It's difficult to find something positive about this place. The service was nice but the food is terrible. We had gumbo that had crunchy, uncooked rice in it. Full of anticipation, read the reviews. Oysters, good! Well we went in at a little before noon on a Friday. Four patrons already there. Thought "well, we are still a little bit early". Were seated and about five minutes later our server, pleasant, arrived and took our drink orders. I asked her when the oysters had arrived. She went off and conferred with the hostess before going to the kitchen. "Yesterday". Great, I'd like a half dozen, raw. We also ordered the shrimp and crab dip. Our iced tea arrived a few minutes later. We talked about Laurel a bit and our food arrived. The very first oyster left my mouth as fast as it went in! Ok, a little lemon to clear my palate, let's try another. OMG, they're off! The waitress came to check on us and I Told her that the oysters were off and she took them away. Kind of expected someone, chef, manager, anyone to come and check in -- dead air. She came back and we asked for the check, which she went to get. When she came back with the check she did say that the manager asked if there was anything else I might like. I politely declined, all I wanted to do was get out of there without getting poisoned. I can't even with this place. EPIC FAIL. It is comical how terrible it was. I feel forced to give a couple of stars because the food tasted fine. And if they could get their act together, even though it has the feel of an old Pizza Hut, it could be a decent place to eat. The fish had a crispy crunch to it, the hush puppies were great, as was the cheese dip to dip them in. Coleslaw was tasty. (Although, I really think they may have mixed up the tartar sauce with coleslaw dressing because it was not good. It was sweet and sticky like coleslaw dressing. Didn't have anything in it but sticky sweet something...And, with so many problems, I had to pick my battles.) One main problem? Their menu has recently changed. My mom was bummed because she loves the shrimp tacos and they used to come with three of them on a plate but they must've realized what an awesome deal that was. They have since changed the menu and only offer two for the same price. This place needs some serious help. The waitress was attentive yet apologetic about the new menu, which she wasn't familiar with. When we asked her for the kid's dessert, she said they don't have dessert for kids anymore. When we said it was on the "new" menu, she went and checked the menu and then went to the kitchen where we could hear her ask the kitchen staff what dessert they plan on having for kids. She came back with a JUICE BOX! which she apologetically offered to my son. Really people? Come on. But, wait...that's not all that happened! We showed our waitress that they offer through Yelp a 10% discount upon check-in. The poor waitress had no clue how to ring that up so back to the kitchen she goes trying to figure out what to do, meanwhile we could hear the discussions going on... finally she comes back with a military discount on our ticket. I handed her my card. She's gone for an eternity, it seems. She says she had to run it twice. So I check my bank app to make sure it didn't get run through twice. IT DID! So, back to the kitchen she goes to fix it. (2 hours later...not really...just felt that way) Ticket was fixed, we were done with the fiasco, ready to get out of there, and feeling the need to let people -at least the absent owners - know what this place has and needs to remedy. With all of the great dining options in Laurel and nearby Hattiesburg, they really need to step up their game. read more

My mom ordered fish and I know from personal experience that it's not even that hard to cook. I got the seafood gumbo where there was no shrimp crab or anything and it kind of tasted like burnt soup . My dad got crab and all of the seasoning was on the outside and the sauce was terrible. The meat had not a drop if seasoning. My little brother got chicken and whatever batter they used made it taste terrible and he is 10 months old and will eat anything, but he did not eat that. read more

The best crab dip ever! A little sad that they don't serve alcohol. Crab cakes aren't jumbo or big but they do have a great taste, the crawfish sauce they smother them in does dull the great flavor of the crab cakes though. The crawfish sauce is great, but just a lot going on for crab cakes. A drizzle would do of the crawfish sauce; but classic remoulade would be phenomenal. I've been here a handful of times over the last year and a half or so, and EVERYTHING has always been fantastic (far above expectations). Stopped in on a Monday at 1:40, a little hesitant as they closed at 2:00. No need to be concerned. Lady at front counter welcomed us with a boisterous Hey y'all! Told her we were starved and she responded that we had come to the right place. Our waitress Sam came over right away for our drink order and answered the few questions. Hubs ordered blackened catfish with shrimp sauce, grilled shrimp for me. The salad's were fresh, crisp and topped with cheese and bacon. Next came our meals. The blackened catfish and shrimp sauce were so good, he did not even touch his potato which was a good size and served loaded. Said he could eat just the sauce on crackers any time. My shrimp was perfectly grilled and the potato fluffy and yummy. While speaking to Sam (servers were chatty with their tables about the restaurant, where folks were from, etc), we learned that all foods are made to order including that wonderful shrimp sauce and sometimes when they were busy, it could take a while for entrees to be served while that goodness is being made for you and all those before you. I love Blue Crab Grill. There is a wide selection on the menu and everything is very reasonably priced. For appetizers, the Fried Clawfingers, the Louisianan Boudin Balls, the Pupp and Cheese basket, and the Parmesan Shrimp & Crab Dip are my favorites. My top pick for entree is the Catfish "Filet" Platter. They have the best catfish hands down! There is no fishy taste and it is fried to perfection. My other "go-to" entree is the Shrimp Tacos and you can choose whether you want the shrimp fried, grilled, or blackened. I always go with the blackened and I have never been disappointed. If you are in the mood for a burger, I love the Big Easy! If you have never had a fried egg on your burger, then you have to try this one. It is absolutely delicious! Being a mother, a child's menu is everything! The children's menu is very reasonably priced too and the portion size is perfect. Once again, the catfish is our favorite and for my kids to be picky, they devour it! All kids plates come with a drink, choice of fries or veggies, and includes a fruit cup. All for $5.99. I think Blue Crab Grill is a great addition to the Laurel area and I am happy it has opened! read more

The facility is at one end of a mall and appears to have somewhat "inherited" a less-than-appealing restroom space - - it could use some clean-up and enhancement given that it requires a short stroll down a big hallway to get to it. They lost our reservation and we had to go and eat at a the Mexican restaurant because it was the only place with availability on Valentine's Day. They only apologized after making a list of excuses and then accused me of bullying when I said that I was going to write a bad review based off of my horrible experience. Look I have been to both of their restaurants dozens of times but this was so disturbing to us that we had to post it. While I realize this isn't New Orleans for the price there should have been more seafood on the poboy.
