I really, really wanted to like this place. We were greeted immediately, and seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant was colorful, and filled with fun pictures and art, all featuring their giraffe theme. There was a section filled with moms with young kids, and all of them were very happy. It seems like a great family place! I ordered the burrito, my wife ordered the stuffed portobello mushroom, and her mother ordered the quiche with a cup of clam chowder. My wife enjoyed hers, but one out of three was to be our final score. My burrito was so mild as to be tasteless, the pico and salsa were absolutely tame, and the homemade tortilla chips were thick, heavy, and not appetizing. The quiche was OK but uninspired, and a kitchen mistake led to my mother-in-law getting the fruit instead of the clam chowder. Our server apologized and promptly returned with a cup, but even though it arrived quickly and hot, it was tasteless and almost inedible. She ate two spoonfuls and wanted no more. I suspect the lightly-spiced food appeals to some people, perhaps children or other picky eaters, but we were unimpressed. I still think this is a great family friendly place to bring kids. I wish this place followed me home! My mother and I vacationed here for a whole week and stubmled across this wonderful restaurant. I think about it all the time. The food was real, I could tell. Prepared upon order and from the best engredients around. They have patio seating which was scenic and comforting. Service was excellent and very welcoming and actually wanted to make sure you have everything you need. We ate here like 4 times thought out entire trip and they have a different menu for breakfast lunch and dinner, always mixing it up. While on vacation on the island it was raining nonstop so we decided to shop around at one of the plazas on Periwinkle Way. We decided to take a break for dinner and saw the Blue Giraffe as we were getting ready to leave. There were four of us all with very different tastes but amazingly we all LOVED our meals! We had the chicken parm, pasta Pacifico, Gerry's Apple Pork Chops, and the stuffed chicken. The portion sizes were more than generous and the food was delicious! Service was great as well- they stopped by regularly to check in on us. We stopped in around 5:15pm on Sunday so we beat the dinner rush. Highly recommend this place- perfectly located for a stop after a few hours of shopping! read more

We came here on the strength of its Yelp reviews, and it being one of the places on the island open late-ish on a Sunday evening. On arrival it didn't look liked much in the dark, in a nondescript strip mall. And though there weren't many customers at that hour, we were greeted warmly and we chose to sit outside. We each had a couple of excellent local beers while waiting (wish I could remember the names), and out the food came very quickly indeed. The servers were cheerful and very knowledgeable about everything in the various dishes. My Fish Tacos were as good as anything I've ever had anywhere out West - soft, tangy and big enough for several mouthfuls each. My companion's Pasta Diablo was very generous and she had to struggle to finish the plate (I had to help out and can attest to its quality). Both of those dishes were prepared by someone who really knew what they were doing. We thought about dessert but ultimately just couldn't - we'd eaten far too much that day already and the combination of sea, sand, and sun as well as pretty much nonstop food all day was just too much. read more

I thought that the Blue Giraffe was a nice addition to Periwinkle Place. Their handwritten sign they had out front had a joke that made me laugh. I can always appreciate a good sense of humor. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. Being that I'm from Tampa I did raise an eyebrow when I saw that they were charging fourteen dollars for a Cuban sandwich for lunch. The good news was that it (and the other entrees we ordered) were big. We definitely brought food back with us. The caprese salad and quiche were ordered as well with no complaints. While I did think it was great that they offered a Yelp check in deal the staff didn't know anything about it. When I told the server about the deal he said he had never heard of that, asked if I was sure if it was for the Blue Giraffe, and then came back and double checked my phone. When we looked at the bill they charged us for it and we had to get them to remove the charge. Hopefully they'll get more traffic from Yelp and this won't be an issue for anyone else. read more

There is lots of trendy breakfast places on the Island and on this day most had lines waiting to get seated. This place is in a strip mall and hard to see so wasn't busy at all. It had excellent wait staff and good but not great breakfast food. You can get a beer or drink here as well if you want a real American breakfast. I was only there for breakfast so can't speak for the other meals but would have tried them if we would have had more time. Give them a try. They should get better signage for more walk in customers like us. Just a thought. read more

If you are near or on the island this is a must!! Breakfast, lunch or diner you can not go wrong. Oh yeah by the way, they have a full bar. So if you are looking to get a little tipsy in the morning, look no further. All aside the good was awesome. We tried the shrimp po boy, a Cuban, and the chicken panini. We actually came here twice during our stay on the island (which was only 2 days long). I had to get the chicken panini both times because it was so good! The tomatoes on the chicken panini were marinated and they were so juicy and flavorful. The alcoholic beverages they had were well priced. We enjoyed this place the most during our stay at Sanibel Island. read more

Absolute disgrace of service when it comes to hospitality and service animals! Do not bring your pets here or you'll be greeted by a light skinned brunette whose name I couldn't even get for this review because she's probably that worthless. First of all, they don't allow animals. And this is the first ever establishment I've seen that actually announced they're legally allowed to ask 2 questions. Those questions being 1) is it a service animal and 2) what kind of service does it provide. DONE! But this rude girl wanted to keep asking questions after I already told her my dog provides psychiatric support. I guess she wanted to know more about my history with anxiety and depression. Unbelievably disgusting service and lack of respect by someone with no logical, rational or sense of morality. Pathetic for a restaurant that was probably at 10% capacity at best. What a joke! It was decent. Not exceptional, but good enough to be satisfying. Interior was nothing special, without a lot of extra atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive, though. I had the blackened grouper sandwich, but I'm not really sure what blackened means in Sanibel. It was pretty tasty, but the spices were pretty light. Tropical slaw was my choice for the side. It had a nice sweetness to it, vs. typical vinegar or mayo slaw. The wife and daughter split an order of the Blue Giraffe Fish tacos. These are blackened mahi-mahi on tropical slaw, covered in mango salsa and chipotle cream on warm flour tortillas. It is marked as a house specialty, and they do a pretty good job with them. Again, the blackening is less than I am used to. But the overall flavor was really good. The mix of all the ingredients went together well. I'd suggest ordering them. read more

Very nice atmosphere and good food. I had the Grace Veggie burger with guacamole and I liked it very much. Other people in our party had a salad with shrimp that was very nice and a turkey club. All enjoyed but the French fries has a wonderful barbecue chip flavor that was irresistible. read more

I wavered between two and three stars. I had the lobster ravioli, which was good. Other dishes were good with the exception of a fish in a too-sweet sauce, which is sadly the dish that was delivered late because of a mistaken order. The diner made nice but really hated it. I found the Blue Giraffe on Yelp while my party of seven shopped. I chose it because review said it had improved tremendously (not familiar with the old version, and glad of it) and because a Yelp check-in got you a free glass of wine. We presented our phones and got the wine - except for one diner, whose phone would not connect and send the coupon. A reasonable restaurant would have just given her the wine after the server saw her trying to make the app work for 20 minutes. It made both the restaurant and Yelp look bad, all to save $6. And since they added an 18% tip (because of the group of seven), we had little recourse. The server was not friendly at all, little apology was made for the order mix-up, and the wine thing was just stupid. Too bad, because I love giraffes and they had some great ones in the decor. Next trip to Sanibel, we eat elsewhere. All seven of us. read more

Blue Giraffe is a family friendly funky spot. Highly recommend ! We immensely enjoyed our breakfast while listening to the Moody Blues! Portions were healthy and food was homemade hot and delicious! Wished I had ordered the French toast it looked YUMMY! Service was friendly and attentive. The owner is from Nashua NH and extremely knowledgeable about the area.
