First off when we got there it was only 2 people in this place at 10pm on a Saturday. We ordered from the bar and the prices are so unreasonable. The ambiance was good music but not with an empty crowd. The pasta was bland and mediocre. The shrimp was the pre cooked shrimp with the head. The patties were supposed to be chicken but was beef. To start I was invited to this spot from a friend entering a poetry showcase. Parking The host was amazing. I paid my ticket on Eventbrite though no one ever asked me to show my ticket. Upon entering I was not greeted by anyone. The bar was to the right and lounge sectional seating was all around with a small stage at the opposite end of the room where the DJ was. It took well over 30minutes for me to get up to ask someone to take my order. I ordered Oxtails, beef suya and a lemon drop martini with Kettle One instead of Tito's. The martini was amazing. Shout out to the bartender. The beef suya was edible. A little tough at times but I ate it but the oxtails...were cold. I mean put your finger in it cut the oxtail cold. We were well into the show by the time the server came back. I had eaten the suya and almost drank my entire drink. I told her my dish was cold and she took it back. 10-15 minutes later she returned with the plate. Clearly microwaved to be reheated I did not bother as I came to support the amazing show. I asked for a carry out container, bag and check. The sever returned with her handheld machine and showed me my total. I thought it was high but I asked was the tip included. She replied no. Swiped my card and retired the machine to me as to give her a tip. I am normally a generous tipper. So whatever i added $14 and some change to a bill that I thought should be about $60. It still didn't sit right with me so I asked a receipt. Now looking at the receipt there is a $10 tip plus another $14 tip. Now I don't mind tipping $24/25 for great service but that was not it. I called the next day to speak to anyone in charge and was told they don't come in until well after midnight however they would give them the message and have them call me. She also had me send her the receipt. She was even shocked at what I told her. This may be ok for someone that does not care about her money but I paid to get in the door which had nothing to do with the venue. But to take advantage of people is stealing. I would not have notice if Apple had not hit my account for $84.92 . Can someone please explain it all to me after I asked the server was a tip included. Worst is...this is yet another black owned establishment that I am finding ok with taking advantage of people. I have called the lounge several times and no one is there that can handle a refund. So here I am to warn every one of there check at Blu Lagoon. I frequent too many places for this to go unnoticed. I ordered the Red Snapper with rice/peas, cabbage and a side of Plantains. The snapper is always absolutely amazing, this place is always be my go to for their red snapper. The snapper is truly the only reason I frequent! The side items are hit or miss I guess depending on the who's the chef, I honestly don't know why I order the plantain bc they're always greasy/soggy and they will never remake them and tell you they only cost a few dollars. Nice restaurant and lounge in Atlanta. This place has more of a club vibe with the tables set up like VIP sections. The menu consists mostly of African food and some bar foods like wings and fries. I tried some fries which were good but a tad on the salty side. I can say that our food was prepared in a timely fashion and there was no cost to enter (unlike other late night lounges). I went with a few friends on a Tuesday night at about 2am. There was not much parking available so if you choose to go at that hour then I suggest ubering. She never smiled once. I understand that this is a late night spot but y'all have got to do better. The jollof rice tasted BURNT. The rice tasted like it was cooked three days ago then set on fire before serving it, yuck. Then the snapper was dry as a bone. This Caribbean food is fresh, flavorful, and decadent all at reasonable prices. Came here for lunch, and it was efficient and tasty. I had the ox tails with cabbage, rice and plantains. The ox tails was meaty, well seasoned, and delicious. The gravy was amazing, and I wished I had a side of it just to drink. My friend had the jerk chicken, which I would 100% recommend. It was a bit spicy but just enough to give everything flavor and not burn you. The gravy was fantastic and perfectly complimented the dish. A LESSON IN CUSTOMER SERVICE... I visited Blue Lagoon for the first time on Dec. 28 along with two good friends (also first-timers). I was excited to support a black-owned business but was initially disappointed with the experience. The drinks, food and hookah took forever to arrive. When my food finally appeared, there was no silverware, so I went to my car to get a plastic fork (I keep leftover to-go silverware in the glovebox) because I was hangry and didn't want to wait lol. The beef patty was on point, but the jollof rice tasted smoky (burnt, really), the lemon pepper wings were overcooked, and the suya was akin to beef jerky. And according to my friend, the hookah was too harsh and she could barely taste the flavors she picked. Simply put, we were underwhelmed and wishing we'd started our night elsewhere. But the story takes a turn for the better... We shared our concerns with the owner who, rather than becoming defensive, immediately set out to make things right instead of making excuses. He said they weren't expecting as many people and were presumably understaffed, which explained the slowness. He worked on the hookah until he got it right, but didn't charge us for it. He also didn't charge us for the jollof (I chose not to argue about the wings or suya because I didn't want to be "that customer" lol). We felt compelled to thank him for responding appropriately, particularly in an era when customer service is all but dead. We hugged it out, left great tips, and even received free shots (Tito's) from his brother, who said he liked our energy. Because of this, I'm willing to give Blue Lagoon a second chance and encourage others to patronize this black-owned business. Everyone has an off night and last night just so happened to be theirs. Great late night spot! The DJ was great and played entertaining music to set the atmosphere! When we walked in we were immediately greeted by a pushy waitress. The restaurant was completely empty and we were told it was a $300 table minimum to sit down. After being seated, the drinks and hookah came out in a timely manner. The reason this establishment gets three stars is because it smelt like straight TRASH! How could anyone eat here with that smell lingering around the entire restaurant. Watered down Coke they charged $3.50 for. Watered down Jack Daniels they charged $12 for.
