Was in the neighborhood with a friend and walked to Blue Butterfly one early Saturday morning. The coffee shop was bustling and there was a line to order, but they were turning out drinks, pastries and hot dishes in a very timely manner. It's a cozy little cafe with a brick aesthetic. Their vast selection of pastries are displayed behind a thick layer of glass on the counter. They offer outdoor seating and there is a whole other section of seating next door when the main cafe is crowded. My friend recommended the espresso dul'sal, which is made with Black Lava Sea Salt, and my kiddo got a blueberry-ube kouign amann (not sure of the exact name). Both the drink and pastry were delicious; the espresso was so creamy and the sea salt cut through the sweetness, and there was real ube inside the pastry. We sat and enjoyed our late morning snack in the next-door seating. I would highly recommend stopping by when you're in El Segundo! read more

This was our go-to coffee spot during our weekend in LA. I don't drink tea or coffee, so this was all of my three other friends' spot. Each morning we went here, there was always a line almost out the door. They have a nice variety of items on their menu and A LOT of pastry options in display in their display case too. Each one looked delicious. One of my coffee-loving friends ordered an ice white mocha with strawberry cloud foam. She really liked it and would give it a 4.5/5. My friend who doesn't really enjoy coffee ordered the strawberry cloud matcha. She gave it 5/5 and said "solid matcha." Okay, Blue Butterfly Coffee Co. has my heart now. We popped in on a busy Friday afternoon figuring we'd be hunting for a table, and nope--found seats no problem. That blue butterfly tea latte? So good, and so fun--it's the kind of drink that makes you happy just looking at it. The coffee's great too, so honestly you can't lose. But here's the thing that actually got us. The staff was warm and genuinely helpful--the kind of people who make you want to stick around. So we did. My friend and I sat down to catch up over coffee and looked up about four cups later realizing we'd basically closed the place down. And they were so gracious about it, not a single "are these people ever leaving" look. As an introvert who doesn't linger just anywhere, that says something. We'll be back. Probably soon. read more

This quaint tea/coffee stop has it all. Fine bakery and great selection of hot and cold drinks. For me, I'm just a black ice tea drinker...boring...but they have an extensive drink menu for those of you that have desires of the fancy stuff. Ice tea for me 24/7. For food, make sure you look at the entire menu because you'll regret...like I did by just looking at the baked goodies. Service: Very nice. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and patient despite having a fairly deep line. Food: I got the Sunrise Sandwich and it was super tasty! The bacon was nice and thick and the muffin had a nice crisp without being brittle! So yummy! Coffee: It was good for sure. I think I generally prefer it a bit sweeter. It tastes a bit more of a flat white, but was still 4 of 5 stars for what I like. I ordered the Iced Vanilla Latte. Environment: Definitely more of a small shop vibe rather than industrial Starbucks. But a well done small shop where you can comfortably hang out and chat or read. Tables are a bit close in the main, but it's not a problem unless you really like your space. We decided to stop by this coffee shop on a Saturday afternoon. They have a great selection of coffee, teas, and Matcha. We ordered the Spanish latte and the Matcha with strawberry cold foam. The Latte was delicious but the matcha only has a sprinkle of cold foam. I was very disappointed. The coffee shop itself is small and has a patio in the back. Cute little atmosphere. However, the service was lacking. The barista who took our order was not welcoming and seemed rushed. It could have been the time of day, but it still made the experience less enjoyable. read more

I ordered an iced oat milk latte, and something about the flavor tasted off--almost like a faint raisin note that I couldn't get past. The shop itself is cute and bright, with an open, airy feel and lots of natural light. That said, the experience was less cozy than I'd hoped on a chilly, rainy day. A ceiling vent was blasting cold air directly down on me, and when we moved to the neighboring building for additional seating, both the front and back doors were wide open, creating a pretty intense cross breeze. Go to for coffee in El Segundo mostly cause ambiance is great, staff are chill, drinks are yum, and it's within walking distrance from me! Always busy but staff are speedy with making drinks. Matcha is decent but more of a fan of their lattes and smoothies (specifically the Pico Sunrise!) Lots of seating inside and outside. They have a back patio and the space next door reserved so you'll see most people working, studying, etc. They have wifi and bathrooms available too. Wow--the vanilla latte here was incredible! It had the perfect balance of creaminess, sweetness, and rich coffee flavor. The avocado toast was generously layered with some of the freshest slices I've ever had from a café, and every bite tasted just as vibrant as it looked. The pastries were fantastic as well--especially the classic croissant, which was perfectly flaky, buttery, and simple in the best way. I also love that their coffee beans are roasted locally at their roastery just down the street--it's the perfect take-home treat if you want to bring the Blue Butterfly experience with you. The service was warm and attentive. Just be prepared--it gets BUSY! Thankfully, there is overflow seating next door, but I personally love staying in the main shop for the amazing vibe, the cool skateboard art, and the incredible aroma of freshly brewed coffee. My go-to is a green goodness smoothie with extra kale for texture. My friends and I aren't too crazy about the food items-- tuna melt was a little dry, bagel sandwich was nothing to write home about, and breakfast burrito was not particularly flavorful. It's a cozy place to sit down and relax with a little bit of inside and outside seating. Inside options include a few small tables and a petit bar area within that cafe itself, and there's a larger room next door for overflow so there's plenty of space. Customer service was top notch! Servers were warm, friendly, eager to give suggestions, and patient while ordering. This place is definitely special because of the vibe rather than the food. It should be noted that people seem to enjoy the variety of baked goods (different bagel options, croissants, cookies, pumpkin bread, etc). The tall male cashier was rude from the moment I approached the counter. There was no greeting, he pointed at items with his finger while avoiding eye contact, and when I asked about a menu item, he simply told me to read the menu myself. What made the experience even worse was watching him be friendly and engaging with the customer before me and with many customers after me while I was dining in. You know a place is good when you see a line out the door on a quiet street. As I made my way in, the sound of classy jazz welcomed me. The wait in line gives you just the right amount of time to appreciate the display of pastries and bread. The girl that took my order was kind to help me narrow my choices despite being so busy. I ordered a flat white, morning bun, and chicken artichoke sandwich. I loved the bold aromatic flavor of their espresso which paired nicely with the delicately sweet morning bun. The cozy environment, pretty pastries, and friendly service made this coffee run so enjoyable. I came at a busy time so they put away their food menu. I absolutely LOVE Blue Butterfly Coffee (food, drinks and customer service) but their speed (or lack there of) on making drinks and food leaves something to be desired. I'm no restaurateur so would venture to assume that their small kitchen/prep stations lead to some of these awkwardly long wait times for something as simple as avocado toast, but they always seem amply staff and all customers have just come to accept the long as heck wait times. They've opened up an entire seating space next door which has helped the crowds in their OG space. I brought my parents here who were visiting from out of town (despite the wait times) because it is truly a cute little neighborhood breakfast and lunch spot. The hygiene of this place is really concerning. not only are the walls caked in dirt, grease, and trash residue, but everything is filthy - including the food. Even if I ignore the tables caked with dirt and the walls coated with grime, the food is infested with flies and bugs. I bought a latte, and when all the cups lids were covered in hair, crumbs, and grime, I asked for a different lid. The served obliged but then just handed me more lids with crumbs and dust. Also, there were LIVE flies embedded in the pastries. When I told the woman at the counter, she didn't even blink or look surprised, she just shooed them away and ignored the fact that they just landed back on the same pastries. She was unbothered and didn't even apologize or remove the pastries. I spent 12$ here and im tossing everything I bought. never coming back. read more

Another visit to this place 7/7/26 had me sampling their Avocado Toast with black salt, or Kala Namak, which is a mineral-rich rock salt prized in Ayurvedic medicine for its digestive properties. It naturally contains trace minerals like iron, magnesium, and potassium, as well as sulfur compounds that give it a unique savory aroma/taste. C'est magnifique . I also sampled their Morning Bun, and Coffee Cake. Delicious treats to say the least. I'm always satisfied with their drip coffee, but do occasionally order a latte. Tasty, tasty, tasty . Their service is excellent, and they're unusually well staffed, when compared to their competitors. This facility in particular is always jumping. The energy is light, airy, and inviting. Definitely my new favorite spot, and that doesn't happen easily. It takes several visits to an establishment, and consistently good/quality service, as well as attention to even the smallest of details, before it gets deemed "The Spot". A first visit and a complete miss. This spot came highly recommended, but sadly it missed the mark. Upon entering, I expected a great experience. The service was wonderful, displays inviting, menu with tons of variety. I guess I ordered wrong or something. My matcha latte was average, but much to bitter. The meal (I didn't take a picture) was so off. I thought I was ordering an egg dish, but it was light on the eggs and mostly potatoes. Topped with avocado should have been the icing on the cake, but unfortunately, not. The avocado was black, like old and disgusting, needed to be scrapped off and thrown away. The location for this cute little coffee shop is in the downtown area of El Segundo. I was really excited to try coffee from here since I was in the area and it was on my bookmark list. I went in on an early afternoon, I told the cashiers that it was my first time going there, and I did not know what to order, and I gave them some insight of my drink preferences. I ended up just playing it safe and getting an iced vanilla latte. Unfortunately, I won't be back. The coffee was not one that I cared for to be honest, and I was actually disappointed because I was highly anticipating coming here, especially with all of the good reviews. The service didn't make up for it either. I had to dig for a suggestion & I'd think a first timer would get a little more feedback. I've come here multiple times with varying results. For example the almond milk cappuccino has been so hot it made the almond milk curdle it burned my tongue. I thought I'd give it another try the next day same thing. So I came in the next time I was in town and asked for it to be not so hot and they can fly. Unfortunately I ordered the previously delicious classic toast essentially avocado toast and this particular visit there was no one ordering food in the coffee shop and I saw the cook making a lot of bacon but seemingly not working on my avocado toast. When I did ask about it they said he's working on it and a few minutes later I got the avocado toast down on the counter by the cook. And it was ice cold avocados. So disappointing. Blue Butterfly is one of my go-to coffee spots. Seems like every time I visit it gets a bit more unwelcoming. I am shocked at the customer service. Every time the service seems bitter and feels judgy by their tone when ordering regardless of a line or no line. Also, what is going on with the cup lids. I purchased 3 hot drinks and they all fell off and spilled, no one offered a partial refund or replacement or even offered to help with it falling on the ground.
