. I think the pistachios were an excellent choice to this salad. For my main course, I had the painted hills flat iron steak with a Chimichurri sauce and crispy smashed potatoes. The steak was well cooked, and with the seasoning of the chimichurri, it was a delightful bite. Sam had the gnocchi with pesto and fresh tomatoes. The gnocchi was fluffy. Both she and I thought that the pesto was good, but we both wish that we wish there was more of it. I love pesto though, so I am always going to think that. It came in dollops, rather than mixed in, so I think that was part of the problem. We also had to get dessert. I had the ice cream sandwiches. They were made with lemon thyme shortbread cookies with vanilla Guenther's Ice Cream. I wish it was a stronger vanilla taste or a flavored ice cream. The cookies were too good though. Sam had the lavender panna cotta. Normally I am not a huge panna cotta fan, but this one was delicious. It had such a strong lavender taste, in a good way. It kind of tasted like I was eating lotion because of the thickness of the panna cotta with the lavender flavor.
