First off our server Claudia was fantastic. She actually made our first experience at this restaurant extremely pleasent. We started our meal with the duck sliders. The flavors in the sliders were really good. The Duck was a little tough but tasty. The pineapple rice and the fried tofu were delicious. The Vermicelli Bowl was absolutely delicious. But the star definitely was the pineapple fried rice and fried tofu. Oh by the way did I mention how great our server Claudia was? Place was nice, food and drinks were mediocre. The restaurant was understaffed and I feel as if that fed into the lack of customer rounding that we experienced. Their old fashioneds were poorly made; which is upsetting because the drink itself is not hard to make, and even harder to screw up. The bartender muddled the cherry and an orange slice (not the peel, an actual slice) which made the drink taste like medicine. I ordered a beef rice plate (forgot the name) medium rare and it was cooked medium and very tough. Dinner for two was overpriced for the portions. I went for lunch on Friday; it wasn't busy, server was friendly. I got the Lo Mein lunch special - it was tasty. So far so good. The problem occurred when I paid my $10.83 bill with a twenty dollar bill and received $9. back. I asked my server where the 17 cents was that I was owed. She stated that they round up or down and I guess I was rounded down. I pointed out (nicely) that it was MY money. She stated they don't have coins at the restaurant. In retrospect, I probably should have asked for the manager, but I just left. I know , .17 isn't a lot, but it was my money to decide what to do with. A great place for casual dining and good eats! This restaurant is tucked in a plaza right off of ambassador and Johnston and has plenty of parking! You'll be greeted right as you enter and it opens up to a bar as well. They have great drink specials and different ones each couple of weeks! The staff is great, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. We got seated as soon as we got there no wait at all depending on the night, and ordered some starters and main entré with a cocktail. The cocktails are very tasty and not overly sugary or too strong on the alcohol the mixologist does it right! The food out not too long after we ordered and everything was so delightful! I've always got a hankering for noods and during this visit i ordered the bun bo hue, the aromatics if the soups filled my lungs and the taste of the nice lemon grassy flavor filled my mouth! I've been wanting to come give Blu Basil a try for a while and I am glad I finally did! Just adds another very good Vietnamese restaurant to the list for the Lafayette region. The interior was modern, clean, and set up pretty nice. There is a bar right as you walk in with a big tv that wouldn't be a bad spot to watch a game on a cold day while eating pho. The Pot Stickers were delicious. The outside was the perfect soft, steamed housing with a stuffed piece of pork. The sauce that came with it was salty but had great flavor. My entree was a large bowl of Bun Bo Hue and I'm glad that's what I decided to order. The broth needed a little acidity but it came with two lime wedges which was the perfect amount. The broth wasn't really that spicy but sriracha took care of that as well. There was plenty of fat mixed with the meat that melts in your mouth as you eat it. I'm sure you can't go wrong with a bowl of pho but I recommend trying their bun bo hue! read more

My mother, sister, and I wanted something different for a pre-Mother's Day dinner, and boy were we all impressed! We made it early enough for "happy hour" (5:30), so we enjoyed several $3 drinks (pomegranate martini, lemon drop martini, cosmopolitan). All were tasty without being overly sweet. We ordered the $5 Bulgogi Beef Nachos, Banh Mi Bites, and Pot Stickers and then decided to also order the Korean BBQ Pork Ribs, Sriracha Kimchi Fries, and Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice. Everything was unique and absolutely delicious! (The Sriracha Kimchi Fries and Pineapple Shrimp Fried Rice were the crowd favorites, but everything was amazing!) However second time we were rudely informed they were closing early day before hurricane (that didn't happen) we could not get another drink needed to leave! This was the first restaurant I had eaten in Louisiana. The interior of the restaurant was quite lovely, there were dimmed lights and also had spacious seating throughout the restaurant. We were greeted right when we entered and sat by a very nice young lady, which then was our waitress. Looking at the menu, there was a wide selection on foods. There were the appetizers, rice, noodle soups, and noodles section (plus much more). I decided to order the vermicelli noodle dish, because that is what I order back home in Georgia. For the table we ordered one order of duck sliders and fried calamari. Our waitress was very patient with our table of 5 as we each ordered our dishes and answered our questions. After a while of waiting we received our appetizers and the presentation was decent. The portion size of the calamari was doable with 5 people in our party. They also had a very nice crunch and were beautifully fried. For the duck sliders we each split, and they were AMAZING! The duck was very tender and the bun was steamed perfectly. My entree, the vermicelli noodle with beef sirloin and an added egg was breathtaking! The size was GINORMOUS and looked absolutely appealing. There was a great amount of beef and I believe this dish was way more worth than the $10.5 it was. I could not even finish it and had to pack the rest togo. Throughout our dinner, the kind waitress continuously checked if we were doing alright. Then after our dinner she rang us up in a timely manner. Pork bahn mi was pretty a little different than I'm used to gone was the pickled veggies that really make a good bahn mi and this one had sprouts. The pork was minced it had good flavor but not what I'm familiar with in this sandwich. Coconut curry great flavor but carrots and potatoes were damn near raw. Best part of meal was spring rolls. They came out and you could tell they were made to order very fresh and delicious. The pork belly bao was very disappointing and I know pork belly is mostly fat but a soft bao all fat and a sauce doesn't make a good sandwich. I went there because of the reviews. I walked in and was greated by the bar tender/bus boy. I asked him when does happy hour end he told me 5 pm. I said I thought it was 6:30. He checked and I could barely hear him say under his voice 6:30. The only items that qualified for happy hour were some martini's and wine. I ordered a martini that was mostly fruit juice and was very weak. We ordered the calamari which was sparse and the hot pot which was a pot that sat precariously over a gas burner and I was constantly having to steady the pot to keep it from moving. The cost did not match the quantity we received. I had asked the waitress to give us something to clean the dirty table and she never did. It was a gross experience eating off a dirty table. If you want a great ambience, great service and GREAT food, Blu Basil is a great option! I had the Lychee Martini which was delicious. The nice subtle flavor of the Lychee was not lost and it made for a stunning picture (well everything did). I had the pork pot stickers and pork belly sliders to eat. Both were really delicious, but I will say if you're not a fan of pork fat or really soft steamed buns, you may want to skip the sliders. I had a taste of the bulgogi beef lettuce wraps which were really tasty too! I do get a tiny feeling this could be one of those restaurants with better appetizers/tasters than entrees so you really can't go wrong with any of their appetizers and drinks! All were good, but the Pineapple Fried Rice served in a pineapple half was excellent. The choice for a flat plate to serve curry was odd and left a lot of good tasting sauce on the plate... we'll be back again!
