I normally don't bother writing reviews very often but this place went above and beyond in one area (service) so I just wanted to make sure that was recognized. :) I was looking for a quick lunch and happened to walk by this place. The lady (owner?) working the cashier is one of the friendliest people I've ever met. I feel like you just don't get that kind of small business service anymore post-covid. She was quick, attentive, friendly, and let me try some complementary housemade milk tea. Really sweet woman! I had fun just chatting with her a bit. Food itself was good - I had one of the speciality rolls (101 I think?) and it was pretty good. Prices were also fair and reasonable, especially in the current economy. It's definitely on the no frills side but I was looking for something quick so that worked out great for me. If you're looking for just a quick sushi lunch this is a good spot! read more

I feel really bad giving this place 3 stars because the owner is clearly a sweet lady and I don't want to deter people from coming here. But I do want to encourage people to support this restaurant at a time when the prices help justify the cost which is during their lunch time (before 2:30pm). The other reviews did raise my expectations to a degree that wasn't fair to this restaurant so maybe that was the issue for me. The food is what I'd consider more homestyle meal: eating here feels like eating at a caring friend's place. It's certainly made with care! But overall it's okay. I got the tuna sashimi: overall presentation was beautiful and she really wanted to make sure I had enough wasabi and ginger with it. But the fish quality was on par with sashimi I've bought at HMart and the cuts on the fish were jagged. I got free edamame while waiting which I appreciated, but again it was under salted and a completely cool. I didn't mind who cool it was because I've had that at other Japanese places, but the edamame didn't taste the freshest. Also the restaurant was hot which might be a personal bias because it did make me a little concerned at preparation and storage. Again I think this is a totally fine place to eat at especially if you're craving something homey and comforting. But the reviews made me think the food would feel like closer to a professional restaurant just in a no frills, humble setting. I think maybe the cooked dishes might offer more, but overall I'd probably come back for lunch if I was in the area. read more

Man I want to rate this place higher because the service was next level. Everything was quick and contained, the cashier was extremely nice and the vibes were great. The spicy tuna itself was fine, definitely passable but nothing to write home about. The gyoza was delicious but I've also never met a gyoza I didn't like (except for frozen buldak dumplings which are disgusting). The edamame were given to me for free while I awaited my order and they were a fine snack. Just plain edamame nothing crazy, no insane seasoning salt or sauce but just a classic staple food/snack. That's kind of how the entire restaurant felt, nothing new or different just solid food from good people but maybe a couple decades behind in terms of atmosphere. Don't get me wrong I loved the old school look of their menu but I couldn't help the feeling theres just something more they could work on to make them stand out from the crowd. Overall I'd say it's a great cheap spot and the service will make you want to come back for more even if the food is not up to your par. Shoutout to the people working there once again, I felt like they really enhanced my experience. My husband & I were in Redwood City for some work when hunger pangs hit & because we both favored sushi, we looked up Yelp for a recommendation. Blue Fin Sushi came up & we decided to try it out. Since it was 3:30 in the afternoon, the place was empty but we were warmly greeted by the hostess who proceeded to make us feel welcome. We ordered the Lion King roll, Dragon roll, a side of chicken katsu, edamame & some miso soup. Everything was delicious & the service was fantastic! At a very reasonable price, I thought it was a fabulous late lunch early dinner. Hot tea was in the house with generous refills. Came here during the week for their popular lunch special and it did not disappoint! For less than $20 I got chicken teriyaki (get it with crispy skin), salad and California rolls. Came back here in March 2024 for the first time in years. Ate here weekly 2011-2015 and today was pleasantly surprised to find the same family running it the same way. Vivacious solo "vocalist" Junko fronting this band of two, backed by the steady "percussion" of her reliable fish chef. The high quality of their saba, my fav fish and increasingly harder to procure, brought back tears of joy all over again. So I told myself "every Thursday get out of the office and explore". So last Thursday I walked by this interesting Japanese restaurant. From the outside it was a little unassuming. One would probably walk by it and never see it. But today I decided to try it. I was greeted warmly by a Japanese lady who super friendly and helpful. I think the place was run by a husband and wife duo. I ordered the Unagi don lunch plate and an order of gyoza. She suggested getting a half order for a much cheaper price as it was a lot food so I said yes. It took a few extra minutes to get my food and it was warm and fresh. However it wasn't a great presentation. The taste was quite normal but it was refreshingly different. I sat there and enjoyed my meal. Bottom line service was great but food was just ok. I saw on their menu from 10 months ago that a tuna roll and a hamachi roll was $4.99. So I go ahead and called this place for Togo since it's near my work place. So I ordered a tuna roll and hamachi roll and added avocado inside. When I got the bill, their roll ended being $13 each. I don't know how it jumped that much in 10 months. It could almost pass as a hole in a wall but that's where the good food is hidden. I was having a lunch break from Jury duty and decided to walk around for a quick bite. I stumbled upon this place and wanted something simple; Chicken Teriyaki. I was surprised that they asked whether I wanted the order with or without the [chicken] skin. When I ordered it, it was much better than I had expected... the skin was wonderfully crispy and chicken itself was not flooded with teriyaki sauce. The presentation and quality of the bento exemplary. This was simply the best Chicken Teriyaki Bento I've ever had. They even provided a free small bowl of Edamame and asked if I wanted to cleanse my hands with alcohol. I can see that they don't have the best amenities, but the customer service easily compensated for it. I can't recommend this place for anything else, but I would personally love to come back to try their other entrees or rolls. read more

Comes with rice and salad.. I like the salad dressing... a soy/sesame concoction. Tempura dipping sauce is a bit lacking in volume. Cannot dip using the sauce container, I just poured it over the tempura. 2 piece of each: Kabocha, shrimp, carrot & broccoli. Shrimp was a bit small, but ok in flavor. Good chicken teriyaki. Smoky but not drowned in sauce. Looks like the skin if you want it is served in between each piece of chicken. This is actually a winner. Giving this place 4 out of 5 stars. read more

This is so hard for me to write, because this is a place I wanted to love. But on February tenth of this year, my friend and I had a dangerous experience at Blue Fin Sushi. My friend has a very severe food allergy. She discloses this information to every food worker at every food establishment, every time, and asks (and re-asks) about cross-contamination before even considering eating somewhere. We did this standard procedure before our meal, as we have done there on past visits. The server assured us before ordering that there would be no cross-contamination, and no allergens in the food. We checked again as the food was delivered: again, all assurances were made by the server, and since we have eaten here before without incident, she and I had no reason to stress. However, the chef made a mistake, using the wrong version of an ingredient. My friend had already eaten several pieces when the server ran over to the table to share the very bad news that my friend had just ingested the allergen. They were gracious with us, apologetic, but the damage was done. My friend subsequently spent a week in the hospital and required surgeries. Plural. On the upside, they are a mega energetic and friendly staff. The counter worker usually brings over complementary edamame. Their miso soup is mild and tasty. Their elaborate Victoria's Secret roll takes a LOT of work to make. Lunch for three costs an average of $55. For my friend (or her health insurance), however, lunch cost upwards of two hundred thousand dollars. read more

A place that I wanted to like but their teriyaki chicken was way oversauced and dry. I was in the mood for teriyaki and happened to pass by this friendly-looking take-out bento box place in sleepy downtown RC. They offer all kinds of take out teriyakis, curries, and sushi. Tried the teriyaki over rice ($5.95) and it came with a decent portion of chicken and rice. But there was so much sauce that it looked like the teriyaki sauce was the main dish and the chicken was just the condiment that came with it. (See picture.) The sauce was no bad but I definitely prefer less. And unfortunately the chicken was rather dry and tasted like it's been cooking on the grill for quite a while. Bottom line: Nice Asian lady who served me and nice atmosphere for a quick Japanese bento bite, but can't recommend the food.
