Probably the grossest dining experience of my life at Blu Island Bistro today. (Not entirely their fault but the handling of everything was bad) Went inside to eat and the only server immediately began complaining to us about how the other customers who just left were the weirdest f***ers ever and on and on cussing very unprofessional. (thinking gee the quality of workers has really gone down but ok). There was old salad and other food items all under our table and on the restaurant floor. We got sandwiches with sides(the sides came wrong). Food was just ok. Still didn't want to put a bad review though... But the kicker was when another customer alerted staff there was something in the middle of the room a few feet from our table and they should clean it up before someone slips. Turns out it was human feces! Our server continues cussing while at our table about how she's not cleaning that s*** up and that she's going to puke. Our server also let us know this is the SECOND time this has happened since she's worked there. Dirty, unprofessional, unsanitary and mediocre food that we wish we didn't digest after this experience. We will not be back. Ever. Owner did state that this waitress will no longer be representing this business. read more

Quaint spot for a delicious breakfast. The whiskey bacon was outstanding; so much flavor. The staff was so friendly and obliging. Putting together a couple of tables outside for our group. Our waitress, Brooke was helpful with her suggestions and fun to talk with. The only negative was two orders were incomplete; missing the eggs. I went to breakfast here with a friend this week. It had outdoor seating and for being near a busy road they made the outdoor area very welcoming. Server was a bit quirky and super friendly. Great selection for any and all preferences but the highlight was most certainly the pancakes. They had a special cinnamon, Carmel pecan that was out of this world. Great vibe and great food! I feel like you should be able to give no stars to restaurants!!!! This place should get none! We were seated by a waitress and that's it. People who were seated after got greeted got drinks and we got nothing. The waitress who sat us stood on the side conversating with another lady. We got up and took our service elsewhere! We had a craving for a fresh grouper sandwich and found it at the Blue Island bistro. Friendly staff, atmosphere was so so sitting outside on the road but the food was absolutely delicious. Grouper sandwich was fresh and grilled perfectly on a toasty brioche bun with homemade chips. We also shared the grouper tacos which had so much flavour of cilantro, spicy remoulade and avocado. Go here for breakfast! I eat out a lot and yet I am always so impressed by Blu Island Bistro. I have only been here for breakfast but always love it. My family is obsessed with their fresh baked cinnamon buns, beware these are extremely large and can be easily shared amongst three people. My brothers rave about their fluffy chocolate chip pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, and their French toast topped with fresh fruit. My dad loves their oatmeal loaded with toppings. I am more of a healthy eater so I was very happy with my eggs scrambled with roasted red peppers, feta cheese, Greek olives, tomatoes, and spinach. They offer fresh tomato slices on the side, YUM. Their rye bread is to die for, extremely flavorful. I also am a huge fan of their freshly brewed iced teas! Good service, cute atmosphere to eat outside! When looking for a middle ground spot to meet in Venice, we decided on Blu' Island Bistro and were glad we did. The location is unassuming and easily overlooked since I believe it is associated with a small motel, however the establishment is quaint and food is excellent. Our group met here for a late lunch. We were seated quickly and courteously. Since two of us arrived a couple minutes early we had time to take in our surroundings. The restaurant is adorable! Booths are covered by great prints and adorned with various throw pillows. A tiny poinsettia sat on each table for a hint of holiday cheer. All of the decor is deliberate and makes you forget you are only a stones throw from the busy Venice thoroughfare. For lunch, I ordered the Blu' Salad with grilled basso fish (+$3). It was delicious! Mixed greens, strawberries, blueberries, dried cranberries, walnuts, and strawberry vinaigrette - could have used a touch of blue cheese perhaps, but it was excellent. Around the table various sandwiches and salads were ordered, all received decent reviews. Our waitress was nice and kept the water/tea flowing. A great spot worth a return trip. However, note that they only do a breakfast/lunch service and close at 3:30pm most days (except Fri/Sat... I think). read more

Improved from our first visit, where the main courses were good but every one came with a side of pickled cabbage that didn't exactly compliment the entres. This time we came for lunch and were overwhelmed by the portion sizes. My cuban sandwich could have fed four people. Add a grilled halibut sandwich (very good), a side of hand cut fries (good) and thin, crispy onion rings (great) and we were ready to be rolled out. Have lots of delicious gluten-free options as well as traditional items. One of the best things on the menu is the blue Island bistro burrito. Something that they do is they offer a shared plates... Make this a must do while you are in Venice! The menu of unique protein choices drew us in & I'm so glad we went! We started w/ the grouper cheeks which were seasoned very well. Then I ordered the Caprese salad & my mom had the wedge salad...both of which were wonderful! For entrees we choose blackened sea scallops & the buffalo steak. Delicious! We came here thanks to Yelp recommendations and it didn't disappoint. The bloody marys were interesting and yummy - prepared with "wine-based liquors." Not too spicy for me (though my uncle couldn't stop sweating). I ordered the eggs benedict, which was cooked perfectly. Not too much hollandaise sauce and perfect, fluffy eggs. The "fries" were wedges and looked phenomenal, though I didn't try any myself. The onion rings were thin and crispy. And Jill was a delightful waitress. Overall a great experience.
