Food is expensive and not good, service is questionable. Was a long wait to be seated. A long wait to be served. I can't recommend it and will never go there again. The place looks dirty, outside is poorly lit and hard to maneuver parking lot. Over all a terrible experience. read more

Well just want to say it breaks my heart to leave this review because my husband and I absolutely love the seafood here,and all the waitresses have been amazing. BUT !! I took my family there last night for my daughter's birthday. My granddaughter ordered a hamburger cooked medium. Food came, looked amazing as usual except my granddaughter said her burger wasn't good. Said it was wattery. I thought that's strange. I've had the burgers before and they were top notch. So I tasted it and it was raw inside. Really red meat. Definitely tasted fleshy. So I told the waitress when she came it took a bit but she was really busy.Keep in my my granddaughter didn't want anything else to eat. She had some of her dad's steak some Mac and cheese and some hush puppies. Plus we were all about finished. So I showed the burger to the waitress, she apologized and look it back. She came back and told us that they said it tested medium and couldn't comp but would bring her another burger. Now first of all it's totally disrespectful to say that burger was medium. I don't care how they tested it. It was raw. They have eyes. Plus to be so tight over a burger was unbelievable. The food there is not cheap. And really!!! after taking a bite of a raw hamburger you think she wants another one. Of course they sent the waitress to tell us the news . I have been to lots of restaurants and sometimes things aren't right. But always a apology from the manager and a adjustment. I don't know that we will go back and it's a shame because we love the food and waitresses but the disrespect for customers that spend a lot of money at your establishment is very disappointing. Valley Smokehouse is a nice addition to Staunton. I visit family here a couple times a year and had been hearing about Valley Smokehouse so decided to try it on my visit. First I'll say - skip the mixed drinks. My margarita was sour. Almost undrinkable. On the plus side, all the food was good and portions were HUGE. Pricing for the seafood is high but what isn't high these day. Oysters and shrimp are lightly breaded. Both are good. Loved the steam shrimp as well. The shrimp are huge. They have a good variety of sides. Could use more ingredients in their salad but not bad. read more

My husband and I are always on the lookout for good restaurants! A friend recommended we drive the hour and a half to Staunton Va to try a restaurant called Vally Smokehouse. Boy are we glad we did!! It is hidden in a small strip mall and if you didn't know it is there you would totally miss it. But take my word for it don't miss this one! The food at this restaurant is top tier for sure. We had the all you can eat seafood which was a special on the Thursday evening. Oysters and Shrimp two ways. It was absolutely delicious and well worth the price of the platter. Sides were also very good. The service was good but the ambiance was somewhat underwhelming which is ok as long as the quality of food stays up. We will definitely be back to support this little gem in the middle of a small city in Va. read more

It's a nice local spot - with some good Southern faves on the menu - BBQ and all you can eat shrimp and seafood options but I wouldn't make a special trip. I believe they have live music sometimes but not the night we visited for my moms birthday dinner with a party of 10. We chose simple items from the menu with most people ordering the fried oyster platters - a good deal of you choose all you can eat for $25 and eat 2-3 servings. I chose the pork bbq sandwich with two sides and a small side of slaw. They brought me a spicy sweet bbq sauce for it upon request. The baked beans tasted like Bush's, their greens were good, the smoked bbq was a bit dry and plain but the buttered bun was soft and warm and delicious. The sweet tea was really good as were the hush puppies with fresh warm melty butter for dipping. They brought my mom a complimentary cheesecake when they found out it was her birthday and the staff and front of the house manager were all really nice and friendly. It has a real comfy homey vibe inside and has plenty of seats along wooden high bar tops built into the wall on one side, a raised stage with tables on the other and main seating and booths in the middle. Plenty of parking in an attached lot and clean restrooms. Service is a solid 4.5, Food would be a 2 so they're a 3.5 in my book. read more

In the mood for fried oysters. These little nuggets keep calling my name. It's a close race between smoky green beans and fried oysters as the object of my affection this evening. I recommend them both as 'must haves.' Ordered Alaskan King Crab with clarified butter, steamed shrimp, fried shrimp, stewed tomatoes, Cole slaw, loaded potatoes, side salad and the biggest carrot cake slice I have ever seen! Hush puppies came gratis. Everything was tasty, as expected. But the fried oysters and smoky green beans are the superstars! We arrived just before the doors opened at 4:00 p. m. and only had to wait a few minutes in the queue. After leaving, I realized I had left my sunglasses and called to ask them to be held for me. Upon my return, our server immediately recognized me and came to see what I needed. After I told her, she hunted down my glasses and had me on my way. It meant so much to me that she recognized me, approached me and wanted to help. She did a great job while we are eating at the table - but this was excellent service AFTER the tip! Due to covid capacity restrictions our wait was 45 minutes for a party of 6. It was expected so not a problem. The problem was when our buzzer went off we sent our oldest to get seated and was told we had to wait 10 more minutes because they been called us. That was incorrect and my husband immediately informed the waitress of their mistake. To correct their mistake we was given 2 appetizers of our choice. Let's say all was forgiven! Lol. For our 2 appetizers we got the bang bang shrimp and loaded potato wedges. Both was amazing! My favorite had to be the potato wedges....but the shrimp came in at a close 2nd. For dinner my husband had the tomahawk steak dinner with mac n cheese and wedges. The steak was juicy and flavorful. No steak sauce was needed...just dip it back in its natural juices on the plate. Sides was good too but the highlight of course was the massive steak! I had the Steak and seafood. I chose fried oysters as my seafood. The oysters was very good. I didn't even use hot sauce to eat them. Lightly fried with just the right seasoning. Wish I could of had more. The steak was well done as requested. Was only able to eat 2 bites due to eating the oysters and appetizers....so yeah my eyes was bigger than my stomach! Lol Kid 1 &2 had the crab and shrimp bucket with fried apples and potato wedges. Yes it was large enough for 2 people to eat! Crab legs was well seasoned. Shrimp was cooked to the perfect C shape. So not overly done like some restaurants. Kid 3 had the rib dinner with fried apples and mac n cheese. Ribs were falling off the bones. The apples were peeled so the fired apples was just like she liked it. Normally restaurants leave the skin of the apples on...she loved it! Kid 4 had the wicked fried chicken. He enjoyed it. Described it as "juicy" with a kick. Over all our experience was pretty good. Started off rocky but immediately went uphill from there. Food was good, service was good! Our waitress, Caleh, did an amazing job turning things around! This amazing local place is tucked away in a strip mall on West Beverly Street in Staunton. Basic decor - nothing fancy. The long line out of the door is all you need to know about the food and service! Large portions of delicious barbecue, shrimp and crab legs! And I will say the shrimp is amazing! The cheesiest Mac and cheese you will ever find anywhere. If you opt for the batter dipped shrimp I can say the coating is light and crisp. The sides are pretty much standard fare for a barbecue joint and I can highly recommend the cole slaw. The service is wonderful and friendly. And the price is right. We went on a Thurs evening for the all you can eat seafood. Wow! Portions were enormous, I struggled to finish the first plate and was given a to go box! My husband ate all his first plate but was too full for more. The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked, fried and steamed. The oysters were amazing! Large and tender, not over cooked. Sides were tasty. I had salad and BBQ macaroni salad. My husband had green beans and mashed potatoes. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We all had a laugh when she offered us dessert. I have been to Valley Smokehouse numerous times and have always been pleased with the food and service. The Thursday night shrimp and oyster special is outstanding. The shrimp and oysters are lightly breaded and fried. The shrimp are big. The oysters are crispy outside yet moist on the inside. The prime rib is very good and well seasoned. It has a mild smoke flavor and served medium rare (pink). I like the macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and mixed greens. My wife likes the apples. The servers are attentive and friendly. We tried this place the other night for the first time and was disappointed. We ended up not being seated for 30 mins past our quoted hour wait. Have been going here since it opened and it seems to be going down hill. Last night was a big disappointment. I usually have the crab or ribs but wanted to try something different and ordered the brisket. It is only available as a sandwich and the meat was 1- dry 2-tough and 3- sliced too thick to eat as a sandwich. I asked for BBQ sauce and was given a bottle of colored water. I tried to use a knife and fork but the water ran all over the paper liner and made a big mess. I took it home for the dogs and probably won't be back. read more
