First time coming to Blue Heron. It's on Camano Island right at a busy intersection. It has a large parking lot and overflow is on a busy road so be careful crossing if you wind up parking there. The building has been many other restaurants that couldn't make a go of it and last but I think Blue Heron is here to stay. Decorated in blue and white with black trim this place has a very clean look. I thought booth upholstery was nicely done. In the past it this interior was loud and echoed. Now it's been dampened some but we could clearly still hear the bar patrons from across the room. We had a reservation and Tessa (not sure of spelling) seated us and handled our table. She was good. Friendly and efficient. All I saw were young girls waiting tables. The menu has a bit of everything and I think they change it from time to time. They have seafood, shellfish in abundance. Mrs Billy D had the Parmesan encrusted Cod and it looked great. She loved it. I had their fish and chips. Next time I'll get the Cod. They have an Angus burger at 1/3 pound too plus shrimp and prawns dishes, clam linguine and others. They have a decent wine selection and have wine related events throughout the year. We ordered the warm bread appetizer which is sourdough sliced and toasted with an olive oil and parmesan dipping plate. We also got the bacon wrapped dates. They were fantastic. They might have been grilled or baked. So much flavor and they came drizzled in some kind of sweet chili sauce. They have a blackberry lime margarita which is what we chose. Mrs Billy D loved it and she is a margarita snob. Prices are on par with every other decent place and we got out of there for around $150 with a tip. Now that we know more we will be back. read more

We finally got to try this restaurant last weekend. We sat on the deck, it was beautiful! Our service was spectacular! I had the salmon and my husband had the flank steak. Both were delicious. There for lunch today. Food was very good, chowder thick and full of flavor, Caesar salad was very good. Not just some dressing, but real Ceasar, however, romaine lettuce is not red! I went to this awesome establishment after a ride with our motorcycle group. The restaurant was super busy, and we had a reservation, so we were seated right away. The restaurant has a cozy, open feeling with friendly wait staff. There was an amazing selection of cocktails, of which several of my tablemates partook. Since I'm dealing with kidney issues, I had soda water. We ordered, and I decided to have Seafood Bisque, along with warm bread. My bowl of bisque was so tasty. So hot, thick and creamy that it literally danced across my tastebuds. The warm bread was the best accompaniment to the yummy soup. Not to mention the portion was large enough to share with some of my tablemates. Everything was so tasty and service was quite speedy. Tldr; pretty interiors but long wait and mediocre food When you first walk in, you can tell immediately that they had remodeled the establishment. Everything from the ceiling fixures to the dark blue booths looked clean and aesthetic. I was excited to finally have a restaurant near Camano Island, where my parents live. Unfortunately, I ended up disappointed with the speed of service and quality of the food. It was about an hour from seating to the time we got our meals. The cocktails alone took forever. I took a peek in the kitchen on my way to the bathroom, and I only saw 3 chefs in the kitchen, 8-10 servers/waitstaff were in the hall, and 2 bartenders were behind the bar. This staff are supporting 34+ tables. Maybe the problem is the shortage of chefs & bartenders. But when our food came out, honestly it was just mediocre. My flank steak (which I requested medium-rare) was red in the middle, but the meat was pretty tough to eat. The house-made steak sauce was overbearing and the vegetables were just stir-fried (pretty bland). I could've made this better in my own kitchen, to be honest. The clam linquine had no sauce. It was just oil and clam juice. The salmon was bland and a bit dry. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt even if it was a long wait and service was slow, but the food just didn't make up for it at all. I guess Mt. Vernon is a better place to go for food in the area. read more

Came here for my husbands birthday. We were offered the choice to sit inside or outside. We opted for outside since it was a beautiful day but also because they do not offer high chairs, only booster seats so we had to grab our stroller for our 1 year old. So just an fyi in case you need a high chair. Outside is nice, you get a view of the little lake. The breeze was nice and the ambiance makes you feel relaxed but also that you're somewhere kind of fancy. There was a handful of mosquitos, gnats, etc that were kind of annoying but manageable. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had a really nice waitress who was fun. She was really attentive and on top of things. She was friendly and even interacted with our 7 year old. Blue Heron has good list of cocktails and they were pretty tasty. The food was good and everyone loved their dishes. I got the linguine chicken Alfredo. My husband got the burger, and my in-laws got the jambalaya, and a fish dish. The kids menu also has a lot of choices for even the pickiest eaters. Overall, we would definitely come back and I recommend you check this place out if you're ever on Camano Island! read more

We were a group of four and went for Happy Hour on Saturday. We were told that we couldn't have "Happy Hour " drinks and hors d'oeuvres on the deck!! It was a hot day and we wanted to enjoy the outdoors! Rather then in there very small dark bar that seats maybe 6-8 people. There were other guests there that were playing instruments at their seats while eating (not live music) and having their kids run around the restaurant screaming (maybe the owners family?). Stylish, comfortable, and so beautiful inside! It is almost always busy here, and that is a testament to how good it is- the service is very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant space is immaculate. Even the bathroom was beautiful- lol! Not being from the Stanwood/Camano area, I wasn't familiar with the space before this. But, according to my mother-in-law, it has come a long way from what it used to be. The food was fresh and perfectly crafted, and the drink selection paired with the menu seamlessly. What a sweet gem of a spot! The restaurant is clean, bright, and well decorated. The staff was so kind and helpful, accommodating our group of 6 without a reservation with ease. The food was SO delicious! I personally had the clam linguine and shared smoked salmon dip and warm bread with the table and it was sooooo worth the extra calories for those carbs. Man I keep trying to like this place. It's a neat spot in the summertime and it's close to my house. I have had fine experiences there, but too many average to poor. (See my previous review). Tonight we had a 7:15 reservation and the place was quite busy. They only had 2 waitstaff which is way understaffed for a Sat night. That said the service was not great either. We got seated in a corner behind a large party so there was not any natural food traffic by our table. It took several minutes for anyone to come by and talk to us. Because of the long wait we ordered an app, drinks and our entrees all at the same time. The app came out in a reasonable amount of time and was fine. We have had it before. It was about 35 minutes before we got our drinks. I had the smoked old fashioned special which I assume had been sitting awhile as it was really watered down could barely taste the bourbon in the drink. Our entrees cam about about 10 minutes later. I ordered a flank steak med rare which came with some beans and a baked potato. The plate was very hot, which is fine but the foil wrapped butter tab for the potato was liquid and melted all over the plate. The steak was rare in most pieces (not med). I would have said something but we didn't hear from our waitress agains during our meal. We finished our entrees and sat another 15 minutes before the other waitress came and gave us our check, which I was in the process of paying for when we got our first visit from our waitress since dropping off our entrees asking if we wanted a desert, saw that I was already paying then walked off. Disappointing. I know they were short staffed but they were also wiping down tables etc as it was toward the end of the night instead of helping customers. read more

Table that were seated 2 party after ours got their drinks and order in before we even got water or greeted by our waiter. We waited for over 10mins. Okay.......... WOW. Our group of 7 was absolutely blown away by the delicious food, ambiance, and service from Blue Heron. We started our dinner with some appetizers; artichoke dip, shrimp cocktail, and bread. The artichoke dip was stunning, the shrimp was so fresh and the bread was soft and warm. Onto soup & salad. This night they had tomato basil (which is always a favorite of mine) and they nailed it. So creamy and flavorful. The timing between appetizers and entrees was slow... but they were quite busy and the service was on point. We got salmon, shrimp/chips, Thai noodle salad, cobb salad, and alfredo (shrimp and chicken) for the entrees. EVERYTHING WAS DELECTABLE. Truly, we could not stop talking about how all of our plates were so beautifully done and delicious. We finished our evening off with dessert. I got the creme brulee, others indulged in the chocolate cake and strawberry/rhubarb cobbler. Again, they absolutely blew us away. The only pieces of constructive criticism: - It is very chilly inside the restaurant, dress accordingly! Especially in the winter with the front door opening/closing so frequently... it was very drafty. - The parking lot was FULL.... so cross your fingers on your drive that you will get lucky and grab a spot. - It is loud. The ambiance is lively and upscale, but the noise factor is definitely something to take into account. - The hostess was quite rude.... genuinely ignoring customers as they walked in as if they did not exist. Quite off-putting and uncomfortable, as you know she sees you. This happened with every set of customers that came in... as we waited for a larger table to open up. I got to bear witness to people coming in and standing for 5+ minutes waiting to just be AWKNOWLGED by the hostess who was milling about yet making eye contact with customers. Then when she finally would come up and talk with you, she was inappropriate and bickered with patrons. The hostess is the first impression of the restaurant and the older blonde woman needs to work on that. That being said..... WE CANNOT WAIT to come back!!! Finally! A restaurant on or near the island that serves something other than pub grub or Thai ! We stopped in only for a couple appetizers but hope to be back for dinner some time soon. Friendly service, modern feel, great prices, and decent variety. Two suggestions: dim the lights for better ambiance. And put less cheese and pesto on your flat bread ( it was more like a pizza with extra sauce & cheese). Service was very friendly! Look forward to coming back! Ps). A sneak peak at Camano Island's newest flare to hit the dining scene. Ordering the steelhead entree at the Chef's recommendation, it was expertly seasoned and cooked to perfection, I feel a lot of the time fish is under salted and left too much to their own devices, this had a delightful zing that accented properly. Coupled with a saffron rice and grilled asparagus, a great coupling. I started my experience with a Cilantro margarita that wasn't too sweet and just the right amount of tartness. The ambiance was fun and inviting; The design has been completely remodeled from the prior establishment, a very welcome change of scenery. Initially we gave this a great review but the past 4 times we have visited the service has been terrible. The food is inconsistent & we have not enjoyed our visit. So many things to improve upon I don't know where to start. Just getting water to the table seems to be a challenge for them. Once you finally get your water forget about the beverages. It takes forever. My husband ordered the 50$ steak & said please don't overcook it. Medium rare but on the rare side. Over half of it had no pink at all, the other half was medium well. He waited & waited to send it back but she never came by. Then when she did he said it wasn't edible. No offer for a fix- we fed it to our dog. I have loved the toasted butter bread, it's been soggy & brought after my soup. I sure hope they tighten things up because we just will not go there any longer. read more

Stopped in after a leisurely drive around Camano Island and grabbed a seat at the bar. Blue Heron has an inviting Coastal/PNW atmosphere. I had the risotto with steelhead and a glass of cab sauv - perfect to warm up after a cool, cloudy day. This is a tough review to leave because so much is right. The location is excellent. It is out of the city and so close to the best things Camano Island has to offer. The help us courteous, polite and efficient. The cleanliness is on par and the food is excellent. SO what is the problem??? The parking lot is absolutely untolerable. The spaces are so ridiculously skinny that my work truck tires were within 4 or 5 inches of the white lines. I can't imaging bringing my personal vehicle here to collect door dings. This appears to be the nicest restaurant on Camano Island, so we thought we'd give it a try. Our server was very nice, and the ambiance is good (we sat inside, but they also have a nice looking deck). We both chose the marinated flank steak with chimichurri sauce. It came with yukon gold potatoes and sautéed red peppers and onions. I asked for no potatoes and was given extra of the other veggies, which was nice. The steak, cooked medium, was a little chewy, which isn't surprising, but the flavor was excellent. My husband had the Diamond Knot Lower Deck Lager, and I chose the Fort George Cavatica Stout. I have been wanting to try the Blue Heron for a few months now, and we finally made it over for lunch this weekend. Overall, I would absolutely go back for another meal. First impressions: Having never been here before, I cannot speak to what the restaurant looked like before they remodeled, but I found the interior to be clean, well-kept, and very visually appealing. I loved the dark blue paint accents, the booth was comfortable, the fireplace gave great ambiance, and views are gorgeous. (Sidenote, here, I'm hoping to go back this summer and try lunch out on the deck if they allow food service on the wraparound deck). The food: We began with the Italian sausage flatbread appetizer,which was a generous portion size, that could have been a meal by itself for one person. The combination of flavors was fantastic, we both enjoyed the flatbread, my only critique is that the red onion, which was pickled (not noted on the menu), was very roughly chopped up. This resulted in some small red onion pieces that enhance the flavor of the flatbread, but some very large pieces, up to 1" squared, that overwhelmed the other flavors at times. Oh, I would recommend that if someone is going to add pickled red onion, and use larger pieces of onion, a few dollops of creamy, goat cheese, or similar cheese would offset the acidity of the pickled onion. For our entrées, I had the Parmesan crusted ling cod with saffron rice and asparagus and my companion had one of the specials of the day, the stuffed salmon with smashed potato cakes and broccolini. We both LOVED both of our fish dishes. The fish was moist, accompanying sauces enhanced the flavors, delicious stuffing on the salmon. Would highly recommend both. My constructive criticism is directed to the sides - the saffron rice and the smashed potato cakes. The rice was buttery but in my opinion was a one note flavor that could have used some brightness/acidity from a sprinkle of citrus juice (orange maybe?) or zest, or even some finely diced grape tomatoes. The smashed potatoes were under-seasoned in my opinion. They were tasty yes, but some Italian herbs and a little salt and pepper would have gone a long way to bringing in some flavors to the crust to compliment the stuffed salmon. We did finish with dessert, the seasonal berry cobbler. We both quite enjoyed it, the hot fruit cobbler with vanilla ice cream was delicious. My only thought was the crust covering the cobbler could have either been a little less thick, or a little salt to really pull out the baked buttery flavor of the crust. We had no problems with the service, the server and manager were both friendly and accommodating. With only the two of them on the front end there were some delays for other customers, but not for us. If you eat at a local restaurant, you need to expect that your service might be a bit slower, but the food and staff more than make up for the delay.
