Jose's Special at Blue Agave was a great choice. It's a well-balanced meal with protein, rice, salad, guacamole, and flour tortillas, so it felt filling without being too heavy. What really stood out, though, was the staff. They were warm, attentive, and went out of their way to check on us, chat a bit, and keep the chips and salsa coming. There's also plenty of seating, and I loved the Mexican-themed interior decor, which made the place feel even more welcoming. I came here with a group of 4 on a weekend night for dinner. My friend lives in Gahanna and we all were in the mood for some margaritas - this was a great spot that she found nearby! I am super picky about guac and we finished it right off!!! For my meal, I ordered three Steak Tacos. As I started eating, I had noticed something seemed off and they had forgotten the cheese on my tacos! (Can't forget the cheese!!!) Bad trip in to Blue agave. The host was amazing and that was about it. Food took a while to get. That is unusual here, even on a busy day. Today, it wasn't packed...the house was 25% full., so Im unsure what the long delay was. Meanwhile we ate complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like it had zero cilantro and zero onion. What we compared it to is : if you took just plain canned diced tomatoes and zipped them in the food processor and served just that. It was not good. There was little cilantro and onion, if at all. It took so long to get the food, we ate the entire bowl of chips -hardly touching the salsa. They nicely asked if we wanted more. We declined on that. Lol Our dinner was hit and miss. We ordered all a la carte items: The chicken chimichangas and chicken enchilada were excellent.... They had good flavor. The chicken was perfect. Good size for a la carte. Had some fresh veggies inside. Yum. Although my chimi had hardly any cheese topping, which was odd as my husband's had a nice amount. . My husband's chicken tamale was disappointing- hardly any chicken in it.. the side of rice I got was flavorless and a bit dry. Our issue here today wasn't the slow service or the delay in the food, or the quality of food. It was the bill: pay attention to what the menu says your food costs. Every single item on our bill was charged incorrectly. No joke. All but one item was charged too much and one item was charged 20 cents too little. Two items were billed as an entree even though ordered al a carte, but even that pricing was over charged as well. It was so weird and a bit frustrating. We ordered five items that should of come out to 22.75. Our bills total was 27.15. When I saw only four prices on the bill (with no item designation) I went to decipher it, which is hard as there was also no itemization of what the pricing corresponded to. We found "none" of the pricing on the bill was correct. I nicely explained this and it was adjusted with an apology... but a guest should never be put in this situation, as its embarrassing to have to say... "can I see the menu again" do math.... then say "uh, my bill is five dollars too much." Blue Agave... I want to like you.... I want to give a good review. Came in for lunch and got a blue agave bowl, and they brought me out a fajita bowl with soggy rice, crunchy unseasoned zucchini and no sauce..upon request of sauce, gentleman brought me out COLD sauce to put on bowl. Surprised to see an average 3 stars for this place. While I do understand it is not the best in Central Ohio, I do not feel it is not a 3 star either. Chips are hot/fresh & the salsa is homemade. The guac is made tableside, which is a nice touch. I have never had a bad meal here & the portions are definitely generous. The decor, is inviting & the bathrooms, I have always found to be clean. Service is generally good. One knock is the parking. There are many small businesses here & parking can be a hassle at times, especially in bad weather. A friend had a doc appointment in New Albany and picked a place nearby for a group of us to meet. Living in Gahanna and having been to Blue Agave in Westerville, it was convenient and I knew I'd like the food. I think there ended up being about 8 of us, meeting during the week for lunch around noon. I was about the 5th person to arrive and found them right away. There were plenty of open tables and room at their table for me! I had checked out the menu ahead of time as I always do. I knew there was a salad or two for me to pick from. The waiter took our drink order and I stuck with water. Being in a big group, I wasn't confident I'd get my money's worth on refills if I ordered a soda. We waited for everyone to arrive to put in our food order. And our waiter was ready as soon as the last arrived. I went with a basic salad - steak for a change. I knew the quality of the steak wouldn't be great and they didn't bother asking how I wanted it cooked. I figured the steak would be in strips and it turned out it was. Our order came our in a decent amount of time. And I forgot to mention the complimentary chips and salsa. We each got our own little bowl for salsa so no worries of others double -dipping. I, however, don't do chips as I'd eat too many if I ate just one. Mindless munching is far too easy for me. And I don't need the carbs. They did have a hot salsa available as one of the other ladies requested it. She did confirm that it was HOT! I was pleasantly surprised when my salad arrived at the amount of steak it had. It was rather generous which makes me happy. There was a fair amount of greens but not much avacado - or much else really. Tomatoes is the only other thing I remember. I ordered it without dressing as they didn't have oil and vinegar. It was fine and not too dry. The other ladies were retired but I work. So I had to leave as soon as the checks came out. For a salad and water with tax and tip - I was out the door for $20. That's about what I'd pay elsewhere at any other seated restaurant. Would I return - sure would! Was there fo lunch. A lady and I started talking. Had a great conversation. She was so kind and bought my lunch. I was so surprised. She left and I continued to eat. A male manager was at the bar, where we were sitting. He came over to me and said just because she paid your lunch does not mean you do not have to tip. WHAT! He leaned against the bar right across from me and glared at me. Very intimidating. I'm sure she did tip for me. Him being a manager should not be so concerned about tips. What has happened to Blue Agave? When they first opened, the flavors were fresh, authentic and had a real "pow" of spice. Four of us met there on Friday for dinner. For starters the chips that came out were fine, BUT the salsa looked and tasted like "tomato sauce" right out of a can (no onions, no peppers, no chunks of tomato, no salsa...no flavor). How can you screw up salsa? That was the tasteless (salt-less too by the way) foreshadowing for the rest of the meal. I have never had to add salt to Mexican beans and rice. NO cook or color on the steak fajitas - more like the meat was steamed, vegetables more raw than cooked. None of the four of us could believe how bland ALL of our food was. Not sure any of us will go back for another "meh" meal. Lots of other great Mexican restaurant options around the area...this will be " a pass" for us in the future. Food was awful this evening . Tasted like unseasoned beef and boiled chicken in my burrito. I've had better Mexican food at Taco Bell, they actually season the meat. My Wife hated the beef on the tostada and the chip salsa tasted like tomato juice ketchup. Service was awful and they charged me more then the check. I would give this restaurant 3.5 stars if possible. We were able to get right into this restaurant without a wait on a Thursday at 7:00pm. My favorite part of this restaurant was the fresh tortillas. They have a tortilla press and you can see the employees making the tortillas. They were delicious! I also really liked the chicken fajitas and if I go back I will order fajitas 100%. I got the chicken mole enchiladas. I did not like these and wouldn't order again. I thought the chicken had little flavor and wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (I prefer spicier sauces with more of a tomato flavor so that is probably a personal thing and nothing against the actual sauce itself). There also wasn't any cheese besides the little bit you can see on the top. I was also hoping the refried beans would have a bit more flavor. The inside of the restaurant is casual and clean looking. Our waitress was not very attentive, did not really listen to our requests. My wifes fajitas came out, did not have the tortillas with it. We waited and waited for our waitress to come back around so she could eat. We ended up having to ask the waiter of the next table for the tortillas. I ordered some extra enchiladas, the plate came out and was missing part of the order (back to waitress not listening) All in all it was 5 star food and 2 star service. Would have been 4 Stars based on previous experiences, but our experience today was awful. I will not go back. They had a limited menu for Mother's Day that was not advertised. We went there for specific menu items and none of those were on the limited menu. There was only 1 vegetarian item on the limited menu. The manager agreed to let our kids order two bean burritos (probably because thos were part of other choices on the menu). The waitress still didn't want to let us order that and had to go back to the twice more about it. The order came out wrong still after that. One was a cheese enchilada. My veggie fajitas didn't have any seasoning and the sour cream wasn't on the side like I asked. The waitress didn't come back for a very long time after we got the food so we couldn't even get it corrected. It was either eat it or let it just get cold. The overall experience was stressful for what should have been an easy, nice Mother's Day lunch. Dined here for the first time because they had a Restaurant Week deal. I tried their SOPA DE TORTILLA, POLLO LOCO, and EL VAQUERO FRIED ICE CREAM (I'm wondering now if Agave is owned by the same people who own El Vaquero around town), all for just one $20 bill. The "sopa" wasn't that great: too salty and way too many tortilla strips. The "pollo loco" was very good. I'd get that again if I came back. The side dishes, Mexican rice and refried beans, were no better and no worse than the sides I've tasted in a Banquet frozen meal. And the fried ice cream was acceptable. The atmosphere is cheery, though, personally, I like it a tad darker. That's just preference though. And the staff was friendly and dutiful. Came in here on a Saturday evening around 7pm after catching the nutcracker show at the McCoy center. The place was packed! Luckily we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Once we got seated, chips and salsa were brought to the table. The house salsa tasted fresh. Tortilla chips were standard. We also ordered the fresh guacamole and queso dip. Guacamole was flavorful and you can add or delete ingredients to customize. Queso was white queso and very standard queso. I ordered the chori pollo. It was a good size portion not too abundant how other places usually have this dish. The chicken was well cooked and the chorizo was not too spicy. My wife had the spinach burrito which had spinach, peppers, avocado, zucchini. She said it was good. The service was very good, especially with how busy it was in the there. Cute place with kitschy Mexican decor. Food was decent but the host and kitchen staff were rude AF. Host acts like seating me and providing a menu was the most excruciating part of his day. After ordering and waiting a while, the waiter came by and asked "where's your food?" When I said I was still waiting he went to check. While he's checking a server delivers my plate. 45 seconds later the server reappears waiving a slip of paper in my face saying "you have your food, YOU HAVE YOUR FOOD!" In general I really like this restaurant but my experience definitely depends on who my server is. There is one in particular who is horrible and whenever we see that she is our server we know we are in for it. But besides that the food is really good and this is a staple restaurant for my family. I always get the carnitas lunch which comes with 2 sides (I do double rice) and 3 tortillas. There is an extra charge for ordering a lunch at dinner but it's still cheaper than the dinner. Margaritas are always good as is the cheese dip. I really like their desserts here, I usually go with the churros. I've also tried the sopapilla and flan and both are also good. read more

We found a gem. Admittedly, it is right across the street from our veterinarian.  Right there and last night was our first time....and not our last.   SUPER covid impressive from a safety perspective. The staff super attentive. On point. Very personable. The drinks fantastic. Corona Premiere draft could been a little colder but it was still soo good. I like my beer freezing. ;) Chicken fajitas for two - HUGE. Huge bonus that has us raving about this place - black beans are an option.  YES!!!! Their veggies are fresh. Rice is fantastic. Queso with chorizo awesome. We will be back.  We felt safe. We had a semi healthy meal without breaking the calorie bracket and had fun. My friend and I decided to do carry out during restaurant week to support a local restaurant and trying to stay as safe as we can. Ordering was super easy and the person who took my order was very nice and accommodating as best as he could to my desired pick up time (they were slammed). My friend ordered the guacamole, fresh avocado burrito, and fried ice cream for dessert. I ordered the nachos, iguana, and el vaquero chocoflan. When I arrived I was promptly greeted and my food was ready to go. I noticed that my friends ice cream had the wrong topping and then were able to fix it immediately so I barely had a weight. The food smelled so delicious it took everything in me to not dig in right then and there! My friend loved her meal and kept saying how good every bite was. For the nachos I loved the fresh chips and the ground beef was seasoned well. The Iguana was delicious and the beef and chicken were both seasoned to perfection. However I set aside part of the main course to make room for dessert and I'm so glad I did! The dessert was amazing! The fresh whipped cream, plus a nice dense but not overly sweet base chocolate cake layer topped with a smooth and creamy flan top layer which when combined was perfection in every bite. Even though it was a long trek to get there, I definitely wouldn't mine getting other dishes off their regular menu for flavorful Americanized Mexican food! read more

We ordered takeout through their website on Mother's Day during the quarantine. I have enjoyed my meals every time I've eaten here and when we took our parents and our kids, they've all enjoyed it too in the past. So my wife picked this place as her Mother's Day meal. I'm glad she did! I was surprised at how easy their online ordering website was to use. We had our food ordered within minutes! Since it was a holiday, I decided to place our dinner order around lunchtime (you can schedule your pick-up time). When I arrived at the restaurant, the staff were all very friendly. I appreciated the system they had set up. I told them my name and my order was waiting on a table, using a number system. I picked up my order with hardly any contact with in the restaurant. When I arrived home, our food was still warm. We did need to warm up the queso we ordered as a side. Chips were provided. The queso was amazing! My favorite queso I've ever had is from another local restaurant out of Columbus, but my wife and I agreed that this may have been the exact same recipe- better than I remember! Our main dishes were delicious as well. Just as good as when we've eaten in the restaurant. We'll definitely order take out here again. I don't normally leave reviews but blue agave has a lot of 3 star reviews and I don't know why. We got the chicken fajitas for two and it was absolutely delicious. Their tortillas are home made everything is sizzling hot and there is more than enough for two . We always sit outside but the inside looks really nice. I read reviews saying the service is bad but we've had 3 or 4 different people and they've all been really nice and if ask for George you'll meet one of nicest people in the world.
