This is a cute lunch spot on the island. I am sure the breakfast is yummy too. We came for a real late lunch, so it was not busy but service and food was great! I love crab cakes and have made it a point to try any crab cake I come across. So I ordered the Mediterranean salad and asked if I could have a crab cake (which is only listed as an appetizer) on top of the salad instead of chicken, salmon or shrimp. They were more than happy to accommodate my request. It was a good crab cake but not one of the best in the area that I have had. My husband liked his cobb salad. The sweet potato fries and wings were also good. Everything was good but not exceptional. We were happy that they have a full bar too unlike a few of the Sanibel lunch spots we have visited. This place is like washing your feet with your socks on - it gets the job done but something just isn't quite right, it lacks a certain something that would take it to the next level. Among the stand out restaurants or unique restaurants on Sanibel and Captiva, this falls right in the middle for us. Nothing to write home about, literally. But average means you won't get a bad meal either. The name we were told comes from the original owner's daughter who liked both giraffes and the color blue. The place is blue, the tables hand painted village scenes, the blue walls decorated with humorous giraffe pictures and paintings and such. Nice atmosphere set in a shopping center, back off the parking area, a nice covered outside dining area if desired. The stand out for us was the 'Cohiba Rolls'. A Cohiba is a famous Cuban cigar brand, so the fried tortilla used in this appetizer resemble that in appearance. Nicely presented, 2 rolls cut in two, separated to the 4 corners of the small plate, topped with lettuce and yellow corn, I think it had some black beans inside, so you see the Cuban influence. Either way, they were delicious - the high point of the night. Light, not too filling, just right and just what you want in something labeled 'appetizer'. I didn't see anything in particular that appealed to me other than the chicken parmesan, and my wife had opted for an appetizer for her dinner - the "Pork n Slaw Jr." - looks like it could be a dinner offering as well. She said hers was delicious - basically a round bun with pulled pork BBQ, cut into quarters, laid out in a straight line on a rectangular plate, then topped with Cole slaw. It worked like the Cohiba rolls appetizer. We ordered a side of onion rings for my wife's BBQ as it being an appetizer no side came with it. The onion rings were so uniform, so heavily breaded with the same look one finds at any restaurant chain - we were hoping for hand battered there. Maybe they were, but usually hand battered rings are unique, more lightly breaded, and no two look alike - not so here - all uniform, all identical but for their size from ring to ring. My chicken parmesan did look like the chicken had been hand breaded there, rather than trucked in frozen and then fried - and the waiter verified that. The breading was light, nicely done. The pasta it was served on wasn't drained well - shouldn't be sitting in tomato sauce water and having to let the pasta drip dry in the air between the bowl and the mouth - but that's how it was. No bread was offered with the meal, which could have soaked up the soupy part - And maybe that's why the flavor seems rather flat - I don't know. It just was rather plain. No bread came with it, no salad either. It seems the dinner menu is ala carte - at least for what I ordered. They hit in some areas, and miss in some areas. Average overall, but what you get is good, it's just missing a few things that would take it to the next level. read more

Had the quesadilla and grouper fish tacos and shared with my sister. My first time getting fish tacos ever and they did not disappoint. There is a small patio, a bar, and inside seating. The menu did not disappoint, extensive lunch options! I decided to have the causeway quesadilla and it was delicious. A local "beachy" feel restaurant. I've eaten here three times. The shrimp tacos are great, very sweet and tangy. The pulled pork salad is good, meat is juicy and very tasty. The chicken salad with fruit was ok, not atom of food though. The pineapple wasn't great. I went with my family on Easter, as we were on vacation. We specifically drove out to Sanibel to eat at this lovely restaurant after previous great experiences. They did not disappoint. Keep in mind that they are keeping shorter hours so try not to wander in at 7:30 when they are closing at 8:00. Give yourself (and them) enough time to do it right. I'd recommend calling ahead just to be sure of the hours. Don't rely on web searches, all venues are amending their hours lately. One of the things I love about this place is how beautiful the food looks. I don't often take photos of my food but I took a few shots on this visit. How is it possible to present a single crabcake appetizer as a work of art but they did. We splurged for dessert this time and were glad we did. The chocolate brownie with Ghirardeli chocolate was melt in your mouth delicious. This place is a gem and worth the trip and the toll over the Sanibel Causeway. If you time it right you can catch a gorgeous sunset on your way over. We even saw a shark fin in the waters off the B span (with people dragging a tube behind their boat nearby) Yikes! read more

I love giraffes! This is such a unique restaurant-perfect for anyone who likes them. There are giraffe themed items everywhere! The patio is very spacious which made eating outdoors so enjoyable. The food is very good and there are a lot of different items to choose from! My husband and I had breakfast (pancakes and eggs Benedict with salmon). The coffee was good, too. Prices are just right . The staff are friendly! It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner- very convenient. This restaurant has been popping up on my Facebook feed for awhile (since I post a lot about giraffes)... We were looking for Cip's after giving up on the long wait at Island Cow -- but ended up in the parking lot for Blue Giraffe. Nothing to rave about, but adequate for a night when we wanted a light meal. I had a Cobb salad and a glass of wine; DH opted for a basic hamburger and beer. My Cobb salad had all the ingredients of a typical Cobb, but the presentation was more like a regular tossed salad. The chicken was a rather tasteless breast plopped in the center of the salad. Portions of bacon, avocado, and tomato were minimal. Some tempting desserts, but a very large scoop of Edy's (Dreyer's to West Coast pals) mint chocolate chip ice cream was a good conclusion to the meal. RUDE STAFF AND MANAGEMENT. Spend your money elsewhere! During high season on this resort island, restaurants need to step up their service game to compete. Although the food was good, the service was abysmal. The waiter took our order (which was delivered to the table by a server) and then ignored us for most of the meal as he had outdoor as well as indoor tables to take care of (management should also step up their game). After going to retrieve our own condiments, asking another wait staff for additional drinks, and interrupting our waiter when he was at another table to get drink refills, an attempt was made to reach out to the manager. Both the manager and waiter spoke to our table as though we were pariahs and said some extremely insulting things. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"? Not at this venue. When we called back to tell them about the mistake the person who answered said he repeated the order back and he couldn't help me. Out of 7 meals there's no way a mistake happened? Mkay. This restaurant had been recommended to us by a friend in North Dakota who had eaten here recently. Her recommendation fell short of the experience that we had - ours was FANTASTIC. We first came here for dinner and my wife had the chicken taco salad and I had the black and blue burger. Both were very good, and the presentation was faultless. But we were still ill prepared for the PHENOMINAL Key Lime Pie that we had for desert. We later discovered that the pie is the specialty of the Chef/Owner Geoffrey's wife - Flavia. We have traveled the world over and have NEVEER had key lime pie as tasty as this. Due to the wonderful food and service, we decided to return the next morning for breakfast. My wife had the old-fashioned benedict and I had "The Charlie". The menu says that is: "Scrambled eggs, home fries, tortilla strips, salsa verde, pepper jack cheese, sour cream, bell peppers, onions and pico de gallo." And it was served in a taco bowl just like my wife's taco salad from the night before. I discovered that Chef Geoffrey named this dish for his pet dog who has now passed away and he wanted to honor him in some fashion. Hence, the name Charlie. I further understand that at one time, the dish was served in a bowl (similar to a dog's feeding bowl), but now they use the tortilla bowl. It is unique items and stories like this that make this restaurant so enjoyable. It is quirky, but solid food. The environment is quaint, but clean. The service is appropriately professional without being stiff. My only drawback was that they did not stock Chivas Regal. But Chef Geoffrey stated that would change due to my feedback. I also discovered that Chef Geoffrey is originally from Sanibel Island and returned after time in San Francisco and Texas getting his culinary education and then experience with The Cheesecake Factory. He has now returned to his roots and LOVES IT! I would challenge ALL that visit Sanibel Island to take the time to visit the Blue Giraffe and partake of the great food, service, and perhaps stories. read more

Loved the outdoor seating area! My mom and I shared the space with one other couple and we were well over 6' apart (went on a Thursday morning). My mom got the tacos and said they were amazing!
