They had an online "test" that you can take and they'll send you a list of stylist that matches your answers and personality type. Out of the 3 I got matched with I chose Jessica Maez. Jessica was very professional and very personable. She made me feel comfortable and at ease. And the best part was that she was really fast and my hair turned out great. It's a welcoming and cute salon. There's reserved parking for clients, which is nice. Stylists seemed skilled, friendly, and the ambiance is nice. The online booking can be a bit much and confusing, but still better than having to call in to make an appointment. What I find frustrating is the gratuity. The MIDDLE pre-calculated gratuity was 28%. Does it say that it's 28%? No. Usually the pre-calculated amounts are 15% on the left, 18% in the middle, and 20% on the right or something similar. I would even accept 18% / 20% / 22%, but 28% as the middle?! That's crazy. read more

Camille is now my go to girl!! I had moved from Southern Cali to Texas about over 3.5 years ago & I was so nervous on finding a new hairstylist. Found this place a few years ago through Yelp after my old stylist moved and I had a few bad experiences at other salons that left my hair in not-great shape. I've worked with several different stylists at both their old location and their new one and I've always been very happy with how my cut and color looks. Had to stop going when Kathy kept making my hair black instead of medium brown, like I requested and in the pictures I showed her. I also asked her to put some lighter streaks in my hair to add dimension. They were so random and thick in places that I looked like had done them myself. Her station is so dark, so I couldn't tell how dark it was until I got outside. I almost cried. Each time I had to go back to try and have her fix it, and each time she made me feel like it was my fault. Also, when I asked for suggestions for my hair, she asked me what did I want... I had shown her several pictures each time, but still would not give me any suggestions, nor could not make my hair brown. The last time I went, I was heading out of town to meet my husband's boss 2 days after my appointment.... Was so upset about the color of my hair that I had to go to another salon the next day and spent 3 hours to get my hair back to brown and fix my wild streaks. Important UPDATE : I had to stop going to this salon quite some time ago because they charged my credit card on file for the entire amount of my scheduled appointment when I had cancelled it way ahead of time in accordance with their cancellation policy. I had to dispute the charges with my bank in order to get my money back! Very shady practice; be sure to keep all copies of any communication you have with this salon in case they pull the same shenanigan on you. Phenomenal quality and great experience . Hands down I have never been so impressed with a hair salon . They do private consult before you even have your hair done and they save what products they use for the nex time you come back in so its never a guessing game. I had my tape in extensions, done oversees while on vacation. My hair was growing out so I needed to get them moved up. I had 30 Wafts of hair, perfect brick layer. I was worried that I wouldn't find a hair stylist that would take care of the retaping with care. I read the reviews of the studio. Actually went and had an amazing blowout with Abbie. So I called about the retapping and meet with Becca. I told her my worries and she said that she would be able to take care of me. When I came back for my appointment two weeks later I felt confident a good job will be had. So the things that went wrong: 1. She washed my hair, put product in my hair(which I had asked for that,but I didn't know you weren't supposed to do that.) 2. She took 5 hours to retape the hair. She was supposed to also cut the ends but didn't. 3. She bunched up wefts on one side 4. a few of the wefts were overlapping. 5. She did not section off the hair to sandwich, so I have looped strands of hair and uneven. (She said that she put them back where the other stylist had positioned them. That was a complete lie.) 6. There is quite a bit of glue left throughout my hair, ears, scalp. Similarly, It is still sticky on the tape to this day. 7. Pulling or tugging on the extensions, using a comb, during removal that left balls of tangled hair on the floor...so hair loss has happened. 8. She only installed 25 wefts instead of 30 wefts.(i went to another professional that counted...I don't know where the other pieces went) I paid $377 plus $99 tip I wrote an email that night about what happened didn't get an answer. I called back, the studio apologized and set me back up with Becca to repair..... she couldn't adjust the tapes, because she had used all of my tape. She washed my hair twice, but there was still glue. She then stated that this whole process was normal. That I should have glue throughout my hair and that it will be washed off in a couple more washes.... It hasn't a month later. read more

Shae is a hair artist / wizard / scientist. I had been going to Toni & Guy for the last almost 20 years. And I had always been happy but never really wowed. I always got full or partial highlights. And I was so tired of leaving my appointments thinking, yeah that looks fine but not really awesome. So I decided to try something new and found Abstrakt on yelp. I was there from around 10-1:30pm. Even though she described everything she was doing, I know I will mess it up if I try to repeat it. But let's just say I now have natural looking roots/ crown with lighter pieces blended throughout and I am so happy. No more of the hard lines and streaks. Everything is very blended. They also truly style out your hair with a curling iron which Toni & Guy never did. It makes such a difference! The salon/studio is really cute and clean with drinks and snacks. Shae was so sweet and they had tons of hair pictures on their website and social media accounts. They take pride in their work. She knew what I needed and wanted without me really having to fully describe it. I am so excited to have a hair home now where I leave feeling awesome and looking awesome. Yes it does cost more than what I was used to but these are highly trained professionals who truly know what they're doing. I just moved to the area from Uptown less than 6 months ago and I typically do my own hair because I have just had such bad experiences or hair that just wasn't what I wanted. She made me feel comfortable and did not talk smack about why I did what I did to my hair - in fact, she complimented how good the color coverage was. Obviously it wasn't the color I wanted, I wanted to be a blonde beauty! Guys, after what I think was 5 or 6 hours later, my color correction came out FLAWLESS with virtually no damage! I got my haircut and styled by Camille yesterday. She suggested a personalized contemporary cut based on the shape of my face (which I really appreciated) and the texture of my hair. She knew what would look good on me and what style I could easily manage, as I told her I prefer air drying to blow-drying. She took a lot of care while cutting and shaping my hair and then diffusing it, showing me techniques I could utilize to bring out my natural waves. She gave me an excellent haircut and I felt relaxed and in good hands from the start. She was such a nice person! I will be returning to her the next time I need a trim. Called for an appointment, told them I had a big day coming up and wanted to look my best. Told them I have long, thick hair. Wanted layers and tapering. According to the yelp pics that should be no problem, and receptionist tells me they can all do this. I come in with three pictures, all of long tapered layers. The girl who did my hair was very sweet but just did not get it. I left, unhappy, and called to come back the same day. She still did not get it. I had three separate people tell me this is the worst haircut they have seen me get, without even mentioning a haircut to them. It is not tapered. The layers are in chunks (including right beside my face). I asked for very little overall length to be taken, over 2" of length was removed. Not flattering and not a good cut. For $80. I wanted to like this place because it's closer to my home than my regular salon. I will not be back, unfortunately. Waste of time and money, and had my big day with a really bad haircut. My advice to the salon would be to train your booking staff on each stylists' specialties and make sure they don't lead clients to the wrong stylist. read more

My 14-year old daughter has been wanting to get her hair highlighted for the past year, so to save money, my mom and I decided to do it ourselves. Being not-hairdressers, we didn't do such a great job. About 2 weeks later, the toner we used had washed away and we saw that we had gotten things pretty uneven and too much orange ended up showing-it needed to be fixed! My daughter looked all over yelp for a local salon and happened upon Abstrakt. We gave them a call (at 4:30pm) and they got us in the SAME day for a consultation with Brian. (By the way, they're open until 9pm, so their hours are awesome!) Brian spent lots of time explaining what he'd do to her hair, and he NEVER made me feel bad about the poor job I did! He was thorough and so sweet to us. We discussed the price. He was unbelievably reasonable for what he ended up doing: He blocked a significant amount of time for the very next afternoon, at our convenience, and got us right in...My daughter spent several hours there bc he wanted to make sure everything was perfect, using all of the latest coloring and highlighting techniques. He also threw in a little clean up cut to top it off and of course, he styled it beautifully. It's been a week now, and it still looks great. Brian also reassured us when we were leaving, that he would continue to work on it, only if we ever saw any brassiness coming up, to keep it growing out naturally and with minimal maintenance. In other words, he isn't trying to get us to have to keep coming in all of the time and spending a fortune. I found this salon by looking on Instagram at #planohair, and then took their stylist quiz to find someone to do my hair. This is how I found Jessica Maez's Instagram, and I noticed that a lot of the cuts she did looked like the idea that I had for my haircut. It was very easy to make an appointment online and the prices weren't too bad. I really liked this place! It had a very chill vibe, but it was also 1pm on a Tuesday, so it may not always be like that. The Salon's Senior Hair Stylist EMILY has serious EGO issues. I took a Hair Consultation appointment with her a few days back and was not satisfied with the feedback in the session. As part of the review, I gave her a 1 Star. Subsequently, I had a consultation with Alexa in the same Salon and was satisfied with her feedback and scheduled a 4-hour highlights appointment with her. However, on noticing the 1 star, Emily cancelled my appointment with Alexa at the last hour and barred any hair stylist in the Salon to schedule any appointment with me. I have to say I have never seen such Ego/Anger in a Salon. Just because I did not like one stylist does not mean I don't like the Salon. I am writing this because the behavior of this Salon is highly UN-PROFESSIONAL and now for sure I will not be going to that Salon ever again. I was disappointed with the salon itself. It is nothing special, but that isn't the problem - it is the staff. No one we encountered was friendly. It was the most uninviting three hours of our life. From the woman at the front desk to the assistant shampooing, not one person was nice. The least of which was our stylist, Shay. She acted as if she was upset being there for our entire visit. And we could have lived with that but then to spend $300 to not get what we asked for is what really upsets me. My daughter wanted a Balayage treatment and when we booked the appointment, that is what we were told Shay would do. After we arrive she told us that she doesn't do balayage but would do it her way instead. When I questioned it, she told me it was her discretion. It was at this point we should have left, but she had already cut her hair. We then discussed the color and explained we wanted something low maintenance and showed her several photos of blonde balayage styles. We did tell her we wanted more warm tones instead of cool ones. Then she proceeded with the treatment without saying a word to us. It was so uncomfortable! The entire time my daughter and I are extremely nervous as to what it is going to look like! When they finally removed the foil, her and her assistant (that never spoke one word to us) pulled and pulled her hair trying to get the tangles out from the very strange backcombing process she used to apply the color treatment. She was almost in tears!! I finally said something at this point and Shay then began to talk to us. I think it was because she realized that she literally did NOTHING to her color. It had no change at all!!! No blonde balayage to be seen!!! She kept trying to sell us on how this mild color change was best for her.
