Used to be our go to breakfast, not just for us, but also as far as recommending to out of town people visiting the island. But seeing the un-neighborliness of closing off your parking lot when you're closed just rubs me the wrong way. This isn't the big city, it's a small town, it's a community. I truly did enjoy my visit today. I'd ordered the chefs salad, as it's 80+, and an Arnold Palmer, both were cold and to my surprise my drink stayed topped off. The building has a history and the restaurant has been around for many years, maybe underwhelming, but it's always fun to explore the tucked away businesses. My waitress was great, full of information, fun to talk with and easy on the eyes. This place may not be for everyone, but I couldn't find anything to complain about, plan to return and explore the new additions to the menu. read more

Went there for an early Sunday breakfast this morning. My order included hash browns, country fried steak/gravy, biscuits/gravy, eggs and sausages. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Bottomless coffee too! It was a warm and pleasant experience. I was shocked when the bill came. I was expecting it to be much higher than it was. This prompted a nice tip in appreciation. I have been coming here for few years for breakfast and lunch and have never been disappointed. Everything I have ordered has been quite good. I particularly love their bobbity salad ( greens, apples, walnuts, raisins, feta cheese, cubed chicken,onions. Covered in a raspberry vinaigrette delicious) The ambience is very good unless they are packed then a little noisy. The wait staff is great especially Jennifer and Patty they are always looking to make your dining experience delightful. They do take out which I have never did but brought a lot of leftover home. Especially thier breakfast meals because they give you a lot. It is one of those establishments that make you feel at home when you enter. We came here for a late lunch, and this place was perfect, It looked as if it came out of a Norman Rockwell picture. The waitress was nice, attentive, and had a sense of humor. The food was delicious, I recommend the soup with lunch, it was wonderful. Out water glasses, and coffee never ran out. They have a private parking lot on the east side of the building. Really cute little diner in Stanwood. We stopped here for breakfast on our way back from a getaway on Camano. Very traditional diner breakfast, with a few gems thrown in on the menu. The staff here was great. Coffee was ok. Not sure if we'll be back in the area, but it's good to know there's a solid diner around the area. read more

Stopped here on our way back to Seattle from Camano Island but it seems to be popular with locals. No frills diner with tables, booths, and counter seats. The host stand was very disorganized and they weren't getting people's names right when adding them to the waiting list. We had a wait of maybe 10 minutes at 11 or so on a Sunday morning. We split the homemade corned beef hash ($2 split plate fee), which had large chunks of potatoes, some green pepper and onions, and comparably less beef. I asked for a side of fruit; note that it's canned, not fresh. Coffee was constantly filled and our server was friendly and efficient. Paying (back at the host stand) was a slow process. read more

I have been going for breakfast nearly every Saturday at the Stanwood Cafe for approximately 8 years. I have been going there because the food is very good and it is very reasonable. Because of Covig19 last Sunday was only my 2nd time back for breakfast While I was waiting for my order I could see the 2 cooks in the kitchen. One i believe was the owner and the other cook was a guy who has been there a long time. I received my order and only ate half of it because i lost my appetite. The 2nd cook wasn't wearing a mask while he was cooking everyone's food. I told the waitress and s to e said she was sorry. Our country and our state is in the worst crisis we have ever seen and yet we have people not following Governor Inslees direct orders for our state because of Covig19. There aren't a lot of places to get breakfast on a Sunday morning so we decided to stop at The Stanwood Cafe because it looked busy. When we got inside to find that the place was almost full. But even as busy as it was the service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon, crisp. The pancakes and bacon that I got were far superior to the food that I got at another Stanwood breakfast place the day before. The pancakes had more blueberries and the bacon was thick cut with a nice flavor not the cheap super market crap the other place served. Two people in our party ordered the biscuit & gravy which was a mixed bag. Neither cared for the gravy but both liked the biscuit. The color of the gravy is a little strange and the taste is pretty neutral, not peppery or strongly sausage flavored. The last person in our group had one of the daily specials, Swedish pancakes. They were dense and chewy just like they should be and came with strawberry butter. The eggs were all cooked correctly and no one left hungry. One meal the Hungry Man #2 with biscuit & gravy is enough to feed two so beware if you order it. read more

There isn't much in Stanwood from which to choose, so feeling adventurous, we decided to give this small town cafe a whirl despite the mixed reviews. This was a "howdy, seat-yourself" type of 60's era place with mostly regular locals, which we have come to expect in this rural area. The server was very nice and friendly and ready with the coffee. She took our orders quickly as well, and the food was delivered timely. I ordered the hungry man since I like a little of everything. It included thick smoked bacon, eggs (scrambled for me), hash browns, and 1 pancake (so big, it filled a second plate). The food was hot and would have been great, however the bacon, eggs, and hb's were over cooked. The inside of the hb's was very good, though, and at least they were not greasy, as I have found them to be in most of the other places in this area. The pancake was that sticky doughy consistency, and just too big, which isn't my cup of tea. Others may like them that way. My husband had an omelette, which was good, and a side of biscuits and gravy. His hb's were overdone as well. He didn't find the gravy the off-color that others have posted previously, so perhaps they have corrected that. Overall, service was good, food was okay-could have been better if not over cooked, prices reasonable, and atmosphere was well, small town typical, I guess. Yeah. Quick update. I got very sick the following evening after eating here. My sister in law ate there two hours after we had left and she too got sick the rest of the evening. I don't know if it's from the subpar food. Or the dirtiness of the restaurant. After being a loyal customer for years we have decided to never come back here. Hope the best for this place. Choosing where to dine is more than food or eating... We sat for 15 minutes without being seen. There were two servers staffed on a busy Friday. I watched them navigate the floor as we waited. Neither smiled the entire time. I was deeply astonished by the lack of hospitality. We stayed as an experiment to see how long it would take to order. After hailing down a waitress, one finally (grumpily) took our order and didn't say thank you or even make eye-contact. Upon walking into the cafe, the first thing I noticed was the fact that at 1pm it was empty, maybe 3 other tables in a place with roughly 25-30 tables thats not a good sign on a sunny saturday, decided to give it ago anyhow. Sat down at the counter, right away i see a dirty split pea soup pan in front of me, figured eh waitress will move it when she brings my menu. Nope 30 + mins of staring into dirty split pea soup. Ordered the hash browns, eggs and half order of biscuits and gravy. So the food arrives and I immediately notice a off color to the gravy, figure maybe its homemade. Try a bit of it and wow it was like, paste and piss mixed together. The only thing that could truly help this place in my eyes would be to get new owners, fire everyone and start fresh. This is my favorite neighborhood breakfast hangout. When you step though the doors of the Stanwood Cafe you'll instantly be transported back in time to the late 50's and early 60's! Every so often I have to look over my should to make sure Andy Griffith, Barney Fife, Opi, and Aunt Bee are sitting behind me. I'm a health nut and usually shop for organic food but when I step though the doors of the Stanwood Cafe I leave all my health habits behind. Every so often even us health nuts have to give in right? The Stanwood Cafe is all about atmosphere! The food is delicious and a step above Denny's or IHOP but I can't lie and tell you that the crab and shrimp omelets, or the golden brown waffles with stawberry sauce and whip cream are good for your arteries. I GO EVERY WEEKEND!! This is the best breakfast around, ask for a doggy bag you cannot eat all this great food in one sitting! The staff is awesome, friendly and even remember you like family. Went to have breakfast there recently. Had been long time since I wasn't impressed last time we went there. Coffee was horrible. Burnt and bitter taste. Floor was dirty and booths and bar stools look worn and grubby. Vinyl fom the seats flaking off. Cobwebs and dust on window sills. My scrambled eggs were stringy and dry and bacon was over-cooked and dry. Pancake was OK. This place needs a make-over. Service was fine though, so that's the only reason for a 2-star rating. read more

I have only ever had their breakfast food so I have no comment regarding their lunch menu. However, I must say I LOVE their Swedish pancakes! They are honestly amazing! I have tried other things off of their breakfast menu but at the end of the day, their Swedish pancakes are hands down my absolute favorite, especially when topped with fresh blueberries! The only con for this place is that the service is a little hit and miss. I have gone some days and had wonderful service and the waitress was super friendly and attentive. I have gone other days, and barely received any service other than to take my order and then gone and then have the waitress appear to be annoyed when asked for a refill of water. Other than the hit and miss service, I would still say you have to try their breakfast out and definitely give their Swedish pancakes a try! I'm positive you won't regret it! read more

Great diner fare served by a competent and friendly waitstaff. It's old, a little grungy and worn down but authentic. This is a warm small town diner experience at its very core. Our waitress was phenomenal, she filled my coffee over and over, she made the kids feel important and wanted. The portions are huge. All of us has to take home left overs. Saturday breakfast delight! This place is well known by locals for good reason. Many items to choose from on the regular menu and the specials. After a tough decision and discussion, I ordered the eggs benedict and was not disappointed! The hashbrowns were amazing, perfect mix of crisp and soft, and the portion was hearty.
