Went there this morning and loved it. We originally went to stilly because we had been there before and knew we liked it. Lucky for us they were at capacity with a wait. Blue Bird Cafe was able to accommodate us and right away we felt at "home". The ladies working were the absolute sweetest, especially to my 2 year old son. They had toy trucks for him to play with and he was in heaven. Their hot chocolate was delicious! I can't wait to go back and try their chowder and waffles. You have to know that this is a local family business that has been in Arlington forever and has a wonderful local following and serves large portions of cafe style food. With that said my experience is that the service has always been warm and prompt, the food hearty and delicious and the space clean and welcoming. If you don't like something just tell them! They will always make it right. Too much oil on your hash browns? Tell them - gravy too thick ask for it to be thinned - eggs not right? Tell them! It's really that simple. Beware if you are not of Caucasian descent, we were treated like sub-humans who didn't deserve to be served edible food. We attempted to enjoy a Sunday brunch and were sorely mistaken when we chose to eat here. We were asked to sit in the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms, when there were plenty of open booths near the front. We were given glares as we walked in and were seated, no silverware was provided until we requested it. Our children chose cinnamon rolls and they were served and inedible. They were so hard that a knife trying to cut through made a crunching sound. A cinnamon roll should NEVER be crispy. We told the server who went to the manager who said to heat it back up "we will not be giving them another one." We decided to leave at this point because they clearly did not want nor deserve our patronage. I can only imagine that the stares and poor service has something do with us being a biracial couple with multiracial children. Great way to uphold the already well-known stereotype that Arlington harbors blatant racism. Do better Blue Bird! You should be ashamed of yourselves for disappointing children and displaying despicable behavior. NEVER again! read more

Be careful what you order and who is cooking, lately it seems like they got a new cook or something. Been going there for 15 years some stuff I used to like just is not any good anymore. Had a lot of burnt toast terrible bacon, and really greasy hash browns and there French fries are not very good. Had a few of there new burgers on the menu and they were kinda a dude. Some food its good and some is not I give them a A for effort but somebody needs to go take a class at chef school just to learn that little extra gourmet flavor to burgers and other dushes ECT. read more

So I have been here many times over the last 30 years. It has never been confused with a restaurant that has any measure of class or higher standard of service. It is no surprise today as well. 24 minutes to get a menu another 12 to place a order. and here is the best part, we the only one of two tables they have. Now mind you I did get to enjoy to Personal Conversation the cook and Waitress had. And so the food, well let's say after a long drawn out wait it is well missing. So many three and four star reviews from visitors to the Bluebird Cafe who only had good things to say?! C'mon, people! My experience there was everything I could've hoped for from a small town restaurant. I suppose the decor leaves a little bit to be desired, but my club sandwich and clam chowder were better than I expected they would be (quite delicious) and reasonably priced. And it's not as if I was there expecting to have my culinary mind blown. . . The best part was how quickly our food came. I've waited longer at fast food restaurants. Seriously, less than five minutes. Nothing about my experience at bluebird was anything less than wonderful, so I won't hesitate to give them five stars. Sure, it wasn't the MOST incredible dining experience I've ever had, but the food was served hot, fresh, fast, affordable, and tasty. On an excursion to explore Arlington I stopped here and had a bacon cheeseburger and fries; it was uneventful. Blue Bird Cafe seemed like a great small town diner, but the burger & fries were surprisingly expensive considering the size of burger and quality of fries. To me, part of the charm of small town diners is the small price so I probably won't be back to the Blue Bird Cafe for lunch. However, if I'm in Arlington at breakfast time, I will try the Blue Bird's breakfast---there were lots of old people in this diner which usually indicates good breakfast is served :-) read more

This place is a must if you decide to make a pit-stop in the tiny downtown of Arlington. Despite the obvious reasons to feel inclined, I seriously cannot hate on this place. I seriously feel like judging right now, but alas, I cannot. Let's love its quirkiness for all it's worth. I used to love this place. I'm not sure if it recently changed owners or they got new staff, but this was my last visit to the bluebird. The staff was far too busy chatting amongst themselves to remember part of our order. We had to as 3 times before my husband was served is iced tea, drinks went empty for at least 10-15 minutes even after trying to get their attention several times. Our sever actually walked right past us, looked at me w/my empty glass in hand and kept walking. Some of the prices are crazy. They charged me 0.50 for 1 small slice of tomato on my fish sandwich. I don't mind paying for an add on, but you can get a whole tomato for the price I was charged. Food is fair, but not for the price. 13.00 for a few bits of fish and fries is ridiculous. We drove about a half hour from where we had been shopping as we have been to the Bluebird Cafe a few times and enjoyed the meals. The town seemed pretty busy but it was a Saturday and now December. We waited 15 mins along with others and once the greeter came over we decided to sit at the counter as otherwise it would be another 25 mins. The place was full like the other times and the waitress was prompt with the coffee and friendly - explaining the town had something going on every week like the ice rink they have up. After about 45 mins I suggested we cancel and go to Burger King but we waited it out. After an hour our breakfasts arrived and my toast would be coming. My eggs, potatoes and bacon were fine. My boyfriend's pancakes were cold and his sausage was black from being burned. His eggs were ok, but not hot. We weren't asked how our meals were and we didn't complain or ask for a remake as they were so far behind. My toast never came so when the bill came I asked the waitress to 'take something off'. I expected at least $2 and that is what she did. But, no quick apology. The meal was over $15 and I didn't get to enjoy having toast which I love so it would have been nice to see a bigger discount. A 1/4 of my meal was missing and 2 out of 3 items were not good on my boyfriend's plate. We left a good tip and she ran the card in front of us. We didn't get a thank you. They knew they would be extra busy in December, the wait was long, our food wasn't good and a little expensive. We won't be back. I grew up in Arlington and have eaten at the Blue Bird a number of times. I was back in town a couple weeks ago and went there for dinner. It was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the breaded veal, and I think that was a mistake. The veal its self was ok, but there was too much breading that was soggy. The gravy on it was strait from a can, and on the cold side. The vegetables were old cooked carrots. The waitress forgot our rolls, and the desert that come with our meal. If you do come here, skip the dinner entries. The hamburgers are not bad, and they are reasonably priced. I'm sorry to see a hometown restaurant sink so far. read more

It's a quaint and comfortable diner experience. Not much has changed since I first walked in in 1974. Friendly staff and generous portions of food. The brand of chili is tasteless. The location is a bit uncomfortable being surrounded by taverns. Back in the day the tavern folk stayed inside. Now with WA smoking restrictions you have to walk past the inebriation and clouds of smoke. Once inside you're safe. I'd recommend a visit, on a Sunday when the tavern traffic is slower. The Blue Bird serves up a great atmosphere with friendly service! TL:DR They're awesome. Get the blueberry pancakes. I am a fan of the typical "American" breakfast with eggs, bacon, and pancakes and the Blue Bird does not disappoint! We always stop in here Saturday morning on the way to our cabin and the staff is so friendly! We are usually greeted by name! It's a seat yourself atmosphere followed promptly by water and silverware and then another beverage of your choice if you so desire. The kitchen is pretty quick as well! Treat yourself to some blueberry pancakes! Before you presume to think that little tub of butter that was delivered won't cut it, believe me, it's plenty. The cakes are moist enough with all those blueberries in there, the butter is for flavor if you choose; as is the maple syrup! Definitely a place that I would recommend to my friends and family alike! Be careful if you are coming in around 8:30-10AM on the weekends, they get busy. So last update for this place. Food is okay, at least now if you ask for bacon to NOT be burnt, it's not. That's an improvement. I've been here a few times and not kidding had traumatic experiences every time. My first bad experience was hair in my food and the most recent experience was I had ordered eggs over medium and the eggs were covered in a thick clear filmy type stuff. Only figured out it wasn't normal AFTER taking a bite - i had originally just thought the whites were maybe slightly wet. No idea what it was but it was thick and not normal... My veggie omelette had hardly any veggies in it and the egg was so thin around them it didn't seem like a omelette at all. For 13.50 I would expect Way more. The four green peppers were in big chunks and not cooked. Terrible omelette. My husbands burger looked like it was made for a child, small and not much there. To top it off the service was terrible. The waitress didn't check on us once. We had to ask for silverware, napkins, water and ice tea. The place wasn't busy, so no excuse for poor service . One star for the decor. Very cheap pricing if you don't get a lot of food. Service and the waitress were so sweet! My one complaint is the kitchen staff or manager im not sure, were not very understanding of food allergies. I had ordered something that came with toast, and asked if I could sub for sausage or something like that. The waitress was super sweet and said she didn't see a problem with it. She then came back a few minutes later saying ThAts she's sorry and They don't do that. I then had to order everything separate instead of a combo meal, making it kinda expensive. Very excited when we walked in to see the special was a seafood Benedict. Despite that I was famished and could have probably eaten anything, this was the worst seafood Benedict. First, it was drowning in hollandaise sauce. The food was served in a dish and the sauce was filled to the top. Secondly, the crab was imitation which was horrifying to me as living in the PNW I would never eat imitation seafood. Lastly, the English muffin, soaked in sauce hadn't even been toasted. I would give this place 3.5 stars if it were for the quality of the food. My cheeseburger although very light in portion, was delicious. The house sauce on the burger was incredible. The service here however, is a little more than lacking. It seems to be a family owned and operated restaurant. Not only run by mom and pop, but three if not four generations in the restaurant all at once. When I came in, there was nobody else in the restaurant. There were four employees standing around talking to each other. Not one of them acknowledged me as they continued on talking. I cleared my throat and asked if they were open. The young teenage girl, who was in the kitchen walked out towards the front of the house to say hello and offer me a seat. Mind you there were three adults standing but ten feet away from me, just chatting while hanging around the register and booth. One of the adults was an elderly woman. I could tell she was the long time owner, as there is a large framed photo of a young version of her and her military husband on the wall. Throughout my meal she walked by me a number of times to reset silverwear, stock condiments, etc. Not once did she offer to refill my glass, let alone even say hello, acknowledge me or even look at me. She didn't smile, and seemed to make an effort to ignore me when I smiled and nodded at her. What annoyed me was that she would be happy and smiling as she answered and conversed with the other employees there. But her expression would change every time I tried to wave her down to order. She just walked right on by me like I wasn't there. The only person who gave me any sort of attention as I was dining in was the teenage girl, who was so young she must have been a sophomore in high school. She was also busy running back and forth into the kitchen, so it was hard to flag her down at times. Halfway through my meal my soda was empty. I turned to wave somebody down, but the group just stood there still chatting with each other ignoring me. After a while of this I was clearly getting vexed. The cook who had made my meal was catching onto this, so he came over to finish serving me and rang up my bill. He mustered up half a smile as he saw I was completely fed up, and asked "is there anything else we can get you today?"......after an hour and twenty minutes of entering an EMPTY dining room I was finally offered service by the house without having to ask for it. I paid without leaving a tip....something I haven't done in many years. After my meal I made my way across the street to a thrift store to do some shopping. I spoke to the thrift store employee about the cafe across the street since I had read it is a local favorite and has been around within the same family for many decades.....I asked if he knew the old lady and why she was so grumpy. He told me he has had similar experiences there...and that she just never greets or talks to anybody she thinks is just a kid......wow read more
