This spot definitely didn't pass the vibe check. I'm not one to leave reviews unless I really feel the need to. From the moment I stepped in, I was being stared at by the bartenders in an ugly way. The spot has a beautiful view but too bad the same can't be said about the service. They definitely provide good service to who they want here, and try to segregate the rest. Discriminated by the COLOR of my skin! I walked in. Ordered a drink like every other patron, sat down close to the main door. Then I was harassed by a lady a stool apart from me to move further. Which i gracefully abliged. Then the bar tenderer insisted I move even further, which I even further moved with out argument. This is a great neighborhood bar with a great beer selection! It's very unassuming from the outside but super welcoming when you walk in. If you go to the back they have a large window seating are with some city views. Definitely worth checking out for an afternoon beverage! read more

I was at Blooms last weekend and everyone in my party ended up opening tabs. It was all a little confusing and my partner was charged $45 for 2 beers which of course wasn't right and after some time they fixed his tab and we were understanding because they mentioned they were dealing with a new credit card system. mine looked correct. A few days later I got a notification from my credit card that I had tipped 33%. When I looked at my paper receipt, an extra amount had been added to the 20% tip I left. Not only had I written the amount I should have been charged on my customer receipt, I could see the outline of what I had written on the merchant receipt, which was less than what they charged me. Blooms doesnt have a website and I tried contacting them through their Instagram account but didn't not receive a response. @Blooms I'm a reasonable person and happy to update this review if you'll reach out to me to fix the incorrect charge because I don't know how else to reach you and that's all I want to do. read more

I like this place soooo much! Mellow neighborhood location, sports on TV, the staff is super nice, prices are fair + it's a very welcoming bar. Such a good local bar to grab a beer. Lots of regulars here with some outdoor seating in the front and back. However, the back patio was closed but on the chance it opens up there is a great view of the city! There's also a pool table and a juke box if you just wanna chill inside. The number of times I've looked something up on yelp and seen "20-somethings love this place" is many. The number of times I've looked something up on yelp (Blooms, in this instance) and seen "40-somethings think this place is cool" is substantially less. Sadly, I no longer fit in either demographic but life moves on. I might've actually been at Bloom's back in my 40's and I probably found it then about as I do now: It's a basic bar, no frills, and a bit run down looking despite the self-cancelling descriptors listed here on yelp: "divey" and "classy". To say I'm glad there's still a place for such a thing here in SF in 2021 is an understatement. An IPA plus an Irish Coffee ran $14. Despite nice views out the back and a newly minted parklet out front, you're not coming to Blooms for anything swanky . You're coming for a drink, perhaps following a Giants game (or during: they have over-bar tv's), and for that it's just perfect. Paging through the photos here on yelp I found a couple images, from 2015, that included the image of someone I just met here a few evenings ago. So, it's clear that this place has its long-term regulars but they're welcoming and friendly. Though in the thick of Potrero Hill, Blooms reminds me of a couple of favorite bars out on Irving: casual, with a neighborhood crowd, friendly, and for the majority of those imbibing, their 20's are a distant memory. This bar has a lot of character, hard to label but I'd say it's a mix of nicer crowd and locals. Good beer selection and has full bar. Lots of TV's, pool, outdoor seating and a very underrated view. Drinks were cheap and staff is nice. Music playing the entire time, definitely best bar in the area. read more

Since my girlfriend and I never hang out in the Dogpatch / Potrero Hill area, we decided to check out one more bar before heading home. We walked over to Blooms Saloon on Wednesday, June 20th and arrived around 8pm. After having cocktails and whisky, I decided to switch it up to beer. Got a Stella Artois while my gf got a chardonnay. I believe it was a Joel Gott 2014. (Don't ask me how I know that. I honestly have no idea.) I paid for the first round, so from recollection, I think both drinks were $14. We ended up sitting down at a giant plush booth. Felt kind of like VIP status as I didn't see any other booths around. My gf ended up getting us a second round of the same drinks. Vibe here is chill. Kinda divey, but in a huge space. It was dark where we were sitting, but I believe there's big windows in the back, so lots of light in that area of the bar. I think they have a back patio, but it seemed roped off that day, so we didn't explore. The end of our time here was a little odd. When my gf came back after buying the second round, she asked me if I had any cash. When I asked why, she said the bartender seemed pissed we were ordering and paying by round instead of keeping a tab open. Maybe he was mad about the CC fees? It made us feel unwelcome, so we left after that second round. Nice bar to just chill and drink. Too bad we had that weird experience with the bartender. read more

This bar was very pleasant surprise. It's the cleanest dive bar I've ever seen but with the same local feel as you'd get from Cheers. The bartender is really nice and makes the best Irish coffee (and bonus it's affordable!) there is a pool table, and balcony open once a month (beautiful balcony too bad the neighbors protested to have it closed except for 1x a month- which seriously? That's ridiculous to mandate they close it during daylight hours) there is a delicious food joint across the street-this bar is truly a hidden gem. I love dogs, but, seriously. The space is great, bathrooms a little dicey. The back patio has a stupendous view - not sure why it isn't more accessible and used more. Was almost a 3-star review just for the price. Definitely SF pricing, but a neighborhood bar like this should be a little less horrifying than the Marina or North Beach. A couple of beers with tip will run you close to $20, so if beers and shots are your thing, a big night out can easily run you $100. Beware. parking in the neighborhood just sucks, as a rule. This bar gets a lot of light if you sit near the door. I'm not sure if they open up the patio to their guests. It's a typical dive bar that seems to be frequented by locals in the area. I know they gave us strange looks when a bunch of photographers stopped in and were thirsty from climbing the hills all day. The bartender took it all in stride and served us all quickly and efficiently. I loved the old school phone booth inside. Prices seemed reasonable for drinks. This bar was cool until we ran into the wild bartender with ears down to her shoulders. My friends birthday was being celebrated and all was good until he put $2 in the juke box. Bartender decided music was killin her vibe or whatever and turned it off (with out warning) to whatever was on her iPod. When we inquired about a $2 refund it was a rudely denied request- to say it nicely. (Complaining commenced) When my friend came to us to vent about the rude customer service, she promptly scolded him, turning the music off, displaying her alpha dominance- making it known that it is "her bar right now" and if he wanted to continue "talking shit" we can see out selves out the door. This is a neat little neighborhood dive bar with an amazing view of the city and the Bay Bridge. The staff here is always very friendly, and most of the patrons here are other folks who live in the neighborhood. The draft beer list is pretty underwhelming, especially with so much local craft beer booming in the area. It would be great for this place to update their taps. We like to come to Blooms because it is a lot less pretentious than a few of the other similar places at the bottom of the hill or in the Dogpatch. They also have our favorite classic pinball game Theatre of Magic, such a fun machine! Met a friend here for a drink, and it rapidly turned into a whiskey tasting fest. Felt a little weird drinking non-beer during the Giants game, especially since that seemed to be what the other handful of patrons were there to do, but it was kind of awesome anyway. Seeing that we were in it to win it our bartender kept offering us free tastes of something we hadn't ordered (yet) from their decently sized whiskey selection. As a note to myself and to anyone who values random strangers' opinions on Scotch, here are my tasting notes! - Aberlour 10: sweet, less burn - Glenmorangie (10 yr I think): lighter, woodier than the Aberlour - Oban 14: very smooth, a little "soapy." (This one has come highly recommended from friends) - Talisker 10: one of the three famous super smoky whiskies (with Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig 10) this one was a little more "bacon-like" than others - Lagavulin 16: smoother and woodier than the Talisker, this one also reminded me slightly more of the smell of gasoline too... - Dahlwhinner 15: lighter in color, this one was a little soapy tasting also (like the Oban) and also had a honey flavor and taste - Balvenie 14: darker in color, this one had a simpler and "thjinner" flavor" - Macallan 12 (OK this wasn't at this bar, but I had it recently): sweet and chocolatey (which the label advertises as "vanilla." Blooms is about two blocks from my house, where I've lived for almost four years, and I've only been inside it three times. This is a sore spot for me. I like to drink and I'm inherently lazy, so my neighborhood bars tend to snag a lot of my money, even if they kind of suck. But Bloom's sucks a whole lot, to the extent that on the rare occasions I want to get totally, horribly hammered, I go somewhere else, despite the obvious advantages of having a less than 2 minute walk home. And I don't ask a lot of bars when I want to do some serious drinking. This place is sort of sad. Not to be all emotion-y, but it reminds me of some of my least favorite memories of the 'rents. It's full of people about the age that my father will always be, rocking out on their own to The Eagles and drunkenly discussing the comparative merits of bands whose times came and went before I snuck out the side of a condom and found me an egg. They "dance" to 70's rock, and by dance I mean grimace and air-guitar. Singularly depressing, a pocket of the crap atmospheres I left behind in Texas popped up in the middle of my granola-liberal SF dream. My S.O. and I got yelled at for ordering an Irish Carbomb here. Are. You. Kidding. If there was a drink that efficient and tasty called the Jewish Occupation, I'd be actively encouraging my goyim friends to drink it. Sadly, all my people have is Passover wine, which tastes like a hangover. Better we should have carbombs, nu? But I digress. The important thing to note here is that Bloom's sucks, which is sadder than saying that Random Sports Bar sucks because it continues to have this potential (right near me, not a sports bar, pool table, usually not too packed, poor lighting, contains alcohol) that it absolutely refuses to live up to. (Interesting anecdote: my S.O. recently discovered Craig's List Personals, specifically the erotic services section. She was looking up the Potrero Hill options, and kept calling me over- "Hey! That chick's always standing outside Bloom's! And so's that one!" And it was true.) You know what? I hate how negative this review is. I bet Bloom's has some totally positive aspects, like it's really well retrofitted or it used to have a detective agency on the top floor or something. Maybe it kicks ass on, like, Wednesdays around 11 am. A wise friend of mine once told me that you become what you hate, and he's right. I'm heading over to Bloom's right goddamned now for a beer, and I'm going to try as hard as I can to completely enjoy every minute of it. For a quick, unpretentious drink in the middle of Potrero Hill, you really can't beat a stiff cocktail at Blooms. It's easy - just like my first girlfriend. Whoa, sick burn! They always have the Giants game (obvi when it's baseball season) on full torque. I can't say I've ever been to a bar that blasts audio from the game as loud as they do at Blooms. I scanned down the existing reviews for Bloom's and it made me seethe with anger. Really seethe. Bloom's is a treasure for people who know how to drink and for people who appreciate what a real watering hole is. I went here recently with a SFPD veteran who introduced me to the regulars. Let's start with the bartender: Rico. First of all Rico rocks. He gave us two rounds free and then slammed down a bunch of whiskey shots with us. Rico served in the Marines, and he has his priorities straight. He understands what makes this city tick, but he also understands that what makes this city tick is not what makes this city run. He likes people who make the city run: cops, DPW workers, bus drivers, custodians, and ex-Marines. You should too. If you don't, then go back to whining and work on your macrame messenger bag. Rico hates your appletini drinking ass. The booze here is good solid booze: beer, whiskey, bourbon, and gin. If you order a cocktail make sure it is one of the old standbys. Otherwise you deserve to be thrown off the back patio. (Which has amazing views.) There are no flavored vodkas here. If you order a martini, it will be gin...because that's what is a martini is. (This whole vodka thing is new...and it sucks.) As for the rest of the regulars, I won't say much more than they may be old and crotchtey because they have been dealing with unappreciative hippy wannabes for their entire careers. For you neighborhood reviewers who complain about them, try buying them a beer and thanking them for making sacrifices and putting themselves in danger every time they went to work for thirty years. I can't tell if I love or hate this place...I think I love hating it. If you are a 49's fan...this is your bar, all the season ticket holders drink here during the game instead of going to the stadium to watch their team suck more ass. The owner (Rico?) is very rough around the edges. Its a local bar, i.e. they don't take too well to strangers. However, they have free hot dogs sometimes and that is a good thing. Right? Honestly folks, absolutely no reason to go here. Such a waste of an awesome location that could be a really cool bar and place for the neighborhood to hang out, but NO. Usually there are about 6 to 10 dudes hanging out, loud and unfriendly, much like a couple of the regular bar tenders. Expect little to no service. Dont expect any smiles or nice fun neighborly conversation. Music in the jukebox sucks and is usually not on due to the sports being played on the TV. I hope some day for a new owner.
