Glad I found this little gem! It's a family owned shop and all the servers are extremely nice and actually very attentive! I loved that they checked in often and made sure we were okay. The portions are very generous as well and all the rolls we tried were delicious. As a non avocado lover, the avocado slices were pretty large (but to some that can be pro). The fish in the chirashi was good, I did wish they dialed down on the sauce in the chirashi and some of the rolls. I am a sauce lover but some things either don't need sauce or may have too many combinations of sauces on it. I will definitely come back. Furagu Sushi on 25th Avenue was such a pleasant surprise! The restaurant is unassuming from the outside, but dont be fooled, because the sushi was excellent. Fish is fresh, portions are generous, and prices are reasonable. We got a variety of sushi rolls like spider roll, caterpillar roll and rainbow roll. The service is quick and friendly. The husband and wife team are very nice. There's also big screen tv's on which was showing NBA games when we went. Service is ultra friendly and food is good although I'd recommend that they wrap their sushi a little tighter (Ca Roll base used for many Roll Options, wrap it tighter so that it doesn't fall apart). Sashimi also fresh. We liked the three rolls that we ordered. We also ordered cooked food of: - Agedashi Tofu - consisting of large chunks of fried lightly battered tofu, bonito flakes and sweet soy. - Two Item Combo of Medium Rare Teriyaki Grilled Beef with sauce on the side, Chicken Katsu which was light and addictively crispy. I'd go back for this combo which also includes 4 pieces of California Roll, and Salad with Miso dressing. I liked the mackerel, it was nicely grilled, juicy, and a good amount. Everything else was just good or OK but I need to bring home the rest of the tonkatsu and chicken teriyaki. They look great but taste is underwhelming. Lion King is probably the best of three, but it is drenched in mayo sauce. The fish is not fresh fish and its razor thin. 1/5 for sushi. We have also ordered a beef sukiyaki. 90% are Napa cabbage. Since I was craving for something soupy, I am good with this. But then, it's not something I would come back for it. 2/5. After tips, it costs us $90 for the three of us. I don't think it justifies the cost with the quality of this meal. Why still 2 stars? Servers are all very friendly and it seems they have a lot of old customers who they know well. I hope they would improve the food quality, so new customers would want to come back again. For now, I would not recommend this place at all. Hard pass. read more

Racism. I walked in to order lunch no hello or greeting. I looked at the menu to order and asked to order, person taking my order suggested to go before i even told him what i wanted. I asked to eat here he said oh yes ok. Then told me i have to pay before i eat. 3 white people walk in to order he greets them with a smile even offers to seat them, they order for like a normal dine in experience eat there food then pay. We happened to be in San Mateo craving sushi! We found this little spot that was open at 8pm on a Sunday. The sushi was made fresh and the fish tasted of good quality. I really liked my sushi rolls with spicy tuna and shrimp tempura. My mom liked her charashi bowl but thought there was a little TOO much fish haha! This is a great spot to go regularly. San Mateo Roll - It was ok. Spicy Tuna Hand Roll - good flavor with a market value. Cucumber and Avocado Roll - standard, enjoyed. Lion King Special Roll - I was overwhelmed by the mayo sauce. Hawaiian Roll - good. Chicken Teriyaki (App) - thin cut pounded out and cooked as well as it could be, but the value didn't hold. Not worth the price of admission. Gyoza - so/so. I'd pass next time. Also value is questionable. Vegetable Tempura - good. The hot breaded items were packed in containers that didn't have a cut-out, so I had to open those for the car ride home. It was a good meal, but nothing to place it above so many other good sushi restaurants. If it were my neighborhood, it'd be my local. But it's not a drivable return. I found this wonderful sushi restaurant a few weeks ago and have been back every week since. I've brought my friend and family to try it also. The best shrimp tempura ever!!! It's huge! CA Roll is creamy and delicious. Salmon skin is thin and crunchy beyond belief. They also serve Orion in bottles. Owners are warm, welcoming and very very attentive. I came in on a really hot weather and it was a bit musty inside. That's ok tho cause I was hungry! Lol. I'm stuck in between a 3 or a 4 star. First experience was ok. I liked how Chef's ngiri sushi choices were of these types of fish, but it didn't taste as fresh as I hoped for. Maybe my expectations were too high especially reading all the yelp reviews. Very good food. We've come a couple of times with relatives. We've not gotten the sushi, but have stuck with bento boxes. Good sized portions and very tasty. The tempura is just as we like it.....crispy, but not overly doughy. The sashimi in the bento was very fresh. I had chirashi one time and, again, a good sized portion with very fresh food. Service was good, as they provided a couple of babies with sippy cups of water. Recommended! read more
