I've been a huge fan of Blue Fish Grill for around 15 years--since they were at their previous location. The food here is to-die for, and is certainly one of the best restaurants in the area. I have friends who visit from out of town who specifically request to go to Blue Fish during their stay! The prices are great for the quality of the food. I always opt for the build-your-own entree. This time, I chose the brisket with a side of the caramelized plantains, but I also often go with the chicken, steak, or salmon with the pesto butter. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong. The staff are very kind and the service is quick. The interior is modern and up-to-date, paralleled by its brick historic vibe exterior, as the Stangl Factory building was once a pottery/ceramic factory. Now, the building is home to Blue Fish Grill, as well as a number of other businesses including an artist-owned gallery, a large pottery studio, a medium, and a yoga and physical therapy studio. Stangl also hosts a weekly artisan farmers' market and bi-monthly live music and art events. It really is a growing creative community. Blue Fish Grill doesn't have a bar, but they do allow BYOB. This was right on the main street in the downtown area. There were plenty of tables to sit at including outdoors when accommodating. The menu was not what I was expecting as there were burritos and bowls. I was just expecting traditional fish entrees, but this was not the case. Besides this, the menu had lots of intriguing options to choose from. The staff was informative and friendly while the food came out in a timely manner. For appetizers, the plantain and black bean empanadas ($12) and curry mussels ($15) were ordered. The empanadas had a plantain dough with a black bean and queso filing. There was also chipotle crème and queso fresco on top. There were 4 small empanadas, and they were filled appropriately. The plantain dough was unique and went well with the toppings present. My only issue was the chipotle crème being too sour creamy. I thought there could have been a little more chipotle incorporated. The mussels were of the Prince Edward Island variety, and they were sauteed in a red Thai coconut curry broth. There were about 24 or so present and some were a little fishy. The curry was excellent, however. The broth was spicy, but not overbearing. The wood grilled bread was nice to soak up the leftover broth. I had a tuna burrito ($18) with the wasabi combination. The wasabi combination consisted of jasmine rice, pickled ginger, wasabi aioli, Ter unagi sauce, toreados, crunchy quinoa, and sesame seeds. This was well put together. The burrito was stuffed, and the tuna was cooked to a perfect rare temperature. The wasabi aioli was apparent as well as the crunchy quinoa. It was very tasty. I also tried a mahi mahi bowl with the California combination. It was alright. The other person at my party substituted the sriracha with a green goddess dressing and I do not think I liked that combination with the mahi mahi. Will I go back? Definitely. read more

I found out about Blue Fish Grill through a few Facebook groups I joined after my wife and I recently moved into the area. Unfortunately for us, I learned about it after they shifted to take-out only. We both ordered the Baja Mahi tacos, I got the grilled fish with mixed greens, and my wife chose the fried fish with grilled asparagus. We tried each other's tacos and seemed to prefer the one the other had. I also tried the grilled asparagus and it was excellent. Lunch at Blue Fish Grill in Flemington is a great experience. My family & I go there together and with each of our friends, separately. The menu changes so returning to see "what's new" is always a treat. The atmosphere has changed over the years an my last visit before the holidays I was very pleased. My friend & I enjoyed a casual lunch. We wanted a beer with our choices but they are a BYOB spot. No big deal, we just had not thought of it prior. One of the best restaurants in Flemington and absolutely my favorite. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu especially the nightly specials. The waiters are great, so friendly and informative. This place is alway great! I don't think I've had anything here I don't like. The beef nachos were delicious, the meat was super flavorful and tender. It was a little too cheesy for me and wish it had more toppings became mainly just meat and chips for me. They did have pickled Jalepenos which added a kick. They are huge! For my entree, I tried the tuna tacos which are always delicious. I've had them before and they are always super fresh. I always add Jalepenos and get chipotle Mayo on the side! So happy to say we are back to the Blue Fish Grill after a six-year hiatus. Nothing specific kept us away other than the pace of life and lack of opportunity to visit Flemington. I was so nice to see many familiar faces as we came to the door and the new menu made what was always GREAT all the better. The beef nachos are an incredible appetizer, be sure you have lots of friends to share it it's massive. The new rice bowl's are wonderful, the California bowl with tuna was fantastic. Of course you can never go wrong with the Baja tacos, they did not disappoint. And the Calimax burrito another favorite completed our selections this visit. We came here because a few months ago we attended a wedding at the Stangl factory that they catered and we were quite impressed by the food and omg the chips! So on a date night we came here finally and we had a great time! Nice rustic/casual atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating options. My husband got the steak and I got the mahi grilled tacos. We both loved our dishes. Very fresh tasting and lots of flavor. Great service with pitchers coming around for drink refills and the owner/manager seemed very present and hands on with guests and running of the establishment. The chips were once again great, though I wouldn't mind if they had twice as much seasoning it's so good. We were stuffed chicken, but the salted caramel brownie sounded so good we went for it and boy it didn't disappoint! I am usually hesitant to write a review but felt it necessary to review my experience at Blue Fish Grill. We made reservations for 5 people at 6:15. We were promptly seated upon arrival, upstairs at a round folding table with a table cloth. We sat and waited with our menus. A waiter came upstairs and said he would be with us shortly. He then proceeded to have a loud and obnoxious conversation with the table next to us for 20 minutes. We were not provided water, we were just sitting there. He had absolutely no sense of urgency as though we all weren't sitting there waiting. He had a young woman assisting him who never came by with waters or silverware. His conversation with the table was offensive making jokes about Jewish people. We tried waiting to see if he would come over and he did not. He only said something to us when we all got up and left. I love this restaurant. We came back for another fabulous meal. I cannot believe this place has been open for 16 years already. It's one of the few places that keeps getting better with age. My husband had the chicken bahn mi sandwich which was amazing. The chicken was very crispy and had the most delicious flavors. I had the grilled mahi with delicious sweet plantains and perfectly grilled asparagus. I requested two sauces on the side, the soy ginger garlic and the green goddess. Both were great. My son got the skirt steak with fries and my daughter got the popcorn shrimp with fries. The skirt steak had a wonderful seasoning on it and was cooked according to our desired doneness. Everything was amazing but the fries were out of this world. They are on the verge of having a cult following! They are matchstick size and have a sweet-salty-spicy seasoning on them. Came to BFG on a recommendation from a local. It is located in a super neat area of the town; plenty of other shops/stores. Very high quality food here for very reasonable prices. I went for the Cali Mex bowl off their lunch menu. Wow. The skirt steak based bowl was amazing. I mean the skirt steak was something I feel you would only see or have at an upscale restaurant. And especially for that price. Between the steak and all that was in the bowl, it was beyond a generous portion. I was very much satisfied after my meal. We attended an event for an animal rescue at the brewery that is local to this restaurant and they had a little stand where they were selling three different types of tacos. Being vegetarians or rather pescatarians there was only one option for us so we were kind of ready to just go someplace else after we were done at the brewery but the young lady said oh you know you can actually call the restaurant and will deliver anything off the full menu that made me so happy. I wanna start off by saying that everyone that I interacted with at work there was super sweet and helpful from the girls operating the stand at the event to the young lady that answered the phone and took my order they were also pleasant I am from northern Jersey and up here the people can be a little bit let's just say snappy so it was very refreshing to deal with a nice Jersey people. We placed our order in my God her the price is reasonable what you got down there for $50 would probably be one appetizer and one entrée up here even if that. We went with the Ahi tuna nachos to start and then my boyfriend had shrimp with grilled asparagus and some sort of red pepper sauce and I chose salmon with a pesto sauce and jasmine rice. It did take quite a bit to get the food I took about an hour so I was a little nervous because I didn't know how I felt about eating fish after waiting that long specially in the heat. But I have to say it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time I love the idea that they actually had the nachos in a separate bag and the toppings in another container so that the nachos wouldn't get mushy I've never seen a business up I may do that before so I was super impressed. Both of our entrées were fresh and tasty and I had enough to bring home for the next day. If you can check them out I would say so to! You won't regret it! I made a reservation for four at 6:15 PM outdoor seating. I confirmed my reservation at 3:00 PM for the reservation. We all arrived early but were made to wait. When I inquired about being seated outside under an umbrella, the hostess had a nasty attitude. Most of the tables on their patio were empty. When I asked about the two small tables with two seats a piece, she said we couldn't sit there because she was going to put those two small tables for a large group. Those two tables could only seat 4 people, which was my reservation. We called Dolce Restaurant on Main Street and they accepted our reservation and were able to seat us outside with NO PROBLEM! Don't ever think the blue Fish Grill will honor your reservation! We will never WASTE our money or time with them!!! read more

It's been a few months since I've been here, but another amazing meal enjoyed by us tonight. Their regular menu is fresh, delicious and always spot on, but their specials are amazing as well! Whoever the chef is, bravo to your creativity! The toughest decision for me was whether to have the usuals or go creative with a special. So I compromised - always good delicious ahi tuna nachos, and a new special, the Spicy Thai Peanut Chicken, was out of this world! If you like Asian style flavors, BFG should be on your list. But their latin-American and south-western inspired cuisine is wonderful too, like the BFG tacos, and whatever their special is, choose it. You won't be disappointed! read more
