UPDATE: I WAS WRONG. THE FLAT WHITE IS NOT GREAT. IT IS AVERAGE NOW. Also... I stopped coming here a lot just because the friendliness feels like a big hit or miss. Not sure what it is or if its me personally for whatever reason, but, despite being super friendly 100% of the time, the owner just acts kind of rude and unfriendly to me for literally no reason at all. I promise I don't smell bad and I brush my teeth before I come. I smell really good. I promise! I think the owner is probably on some hipster nonsense bs energy. Cool man...yeah man... It's a shame because its literally the owner who is the rude one in my experience, not any of his staff. His staff never gives me any of his same stinky vibes. P.U. dude... Sorry, but I don't need to feel tension or your bad energy when I'm paying you like $7 for a flat white that takes you 30 seconds to make for me. Sorry to be such a big bother for asking about some of your food items to see if they are vegan so I could possibly pay you more money to buy a food product from you. SORRY FOR TRYING TO SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS BY GIVING YOU BUSINESS WITH MY MONEY!!! SORRY!!! Okay?!! :( When you started rolling your eyes or exhaling that passive aggressive breath out because I was such a bother to you, it was in that moment, yesterday morning, that I left Gitana knowing that I wouldn't come back. From now on, I'll go buy the $7 flat white at Caffe Luxxe in MB located the exact same distance from my place. They do not have delicious food like you do, but they also don't have any of your attitude. Positive attitude to your friendly customers is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than sticking to your pretentiousness and icky, terrible vibes. Sorry if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed and decided to be Oscar the Grouch to me while I was Elmo. Elmo sad now. Elmo REAL SAD. :( :( :( Caffe Luxxe it is because, even though I kind of like your café better, I like being treated with respect WAY MORE than I will ever like your coffee. It is what it is...

    Ube drink and mazapan latte

The good: I really enjoyed the interior decor and atmosphere. They had a loft area that was cute and fit for 2 people. We tried a prosciutto and jam sandwich, Colombian arepas, ube latte, mazapan latte, and a lavender citrus donut. They had outdoor seating as well. The arepas was my favorite thing we ordered. It was simple, sweet and unique. The service was quick and succinct. I enjoyed all of the live plants inside and the tropical, indie and cozy feel of the cafe. They're across from the beach so it's a great location to grab coffee before walking to the beach. The bad: There's only enough seating inside for 2. The jam in the sandwich made it too sweet for me. The interesting: Their menu offers tons of interesting and multicultural inspired menu options. They had Mexican, El Salvadorian, Colombian and Filipino menu options.

A very cute little small café. We came here by a 40 minute drive (each way) and it was well worth it. We drive far for good coffee The place is small, but it feels very eclectic with a touch of artistic style, mosaic tables with petite multilevel seating. There is street parking. There are not a lot of people behind the counter, so it does take a little bit of time to get your order, on a busy day. But everybody waiting outside is very friendly and enjoying their day. So, it seems to attract and give off a good vibe. We saw people riding bikes, walking dogs, and we saw families going for walks. It seems like a very nice community and very peaceful. It's a short walk to the ocean, which I will definitely walk to next time. We ordered a classic Café mocha, a chilled Matcha strawberry, and a bottle of Mexican Coke.

Love this vibe! Reliable WiFi, pup friendly, delicious coffee, and sweet customer service.

Enjoyed the artistic vibes and mazapán latte by the beach. I tried the tomato pastry and it was ok but didn't taste very fresh, I'll try another baked good next time to see if it's any better.

Tucked just a few blocks from the sand, Gitana Cafe is a charming, locally owned Colombian coffee shop that delivers on warmth, flavor, and authenticity. The space is cozy with a rustic, welcoming vibe. Inside, you'll find Colombian art adorning the walls, and the outside patio offers a breezy, laid-back spot to sip your drink and people-watch. There's also a small upstairs area if you're looking to escape the coastal chill. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a flaky biscuit and a Spanish latte--and both exceeded expectations. The sandwich was buttery and satisfying without being too heavy, and the latte had beautiful milk art with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar that gave it a warm, comforting profile. Prices are a bit steep--$18 for the combo--but you're supporting a local spot with heart and real character. The staff were friendly, and everything felt intentional and thoughtfully put together. Highly recommend if you're in Hermosa Beach and want something more meaningful than your standard chain café.

Lavender Matcha + Maza Pan Latte
    Audreen F.

Cute Vibes, But Some Things to Note Gitana's Cafe definitely gives off a strong Hispanic cultural vibe with its decor--it's colorful, warm, and feels like a little slice of something special tucked into the area. The café itself is small (which is pretty common for the area), with the inside just for ordering. All the seating is outdoors, split between a first and second floor. There are about six tables total, and I appreciated the mix of table styles--it gave the space a cozy, laid-back feel. They have a nice selection of pastries, and we ordered the peanut butter latte and the matcha with lavender syrup. The matcha was surprisingly rich, which I liked, though I wish I had asked for more lavender syrup--it was a bit faint. The peanut butter latte didn't really taste like peanut butter except for some bits at the bottom, so that one was a little underwhelming. Prices were on the higher side for what you get, and with limited seating (all outdoors) and no bathroom available, it's not the most convenient spot if you're hoping to stay a while. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars - the vibes and decor are definitely a win, but the drinks and setup left a little to be desired.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a great menu with lots of options, outside seating and exceptional service![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their customer service really shines, I had gotten a drink I ended up not liking and after letting them know they exchanged it for the vanilla rose latte instead, with no problem, and it was amazing!! I definitely recommend this place always.

    Jennifer S.

Cute little cafe with a massive menu and a lot of unique drinks - debated on what to get but ended up ordering the stroopwaffel latte which was pretty good! Also ordered the matcha tonic which was refreshing, but not enough matcha for my taste. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very cute, earthy, and colorful inside, but there isn't interior seating. There are a couple tables outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Empanada
    Jon M.

Gitana has a cool name and really nice looking building and location. My burrito and empanada were somewhat underwhelming. Service was also too blase and the guy working should try being more upbeat and communicative. The premises is also very small with only a few tables. It's not actually on the beach but the next street away. Another issue, not the restaurants fault, is alot of people were speeding through a rather dangerous intersection and not stopping at the stop sign. There were a lot of families with kids and I felt bad for them and myself as bicyclists and pedestrians being targets for all the bad drivers. Watch the driving folks.

    Prosciutto Panini
    Jasmine H.

Burritos are only available on the weekends! My brother and I were looking forward to trying the breakfast burrito but we went during the week and were told they weren't available even though it wasn't indicated anywhere. The prosciutto panini was really tasty at first but the fig jam became too sweet towards the end. My brother really enjoyed his chicken panini. The dirty horchata was tasty and strong. The location is easy to miss but it's cute and whimsy. The prices were reasonable.

I had a pretty solid positive outlook on them. I ordered the "French Toast Latte". I feel like it should have been called the Burnt toast latte. I genuinely took 3 sips and tossed it away in the trash can on the side walk. I tried to mix it and grabbed a straw to do so and it made it WORSE. I'm extremely disappointed that I wasted $7 on a latte. I've had bad coffees before, but this one took the cake. It tasted like milk, and the espresso tasted acidic, burnt have you. At least with other bad coffees I could stomach at least half of it but this was just really acidic. I noticed other people mentioning the coffee scene in LA isn't the same anymore and this attested to that. They started picking up foot traffic & I wasn't going to wait to ask for a remake or anything, I took the L and life moves on. I wasn't going to play Karen about it. The Lamington pastry somewhat saved the experience. This was an extremely moist, spongy, sweet cake that was delicious with coconut flakes on top. She was AMAZING. I snagged a piece off my friends and it was reeallllly good. I would recommend if you like coconut and a softer spongy cake like pastry! Talk about the underdog in this trip. The aesthetic is cute, it's clean and resembles a house. I like the scheme they have going on. The other half looks like a gift shop that I did not go into. They have a restroom available as well inside. Customer service was just customer service. Nothing amazing or bad about it. Pretty standard. We mentioned it's our first time & the girl didn't really care lol. We had questions and it was very whatever kind of vibe. No enthusiasm. Parking would be on the street so good luck!

It is bright and airy and perfect for a relaxed Saturday afternoon lunch. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, almost like we had been invited over to a relative's or friend's home. The menu is approachable and thoughtful, with some really delightful Greek dishes. And yes, Uncle Stavros has to be Greek, right? My wife and I shared the Greek salad and the chicken gyro. Both plates looked amazing and tasted just as good. I almost went with the beef and lamb gyro, but for lunch the chicken felt right, and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The salad was full of great flavors and textures. After tasting the gyro chicken, we both agreed the salad would be even better with that same chicken added in. The real showstopper, though, was the pita. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a gyro where the pita itself stood out. It was so good that we ordered extra to take home. All around, it was a fantastic experience. I was surprised to see some of the lower Yelp reviews, but after reading them, they seemed to focus on things like an Apple Pay issue, an unfriendly waitress, or even a chair being moved. We experienced none of that. What we did experience was great food, warm hospitality, and friendly regulars who added to the neighborhood vibe. We really enjoyed Uncle Stavros Cafe and cannot wait to return. 5 stars.

My only…read morecomplaint was that my hash browns were kinda burnt and crispy (and left the top burnt layer on my plate). Service is great, although last time I tried to go eat there, my party along with another, was turned away due to a private event (and I didn't see a private event there after walking back from "Good Stuff" restaurant down the street on the strand), which kinda bummed me out because I liked this place & haven't been back since.
