There's a breakfast menu with a large selection of breakfasts to choose from and also a separate lunch menu. There's also a daily breakfast or lunch special too. The lunch special is usually some type of sandwich and comes with a side dish. I highly recommend that you choose their homemade soup as a side. They are delicious superstars...especially the clam chowder on Fridays. It's chock-full of clams with potatoes, bacon and it's the best I've ever had! I personally really like it here, the food is fine, the coffee is fine, the establishment is fine, but it's the feeling that you are with family here. It's the people working here, the family, that make the place special. I've found myself most likely to stop in for coffee and the daily soup, the coffee is what you'd expect, but I've yet to be disappointed with the soup. Eggs are good. Hash browns are good. Country fried steak was good. Biscuit was good. I liked the little bit of butter on it. I don't know what else to say. Oh yeah, they were slammed, so it took a while for us to get our food. However, the waitress came around and filled our coffee over and over again. (like any good diner would, naturally) I quite like the atmosphere, and it's filled with locals. I generally love little diners like this. read more

They have absolutely the rudest waitresses ive ever encountered at a restaurant, if you can even call it that. I was refused the proper meal I ordered and was brought something completely different and when I asked to get the proper order i was yelled at by the waitress and she refused to replace my incorrect meal. Also the silverware had dried food stuck to them and I respectfully asked for new utensils she took the old ones and dropped the new replacements on the floor and than set them on my table. Suggesting that she was expecting me to use my fork after it had fallen on the filthy floor. And I do meen filthy. Terrible owners and terribly disrespectful employees. read more

We love supporting the local small businesses which is why we went here today. Unfortunately it was an awful experience. There were only 2 other tables besides ours, we ordered first, and we still waited over 30 minutes for our food. The worst part was that there was no acknowledgement from our waitress about the wait. No apology no nothing. When we were finally ready to walk out they brought the food, some of which was heated up in the microwave and it showed. Eggs ordered over easy came out hard fried, and the chicken fried steak was terrible. We hate leaving reviews like this for a place that clearly has a history in the community but this was the worst food experience we've had in a long time. We were up in Stanwood for haircuts one morning and decided to stop for some breakfast after we were done. There were a few options around but we decided on The Duck In Cafe. The inside is small but welcoming. There was a small amount of bar seating near the door filled with what I'm assuming were their regulars who were having a great time chatting it up while eating. We were told we could pick a place to sit and we sat near the huge mural on the wall. We enjoyed looking at it and finding all of the small details. Our waitress came to take our order. I ordered The Hunters Special and my husband ordered The Mess. After some time, our food came out piping hot and it was delicious! It's that homey diner food that we really love and we both finished our food with absolutely no complaints. My husband also ordered a coffee which he was great and the waitress constantly kept full. Love that! Speaking of our waitress, she was friendly and did a great job taking care of us and everyone else that was in there. Next time we're in town, we're definitely stopping by! read more

I had a fasting blood draw and was looking for a restaurant with a hearty breakfast. Years ago a coworker said the Duck In was a good restaurant to eat at so I thought I'd give them a try.. I walked into the restaurant and noticed that the inside was dirty/dingy. I spent 22 year traveling for work and had seen a lot of restaurants so I wasn't immediately put off. I was seated, reviewed the menu and decided on the biscuits and gravy. I was really hungry so I asked the waitress if I could get hash browns on the side. She said if I ordered the deluxe biscuits and gravy the hash browns were included. When the meal arrived, I was underwhelmed. Yes, there were biscuits, gravy and hash browns but the biscuits were about 1/2 inch tall. Together the two biscuits would not have made a respectable biscuit. The gravy was the right color and thickness but there was so little of it and there was no sausage in it. The hash browns were browned appropriately but they were about a 1/4 inch tall. All in all, the amount of food was not particularly filling and cost $13 and change. I could have overlooked the dirty/dingy walls/floors if the food was good but it wasn't. I like supporting small businesses but in this case, I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I absolutely love small, intimate, local cafes where everyone knows everyone. This is Duck In Cafe. Glorious Chicken Fried Steak, while many have this on their menu, few accomplish the awesome sauce it takes to finish a delicious plate. There are several places to eat breakfast in Stanwood and Camano, but none as charming and likable as the Duck Inn Cafe. On our way back to Seattle we stopped for a bite to eat and were treated to lovely service, delectable foodstuffs, and an all-around welcoming staff. I decided on the "Hens in a nest" which has two eggs, crispy hash browns and toast, but I substituted a biscuit instead, for less than a buck. Good thinking me, because their biscuit was BOMB. My boo had the special of the day, eggs Benedict, hold the ham. His poached eggs were a marvel, so beautifully poached they belonged in a museum, with creamy, fatty hollandaise that hit all the right notes. I can't wait to return to Camano, so we can try the other items that looked so inviting..pancakes, french toast, mmmm. Don't let the modest exterior/interior fool you, these folks are legit. read more

They have standard fare for breakfast and they close at lunch. It's an older building and quite crowded. If you want privacy, this is not the place to go. Don't be surprised if you have to wait for a table. It is quite a popular spot. They used to have oyster omelettes and that's why I would go every Friday, but they discontinued that. Cute diner in Standwood,WA. Honestly, we haven't heard of the place/neighborhood before, but we decided to stop here for brunch on the way up to Vancouver. There weren't that many reviews or pictures on Yelp either, so we felt the extra need to explore and add our thoughts on here. The place is located about 15min off I-5,but it wasn't that bad. There are bartell and gas stations nearby so this could be a good resting/stopping point if you are heading up North. It looked very old from outside, but the inside was quite cozy. They had the duck themed interior with duck wall papers, duck dolls, cup with duck drawing on it, etc. It didn't take us long to realize that this is well loved breakfast place for locals as there were tons of families and elders enjoying their brunch. The menus are traditional american breakfast. We had veggie delight omelette and daily special egg benedict. Since the restaurant was pretty full, it took some time for food to come out, but we enjoyed our dish. The eggs benedict (~10$) had perfectly poached egg, and the swiss cheese in the veggie omelette (~$12) was very tasty. I also enjoyed my little fruit salad (subsituted with hash brown). Overall, a good diner in a small town. Good find, 3 stars in my opinion :) read more

Take it from someone who is learning to visit the smaller "mom and pop" restaurants after moving to a rural community from a big city (Phoenix), don't let the sparse decor on the outside deter you from enjoying the good food, friendly service, and quaintly pleasant atmosphere. The French Vanilla Cappuccino was deliciously welcoming with plenty of whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles! We were greeted at the door by a very friendly and attentive server who went out of her way to seat us promptly within a small setting. Everyone seemed to enjoy their breakfast in this warm hometown atmosphere. Don't miss your chance as they are not open on Sundays. The prices are reasonable, too. read more

Our group of 8 stopped in on Saturday for a late lunch / brunch. They have a pretty good sized shared parking lot, there was an auction going on so parking was limited. When we walked in the door (four of us got there first) i can't say that we were really greeted with a smile more of a oh you want to eat here, here have this table, oh your expecting more. No smiles for us, none the whole time, all the locals around us got great smiles and polite conversation. Our server Rhonda (thats what the receipt said anyway) came and took half the tables drink order, went and got them then came back for the others. There were several things that were requested and questions asked (the answers were not known to) that just were ignored, they were acknowledged but that's it. Water was never refilled, the coffee was because another gal was doing it. Had some dirty silverware and the a/c right above our table came on. The food was really good and cooked exactly like it was ordered, I really wanted to like this place. From the name to the cute decor and tasty food i wanted to love it, unfortunately could not get past the very poor service. read more

We 'ducked' into the cafe for a light brunch before exploring more on the island. I ordered a side of Mark Browns that turned out nicely. It consists of onion and cheese atop a bed of hash browns. My partner, however, ordered the 'soup of the day' (clam chowder) that wasn't from that day. From sitting at the bar, we watched as they put hot water from the coffee machine into the mixture and heated it in the microwave a few times. If the weird congealed glob wasn't enough to put him off, the ice cold clams in his soup was. We couldn't get out of there fast enough, even without eating. The employees seemed to be working really hard and depended on the microwave a bit too much. A great solution would be to pair down the menu to do justice to their food in the small open cook space that they have. read more

Stopped in for brunch with my youngest son while we were at the vintage camping trailer show. A small little restaurant with counter seating and about six tables. The boy wanted to sit at the counter. Our waitress was prompt and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We ordered coffee and water. She brought our drinks and took our order. I ordered the country fried steak with hashbrowns over easy eggs and a biscuit. My son ordered French toast and a couple of eggs. Their kitchen is in the front of the house, Behind the counter. It is completely open to the counter seating.Everything is cooked on a flat top with the exception of eggs which were cooked in the 10 inch nonstick chefs pans. I was a little shocked when I watched the cook put a piece of country fried steak on a flat top to cook. But there it was. Egg replacer at first, followed by a healthy portion of hashbrowns and then the country fried steak off the flat top. The fried steak was covered with gravy from a pot and the biscuit was toasted on the griddle. My sons French toast was very traditional topped with butter and powdered sugar. His eggs were perfect. The food tasted fine and we were full. I was a little taken aback when I watched the cook make an omelette and top it with cheese and throw it in the microwave to melt it. Not sure I would recommend this place. I'm sure there is a better place in Stanwood or Camano Island for breakfast. read more

My husband and I ate breakfast here this morning and ordered the basic omelet with bacon, egg and cheese. I added green peppers to my omelet and ate my meal which was really good, but I then get the check and notice a $4.95 charge added on to my tab. I asked the waitress what the charge was for and she informed me that apparently that was for the green peppers. She blamed it on inflation!! $4.95 extra for green peppers on an $11 dollar omelet is absolutely ridiculous and for the waitress to not even say anything about it until I ask what the charge was for is even worse. A solid 3 for a quaint and adorable little breakfast (and lunch) spot. Happened upon this on a recent camano to whidbey to peninsula and back road trip for breakfast and what a fun find! They take the duck theme pretty seriously here, and without overdoing it too badly. They even have one of those duck phones. It took me a minute to figure out where the quacking noises kept coming from. I went with one of their morning specials, the southwest scramble. Simple mix of sausage, onions, peppers and eggs. Comes with hashbrown and choice of toast. The sausage was really good. It had more of a pepperoni flavor to it than typical sausage and I enjoyed it. The hashbrowns were absolutely perfectly done. This was definitely a joint where the locals know to go and do so on a regular basis, everyone seemed to know everyone. Sit at the bar and enjoy the banter with your server and watching the grill cook work her perfectly timed magic. read more

I really want to try the Eggs Benedict because I've heard such good reports on it but timing was off. Not hungry enough & EB cannot be 'doggy-bagged'. I had the 1/2 Ruben sandwich. Glad I asked for extra mayo or it would have been dry. Altho a generous portion of meat it wasn't very tasty. Picked the potato salad as my side. Absolutely tasteless. If you are a lover of bland food...this is your place. I will give it a 2nd chance for the Eggs Benedict. read more

We ate lunch here today, nice little old school breakfast and lunch cafe that closes at 2PM. The service was fast and friendly and the dining area clean and cheerful with a funny mural with flying pigs. I had a cheeseburger with potato salad, the only other choice of sides were soup, potato chips or green salad. The burger was okay but not worth $8.25 especially since you can't get french fries. The potato salad wasn't noteworthy so I should have gone with the green salad which my dining partner had with her Ruben sandwich, she enjoyed both very much. Reading reviews it appears breakfast is the meal to order here, I'll certainly try that next time and hopefully I'll have to edit this review. read more
