They had an online "test" that you can take and they'll send you a list of stylist that matches your answers and personality type. Out of the 3 I got matched with I chose Jessica Maez. Jessica was very professional and very personable. She made me feel comfortable and at ease. And the best part was that she was really fast and my hair turned out great. I was feeling uncomfortable about trying a weave again since the last time I had one turned out horrible! I had tried two different stylist who did my weaves and neither one got it right. One could only sew in the hair and left you to style. The other just added too much hair. So needless to say, I was done with weaves. But once my hair told me she was tired of being heat styled every day and I need to give her a break, before she decided to "break" on her own. I decided to give a weave another try. For about two months I searched long and hard for a stylist. I wanted a stylist who did more than just a "weave". I wanted someone who cared about the overall health of my hair and can whip up a fantastic full weave style - as well as a fantastic natural style when I was ready. If you haven't realized by now, I'm a Yelp-er and I used Yelp to help me on my quest to find that stylist. Traci had excellent reviews and not only did Girlfriend have reviews - she had PICTURES!!! Stylist need to understand that showcasing your work is very important. Word of mouth can only go so far. To able to see the work is important. Traci has pictures on yelp, Facebook, and even You Tube. Her prices are AWESOME!!! and she can throw down!!! She is very nice and approachable. For me, as many people have experienced in the past....stylists who have done the complete opposite leaving you with damaged hair, horrible coloring that's been done and of course the amount of time it takes for your hair to repair itself let alone, leaving you to have trust issues and giving your trust in another stylist. I had a stylist that I had been working with for years...and trust me he was quite spendy, but Melissa.... There are not enough words to describe how much of a Godsend Melissa is...so let me try. She is an absolute professional, I have spent hundreds upon hundreds to get my hair done but she is better than any stylist I have ever worked with. She's attentive to your wants and needs but she will be honest and upfront with you because she wants you as a lifelong client. She takes the condition of your hair and will tell you in order to get it to this color, this is what is going to happen. She will NOT put herself to damage your hair. That's where the saying "patience is a virtue" comes into play. I absolutely admire her honesty and professionalism. She also explains the process in detail, why she uses certain types of products etc. she wants to educate her clients. She is incredibly knowledgeable and constantly is trying to perfect her trade. But the second time the owner was there and a different braider made me feel scammed in every way. Now the first time I give them a C+ and I felt good helping the African Immigrants out. Wasn't the best braids the customer service was there. She was dark skin. 2nd time D- on the braids alone. Someone asked after getting them done why I didn't get my braids redone not knowing I just gotten them done. The customer service the second time around was horrible with the owner there and the other braider light skin. I normally take my 6 cornrows down myself, but the second braider smiled and said I can take them down. I was kinda distracted by the owner talking to me. As the braider is taking my hair down she is had taken half of my braids down (3) she then mentions there is a charge for this $35. I was dumbfounded I said why didn't you tell me this upfront and she said it's on our website. I said ma'am I was going to use $35 for a haircut after the braid and gas. She didn't care and didn't change the price. 6 Cornrow braids total I don't even like how she took it down honestly I like to keep my hair not break them. Then she was like blow dry is extra, but I got on my phone and went to the janky website and showed her it was included. Everything felt shady. After getting a wash the owner unfortunately came back ruining the peace and trying to persuade me to download booksy app. After not being able to convince me I kindly told her some people don't want a million apps on their phone that you can just take money off their card at anytime. I told her I was trying to get away from that. She replied maybe America isn't the country for you. This coming from a South African who fled her country, even earlier she referred to her people of color as if I wasn't the same race. I'm a good sport I'm a Texan I laughed and realized I had more hair than her it was clear that masculine energy doesn't have a safe spot in the shop. Another lady in the shop joined in on the man bashing she had hair as long as a baby bird and a ring less finger I just smiled. The braider asked if I was paying by card I said yes what is the total she said 120. Took my card and asked my zip. I asked can I type it in she said no. I said ma'am I can get you cash if you not going to let me see what your doing. The total she was charging was 123.30 I looked at her and said you said 120. She a dishonest scammer in my eyes. She said that's cash price I told her this a debit card not a credit card where does it say this online. All in all it's a NO. The braids didn't last two weeks with the second braider, the 1st braider braids lasted I would work with her again just not in that shop just for customer service. My second braids looked like they were ready to be put under a wig.
