This place is a well talked about, well discussed restaurant! It has a great reputation around Victoria and is well liked by all its patrons. Firstly the "Good" and "Bad" Good: - Menu Variety - Exotic ingredients selection in food choices - Location (Downtown Victoria) - Quantity of food - Size and selection of fruit servings (2$ instead of pan-fries) - Egg white option (1.25$ extra on omlettes) - Value for money - Local produce and eggs - Seasoned pan-fries (Not bland deep fried) Bad: - Coffee size (Just a wee-wee cup) - Wait time. (50 minutes + food time for a group of 6) - Not able to seat large party of people - Costly Extras - Busy weekend waits - No local dairy products Introduction: I had heard so many good things about the Blue Fox Cafe that I thought I should attend with friends for some Brunch and give it a try. Sadly, its reputation for a wait does precede it and in todays rainy and cold weather it can be a bit much unless the line is worked down the hallway outside the door. The Wait: Yes it was a long wait, but worth it. For the most part we were outside in the cold, but when we did get inside there was a quaint sit down area that seated 5, and standing room for 2-3 people. I have read 30minutes for the wait, but for our larger party of 6 persons we were 50 minutes waiting plus the time for ordering and food. The smaller parties of 2-3 people seemed to have no problem getting in there before us, as around 6-8 people did while we sat; which I had no problem with. The waitress/hostess was kind enough while waiting to keep us updated on what was happening with our table which was excellent and very professional I thought. Good job! I have to stress to the owners that they could do an amazing (5star) job at a different location downtown with more room for patrons, although I imagine nothing is just jumping out and offering itself up to them. The Food: Well my friends joked that the the reason the food was good was because of the huge wait! Personally I knew why I really enjoyed my meal. The ingredients selection. The exotic assortment of ingredients that grace the menu make every choice a good one. I chose the Lox Omlette and it was amazing. The extra egg white option was not on the menu and I was charged 1.25 for which I have received for free at other restaurants. The Omlette was full of ingredients and not lacking in flavor and taste. I did find it a bit runny inside, but the juices made an excellent dipping sauce for my pan fries. The plate I had was big and full of food, so for the 13.25 I was paying for it, it was good value for money. The fruit option is also an amazing choice. For 2$ more instead of pan-fries you can have a big helping of fruit. Fresh fruit in large quantities will grace you plate, if your not in for the yummy seasoned pan fries. My Advice: Keep it up! But drop the extra money on the Egg-white option. The Drinks: My biggest complaint. The Java.....and choices. Maybe its because the kitchen/prep area is confined but the Java was bland and not very flavorful, and served in small cups. I like to have a big cup of Java with my breakfast/brunch meal, and especially when being charged for it I would love some flavor or at least a flavor choice. There was also no brown sugar choice, just the white-crack sugar which also upset me. I noticed that there was a drinks menu, and on the drinks menu there are prepared drinks that cost 2-4$ more and are served in bigger cups. Maybe the small cups are try to push the bigger prepared drinks menu? Hmm... Also the Dairy was from Foremost. I'm not a huge fan of foremost and haven't seen it in any local stores. I would love to see Island Farms on the table supporting a local producer and farms. Foremost is an American brand, with a few places on the mainland and not very local. My advice: Serve a couple of kinds of Java in bigger funky cups, offer brown sugar, and take some pride in the staple of the breakfast meal. The Java! I know you do a lot of business but I have seen this mentioned a few times now, and bring in some local dairy! Conclusion: I like this place. Like....but not love. The wait, the lack of capacity, and the Java-ness upset me a little. But the food is really great! I really did like my meal but the wait is a little bewildering. Serving Java to people outside on a tray might be a good option to keep them happy and warm, or even a variant of apple-cider now that old man Winter is approaching. I do hope Blue Fox that you can find a bigger, new, and just as funky home as you do something special with the things you have. read more

My wife and I visited Victoria for a short getaway and discovered this wonderful place! It's the ideal setting, and the food is excellent for a quick snack or a full lunch. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the atmosphere was so inviting. We'll certainly be returning. Just be aware that it's quite popular, so you'll need to arrive early to find parking and be prepared to wait in line. But trust me, the wait is absolutely worthwhile. Drink: My wife ordered a mocha, and I had a hot chocolate. I'm not usually a coffee drinker, but the cafe's mocha was so delightfully made that I couldn't help but finish it. It had a pleasant coffee flavor that wasn't overpowering, and the texture was wonderfully smooth. I rate the mocha 5/5 and hot chocolate 4/5. Food: I ordered "Eggs in hell" and my wife ordered "Migas & Amigos". The "Eggs in Hell" dish was absolutely phenomenal, earning a 5/5 rating. The hollandaise sauce was incredibly flavorful and creamy, and the hidden avocado underneath added a wonderfully smooth and buttery texture that melted in my mouth. The spicy pork chorizo provided a nice balance, with a subtle kick that left me craving more. The overall dish was expertly prepared and an absolute delight to consume. The Migas & Amigos dish was solid, earning a 4/5 rating from me. Their homemade jam was the real standout - it was delightfully delicious, not overly sweet, and paired so nicely with the toast. I could've happily bought a little jar to take home, but they only sell it by the coffee cup for $13, which was a bit steep. While it didn't wow me quite like the Eggs in Hell, the jam really elevated the dish for me. Without that, I probably would've given it a 3.5/5 instead. I recently visited the Blue Fox Café and was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. The vibe was vibrant and welcoming, with the staff being incredibly attentive throughout the visit. The café itself was spotless, and the décor added to the overall charm of the place. I ordered the salmon omelette and a coffee, which came to less than $30--a reasonable price for the portion size and quality. The food arrived quickly, piping hot and fresh. The presentation was excellent, showcasing the care they put into their dishes. They use local farm-fresh ingredients, which made the meal taste exceptionally fresh. While the presentation and freshness were top-notch, the flavor was somewhat average not extraordinary, but still enjoyable. The service was outstanding, with the server being friendly and efficient. Wife and I were just looking around for a good cafe to go have brunch. We found Blue Fox Cafe and said let's try it out. I decided to order the eggs Benedict Pacifico and my wife ordered the huevos rancheros and this place did not disappoint... not one bit! So much flavor, so much good taste with their meals. I would highly recommend coming to this place if you do. Apparently, this place fills up and there is always a line out the door. My wife and I went on a Tuesday morning and it wasn't so packed. Had to wait in the rain a little bit, but it was worth it. The coffee was awesome, we kept asking for refills over and over again. All the food was great.
