What a surprise this place was for lunch. Brooke was our waitress, she had personality plus. We enjoyed our banter with her. As for the food it was very good. We started with onion rings they came out hot with a nice coating on them and were very good. We both had burgers and fries, we asked for the fries to be extra crispy and they delivered. the burgers were cooked to perfection, juicy and tasty. It was Easter Sunday, we arrived to have brunch here, it was raining when we pulled up, but they had a nice roof that kept everything dry, they have good furniture and tables. After scanning the menu we saw the main things that looked good, Eggs benedict with crab and asparagus, Whiskey Bacon, and BLT with a fried egg, there were 2 more dishes that weren't an option before 11:00 unfortunately... Onion rings and fried green tomatoes. which was strange to me because there's a fried green tomato in the BLT. Anyways after our food arrived it looked fresh, the eggs benedict doesn't look very good with crab meat all over it but you could taste the crab and it came together well, the seasoned cheesy potato hash was a tasty side. My whiskey bacon was perfect, thick-cut, salty, the only bad thing i can say about it was the sauce which tasted burnt and wasn't sweet enough, i would prefer plain maple syrup. Lastly, the BLT with a fried egg, you can't taste most of the ingredients individually, then once you do they aren't strong flavors. The toasted bread was buttery but the garlic aioli didn't have any hint of garlic whatsoever, fried egg didn't have a taste, the fried green tomato was bland and mushy, and it was hard not ripping an entire piece of bacon out of the sandwich in one bite. Oh yeah the pecan smoked bacon, overrated, it only tasted regular (which is fine, don't try to add your own flavor to it though). I would only return here for the onion rings and fried green tomatoes, there's likely a better spot for your meal. read more

We tried Blu Island Bistro for our weekly breakfast date this week. The setup is cute and we chose to eat out on the patio. Even though it's right off the main road, there's a cool breeze and plants set up as a bit of a barrier that still makes the atmosphere nice and allows for a nice breeze. The server was great and sent me off with extra coffee for the road after I'd finished my latte. The food was average. I ordered the eggs Benedict with asparagus and lump crab meat. The crab was definitely from a can and the poached eggs were undercooked a little too much for my taste, so I only ate about half of it. It also seemed like seasoning the food was left entirely up to the patron, since it was served bland. Other items on the menu look like they would be great, but I don't think I'll be back to try them. read more

Awesome little restaurant which was a total surprise, especially since it is attached to a motel and doesn't look like anything special from the outside! I stopped in here for lunch as I was heading out of town and wish I had discovered it earlier. My group ordered a mix of lunch and brunch dishes and they all looked really good (comments confirmed they all tasted good). I had a 3-bacon omelette, one of their daily specials and it was delicious. Eggs were fluffy and the bacon was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I learned that they make the bacon on site and it's flavored with whiskey. One of my dining companions remarked that the onion rings were some of the best she had ever tried. Several of us ordered their berry iced tea and it was great too. The service was fast and friendly and the decor was Southern/nautical but cute and stylish enough (not dated). We heard from our server that they also make their own doughnuts on weekends. Sadly we were not able to try these, but if they are like everything else they make, I'm sure they will not disappoint. read more

While vacationing in Venice, we came across this small island gem. We saw that there were a lot of cars in the parking lot and looked at other Yelp reviews. We ordered pancakes for my nephew right away as he takes a long time to eat. The waitress who took our drink order was fantastic. She informed us that the other waitress would take the rest of the order. We placed our order of a grilled cheese, egg platter with turkey sausage with has browns and homemade biscuits. The grilled cheese arrived right away. The waitress messed up on a pancake order at the table next to us. As soon as we saw my nephew pancakes coming out they gave it to the table next to us. To compensate for doing that, they gave us the special pancake for free. Interesting combo but sadly, not what my little nephew wanted. By the time our pancakes and egg platter came out, my sister was done with her grilled cheese. Wait time was long, order was a bit messed up but once the food arrived it was well worth the wait. Pancakes were DELICIOUS! Egg platter was just what one would expect from a dinner. Hash browns were great and the biscuit was exquisite. We will definitely be back again. read more

Something a little nostalgic The music that played in the background was decades old but what I found nostalgic was seeing Cream Chipped Beef on the menu. I loved SOS when I was much younger but it is something I seldom see. Of course, that's what I ordered. I was as good if not better than I remembered, salty goodness on triangles of toast. To me it was a home run. I wish I could have had seconds. While my food was salty, our server was super sweet, checking on us several times. We sat inside out of the heat and wind. They were close to closing time by the time we finished so there was the bustle of activity associated with closing, but that didn't disturb us at all. We were staying in Venice and decided to try the Blu Island Bistro for brunch, primarily because we had our dog with us and saw it was dog friendly. I have to say this is the classic "You can't tell a book by its cover", as the food was outstanding. My wife had the spinach and goat cheese omelet with whiskey bacon and carried on how good the bacon and especially the sauce, plus she is not typically a bacon person. I had the Blu Burrito and it was so tasty and the salsa gave it a unique flavor. We also had a Bloody Mary with the upgraded version, which included bacon, dill pickle, 2 large olives and a pepperoncini with a lot of spices. It was outstanding. Since we were only going to be in town for a week I wasn't going to join their rewards club, but after eating decided we would be back at least a couple of times. read more

I was in the mood for huevos rancheros and it wasn't on the menu, so I picked the most Mexican item, and ask them to make it into an omelette for me. Not only did they do a fabulous beautiful job of it, it was absolutely delicious, and they complimented me on my creativity and told me they were going to use that omelette as a special in the future. The food is delicious. The prices are fair. The service is friendly, attentive and not overbearing. This was our first visit and most assuredly not our last. We had the "special " burger of the day which was a wrap with Swiss cheese, mushrooms and caramelized onions. The crab cake sandwich was one of the best we've tasted. Our server was very accommodating. She cheerfully switched out the bun for a croissant. There is a variety of sides to choose from including fries and onion rings. Went to the Blu Island Bistro for lunch and it was such a cute restaurant. It has an adorable atmosphere and the staff was above and beyond nice. I ate split the Banana French Toast and the BLT and fried egg sandwich. They were outstanding! The other people at our table had the philly cheesesteak and the shrimp tacos with onion rings. I was able to take a bite of everyone's food and I couldn't decide which meal was the best. I would absolutely recommend this stop if you are in the Venice area. I used to love this place, having visited multiple times over the past four years. But now it is awful. The waitress told me they have had TWO new owners in the past year, the most recent having started July '22. I had the blackened grouper tacos, my favorite. They were gross. GREASY, very little fish, undercooked. Place was filthy, service SLOW (maybe because help is so hard to find?). All in all a huge disappointment and I sure won't go back. Yes, they did recently receive a " best of" award...but I have to believe that was based on votes and happy customers prior to the new owners. read more

AMAZING! Best mimosa and Bloody Mary in town. We were promptly greeted, seated, and drinking while waiting for our food. As someone in the service industry I understand how difficult it can be to get to everyone immediately. Especially with the staffing shortage right now it can be difficult to give the service people have grown used to. Not for this place! Brooke was so great at helping everyone, making sure we were taken care of and being personable at the same time. I was thoroughly impressed with her service and the quality of the food/bev. We are new to Venice and are enjoying trying out local restaurants, this is my husband's favorite spot so far! We sat outside in the shaded breeze. We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. The sauce that came on the side was spicy and delicious. My husband ordered the corned beef hash, and I tried the Cuban sandwich. Everything was well presented and delicious. We absolutely loved this place. Pulling in, you may not realize how nice and inviting the interior is, but once inside, get ready for a treat. We were sat in the back room, which is decorated real cute. Anne Marie was our server and she was super attentive and friendly, making us feel just as special as the locals who dine here. In addition to the large breakfast menu, they also had 4-5 different specials too. I went with their award winning Banana french toast and it was amazing. Thinly sliced wheat toast (sounds odd, but it works!) dipped in banana batter and grilled to perfection, covered with thin banana slices and the option of maple syrup for $1. All day, yes. My daughter loved her buttermilk pancake and my wife had a sausage gravy biscuit with smoked sausage that was fantastic. Coffee was not as weak as some reported. I am a bit of a coffee snob too, but it was good enough (not thin, watery diner coffee) to get the job done. We were in and out in 45 minutes and very content. We purchased a gift certificate too, so we could allow my sister's boyfriend the opportunity to check out this local gem too.
