It's in a Junktique--so don't expect much. Located in Peddler's Junction and advertising "Fresh Local Seafood" 100 miles from the coast--maybe you should reconsider. I wish I had. The dining area is dark and not well lit. You are literally sitting in a warehouse with 20 foot high ceilings and walls. Industrial heat lamps warm the place above your head like in an old gymnasium. The booths are giant and cushy and the other tables are surrounded by uncushioned, thin metal chairs. There is no décor on the massive walls just dingy, once painted brick or concrete block. Bare bulb fixtures are the only lighting along the walls so if you have low vision, good luck. This isn't industrial chic, its industrial "sheet" if you get my meaning. There is nothing thought through in this place. Just dump some seating inside and there you go. A quarter of the space had chairs stacked on tables as if they weren't even bothered enough to take them down after mopping the floor. As if they knew business was bad so why bother. If you need the bathroom you'll have to search for it as there is no sign or guidance and is communally shared down the hall outside of the junk mart doors. The condiment tray offering is lacking with sparse packet sweeteners, and cheap glass dollar store, half-filled salt and pepper shakers. The waitress was nice but aloof and couldn't force a smile. She was young and unexperienced--3 weeks on the job reportedly. We ordered the crab cake platter. I was quite surprised when it came out in less than 5 minutes. It was a lukewarm, deep fried, obviously precooked hockey puck pulled from a heat lamp or cabinet. I asked for tartar sauce and was given a half filled condiment cup with literally about 1 tablespoon of sauce. She also whipped out a half filled, glass bottle of Heinz labeled ketchup. It was no Heinz. It was the classic fill the bottle back up with generic catsup to save money. You can definitely taste the difference between Heinz and cheap refill from a metal #10 can. The "crab cakes" were most likely microwaved or had been in a heating bin. These were classic crab patties aka stuffing. It was unmistakenly commercial gruel that had been shaped into a "patty". I assure you that no crab lost its life or even a stray leg for those "cakes". In fact, the product was so cheap that the manufacturer didn't even bother to add crab flavoring or fake crab to it. Nor did the cooks. A little fish sauce to make it stink and good enough. This stuff was public school lunch sad. The hushpuppies were stodgy and doughy inside. The fries were unremarkable and the red skin potato salad was made with sweet relish. That was interesting. In fact, it was served in a monkey dish and put on the round plate to fill up the space. So much for a $15 platter. When the bill came it had a "3% Service charge" on it. I asked my waitress what that was for. She didn't know so she asked someone else. Turns out it is for "using a credit card." I didn't ask anything about payment options, it was just there on the bill. I asked if I pay her or at the hostess desk. The waitress said "I'm not doing anything, so I can take it up for you". I opted to take it myself and ask again about the charge. I had to actually ask about paying cash for her to remove it. Of course she had to use a calculator to do so. In reality, it I hadn't asked, I would have been charged the extra fee even though I paid cash. That's called grifting. And they should name this place the The Grifty Crab because the whole experience was overpriced, under whelming, just plain wrong. A real tourist trap. Seems as if Laurel has plenty of places like this since they got their new found "fame" from the "hit" TV series. No thanks. But if you want to experience it yourself, check it out. All these "great" reviews are written by folks who don't know any better and/or don't care to. But heed my advice, no crab lost its life for those patties, and no one who has a palate above school lunch grade would eat here. read more

Don't do it. Drive on. The wait staff is unhelpful and vague, and it seems to be all part of the set up here. Many items on the menu have no price, so they just make it up as they go. For instance, I got a side salad and paid $6. No price on the menu. Got a "standard" side of okra that was supposed to be cheaper than the "premium" side of broccoli I got. Paid $4 for the okra and $3 for the broccoli. When I asked about it, I was told several things on the menu aren't priced and that's just "how the system does it." So, I paid $44 for two bowls of unfortunate tasting potato soup, two side salads, broccoli, okra and pizza sticks. Oh....and when it says "grilled" on the menu, it means breaded and fried. Great experience for our first time to the Blue Crab Grill. Starting with Rosie our server... great attitude and very attentive. The restaurant is small but we'll spread out. The menu is obviously slanted to fish but there was a good variety. We started with fried green tomatoes that came with a Crawfish Julie sauce. The serving was generous and the tomatoes very tasty. Next we both had the Catfish-Shrimp combination. One with fried and the other with grilled catfish. Both were fresh, tasty and seasoned perfectly.The shrimp was fried. I got there at the opening 11am. The potato soup was good with a little salt and pepper. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was served lukewarm. The plate it was served in wasn't even warm. The pasta was good but it was just disappointing to have it served as if it wasn't freshly cooked. I just took it home and put it in the microwave. The server explained its one of those dishes you have to eat quickly or it will go cold. Offered to put it in the oven. My soup was warm longer than the pasta. So here we are, this was a good place when we first went there a few months back. It just seems like the last few times we have been here that they have went down hill. The seafood tasted old crab and shrimp, we feed it to our pigs. I ordered the chicken fettuccine ,straight from the box it tasted like. We gave it to our pigs. Today I get home to eat and only have 2 tacos and no Guex sauce. I call and let them know of their error. I was offered a sorry and a promise to tell the kitchen of their error. For an appetizer we ordered the crab and shrimp dip it was okay, but had a cream cheese base not a buttery cheese base so it was very thick. For main dish we got the 6 cluster snow crab legs to share which was very good and well seasoned. Also for a main dish to share we ordered the crab cakes, I had high hope but was ultimately very disappointed. I like to consider myself a crab cake connoisseur since it is one of my favorite dishes to order and these were just not up to par. The crab meat in the cakes appeared to be fake which was shocking considering this restaurant has crab in its name. My wife and I were here on a Thursday evening. They open at 5 pm and parking is ok. It sits across from a mall so you can park there and a very short walk across the parking lot has you at the door. We arrived just before 5 to ensure quick seating. We were seated quickly and our drinks came promptly. The staff was very nice and accommodating. First order of the night was shrimp and crab dip. The cost was $8.75. It was very good. The chips had what appeared to be Old Bay Seasoning as well as parsley sprinkled on it. The dip was a bit over seasoned in my opinion...still very good. I got the Seafood Steamer for my entree. I could tell right away it had been done for quite some time. They call it a STEAMER for a reason...my one wasn't steaming, or even close to steaming. I got it hot as you can order three different heat levels. The flavor and fire level was good. It's just when you get a steamer it should be steaming. The cost was around $35. All in all an average place. Nothing Red Lobster couldn't do, and do better in my opinion (I'm not a Red Lobster fan either). I give it 3 stars. So excited to try it. Was literally never even acknowledged to get a drink order in. I waited for at least 20 minutes before I gave up on even getting a hi, except from the hostess when she was seating me. Other tables experienced the same. I get it, I was one person so my tip wouldn't have been higher than probably 10$, and you're going to make more off a table of 6....but does that mean I shouldn't have even been served? TWO tables behind me were both acknowledged and placed drink orders and received their drinks. There was a line out the door to be seated. I'm super disappointed. I tried to order on line, but it was challenging and the menu is not the same as the restaurant. I finally called to order. I arrived and grabbed a menu to find more sides then I was told on the phone. I asked of I could change a side to another and was told it was too late. I had ordered five minutes prior to arriving and waited over 15 minutes for my order. Really, no time to change salad to steamed broccoli? Seemed the hostess was not interested in walking back and asking. So the food. Sweet potato fries were luke warm and tasted old. I actually didn't finish them. The shrimp we're really the only good part of the meal. But there were only seven of them! $20? The side salad wasn't bad, like all side salads mostly lettuce. And no napkins or utensils. I guess they want to make sure you don't eat and drive. Doubt this will be a place I will frequent. This is a new restaurant that recently opened in the old Pizza Hut location on Hwy. 15 North and Bush Dairy Road. Currently it is only opened for dinner but I was told during my visit that it will start opening up for lunch in January. I went for dinner last week. Even though this place has been open for a few months it was very busy the weeknight I attended. This night I had to wait about 15 minutes for a table. After looking at the menu and seeing several things I wanted to try, I decided on the Parmesan shrimp and crab dip as an appetizer and then the seafood Alfredo for the entree. I also ordered sweet tea to drink. The appetizer arrived about 10 minutes later. See pic. There were many chips to go with the dip. I thought the dip was good and warm. (3). If you order this for a group you will run out of chips before the dip runs out. For 2 people though it is adequate. The entree arrive about 10 minutes later with a salad. See pic. I really liked the salad. It was made with quality ingredients and larger than expected. (3.5). The seafood Alfredo was not that large but with the salad and appetizer filled me up. I liked the entree and thought it was good too (3). Sweet tea was very good (4). While I give my experience here a 3 I wouldn't hesitate to return and will when I am in town. For Laurel, this is the only true seafood restaurant in town with the exception of Bosun Joes in the Mall. For now I will give a 3 and consider raising it after another visit or two. P.S. I came by for a second visit a few months later for lunch and ordered a shrimp po boy with fries. The po boy was a 3.5 and was good. The fries were standard frozen out of a bag and I gave them a 2.5. I do still think this is a 3 restaurant which means A-OK. read more

Our server was great but our experience was less than satisfying mainly b/c of the manager's conduct. We had the seafood sampler and some of the items were pretty good, especially the catfish. But when I mentioned to the server there was something wrong with the fries - they were cold and stale as though they'd been out awhile. Not really a big deal to me but when she told the manager, the manager didn't have the decency to make it right or offer a different side. Instead, He/she sent the server back with the message that there was nothing wrong with the fries and that they were fresh. So, he/she wouldn't make more b/c the result would be the same. Pretty rude and cowardice to send the server back to deliver a message rather than come deal with it themselves. I had also ordered a cup of gumbo as an appetizer which was served tepid but I didn't make that known to the server. It wasn't that big a deal and I just accepted that most of our food was going to be mediocre, which happens sometimes. My only complaint, which is a minor one, is the dining area could use more seafood venue type thematic art and decor, more ambiance. My husband and I don't go out anymore so we use DoorDash a lot! While staying at the campground in Laurel, which, by the way, is a great place, we ordered dinner from this restaurant. One of THE BEST meals we've had in a long time! It was so good, we decided to forego our usual "Friday night" pizza and order from them a second night. That meal was just as good. It was so salty and thick it we couldn't eat it. Potato soup was even worse. We had canned soup that was better. Salad was edible, but underwhelming. Truly one of the worst meals we've had in years.
