We had the crab cakes and the breakfast Sandy. Both were very good! Potatoes were awesome, biscuits are fresh and amazing! Only reason I'm not giving five stars is it took a very long time to get our food even though we were the first people there. We normally just don't review instead of posting a negative one but this place left a bad taste in our mouths. Maybe they were short staffed or just a bad day but we got really slow service and parts of our food was cold when we got it including our toast (bleh, cold toast). The waitress never checked in and asked how we were doing, and I feel like the food waited a while before coming out. It may have been good if it was hot but bad service and cold food overshadowed our experience. I'm surprised it's so well reviewed. read more

Absolutely delicious, and the staff are wonderful. I have lots of dietary restrictions, and they happily modified the fish tacos for me, which were fantastic. There is a cute back patio from which you can hear the ocean. Very nice place with a lot of small town coast character! read more

I have eaten here twice and it is amazing. This is a tiny restaurant in a tiny beach town - can't be more than 5-6 tables. Both times it was busy but we managed to get a table quickly. My first visit was for breakfast, and it was the most delicious thing I have ever had. House-made everything right down to the jam, served promptly, hot, and just as ordered. The breakfast experience I have been looking for! My second visit was for lunch, I had the club sandwich, which was delicious, no problem with special requests, hot and prompt. The service is friendly, the kitchen is open so you can see the small staff working hard on their amazing food, and the prices are great - oh, and the ocean view? That's gravy. Did I mention their gravy? SO GOOD. The coffee is self-serve, with a mish-mash of mugs that feels homey, and I have zero problem getting it myself so I never wait (not that the attentive servers here would ever make anyone wait) If you are anywhere near this place ever - EAT HERE. read more

Amongst the 4 us, we had 2 of the sea garden sandwiches one with fries on the side and one with clam chowder, as well as the crab and shrimp tacos. The sandwiches were pretty good. The crab taco was tasty too. The shrimp taco was a 3.5/5 compared to the other stuff we tried. The place has an excellent view of oceanside. Definitely a come back if visiting Oceanside. read more

I have eaten here many times when visiting Oceanside. Always a really great breakfast and today did not disappoint! Had the Pacific Scramble and there was no shortage of shrimp and crab, mixed with spinach,cheese and topped with fresh chopped tomatoes. Love their crispy fried potatoes. However this time I did not particularly like the biscuit. Something is different about them. So so flavor and didn't seem freshly baked. They could also invest a bit more in their cutlery. We live in the area, and finding a good breakfast / lunch spot is not easy. Most local spots serve the same boring stuff. This spot has a great location overlooking the beach, creative and from scratch dishes , good service and good coffee. Very good breakfast and a view to die for. Small place, but we beat the rush. We enjoyed the self serve coffee, mostly because we'd been camping and this was very good coffee. The country benedict was spot on. The great white breakfast burrito had a half pound of bacon inside. The crab cakes and eggs were perfect with the ocean view. Disappointing experience. We thought the food and service were both 'meh', especially for the prices. Didn't find the beer very cold; clam chowder was bland, to us on the same level as warmed up can soup. Thought the crab tacos were nothing-special and way overpriced. Fish tacos were pretty good. Great service, very good self-serve coffee but the Crab Cakes should be retitled to "Crap Cakes" or at the very least "Expensive Bread Crumb" cake. Based on the server's reaction she has heard this many many times before. There was no offer to make any adjustment to the bill. If you like $15 bread then you'll like the crabcakes at the Blue Agate. I wish Roseanne's was open for breakfast. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by here for brunch. As you probably know, there's not a lot of options for restaurants. I got the crab cakes and that was delicious. That was the best part of the dish. The potatoes and biscuit I could live without. The scrambled eggs was a little overcooked. My boyfriend got the berry lemonade and that was good. They even asked if we wanted a refill before we left with no extra charge. He ordered the Pacific Scramble and it was alright. It seemed that he regretted not getting they crab cakes. read more

The place we stayed at has a full kitchen, but since it was our mini getaway we decided to grab breakfast. The cafe was clean, great view, friendly staff, but the food was horrible. Everything we got was like eating cardboard, the biscuits were like a lump of 30 day old dough and the grave was like a paste of cement, eggs were rubbery.... I'm not sure how exactly they've stayed open with the kind of food they served us. Won't be back at all. read more

Breakfast by the sea? How perfect. Crab cakes melting in your mouth, crispy little red potatoes sizzling beside two perfectly basted eggs with steaming coffee in a mermaid mug. Yep, it's that perfect. Not much room in there though, so get your heinie in a chair early. And don't rely on their website for "real" opening times. Love this place. Git yer own coffee, it's around the corner, self serve. And you'd better get in early to order a homemade biscuit made by the mama of the crowd. They really are so good. They have a small breakfast menu which I appreciate. I'm too damn hungry to choose from a large menu in the morning. Everyone is very nice and accommodating. An unplanned stop on a road trip up the coast, this little spot was a true highlight from our recent trip to Oregon. I have Celiac, and it isn't easy in Chicago to just stop in and eat gluten free. The owner / server at Blue Agate was SO nice and accommodating for this -- all of the tacos on the menu are naturally gluten free, and are the salad options. I ordered a Cobb salad, unique because it had fresh-from-the-bay shrimp and crab on it. Delicious. And my husband ordered the pulled pork tacos. These had shredded granny smith apple on top, and I had to give them a try. We ordered another platter, and almost ordered a platter to go. RIDICULOUSLY good. Like we didn't speak, we just "MMMMM"ed and stuffed our faces good. Highly recommend -- A+! read more

Blue agate cafe is nothing fancy, it's very simple. I got here at about 9 and ended up getting my food at 945. Our waiter was very nice and funny. The chicken fried steak I order was decent and it had good flavor, but it was pan fried instead of fried. I would prefer fried. Though, it was still good and I'll be coming back. read more
