We just had a furnace replaced by Blue Flame. The original inspection was completed on time, and the service tech was professional and friendly. We talked to one of the employees at Home Depot and he called the Blue Flame rep. Blue Flame called us back within 10 minutes and set up an appointment for 2 hours later that day! The two salesmen that came out and were professional and very helpful. They helped us decide on the type of furnace and there was no pressure from them. The salesmen set up the furnace install for the next day. Total time from the first contact at Home Depot, to the inspection, to the sales presentation, to the finished install was 7 days. Amazing. Our AC unit died and we wanted to replace it with a heat pump, so brought in Blue Flame to get an estimate. The estimate was roughly twice what any other company gave us at around $30,000. And they couldn't itemize it. Two days later I get a phone call asking me when I wanted to book my appointment. Not IF, but WHEN. I politely told them I went with another company, and the person on the other side of the phone said they understood and wished me a good day. If that was the end of it, I wouldn't be leaving this review. Within the hour the person who did my estimate texted me. I also told them I went with someone else. Within the hour ANOTHER person from Blue Flame called me asking me when I wanted to book the replacement. I told them I have already said no 2 times today, this is my 3rd, how do I prevent a 4th. They apologized and said they'd remove my info. 2 weeks later I get an e-mail telling me they can take 15% off my origional estimate, making it only $10,000 larger than any other one I got. Told them no, still way too expensive. Get a response saying they understand and they want to find more discounts for me. Making it the 5th time I had to tell Blue Flame no. And that's what tipped me over the line to leave this review. We'd been using Blue Flame for close to 20 years through two houses (two new furnaces and one AC). But we are done using them now and moving on to someone new as their services have gone downhill, and their technicians don't always seem to know what they're doing other than finding ways to charge us more money for problems they created. Blue Flame installed our Trane furnace about 12 years ago and Rheem AC unit 10 years ago. They are both up in the attic (although AC condenser is outside in backyard). While the furnace itself has done fairly well, the AC has had problems since it was installed, primarily lots of leaks down into our bedroom and bathroom (yes, lots of damage we've had to pay for). While we've had Blue Flame over quite a few times in the past 5+ years to fix these problems, it seems that they've mostly been applying bandaids and never really got to the root of the problems. Each time they sent someone else over who thought he knew what was going on, but often just made matters worse. Well recently, we had several other companies come to assess the problems. First off, we discovered the furnace and ac units were never installed level. In fact, the AC unit should have been installed with a slight forward pitch, but it was installed facing backwards. Both of these issues would have been caught if they had city inspectors come to review the permitted work, but that was never done (only the outside refrigerant lines). Blue Flame also neglected to install drip trays below the entire furnace/ac units which is a serious installation breach when installing HVAC equipment into an attic (they eventually did install them after we cited code violations). I also requested they get the work permitted/inspected retroactively, but to date they have not done that. Last year, we had another leak and discovered that the drip pan that they finally installed was full of water. It turned out that both the pump and water sensor (which would trigger the unit to shutoff) failed. So they replaced all of this at additional costs saying that stuff just wears out. And they added a second water switch for the other drip tray. What they didn't know was that this would overload the control board later causing the blower to no longer trigger when the AC was activated. One BF technician indicated the leaks were occurring at the evaporator coil due to blockage with the PVC drain. He tried to blame the leaks on our 3rd party air filters causing excess dust to come through the filters causing the blockage. Next time, another technician came to visit. He was from Texas so knew a lot about AC units. He said the filters were fine and not the issue at all. He also tried redoing the PVC pipe section that he thought was causing the leak. The next guy checked the circuit board and found that the dipswitch for the blower was set too strong and causing water to get pushed too far into the housing where it was leaking below (with no drip tray beneath). Even though it was still leaking, he next thought there was a micro-crack with the internal drain pan. We later discovered that the drip tray below had a hole where water was leaking out so had to patch that up. The new company informed us that the evaporation coil was never installed correctly. The Unistrut they used for installation was not properly leveled and the box where the evap coil was housed was not properly supported causing the box door to torque out of alignment making it difficult to remove and put back on. Of course, this led to serious problems with the evaporation coil freezing up due to a number of factors including low refrigerant charge. And as one might also expect, all this excess condensation and water has led to significant rust in the heat exchanger. Now we have to worry about carbon monoxide and other bad particulates getting into our air. Needless to say, no one will touch our system. They're recommending a full replacement because repairing all the damage and negligence caused is too much of a risk for them. I did leave a message to go ahead and cancel. I then got a phone call about an hour and a half after the end of my appointment window saying someone would be showing up in half an hour. Worst company ever. I paid them $22,000 for ac and they gave me another unit than what we agreed and signed in the contract. They took our heater which they were suppose to leave per the contract. They then had a worker of theirs create a leek and my entire basement flooded and the floor is destroyed. My house has mold and smells. They won't even call me back. We are a non profit organization which takes and house the men coming out of prison. We work really hard to keep the men on the straight and narrow. We have never lost a man back to prison. In short The techs were fine, the office was a disaster. Others have almost all said the office is a horrific mess, but we needed some simple tech work done, so I am splitting the difference on the stars. In long Similar to what others have seen--they scheduled one date, cancelled last minute, and then they acted like they were doing us a HUGE favor to "squeeze us in" on another date. I had to talk to 3 different people to get this re-scheduling done, and it was at their request in the first place, because they bagged at the last minute. They don't even have their own employees handling the phones all the time, either--one lady answered with the name of an answering service, then acted like I was a moron for asking if I was talking to Blue Flame. She had no patience for me at all after that. That was the single most irritating part of this process, thankfully. Anyway, we have a 5-year-old furnace and A/C unit, installed by a different company. Our house is 34 years old. The airflow is low on the second story, always has been. We repaired some ducting problems a couple years ago, which helped, but did not correct it 100%. The original installers came out and found nothing wrong, so we had a family friend in the industry come out and look at it. He speculated that we might have weird ductwork, a setting we could bump up, or maybe a weak furnace that's too small for the house. He works on commercial HVAC, though, so we called in a residential company. Enter Blue Flame. The guys looked it over, found some minor clogging they cleared, and noticed that the aging ductwork was not designed very well--lots of turbulent corners keeping the air from going straight to the rooms. They helped us out quite a bit, considering there wasn't much they could do. Our furnace is big enough, our ducts are not making its life any easier, and they kinda did a basic checkup on everything for the cost of the regular visit. I have no problem with what we got from the techs since we didn't think they'd actually have to fix or change anything. Our power bill might go down one or two percent per day, and our house will be maybe 5-10% cooler. I'm good with the quality of technical service here. But I was annoyed with the office already last week, and now I wish I'd read more detailed reviews instead of just going by the aggregate score on Angi--'cause these folks evidently used to be much better, and have a high score sticking around as a result. read more

We asked for a maintenance check of our furnace that was running fine. The technician notes several issues and at the end thought we should just buy a new furnace, and sent us the quote in case we decided to proceed. The next day the furnace didn't work at ALL! Forcing us to make an emergency appointment (same day) as it was cold in the house. We called Trane ( who originally installed our system) they said the technician did not turn the gas back on and left us in the COLD. In addition, all the things "wrong" were easily fixed with a minor repair and were told we absolutely do not need a new furnace. We wanted at least our money back for the bogus "inspection" which is really just a farce - so they try to sell you more things you don't need. We had to pay for an emergency visit due to the technician ineptitude of returning the gas valve to on. We have asked multiple time for just a refund of the inspection and nothing has happened. They broke one of the units in my house and do not want to fix it. The sales are also incompetent and not able to determine correct layout for the house. None of the phone numbers from the comments worked for trying to get help or explanation. Do not buy the "Comfort guarantee" they use for upselling - there is no reasonable way to get that promise fulfilled. Asked to check on furnace as it was malfunctioning after wind storm a few weeks ago. Under warranty. 130 diagnostic charge to come out. Checked code and told the burner needs to be cleaned, then told several known issues with 4 year old furnace. Had I called for this year's maintenance total charge would gave been 130. Since I didn't I was charged 650 to clean the burner plus the 130 trip charge they gifted back. Service was fine. Labor charge was and is a complete Rip off. I told the tech I won't use the company anymore because they sell bad furnaces that don't last and now I check around and they are charging double everywhere else to do a 30 minute burner cleaning. We purchased a heat pump and air conditioning and have had some significant issues that have been left unresolved, been told different things by technicians to solve the problem with ZERO follow through. They'll schedule a visit from a technician through their answering service the tech will show up tell you what needs to happen and then they won't return calls for the service recommended. This has happened multiple times We were also told by the salesman who sold us the product that the air conditioning would keep our house as cold as we wanted and over this past summer we couldn't get our house below 75 on a hot day which in theory sounds ok but clearly the unit wasn't doing its job and no resolve. STAY AWAY! The work from this company cannot pass inspection, and they refuse to fix it. After installation, the electrical inspector found multiple issues. It's taken me two months of constant calling, dozens of empty promises that "someone will get back to you in 48 hours," and texting the sales manager who sold me the units -- only to finally hear, "We can't help you, good luck." They installed our AC/Heat Pump 9.5 years ago on a 10 year warranty. We had the motor burn up and smoke (even when the technician was out testing) and they refused to replacement because it still worked. They said the problem was a solenoid for the coil. I don't know about you but I don't want an electrical motor continually smoking. And to add insult to injury, they were going to charge me $800 for a 1 hour job to replace the solenoid with a 1 month warranty. Don't trust then to be reasonable and/or responsible! read more

D: I was approached at Home Depot with a promotional offer for AC and furnace maintenance. I scheduled the service, and a technician came to my home on 6/6. After the technician completed the maintenance, my furnace stopped working completely. I told the technician that our furnace had been working fine before the visit--we used it daily. I even checked my Nest report, which showed the furnace had run at least 2 hours every day over the past week. His only response was that their maintenance procedure "could not have caused the issue." That explanation didn't make sense to me, so I asked him to escalate to a senior technician or his manager. His manager, Emily, contacted me and repeated the same line: that the technician didn't do anything wrong, and they wouldn't take responsibility or cover any repair costs. I explained that my request was simple--I appreciate the maintenance, but I just need my system to function. She told me the earliest they could send someone was Monday (it was Thursday at the time). I asked what I was supposed to do for heat in the meantime. Her response: "There's nothing we can do." I told her this was unacceptable and asked for further escalation. She said she would try to contact her own manager, but I never received any confirmation. Later, she called back saying a senior technician could come by that same evening at 6pm. No one showed up until around 8pm. The senior technician seemed professional and checked both the furnace and AC. He concluded the same thing as the first technician--that it wasn't their fault. However, he did mention that the AC cover should have been cleaned during maintenance but was clearly not. After all this, they contacted me with a $570+ quote to fix the furnace. We kept calls for months but they never gave us that $500 back! The sale person who did the contract left the company. For work, they are not clear which government dept will inspect our HVAC. The local Blue Flame team sent Austin out and he showed up in the expected window, found the issue right away and advised me in a fair, professional and friendly manner. Give Austin a raise! So a good friend recommended Blue Flame for AC and it's been downhill from there. If you are a new customer they are super responsive, call you back immediately, answer all questions helpfully etc... the minute you sign paperwork and give them your money- the customer service ends and you're lucky if you're able to get a hold of them once in six months. We are paying for their monthly plan toward yearly services but once we are done with this first year- we are running far away. $17,000 later- after buying a new furnace and central AC... If you call you get a centralized answering service. Who the heck knows if messages get to the office you need to talk to. If they call you back they ring twice and hang up with no message. You call back immediately and the answering service says they are on the phone. It's a never ending wild goose chase just to get someone on the phone. God forbid we ever have an emergency need. On the day our new furnace and AC was installed they accidentally turned off our hot water. That was fun. Stay away! Adding my voice to similar reviews here that Blue Flame's reliability and customer service have fallen off a cliff between 2023-2024. Set my annual AC checkup appointment way back on January 2, 2024 for an April 5 service date. I arrange to be off work for the 8-12 window. They call at 7 to say they need to reschedule for two weeks out. Two weeks later on April 19 they call again to say they can't make the schedule work. I shared my frustration that this was already a makeup slot and there's a cost to customers to be away from work and arrange childcare. The manager told me felt for me and understood so a tech would be at my home at 11. They called at 11 to say they were a few minutes away. The tech didn't arrive until 12 and didn't finish until after 2, making me late to another appointment. Ferrer, the tech, was super polite and a great guy, but is not given the tools and support by the company to provide good customer service. Anthony, the service manager I spoke to on the phone, said they aren't able to hire people since the pandemic. I started using Blue Flame in 2021 during the pandemic and they were great. This excuse doesn't hold water. They used to be so good. Very punctual with great communication. We know our AC system is nearing end of life so I was looking forward to having them replace it, but will now seek out another company who can better earn my business. I will not be using Blue Flame in the future. EDIT: as I see I'm getting the same canned response from ARS as everyone else, it does seem that since Blue Flame was acquired by ARS that service and reliably have hit rock bottom. Wow, this company went from great to crappy over the last year. Back in Oct/Nov 2023, they completely dropped the ball in getting a replacement furnace valve, while the temperature was dropping. Every one of my multiple attempts to request status of the replacement valve resulted in a broken promise to call back. It always seems to be on the parts manager. This went on for 2 weeks while we were freezing in the house. I switched to another company and they got the part ordered and the issue fixed in 3 days, which included a Sunday, where they couldn't actually get the part order out. Adding insult to injury, this company continues to charge my credit card for their maintenance plan despite me repeatedly calling to cancel. Their support personnel even have records of me asking to cancel. All these other bad reviews are legitimately pointing out something rotten here. read more

If I could leave less than 1 star I would. Blue Flame markets themselves as a wholesome, family owned business, when in reality they're owned by American Residential Services (ARS), which is owned by the private equity company GI Partners. In the process of installing an AC unit, the technicians did not lay down a covering on our carpet, and got black grease all over it, which we still cannot get out. Then when they needed to install the thermostat, they punched numerous incorrect holes in our wallpapered walls. The whole hallway needed to be re-wall papered, and we cannot buy the type of wallpaper anymore. Mind you, this was in July, its now January and we're trying to have Blue Flame cover the costs, and they keep passing us off to a new person in the company. This is a typical private equity company move, where they hope you'll get frustrated and give up. We're now dealing with their insurance, who is lowballing us, and gave a burnt offering to repair one hole. Do not use them! read more

At the next scheduling they actually came and did the maintenance service but after no improvement to the heater we saw the tech who supposedly did a full maintenance of the heater never noticed a filter so clogged with wood dust (after refinishing the floors) that air could hardly pass through. In December (2024), I signed up for a promotional heater maintenance service at Home Depot only to find out- after a no show- that Home Depot had partnered with Blue Flame for the service. I decided not give them the benefit of the doubt after my last round with them and I contacted Blue Flame to reschedule. They have no showed 3 times in a month and a half. Each time I have called customer service they tell me they have no record of any scheduled service and have made no effort to follow up, apologize, or make things right. Our Blue Flame installation has been a disaster. total nightmare from day one has never cooled our upstairs master bedroom. They said nothing we can do but promised that it would cool our entire house. It failed to cool our upstairs, caused a leak in the basement, and damaged our ceilings and insulation. They charged us $140 to inform us of a safety switch added after 2022. What about compensation for customers who suffered damage? this company I wouldn't recommend to anyone not even my worst enemy. Absolutely awful. Blue Flame installed an electric car charger in our garage. They also identified a "dangerous" problem with the wiring from our dryer to the box and charged us $600 to "fix" that. Ok, sounds good right? Unfortunately, when I went to put wet clothes in the dryer the next day, I discovered the dryer now trips the box every time you turn it on. We called them to come fix the problem. For DAYS now, their poor call center will assure us somebody will come "before X time." They don't show up. We call. We are told somebody will come "before X time" a few hours in the future. Again, nobody shows up and nobody calls. This has happened over and over. They have a call center running interference for them and it's impossible to speak to anybody who actually works for Blue Flame. We have 6 people in our family and do 1-2 loads of laundry a day. Now thanks to their mistake we have gone days unable to dry our clothes, and have been told over and over somebody will show up and they never do, and never call. We've been left wasting hours of our time waiting for the promised electrician to come and they never do (and never call). At this point we will likely pay somebody else to come fix the problem that Blue Flame caused with their negligence. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company from the get go.
