Hands down some of the best non Cajun food in Lafayette! The Vietnamese rice plate lunch special is my personal favorite. The short ribs are also amazing. I go at least once a week. My only complaint is the portions sizes seem to be getting smaller and smaller but I guess everyone is having to deal with inflation somehow these days. read more

Please visit Blue Basil if you have the chance. It has a variety of food you can't find anywhere else in Lafayette. We ordered the avocado pot stickers to start. It had chopped up avocado, tomatoes, crunchy onions and sauce topping six pot stickers. We loved the flavor. For our main entrees we got a chicken soup, which comes with a series of additives including beans sprouts, cilantro and other veggies, hoisin sauce, and other spices. We also ordered the coconut curry, which comes served in a coconut. Looked awesome! This is one of the few places in town that the dishes are as fun to eat as to view. Our server was also super nice and helpful. My only complaint is they were out of Thai tea. read more

I stopped here for a late lunch on a Friday. The host who greeted me at the door was warm, friendly and cheerful both upon my entrance and my exit. My waitress was also upbeat, friendly and helpful. I ordered 3 appetizers since it was my first visit and I couldn't make up my mind, but my waitress patiently guided me to finalize my decisions. I ordered the Avocado Pork Potstickers, a small plate of Korean BBQ Short Ribs, and the Bulgogi Beef Nachos. The Potstickers were beautiful on the plate and were a wonderful flavor explosion in my mouth. I would go back just to get this alone. Even though I ordered the small Ribs, it was still quite a sizeable portion and I am so glad of that because they were tender and the marinade was tasty and delicious. I ate every bite. The Nachos were okay for what they were, but the first 2 appetizers were just a really hard act to follow. The Nachos were a lighter fare and were more refreshing so might be more enjoyable in really warm weather when it's too hot out to enjoy hot food, or when dining with a large crowd and wanting to have a larger variety of appetizers, but I wouldn't order this again for myself since I prefer the other two and I was really full enough after eating the first two and was stuffed halfway through the this last one. I stopped in because I was craving Vietnamese food but Saigon Noodles was closed. Surprise, this has the same owner as Saigon and the food is just as good if not better. I was craving spring rolls and a vermicelli bowl but I ended up sticking with the happy hour menu for two $5 appetizers. First were the bulgogi beef nachos, which had the beef, spicy mayo, shredded crab, avocado, and a side of lime to squeeze all over on top of a crunchy chip. This was absolithely delicious and I almost ordered a second round, but instead decided to try out the Banh Mi bites. With the name "bites" I pictured something like a crostini, but this is definitely like a whole Banh mi cut into slices. The bread is a fresh and fluffy French baguette, and the grilled pork had great flavor without being too fatty. Since it was Monday, I got a lychee Bellini because all bellinis and mimosas are $3 on mondays. The lychee Bellini was the perfect balance of refreshing bubbles and sweet fruit, and it was great to sip on with my food. I already have plans to come back- I really want to try their pineapple fried rice and coconut curry, but you can't beat the value of two appetizers and a drink for $13 during happy hour on a Monday. read more

I'm totally blown away from the food at this local gem in Lafayette, LA. One word describes my experience each time I get the pleasure of stopping by; Wow! It really is mind-blowing. I still have yet to find a restaurant in Houston with such a creative menu of Asian fusion that actually surpasses my expectations of a unique dining experience and perfect pairing of ingredients that the Chef/owner, Dang Nguyen has concocted. What he does he does it well. Of all the unlikely places, Blu Basil delivers a compelling menu, phenomenal service and a cocktail menu that would make a mixologist blush! My comrade and I, stopped by on the way back from New Orleans. Located about 15 minutes off Interstate 10, it really is worth the detour. 1 star: Upon entering, I noticed that the decor is elegant and has the Asian accents to warm up the experience. We were greeted promptly by the host who sat us down quickly. She informed us that it was still happy hour so we took advantage of the discounted prices of some of their signature items and drinks. 3 star: Starters: I ordered the Bulgogi nachos. 5/5 Do not let the name fool you. It was more than just that. It was a party in each bite. Not only did it have Bulgogi, it also had crab meat and a slice of avocado to compliment the crunchy and savory bite! Genius! My partner ordered the Korean short ribs which was marinated to perfection! 5/5 We then ordered the fried shrimp on the skewers that had a crispy light panko batter! 4/5 And the Dang ribeye (named after the owner) was so delicious, it made me shed a foodie tear. 5/5 1 star: The waitresses was attentive without being a bugaboo. A fine line. Drinks stayed flowing as it should be. Overall, the experience exemplifies a wonderful experience. From the ambiance to the food and staff. Bravo!!!
