My wife and I came here for her birthday. We started off with a glass of Pinot Project Pinot Noir for her and a glass of William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon for me. They brought out piping hot bread which was very light and airy. We chose to skip appetizers. My wife had the Tavern linguini but made with penne instead. She thoroughly enjoyed it and cleaned off her plate. I had the NY strip steak served medium. It was served on whipped potatoes with broccoli and button mushrooms. The steak had a good crust while the inside was still juicy. For dessert, we went with the peanut butter brownie and a scoop of maple walnut ice cream ( they were out of the bourbon butter pecan ice cream). The brownie was like a large, warm peanut butter cookie. The maple walnut ice cream was not overly maple (thankfully). It was very close to butter pecan. Our reservation was for 6pm. They had a piano player beginning at 6:30. We were seated in the room to the right when you walk in. It has a very rustic feel with the exposed wood beam ceiling and wood burning fireplace. read more

Harvest Moon is located in the out-of-the-way quaint town of Ringoes, NJ. This restaurant has been here a long time. We recently went to the Harvest Moon as a party of seven and it was one of the very few times that ALL of us had great cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert without a complaint! This alone makes for a wonderful evening when you know everyone in your party is having a great time. We had fried oysters, crab cakes and a potato leek soup, all great for appetizers. The majority of the party had duck with one selecting the filet mignon and another the salmon, again all great! There was a pianist playing all night and a fire in the dinning room making for a very cozy and warm environment. The wait staff was fantastic, with great recommendations. The negatives are minor - decor needs to be updated with Laura Ashley type wall paper matching the drapes (flash back to the 90's) and the lighting was a bit too bright, lastly, this is an upscale country Inn, so bring your wallet. read more

We were so impressed by our experience at the Harvest Moon Inn and really look forward to visiting again. We had noticed a lovely vegetable garden in the back when we parked which we asked our fantastic waitress Margaret about. She proudly explained that many of the vegetables served were fresh from the chefs garden. I didn't even take a bite yet at that point and I was elated. As an appetizer we had the Tempura Shrimp which....was the best I ever had. The sauce was tremendous. For dinner we had the NY Strip steak and the Beef Tenderloin which were really cooked to perfection. Lastly for dessert we had the Chocolate Mousse which was also very delicious. The presentation of all aspects of the dinner were on a fine dining level and something that pleasantly surprised us. We ordered a dish they recommended, at 6pm, and they came back to say they no longer have it, they recommended another one and what a wonder - they didn't have it either. After more than an hour, as we complained, the dishes arrived - most of them cold. There were many things I enjoyed about harvest moon and some that were a little disappointing. But let's start with the good. THE CRAB CAKES- a-mazing. So fresh and flavorful, I could quiet literally eat 5 servings of those they were so delicious. The veggie spring rolls- tasty with an herby forward flavor but still very good. The duck confit ravioli were definitely more dumpling and doughy than duck so I would maybe second guess that dish. As chilled seared tuna was refreshing and tasty, a definite must have as was the seared tuna entree which my boyfriend gobbled right up. My dish on the other hand, the sautéed shrimp really fell short. The shrimp it's self had alot of good flavor but the rest, completely bland. The pasta tasted like water left after boiling plain pasta leaving the shrimp as the sole dish rescuer. As to the hazelnut mousse, it was good, but he sure you love hazelnuts because there are alot of them. Although the staff was extremely kind and warm, Juan i belive our serves name was, was a a total gem. Sadly, the kitchen was very slow and bring out courses and that seemed to occur for all the tables in the room. BUT that aside, there was also a live pianist which made the wait a dream. Each song melting into the next was so relaxing yet exciting, had to tip the man on our way out. I would come back just to listen to him play. This place was magnificent. The food was excellent. We had an early wine tasting and we were feeling hungry, this places was very close to Unionville winery and I'm so glad we got to try it. Food was amazing, we had the calamari appetizer, salmon and sirloin steak as an entries and woooow best steak I ever had!!!! We did not make dinner reservations for Valentine's Day probably due to lack of planning and not crazy about the Valentine's restaurant scene... So we stopped in to The Harvest Moon Inn for lunch instead and were pleasantly impressed (not surprised). We have been to the Inn for dinner many times and always had a very good experience but it has been awhile. The service was very attentive and we had menus and drinks straight away.. I ordered the Soup of the Day which was a deliicious Butternut Squash Bisque and also ordered the Asian Chicken Meatballs. Very tasty. BF ordered the Burger which was cooked correctly to medium rare and was huge! Melted Jack cheese and sautéed onions. Very good! Fries were also hot and tasty. The tavern is a great place for a fine lunch. I want to come back for the Burger! It looked great! read more

Ah, The Harvest Moon. Considered one of the top restaurants in NJ. The chef/owner is truly an artist. The combination of ingredients, the presentation, the taste sensation is all amazing. The menu is seasonal so my recommendations may not be there when you go. But trust me, you won't go wrong with any choice. The restaurant is housed in an old stone farmhouse. Giant bar with a piano and tables to one side, more formal dining rooms to the other. If you sit on the tavern side, in addition to the main menu there is a tavern menu that features less expensive, less formal items. However, it is not available Saturday nights. Perfect for a romantic night out, or even for groups and private parties. Unless you're sitting on the tavern side, ordering from the tavern menu, consider it a special night out. Dress up and be prepared to fork over some dough! The only downside to the Harvest Moon is the service can be spotty. The reason for this, I believe, is the high turnover. I know someone who used to work here and the owner isn't happy with anything less than perfection. He has been known to fire his entire wait staff at one time. Let me start by saying that the steak sandwich is second to none. Ambience: tremendous. The service; outstanding. We had dealt with Karen hosting on a Friday night. We had called multiple times to push back our reservation expecting to be the annoying, frustrating customers who were holding the restaurant up. By Karen's tone and sweetness, we were assured it was just fine. When we arrived we were greeted by Karen who explained that although we had requested Tavern side, due to a party the next day, it would be of our best interest to dine in the dining area instead. We were in fact pleased with this even though she apologized for an inconvenience that didn't exist. She was fantastic. The Harvest Moon inn is lucky to have someone as caring as Karen setting the tone before each meal enjoyed at this fine establishment. Was two pieces of overcooked tuna that looked like it was pulled out of the freezer sitting on a bed of wet overcooked flavorless rice and pieces of broccoli. Presentation was bad and the taste of the tuna was even worse...fishy. If you plan on acting like you have fresh tuna ($37!) then serve fresh tuna, not frozen grade. Worst part is waiter noticed nothing was eaten and never asked about meal quality. read more

What a great experience at The Harvest Moon! We had dinner on Saturday night and just loved the service, the staff's attention and of course, the food! My wife had the home-made pasta and it was done to perfection. My niece had the seared tuna with a great sear and a nicely seasoned taste. Lastly, my filet was medium, melted in my mouth and a joy to eat. :) We all shared desserts and the raspberry could and home-made vanilla ice cream were my favorites. I am so very disappointed I chose this restaurant for Father's Day. Everything was poorly seasoned and prepared. Chicken wings with not a speck of seasoning. Shrimp scampi which is a very simple dish to prepare was non recognizable. No garlic at all in the dish. Neither the pasta nor the sauce was salted. I don't know how a restaurant can charge such high prices for sub-par food. read more

Well, this place has gone downhill, for sure. As a rule, I avoid refined carbs, so when I look at a menu and EVERY SINGLE item has some sort of simple carb as a major component, I'm immediately turned off. It wasn't always like this. I ordered a bowl of the mushroom soup, which was tasty, but more like a cup. The salad I ordered was mediocre. I just wish this place was as good as it used to be. Service is always excellent, the bartender knows his stuff, and the menu always makes for some difficult decisions. This has become our "Special Occasion" restaurant, because every occasion here is special. Recently I celebrated 25 years at my company, and so six of us went to The Harvest Moon for cocktails and dinner. To begin with, the building is absolutely beautiful from the outside, with ample parking and an inviting entrance with all sorts of flora and fauna. When you get inside, you are welcomed by a spacious bar area appointed with polished brass, dark hardwoods, and shining crystal. The bar is well stocked (I'm a scotch drinker, and there was plenty from which to choose) with plenty of seating. We sat in the main dining room just in front of the fireplace, which was nice for a raw fall evening. I started with the arugula with crisp duck confit in a creamy lemon garlic vinaigrette with parmesan cheese and garlic herb croutons. This is a signature dish for them, and I crave it between visits to The Harvest Moon. We chose a few nice bottles of wine from their varied wine list. We kept it under control, and were able to find very good bottles of wine for not too much more than at a wine shop. For the entree I chose pan seared tuna with cracked black pepper, whipped potatoes, sautéed spinach, and grilled portabella mushrooms in a spicy red pepper miso vinaigrette. This was cooked to perfection (I asked for it rare, barely touching either side to the heat. ) I finished off with warm peanut butter brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate curls in a caramel and dark chocolate sauce and some coffee. It was truly divine. The Harvest Moon is a gem of central New Jersey. Try it out your next time through. read more

FOOD DESIGNED NOT TO OFFEND, BUT NEVER DELIGHTS! We returned to Harvest Moon after an absence of quite some time. This used to be our "destination restaurant" for special occasions, but the quality of the food fell off and we found places with far better food at better prices (e.g. Matt's Red Rooster in Flemington). Upon our return we found a marked improvement in the quality of service, but a disappointing degradation in the quality of the food. It was clear from the appetizer and continued on through every course that the food, while fresh and of obvious quality, was designed not to offend anyone's taste sensibilities. The flavors were so muted as to be almost nonexistent. My wife and I always trade plates during each course, and each dish was universally flavorless and uninspired - both specials and regular menu dishes. Yes, the setting and the service are "high end", but the food was merely adequate, and given the "destination restaurant" prices, Harvest Moon simply failed to deliver. I do want to make a special point about the beef tenderloin (a regular menu item). The meat was very high quality, but suffered from a distinct "off note" taste. Upon sharing plates and palates, we think this may come from the beef having been cooked over an open gas or perhaps propane flame. The off-taste smacks of "gas" in some way, and was a distinctly off-putting taste that greatly detracted from an otherwise wonderful cut of meat. In short, the food (the beef aside) was "OK" (at least we didn't have to cook and do dishes), but for the price paid it was drastically and dramatically underwhelming. It would be far better to drive into Flemington and enjoy Matt's Red Rooster Grill, or for a special occasion, to drive up to Far Hills and enjoy the truly exquisite food at Ninety Acres at Natirar. It had been some time since we last visited Harvest Moon, and as it turned out, for good reason. I don't see us choosing to return in the future. read more

Not sure if we were there on AARP discount night, but we were the only ones under 70 in the dining room. Even our waitress had more wrinkles than a Chuck Palahniuk novel. I was very excited looking at the menu. Very creative pairings for bumfreak NJ. The crabmeat and avocado salad was VERY tasty, and the scallops on the special menu melted like butter. The seafood ravioli was well executed. The steak was servicable. Ordered chocolate bread pudding for dessert, and while it was rich and delicious, was more of a brownie than a bread pudding. I suppose the atmosphere is romantic - if you're a vampire. It was dark and as cold as a tomb. Cons: - Not a very good value. I expect just a bit more out of someplace so expensive. In a nutshell: Not the worst place in the world to bring your walker. read more

I highly recommend you consider booking a table there for your next special occasion or even if you're just seeking a more refined dining experience. On our most recent visit, our party of six sat in the tavern, which offers a charming, Colonial-style setting. (Upscale dining room seating is also available.) We ordered off of both tavern and dining room menus, sampling everything from homemade pastas and pizzas to the daily vegetarian creation, and beef tenderloin sandwich -- the latter being somewhat of a favorite dish among locals. Even the pickiest in our party expressed extreme satisfaction with their meals, all commenting on the smart use of seasonal ingredients, eye-pleasing presentations, and great tastes. The wait staff earned high marks, too, for being so pleasant and attentive, but not at all hawkish or annoying. When I phoned to make the reservation, I mentioned that we would be celebrating a 65th birthday. The reservationist suggested we consider their "Birthday Dessert Sampler" -- a tray of 5 miniature (and sharable) desserts for $13. I immediately agreed to her recommendation, and asked that this dish be brought out at the end of the meal along with coffees for the table -- but without any formal mention of the dessert being made. The plan was properly executed, and was such a pleasant surprise for the birthday girl. A simple candle with the words "Happy Birthday" adorned the platter, and it was a tasteful treat for the whole party. You always pay for what you get, and the Harvest Moon Inn is no exception. Tavern menu items hover around $15, and you can expect to pay upwards of $25 a dining room menu dish. Still, the experience is worth the price. A few tips: * This place is definitely suitable for well-behaved and mild-mannered children. And there is a children's menu -- you just have to ask for it. * A piano player is featured in the tavern on Saturday nights. * The tavern menu is NOT offered on Saturday nights. * There is a fully-stocked bar and extensive wine list featuring vintage and non-vintage bottles. Wine by the glass is priced around $8 and up, and a minimal, but noteworthy, selection is offered. read more

Thanksgiving 2019..... We've come to expect holiday service, price, and fare , at even good restaurants to be disappointing, at best...... the bar is set to mediocre. What a surprise this time! This is a nice restaurant.... atmosphere on the formal side.... very colonial. It was "holiday busy" to be sure, but the service and staff was attentive and friendly. We had the fixed price, 3 course Thanksgiving diner. Everything was flavorful, well presented, and seemed fresh......Nothing seemed mass produced, overcooked or thrown together, in the way that so many places are on holidays. We weren't rushed and our experience seem to matter to the serving staff, (thanks especially to Jonah). This was our first time at the Harvest Moon Inn...... we'll be back soon to try their regular dinner menu. read more

Look out below! Stopped by for Lunch. I had the gnocchi, bacon, peas and wine reduction. The gnocchi were not good, they were hard and dense. The wine reduction sauce was ok, but it was like the gnocchi came out of the water and were placed on TOP of the sauce on a plate. So, the gnocchi were totally plain, and there's a sweet sauce beneath them and then there's bacon and peas in the center. The medium rare burger came out medium well. Best part: the bread, it was spectacular (the butter, too). I just remember it being SOOOO much better. I don't know what happened. :( read more

This restaurant offers reasonably elegant dining in a cozy atmosphere in an old, converted farm house. One can eat in either of two dining rooms or a tap room. The food is quite good and the menu has a large selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees. (Entree prices are around $30 or slightly less.) The service is quick and the waitpeople are attentive -- almost too much so. The chef comes from what I think of as the "vertical stack" school, i.e., level 1 = sauce, level 2 = vegatables, level 3 = starch option, level 4 = meat, level 5 = decoration, all arranged in a neat tower. This is a good place to go for a special occasion. One nice touch: If you are willing to fill out a form at the bottom of the check that asks for your name, address, and the dates of birthday and wedding anniversary, they'll mail you a postcard on the month of the event that can be used as a coupon that entitles you to a free sampler dessert (value = $13) with a meal. And, thank goodness, they do not come out singing "happy (whatever)" -- they just put a festive candle on the dessert and leave it at that. They have a bar, so no BYOB. So we needed a special place to go where we always feel welcomed and can relax and enjoy wonderfully made food! We chose The Harvest Moon in Ringoes!
