Zach from BelRed Heating & Air arrived promptly at our home to clean the ductwork associated with our two recently installed furnaces. From the beginning, I was impressed with his professionalism and attention to detail. He first located each of the many vents throughout our home while explaining the cleaning process and what he would be doing. Each time Zach went out to his truck for supplies and returned, he put protective booties over his shoes. We do not wear shoes in our home, so I especially appreciated his thoughtfulness and respect for our property. Throughout the job, Zach was thorough, focused, and clearly took pride in doing the work properly. When he finished, he made certain that doors were closed and lights were turned off, small details that say a lot about someone's professionalism. The real surprise came when he showed me the contents of the vacuum bag. I couldn't believe the amount of dirt, hair, leaves, and assorted debris that had accumulated in the ducts, including remnants apparently left behind from remodeling done many years ago. Seeing what was actually removed certainly confirmed the value of having the ducts professionally cleaned. Zach is a keeper! I started with Bel-Red a few decades ago, when they were a significantly smaller shop. At the time they saved my bacon by replacing a bad furnace circuit board. Signed up for a yearly service maintenance agreement with them that same day. Every year like clock work, they came out for the yearly turn up. No upselling. Just routine maintenance. I don't exactly recall when they were bought out/merged/bought Gene Johnson and some plumbing company, but it was the end of the no upselling. Fast forward to today: The good. Lots of good to really good people in all roles. An army of techs. They will come to you fairly quickly. Actual service is usually solid. The bad. Some not so good techs that are clearly on the upsell of telling me I needed something. The code changed and new requirements of.... when I'm likely grandfathered in at the old requirements. They want to come out twice a year, to service my heatpump and furnace separately. Basically two opportunities for upsell. They want to send me a free plumbing consultation/inspection. More upsell. Never scheduled with them. The really big prize for them, selling me a completely new heat pump and furnace system, when both approached 10 years old. Having to say no every freaking year. Fear tactics. Super premium prices. Really bad. One of their techs told me my extra surge protector installed by another tech is over a year old and may fail. He highly advises a new one to protect my system. I approve it and pay again. Later I pull the records from the first one installed. It's only 11 months old and under warrant. Call manager and get a refund. Different tech was fixing my heatpump. Had to order parts and came back the next day. He had underquoted the actual cost to fix the prior day. I had already signed and approved the fix the day prior. Day 2, that morning with my heat pump torn apart in pieces, I'm forced to sign/approve the real cost or he cannot finish the repair and would leave. I sign, not happy call into the a manager. He researches. About 2 weeks later they agree to refund the difference. About 2 months later I actually recieve the refund. My hvac system lasted 16 years. Not too bad. They gave me four bids with various levels of equipment. I ended hiring a smaller hvac company near 5 stars reviews here on yelp. Their sole bid was the Bel-Red's low bid with better equipment. I stopped the Bel-Red service agreement going forward. Should have done this many, many years ago. Paying super premium prices for less than stellar services. Live and learn. read more

Refused to honor 5-year warranty on our HVAC system, forcing us to go to small claims court

Look for Alternatives BelRed installed a pretty high-dollar, high-efficiency gas furnace years before I bought my house and it vibrated the whole kitchen wall when running so you could hear or feel it in practically every room of the house. I had them come out to inspect and "tune" the system when I moved in, but any mention of the noise was just met with condescension and redirection (they were more interested in selling recurring services). Shortly thereafter, I had a different company install an air conditioner and after they rebuilt the air handler there is barely any noise when it runs. Fast forward many years, BelRed just installed the pictured heat pump next door and it sounds like a dump-truck idling right against our bedroom wall. I looked up the manufacturer and evidently there are lots of people that complain about how noisy these heat pumps are. I have 3 recently installed heat pumps, 4 if you count the refrigerator, and none of them make anywhere near as much noise as this thing does, and evidently after many years of complaints the company actually INCREASED the published decibel rating from 60dB to 70dB so they could keep saying, "That's normal." So the end result is that BelRed is selling and installing a system that by definition violates the city noise ordinance of 60dB -- how wonderful for me. On the installation side, I would caution anyone getting a heat pump installed to be very particular with how the contractors setup the handling of the condensate (water). Heat pumps make a lot of water, so there should be well designed way to deal with all that water that will work effectively in both the summer and the winter. So definitely ask questions about how the system is going to drain when temperatures are below freezing. From the picture (taken from my yard), you can see that instead of using a drain line, this unit was just put in the middle of a drain pan with a length of PVC pipe across the walkway. Aside from the obvious trip hazard, since drain pan pipe fittings are on the side (above the bottom of the pan), there will ALWAYS be water in this pan, and since it is out in the open, it will always have leaves, debris, mold, bacteria, and mosquitoes growing in it. So my recommendation is to look for alternatives instead of using BelRed. read more

What I got is a furnace that has a very loud return/intake which makes it very loud in my living area where the intake vent is located. Two difference technicians came out after the install and fiddled with the unit, which did absolutely nothing. After the second person did nothing he said he would go back to his team and talk about a solution. I received no call back. We purchased from and had our Mitsubishi mini split system installed by Belred heating 8 yrs ago. For the last couple years, the system has become less and less effective. This spring when we tried to use the a/c, it was not cooling at all. I contacted Belred and asked if a technician could come out to check the system as I suspected there was a refrigerant leak somewhere. The repairman arrived and checked the main cooling unit. After several minutes, he told us that the system was, and I quote "leaking from everywhere" and would likely cost more to repair than a new system. He also said that because it was 8 years old, it was near the end of its service life. I was of course dubious of what I was told. I asked to have a repair technician look at my system however, I feel like I was sent a salesman instead. He was happy to discuss the cost of a new system and was also happy to charge me $230 dollars for the service call. Fortunately, I was able to find a reputable company and a technician who was able to pinpoint the leak in one of the lines in less that 30 minutes. And that the system I have is top of the line and should last for many years, especially in Seattle where it is not in constant use. So, he was able to repair the leak and charge the system for less than $1,500 dollars. My a/c is now cooling better than ever. I am very upset that I paid for a service call that was nothing more than someone trying to sell me something I did not need. The good: when we needed them, they came through with the repairs and replacement. The bad: HORRIBLE communication. After they installed a completely new system, there wasn't any meaningful breakdown of the costs! No subtotal for the furnace or heat pump. They partly sold me on the system telling me that it would qualify for an energy credit on my taxes. BUT without the cost of the aforementioned items, there is no way to claim the energy credit on IRS tax forms. EXTREMELY disappointed. Called them 4 or 5X to try and get the itemized invoice and got several generic emails with the same non-itemized invoice before getting the final, identical, non-itemized invoice that said they were unable to itemize the "packaged" deal. I've been a customer of BelRed Heating for many years, and have been very pleased with their service. After making an emergency appointment, Technician Hector Curiel came out, and analyzed, and identified the issue. He had the furnace up and running quickly. Hector was professional, knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. He explained the problem, answered my questions, and offered tips and recommendations to improve the efficiency of my furnace. I was told by a different company that I needed to urgently replace my furnace because of carbon monoxide (it is 23 yrs old). He said that if I turned on the heat, I would be getting at least 9ppm into the house. I called BelRed for a second opinion. Hector arrived and was extremely courteous, professional, and friendly. He was transparent with everything he did. He took pictures showing a crack in my heat exchanger. Then he measured for carbon monoxide both next to the furnace and at a vent while the heat was turned on - both were 0. He asked where the previous company had measured which was with the cover off the furnace and just a little inside - yes, there is carbon monoxide there but since I don't keep the cover off, I'm not being exposed to it. Hector was very professional - there was no pressure even though he did recommend replacing the furnace. He gave me pricing and options for repair work. Then offered to have a sales person come by if I was interested in replacement instead of repair. What I really liked about Hector was his knowledge, transparency, and earnestness. He came across as trustworthy. He knew what he was doing and educated me as he went. What I liked about BelRed was that they separate their repairmen from their salesmen. Hector was there to help repair my furnace, not necessarily to make a sale. This helped create a pressure-free environment which made a positive impression. I need to update my review (see below). Having put me on the 'priority list,' they came on an on-call basus and replaced the faulty GFI outlet. They were quick and professional, which I greatly appreciated. So, ultimately I was satisfied with the work. The repair made in October has already blown. Whe. I called to get the repair redone, I was told, 'we are too busy to help you. We can schedule a visit in two weeks.' The service technician came to diagnose a system malfunction and after hours of diagnosis, and maintenance of my furnace informed me that my heat pump was not working. The problem is that the heat pump was working just fine before the technician came to work on the unit. Now, the supervisor, Stephen Mendoza, refuses to send a technician to fix my heat pump unless a balance from an unrelated maintenance is paid in full. Insane labor prices. $450+ to switch out a thermostat, that's not even including the price of the thermostat. Seattle is expensive, but not this expensive. I suggest checking out some other places.. maybe because they're now under a larger company, prices are blown way out of proportion. Ended up going with a different company that charged $150. Husband called BelRed during the holidays for an exterior outlet issue to get our hot tub up and running, as well as fix another indoor outlet issue. (Hot tub had stopped working suddenly after recent outage, but family in town for holidays wanted to soak!) Lost payments, no heat! Our second payment was Lost by BelRed, costing us many hours to resolve including proving the check was drawn and reissuing a check! Heat isnt working unless its below 40 outside, currently have SPACE HEATERS throughout our house trying to keep it warm enough, house is 60 degrees right now!!!! Heat pump is constantly on blowing cold air around our house making it feel colder than it is. All this AND a HIGH HEATING BILL when the heat isnt even working most the time. When the furnance does click on the house is toasty .. BUT .. there is no way to force it on if its cold in the house. BelRed installed our new furnace and heat pump April 2024. We were satisfied with the work. However, fast forward to 2025. We were offered a "free" one year service inspection. It took awhile to schedule the appointment. The service person that came talked and talked and talked. He said we needed the coil pulled and cleaned as well as the heat pump cleaned. This, with their service plan ($250)would cost over $1000. This is with their special discount. We scheduled, 12-5 window. They didn't show. Rescheduled, 12-5 window. Service man called said he wouldn't be here until 7pm. We didn't want a tired worker doing the work on our units. BelRed reception said the service workers were used to working long hours. This is not a good way to take care of your employees. Scheduled again, waited again. Young man came, very nice but could only do half of the job because he did not have he experience to work on the furnace. BelRed insalled the furance so why would they send someone who could not do the work required? Rescheduled againl. It is now over a month trying to get this work done. This was for 12-5 time frame again. The service man called at 6:40 from West Seattle on a rainy Friday eveing saying he could be at our home in Lake Stevens around 7:30 or so!!! No way! By this time my husband had had enough. We requested a refund for the cost of the service contract. I waited until the refund appeared on the credit card before writing this review. This company apparently has no respect for time, their customers or their workers. They were very cavalier about our time. I am 75 and my husband is 93. We don't have enough hours in our lives left to waste time waiting for service people. I scheduled the pull and cleaning of the furnace coil with Cascade Energy Service. I made an appointment, they called half and hour before telling me they were on their way and ETA. They came, they were a few minutes early, did the job and the cost was half of what Bel/Red was going to charge. If you're reading this, find a different vendor. My husband and I purchased a heating and cooling system from your organization in October 2023. We felt good about the purchase until we didn't. The installation was supposed to have been a 2 day install, October 12th and 13th, a Thursday/Friday - but turned into multiple days, with no heat. On October 12th, we were left without heat. The guys left with a portion of the work done at 8:20pm. I purchased them dinner and spent a good amount of money because I felt badly about the lateness of their day. They came back on Friday to finish the project, or so we thought. On October 13th - when the install was complete, we learned that there's an entirely different "guy" who actually turns on the system and that that "guy" wasn't scheduled to turn it on on Friday the 13th. In addition, we learned that no one works on the weekend. The installation team of 2 left the house and provided us with 3 portable heaters but no additional information about when the heat would be turned on. I reached out to Miranda because we were two days into no heat had no idea when to expect it to be turned on. No response from Miranda on the 13th or 14th so I texted again on Sunday, October 15th because we were still without heat. Now it's been 4 days. I didn't hear back from Miranda until Sunday, the 15th. October 15th - received a text back from Miranda stating that we should have had heat back on Friday the 13th and she'd follow up. October 16th - I texted Miranda again at 6:21pm - we still didn't have heat and my husband had heard nothing from BelRed. Miranda texted back and said that the startup was coordinated for October 17th. While the startup finally happened, we had no heat - with an 8 year old daughter in October, for 6 days. Nothing but an apology via text from Miranda. Fast forward to current state. My husband went under the house to look at the new system and found a massive gap in the connection which was heating up our crawl space and not our house. My husband had to temporarily fix the issue and call your technicians to come fix it because we couldn't have the city come out and inspect the system as it was not installed correctly. What would have happened if he didn't go under the house? We would have spent a lot of unnecessary money with the promise from Miranda that this system was going to save us money. It was just a happenstance that my husband found the issue. A tech came out and fixed it in January, I believe, but we were paying for heat that we didn't actually have coming into our house. We were finally able to coordinate the L&I inspector - no help from your team - to come inspect the system. We were told that they system qualified for a $4000.00 rebate. I was told that it's our responsibility to fill out the paperwork and get it to PSE so that we could actually get the money. Your team wasn't helpful in any way. I looked at the invoice to fill out the rebate form and the system that we purchased, according to what I saw, only qualifies for $2400.00 in rebate. I've sent an email to the project coordinator Caleigh, after multiple phone calls to the office prior to emailing. I've received absolutely no follow up from the project coordinator. In addition, I called today to find out how to contact a leader and was told that the receptionist didn't know who the leader is because there's been so much change over the last year. There's no one locally to help. Here's the thing. Customer service will make or break a company. My husband and I both come from the service industry and have high, yet realistic standards for customer service. Our experience has fallen well below any floor that we thought existed. If I were you, I'd avoid this company like the plague. My husband reached out to them because we used Fox, which were bought by this company. Fox was great, this company is trash. My scathing review isn't about work actually being done, which was fine, but rather the CLEAR mismanagement at upper levels that could have ruined my family financially. And yet, despite this debacle, I have yet to hear even a peep from anyone in charge of the company. This company came out to clean our ducts. While doing the work, they noticed that our old furnace was cracked, we shouldn't use it, and had a sales person come out same day to sell us a new furnace. Their sales person was really pushy, which normally is a huge ick for me when it comes to contractors, but it was right before Thanksgiving and we really needed a working furnace. Anyway, since it was literally a 2-day turnaround, we paid in full the day of *via check* for services. The installers took a picture of them with the check, presumably of proof it was given. This was the day before Thanksgiving. They weren't given all the parts, but they came the day after Thanksgiving to install the rest. 2 days later, we got an email saying that out balance was $0, and we thought that was that. CUE to December 7th, we are out of town, and my husband gets a voicemail saying there were some issues with the payment amount. He calls back, office is closed, so he leaves a message. He figured it was some misunderstanding about the 2 service calls, and probably not a big deal. The next day he gets in touch, around 1 pm, he's informed that BelRed was going to charge the full furnace amount, around $9000, on his credit card at 3 pm THAT DAY. Not ONLY would this have destroyed our credit limits, but also, they had proof that they were in possession of the check and our account balance has been $0.00! So we were PANICKING because we had about 90 minutes to figure out WHAT was going on before getting charged. They check had not been cashed. They had lost it "probably in a truck somewhere." What?! Who casually loses a $9000 check?! Anyway, excuses and run-arounds abound, the check was never found and I put a stop order on it. Everyone at the call center/office was very nice, and I appreciate that they deleted our card on file so they couldn't charge it, but who doesn't a) give written warning of a credit card charge, b) maybe give more than 24 hours grace period to figure out why payment hasn't been settled and c) do due diligence of who actually lost the money?! They almost ruined our credit over THEIR mistake! Anyway, the cherry on top was promising someone would come pick up the new check today promptly at 2 pm, and they were 40 minutes late without any communication. If *I* had lost someone's $9000 check and then tried to scare them into a credit card charge because I didn't even bother to look into the payment history, I would have personally driven my butt over there and made sure everything went smoothly ON TIME. Our experience with Bel Red was one of the best customer service experiences we have ever had. The crew who came out to install our air conditioning went above and beyond to make sure the design would work for our home. They came out with different people on multiple days to make sure the home would be cooled efficiently and evenly before they confirmed their plan. On top of that, they were so accommodating with the timing and scheduling as we work from home and had some family in town as well. Lastly, we had a different company come out for a quote and they were extremely pushy and slimy and Abel Red was the exact opposite of that, felt like family. read more

I asked an electrician to come out and problem solve an outlet that wasn't working in my kitchen and to place a new outlet on the deck outside bedroom. It was $800 to correct an outlet that didn't work (excessive I believe) and another 300 to place the outlet outside on the deck. They didn't clarify where I wanted the outside outlet. They placed it in a very awkward position. It's sticking out on my deck on a walkway.When I asked them to return and place it where I wanted it they never made contact with me they just went back onto my property and gave me a quote for another $700. I will never work with this company again. So disrespectful and unprofessional. Their estimate was condescending inflammatory. I was not intending to pick a fight. I called Belred to go to one of my rentals & troubleshoot & fix what I had figured was probably a simple short probably in an outlet. Ian was sent & quickly found the outlet that was the problem, the charge was a lot more than I expected, I have paid less for far more electrical work. He explained that he had to drive 30 minutes to get there, so just know that if you hire Belred that they will be charging you for every little thing the minute they are dispatched. This is a tough review to write because the people I interacted with were both professional, timely and friendly. I wanted to get an AC maintenance service done, so I called BelRed and spoke with a friendly CSR named Matt. He was able to schedule me for a service a few days later and quoted me $147 if I signed up for their preferred membership at $29 a month. And the membership would also provide me with a both AC and Furnace tune up yearly. Seemed like a good deal. The service tech showed up on time and was friendly. I don't want put his name on blast because I feel he was probably just doing what the company expected of him, and that was to upsell me on a bunch of additional services that I "needed" with a high markup. He initially quoted me four additional services to keep my AC in good order that added up to $2000. I was a bit taken aback, but I did agree to two of those services that he prioritized for me. It was my fault for succumbing to the sales pressure. I took look at the parts that were needed for the two additional services he performed (Boost Juice and the hard start part) and was shocked you could buy them for about $100, and he spent about 30 minutes of labor. So the hard start install and running the oil maintenance which all in was almost $1000, something that probably should have run $400 max with parts and labor included. I'm completely fine with paying a fair rate for his time and labor but this simply put was highway robbery. I asked him why both of the services he performed were so expensive for something that wasn't either labor intensive or needed expensive parts. To his credit he gave me a honest answer of "I don't have a good answer for you". After he left I was curious and I checked with some other HVAC companies and they explained I was both overcharged and probably talked into services my 6 year old AC did not need. BelRed Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical were incompetent from the very first point of contact. They couldn't manage their own schedule to come give us a quote. They gave us one time window while scheduling and texted us a different time the evening before. They did not show up and when we called to find out why I had to talk to 4 different people, none of whom took ownership of their mistakes. One of them had the gall to offer the olive branch of not charging us a "dispatch fee". Imagine that, charging a prospective customer a fee for having to call to tell them that their own personnel didn't show for the appointment.
