Awesome dinner last night. I like that they have half portions on some dishes. I had the half Jumbalya and app of blackened scallops together. Very tasty with a great kick! My wife had the Beef Tenderloin cooked perfectly and Bernaise sauce. Strong Street is shut down for the summer so we sat out side on the street to hear the music playing out there. A perfect weather evening too made for a very enjoyable night. Great Cosmos's for my wife and i loved my Fiddlehead IPA. Eastside one our go to restaurants in the area never disappoints. Ok yum! We wanted to try a new place in Northampton instead of our usual spots and I am so glad we did! My fiancé and I both got the 12 oz steak which was cooked as requested. I got mine covered in the Gouda fondue and candied bacon which I was hesitant about but ended up really liking. Our server was really great, she was attentive and checked in on us frequently. The place is lit up right now for Christmas so all the lights make the ambiance really nice and romantic. We finished with maple crème brûlée which was 10/10. We are for sure going back!! read more

Another trip back to the eastside grill.... We started with a dozen oysters and the gorgonzola bread between 3 people. The gorgonzola bread is always a hit. The oysters not so much this time. Out of the dozen we left 4 on the plate due to the oyster liquor being pretty viscous. Granted it was a Sunday, next time I'll find out the day(s) that the oysters are received and order appropriately. For my main I had the shrimp genevieve and it was great. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and the garlic, shallots, pepper, and spinach a great accompaniment to the pasta. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but this one needs a heads up. Find a better place to go to. There's one down the street. This restaurant wasn't very busy yet on a Thursday evening yet, the main dishes took an hour to get to the table - luke warm, overdone, and no seasoning as described in the menu, ie, bland and tough. And low quality meat. As we ordered, we'd asked if it could be split and were told "of course!" yet it was delivered on one plate, no extra plate and no service piece to divide it onto plates. Once equipped as we waited a few minutes and the food grew cold, we had to split it ourselves. The service was immature ie, inattentive service, poor listening skills, and anticipated no needs at all (like a serving piece to split the dish with, second plate, etc) I'd started with a martini mocktail which pretty much tasted like dirty water. We had a family celebration there a couple of months ago. We went there, because their steaks got good reviews, and that's what the birthday guy wanted for dinner. He thought their Caesar salad was really good, and he's had a lot of those. We all enjoyed our steaks, but if we weren't wanting red meat, we would have found their menu quite limited. read more

Good news for homebound foodies waiting for the end of coronavirus, the kitchen at Eastside Grill is cooking and delivering to Northampton and Florence. As a guy who lives in NYC and has traveled to work in Northampton weekly for five years, the Eastside Grill knows how to run a kitchen. I've had everything from Faroe Island salmon with mustard butter to the NY sirloin with candied bacon & smoked Gouda fondue. It all rocks. I usually eat at the bar. Alas, nightlife is curtailed during our global pandemic. But there is no need to suffer through another rotisserie chicken (though Sutter's does a good job). Some of the best dishes are the Cajun-themed items like the gumbo of the day fried oysters, chicken etouffe, New Orleans style barbecue shrimp and any menu item served blackened. I enjoy this place enough that our office Christmas party was held there. Even the vegans loved the food, especially because the chef accommodated them with Michelin quality chow. The Oreo cheesecake was the dessert if the night! As soon as possible, I'll return for the Eastside's tangy Gorganzola vinigarette salad. But Northampton is under the same "shelter in place" order as the rest of America, so I'm hoping the restaurant survives the pandemic by becoming the best meal delivery option in the Pioneer Valley. read more

I would avoid this restaurant for a while. Not sure what was up with the kitchen staff but it was obvious from the moment we say down when an adjacent table refused their food and got the check right after being served that something was off. We went ahead and ordered but it was a poor decision. Both meals were bland, unseasoned (not under seasoned...unseasoned), sauteed spinach wasnt even cooked down and the meats were very over cooked. We heard similar complaints form another table close to us. I gave 2 stars because the wait staff was at least understanding of the issues when we were there and did comp us 1 meal. What has happened to one of my favorite restaurants? The space and service are still the same- very good, but the food was a bit disappointing. The chicken and beef were not tender and overcooked, but the flavor was good. The vegetables and salads were okay. The rolls were several days old and like rocks. The frosting on the cakes were great, however the cake seemed very dry, old? The other disappointment was that the website and FB have listed a menu that is not up to date. I had a few ideas for dinner but they had changed. For example the cod listed online is with a crab cream sauce, but it has changed to a lemon poppyseed cod. I realize that menus change, but please update. I was wondering why the restaurant was so empty, it's usually full at 6:00. read more

Two of us in our party ordered the NY Sirloin With Candied Bacon And Smoked Gouda Fondue. This was a nice twist on a regular NY strip without adding any overpowering flavors. I took a chance with the Gorgonzola vinigrette with my salad and really liked it. Fast and friendly waitress. Fresh warm rolls were served along with seconds. I finally made it to Eastside Grill after years of not coming because they did not take reservations. Back in the day they took no reservations, at some point they switched to taking reservations except for Saturday night. Well now they take them on Saturday night. Based on this, I booked a table and checked them out. I was very pleased. I would not have been pleased however if I had to wait an hour for a table ...with so many other great options in Northampton, and places that take reservations. Atmosphere was nice. It's a little crowded and loud, but it's all good. The building is traditional New England clapboard. It's in front of a public parking area and there is also plenty of parking in and around Noho so you could walk there (and grab a nightcap somewhere else afterwards). There are a couple of main dining areas. The one upstairs is a tad nicer, but both are good. There is a bar area but it looks pretty cramped and people will be waiting for tables around you. Cuisine is a pretty cool mix of New England and New Orleans. I have been to New Orleans a ton (I gave Arnaud'sg a nice review recently) and while I do not think they nail the cajun cuisine here - it is a well done and nice influence to mix with the traditional New England. I was there with my daughter and her BF and they had steak and steak and scallops with cajun spices. Their meals were very good. I had a haddock special that was not spectacular, but was perfectly prepared. Salads came with the meal and were good. I ordered a gumbo soup which was very tasty (although my own is better!). Desserts were super good. We had bread pudding, chocolate (!) creme brule (kind of an oxymoron, huh) and a dessert martini. This might have been the best course, although all were very good. Drinks were fairly imaginative and there was a good selection, at decent prices, of wine and beer. Service was very good and they were super busy. For me this was another very positive point. Prices and value were good. This is not going to be a cheap meal but you get what you pay for - and Eastside delivers. Have I had better, sure. But I certainly enjoyed my meal here and Eastside is a "Do Again" and a "Recommend". I would like to go back and explore the menu. I have gone here multiple times for special occasions and date nights and each time Eastside Grill does not disappoint. Last night the bf and I went here and we both got steak dinners...he got the NY strip sirloin with candied bacon and Gouda fondue, and I got a sirloin with Gorgonzola butter, mashed potatoes, and very crispy green beans. Our steaks were cooked to perfection! We got blackened scallops for an app where I got to try scallops for the first time in a very long time, and I liked them! We've also gotten fried alligator, fried calamari, and we often get the PEI mussels with garlic and white wine. They also have a very nice beer and wine list as well as cocktail options, particularly with local brewery options. I got a French vanilla martini..they bring out the shaker so you basically get two drinks in one! The bf had an Abandoned Building IPA. Other delicious entrees...the roasted duck, multiple seafood options including salmon and shrimp, and some with Cajun flair with 'blackened' dishes. Eastside Grill has its sights set on what amounts to a niche in Northampton: generic American food in a plain family restaurant. They can't all be fancy pants international or locavore places I suppose. They've got a sizable menu here, and I decided to go with the special that day instead - a top sirloin steak with a bacon, brandy and porcini mushroom demi glace, mashed potatoes, asparagus, as well as a side salad. The intimidating Newcastle Werewolf Red was my choice to wet my whistle. The bread they served my co-worker and I was tough and wasn't cut all the way through, and the butter was cold and just in packets. Not a good start. My salad was an improvement with its fresh veggies and the Gorgonzola dressing was tangy and had a hint of earthiness from the olive oil. MY bread induced anger was starting to subside. The steak continued the improvement from the bread. Cooked to a perfect medium rare and the demi glace was fantastic - balanced with the sweet and hearty, with peppery notes for a bit of pop, its smooth consistency clung to the meat and potatoes like a delicious brown passenger. The potatoes were smooth and buttery with a hint of garlic and some skins mixed in as well. All in all, a solid steak dinner. The Newcastle definitely had a badass name, but it wasn't nearly as red as purported but was tasty nonetheless. I can't imagine being wowed in a place like Eastside, but it did its job well, providing a decent, inoffensive meal at a reasonable price. Keep shooting for the middle, champ! read more

We stopped here as a midway stop to New Hampshire. We ordered at 6:40, appetizers and entrees. Apps came out at 7 and were very good, oysters tasted great but had some broken shells in them - minor. At 7:40, an hour later we asked about our meals which didn't come out yet. We were told a few minutes- we ordered swordfish and fried clams, nothing intense. At 8 I finally asked for the check. The waitress said it would be only 5 more minutes, but I insisted because we needed to be on our way. We got the bill for 83 dollars for our apps which seemed a little steep. I called about 10 minutes later and was referred to the owner, who apologized and said one of the staff had a personal issue and the kitchen was backed up. I said someone could have told us. Took my bf here for his birthday and we had a nice experience, it wasn't tremendously fancy or special, but definitely an upgrade for steak compared to Longhorn. It was quite expensive, but you'll expect to pay top dollar at any steakhouse. Service was good, environment pleasant and overall we enjoyed our visit. When my friend said something to her, she was told by the owner that she didn't care and to leave a Yelp. She said there is an hour and 40 min time limit, and we had been there two hours.
